The “colony collapse disorder” currently decimating our honeybees was the prompt for Louie’s new movie, Wings of Life, which at it's essence, is a love story that feeds the earth.

Collage is one of those art forms that immediately sets off heated debate about our most fundamental ideas and visceral feelings about the very essence of art itself.
Turn of the century troublemakers Georges Braque and Pablo Picasso began enhancing their paintings with glued on bits of cut out fabric and other materials, thus neatly blurring the line between the art categories of painting and sculpture. They shifted the emphasis or “meaning” of their painted images beyond an attempted interpretation of the painted “text” to thinking about the artists’ “process” – something wholly separate from the paintings themselves.

A Guide to Effective TaggingA new method to promote and discover art has been released to the community in the form of Tags! When submitting art, adding relevant tags to your deviations will help viewers discover art of interest to them and give your work more exposure.A Guide to Effective Tagging in DeviantART Announcements More Like This
You can add tags based on a variety of things, be it subject matter, themes, medium used, fandom, or anything else you feel is important.
Use these tips to make the most of tags and help your art to find its audience:
Keep it simple. The less complicated the tag, the easier your art is to discover.
Be specific. If you take a picture of a rose, tagging it as #flower, while correct, won’t get your art as much attention as tagging it #rose will. You can, of course, tag both.
Tag efficiently. If your art is based on Lord of the Rings, tag it #LordOfTheRings and/or #lotr. You don’t need to tag every combination — t

Gallery Makeover ProjectHello everyoneGallery Makeover Project in Deviant Events More Like This
Recently my team and I worked tirelessly on a project to help improve the gallery descriptions and thumbnail examples. While that project was indeed tedious with almost 4,000 categories in our system, it was also educational. What I learned from sorting through thousands and thousands of categories was that we have a lot of redundancy and a lot of categories that seem to have been created on a whim that are now simply homes for junk.
Over the years, the desire to appease niche communities and people who just wanted a specific area has led to some categories that go up to 4 levels deep, and it's really no wonder it's so confusing for people to figure out where to submit their artwork.
The conclusion I've come to is simplicity. While I'm not about to rip apart everything and make 6 stand alone categories, I do believe that there is a lot we can do to simplify the category tree. That includes some of the following:
1. Merging categories that ma

Traditional and Digital art are both completely different mediums, able to create the same product. It is possible to paint a beautiful, watercolor-like painting digitally, as well as achieve the cleanliness and color options of a digital piece traditionally. Therefore, using one or the other to express ourselves creatively is, just like many things in life, just an option. People may have personal, sometimes even illogical reasons for using one or the other and that's fine. Today, however, I'm a cheerleader for the "traditional side", and I offer you 5 reasons to do it traditionally!

It's not just the artwork that tells you something about it's creator - on the internet, the way you present it is at least equally as important. Your painting can be a masterpiece, hanged in a local gallery, but as long as you post a blurry, badly cropped picture named "1564873" along with "..." in an artist's description, nobody will ever bother visiting your gallery. Creating a nice, representative profile page and setting a certain visual quality standard takes extra time and effort, but if you really care for your work (even if it's just a hobby), you should treat it with some respect.

Reasons to feature
"Why bother" is a question that a proud community member never asks himself. First of all, DeviantArt is a place of inspiration filled with pictures, rarely a person gets by without browsing art and eventually "faving" them. Some people focus entirely on collecting artworks into their Favorites folders - this action and displaying artworks in your journal or a poll brings me to the first reason, supporting the artist. Further than that, it starts a dialogue between you and the featured artist (either via Mentions or by letting them know about the feature yourself).

You're right! After all, you are a human being, not a machine, waking up early every morning, heading to school/work, afterwards taking care of the household/kids/your homework, studying, you barely even finish all the tasks during the 24 hours that's been given to everyone.

2. Overcoming your fears
By constantly challenging yourself, you can get rid of fears that used to follow you. You will no longer be worried, you'll know you can count on yourself.

When Frustration calls you more often than your mother does, it's time to take an action!

✿ Watercolor Equipment
Watercolor is a painting technique in which the paints are made of pigments suspended in a water-soluble binder. Usually, the result is transparent and appear luminous because the pigments are laid down in a relatively pure form with a few fillers obscuring the pigment color. This medium was never taken as seriously as "high art" techniques such as oil painting and was rather seen as pale and miniaturist, but it's gradually reclaiming it's place as a vehicle for the most beautiful and unexpected artistic expression. Watercolor can be vibrant and large, very vital, spontaneous and leaning a little on luck. All these aspects make watercolor painting a medium with great potential for new discoveries.

I don't think my answer has changed since I was asked as a child. I never saw much need for invisibility. I don't think I would enjoy being a mind reader. And sure, shooting laser beams out of my hands would be fun, but there's something that I've always been drawn to more.

