“When I left high school, I had all my plans to go to college, but I had no money. And I decided then, the best thing for me to do is not worry about getting money to go to college — I will educate myself. I walked down the street, I walked into a library, I would go to the library three days a week for ten years and I would educate myself. It’s all FREE, that’s the great thing about libraries! Most of you can afford to go to college, but if you wanna educate yourself completely, go to the library and educate yourself. When I was 28 years old, I graduated from Library.”

So spoke the recently departed Ray Bradbury, a seminal (possibly the seminal) American fantasy & science fiction writer. Today, aspiring sci-fi and fantasy writers study his novels and short stories as their core ed

What is it about a fictional character first introduced to the public in Great Britain in 1887 that has kept him being reincarnated, with generationally-correct upgrades, over and over again in film and on television? Who is this literary hero whose portrayal over the past century by such past masters as Basil Rathbone and Jeremy Brett to today’s vanguard talents Robert Downey, Jr. and Benedict Cumberbatch has inspired such a continuing outpouring of fan appreciation?

“The Secret Garden” was a serialized children’s story, by Frances Hodgson Burnett, written in 1910—11. It’s all about a troubled little girl coming alive in a secret place she alone has found the key to. Today, one’s “secret garden” evokes any place a person goes to be alone with their most private thoughts—that place sometimes existing only in mind in fantasy or memory.

Sometimes in youth we play crazy mind games. One gruesome game was trying to think of the worst way to die. Or even better, the "which would you choose" version of the same conceit. Another was what would be the worst torture to endure. If there is one international touchstone that best captures youthful fears and wonders in speculation of what lies beyond the veil of death and awaits as possible punishment for our sins, it must be - to the few who have actually read it to the millions who "know" it – "Dante's Inferno." Who does not shiver at the thought of being lost somewhere in the "Nine Rings of Hell?"

portrait of a WW2 vet...
When a subject poses to have his or her photograph taken, the subject tries to project a message about himself or
herself by how he or she “poses”, by the attitude of his or her body language or facial expression.
If the subject is posed by the photographer, the body pulled and prodded into the desired angles,
the facial expression “directed”, it is the photographer who is intending to communicate a message.
In either case, posing or posed, there is undeniably something “false” in the representation.

So, I said it might take me a while, but with the help of some awesome people on Tumblr and a really good friend, I think I have my gender figured out.
I feel right calling myself agender, so if you would please refrain from referring to me as a girl, that would be awesome. I prefer they/them pronouns, but she/her are still okay on certain occasions. Just no he/his, thank you.
You can still call me Amber if you really want to, but my preferred name is Robin. I'll answer to both, though.
Thank you for being so understanding, it really made the whole process a lot easier knowing I had people who wanted to help me out and were willing to be patient with me while I was still figuring everything out.
It really means a lot to me, honestly.
Thank you for reading~
Have a wonderful Friday!
Hurrdurr Titles are Hard Let me start this incredibly important Journal by saying that Steven Stone is a freaking midget compared to Lysandre and I cannot stop laughing about it. I know it's rude but... He's just so tiny! Tiny man.Hurrdurr Titles are Hard in Personal More Like This
I have no room to talk because I am pretty sure I'm about his height, but it's still funny.
I don't have a whole lot to say?
I mean, the first semester is coming to a close--and for once I'm actually really sad about that--and that means finals and new classes. Christmas is in like... 1 day, so I'm super stoked about that, and work is finally getting better!
I'm really enjoying the people I work with, even if I do have to take a moment to recharge my social battery every once in a while, and now that I'm in the swing of things, I'm not really all that stressed out, either. Wednesday I work 9-5, but that should hopefully be my last 8 hour shift, especially since I'm finally moving to Kid's next week.
Speaking of next week; my friend Ashley's [Kenren1st's] birth
FinalsSecond day of finals is here and I'm basically about ready to fall over and die lmaoFinals in Personal More Like This
Luckily for me, I did my final performance in Drama yesterday, so I get to go home at 9:50 instead of going to Drama.
Sometimes I love having an A Day/B Day schedule. It's so much more relaxing.
Anyway, with my last final about to be printed and turned in, I'm done with my first semester. I'm actually kind of sad, because I really enjoyed this semester - even if work got in the way of my enjoyment. It was much more fun and a lot more exciting than I expected it to be, so I have high hopes for next semester.
I also have pretty high hopes for Senior Year, but we'll cross that bridge when we get to it.
Well, that's about it.
Have a good day~!
Big NewsSo yesterday I came out and told my parents about my girlfriend, and despite my expectations, my parents were understanding! I was so happy I actually cried and now I'm so relieved that I don't have to pretend to be straight any more.Big News in Personal More Like This
It's such a weight off my shoulders, and I'm just so excited that they're okay with my decision to date a girl instead.
They also understood my sexuality and asked respectful questions about it.
It's just really nice to have them understand, because I wasn't sure they would.
Also, I went and saw the new Transformers movie with Bella on Wednesday, and it was amazing.
I was really upset about quite a few plot points, but overall it was a really good movie and I would definitely see it again.
That's all for now, sorry it's really short.
Have a happy and safe 4th of July!

I haven't updated in a while, so I decided I'd better do that before I disappear for 11 days.
There hasn't been a whole lot going on up until now, but there's going to be a lot going on starting tomorrow evening!