To me, flight represents freedom. It's the ability to travel around without borders, coming and going as you please. I initially associate it with being closer to nature, as well, somethin

Seniority Announcements - January 2013Seniority Announcements - January 2013 in DeviantART Announcements More Like This
This article marks the latest additions to the dizzy height of Senior members in our community. With just over 1000 deviants holding the highly saught after ` -- it's clearly a moment that deserves recognition.
So what does it take to become a Senior? That's a question many have asked and have never really been able to get a straight answer on. Some have gained Seniority as a thank you for their time spent as a Volunteer, or to recognise their contribution to a particular project or collaborative action. Some have gained Seniority because of their community spirit, providing help and assistance to many other deviants and taking time out to promote the work of others in the community.
Some people have received Seniority because of their artistic endevours, having a positive influence on their peers by sharing resources, providing constructive criticism and by being a voice that stands out above the many other

Hey there, my name is Anne—some people also call me CSS fairy - and I'm just a glitter spreading, CSS loving random person from Germany. DeviantART is part of my life since 9 years already. While I started with traditional and digital art, I am now doing kind of everything. I love baking, crafting (with plywood for example), designing and just giving new things a try in general. I am a communication designer, who just enjoys being creative in all ways possible.

"I've seen things you people wouldn't believe. Attack ships on fire off the shoulder of Orion. I watched C-beams glitter in the dark near the Tannhauser gate. All those moments will be lost in time... like tears in rain... Time to die."

Every time we open our eyes in the morning as each new day breaks, two worlds flow forth, each penetrating into the other, as the celestial portal gate separating them is once again raised. One’s inner world, of mind and being, pierces the outer world of light and raw data, seeking to hunt and gather mental sustenance. The outer world floods into our minds like a data tsunami, seeking to reconfigure the secret landscape of last night’s perfectly crafted dream state. Both worlds do battle to rearrange and make sense of the other. It is the yin and yang, by which we create and recreate the world – and the world invades and recreates each one of
The Traditional Through a Cracked PrismCreating art for those who feel a real resonance with traditional anchoring fairy tales, ~cidaq also draws in those who enjoy darker tales of mystery and films noir. As a storyteller who can create narratives in both words and watercolors, she often comes up with short stories to accompany her art.The Traditional Through a Cracked Prism in Personal More Like This

modern, very mischievous intelligence is obviously at play. The media of pencil, inks and watercolors
as well as the skilled technique and composition are solidly anchored in the traditional, but the

There is one deviantART artist’s “What I Did on My Summer Vacation” essay to which attention must definitely be paid. John Paul Thornton is an artist and art teacher who has been aptly described as an “artist-warrior.” Renowned for his portraits of missing children, he has dedicated his life’s journey to bringing the spiritual healing powers of art to sufferers in need of miracles all around the world. His latest point of “magical exchange” is Haiti, still devastated from the January 2010 earthquake, from whence he transmitted his July 7 journal entry, which is reprinted here for those who didn’t catch it this summer on his page. John Paul is an exemplar of the spirit that must be embraced, emulated and cultivated by all the individual points of love and hope (you guys reading this) in the deviantART community worldwide – if art is to fulfill its

The Art of Capturing Souls:icontechgnotic:The Art of Capturing Souls in Personal More Like This
The human face, usually that of one’s mother, is the first visual connection a new human being has with the world. That face is the world. Psychologists tell us that the greater percentage of what we communicate with each other in any conversation is transmitted and received through our reading of each other’s facial expressions during our chat – and more often than not, we trust the truth to be what we read in another’s face, this truth being as often as not contrary to the words being spoken.
Crazy Horse had no fear of leading his warriors against Custer’s guns at the Little Big Horn, but he wouldn’t let his picture be taken on his deathbed, lest his soul be captured in the photograph. For Crazy Horse it may indeed have been more than the mere chronicling of the death of a particular moment in time that was captured. Maybe it’s because of our unique evolutionary trajectory (w

You now have the option to include/exclude your journal from the Journal Portal, and from your Journal Tab's new "Featured" section.
The Journal Portal in the footer of deviantART now pulls from the Journals category but excludes all "Personal" posts. This means, you must categorize your Journal on submission for it to even qualify to appear in the footer of dA. This has substantially increased the quality of posts that appear there.

The Timeless Code of the Eternal OutsiderWhy Drive will be the movie that is remembered in years to come. Film Noir is a genre of “life in the shadows” movies that became popular in America during the uncertain times of World War II. Westerns have remained a shorthand for the American psyche with their sullen outsiders with a personal code of honor bucking the system. Samurai films mirror the lone avenger protagonist, but set against a longing for a lost society of incorruptible values. Now and again a notable contemporary noir or western or samurai film emerges with little fanfare amidst all the commercial cacophony of the louder, bolder, more spectacular action films that rule today’s box office. One such gem of film blending all three genres flashed out of the shadows briefly in 2011. It’s called “Drive” and I think it is the greatest artistic achievement of the past year. The Timeless Code of the Eternal Outsider in Personal More Like This

Is a photograph only a record, something created by a machine? Can photography ever truly be considered art? That question seems quaint and laughable these days, but if you do a little research you will find that once upon a time it was a raging debate. Thankfully a consensus has been reached that the agency of the photographer – his or her eye and critical mind – choosing the subject and manipulating the machine (the camera that is the art instrument) is what establishes photographs as potential works of art when created by an artist-photographer. Pretty basic common sense, huh? So why then is there now a debate as to whether FRACTAL ART is truly art – or just something produced by poking patterns into a computer? Isn't it just really random e-graffiti, a fibonacci button mash?
Here we go again… Hopefully it won’t take nearly a century again before fractal art is recog
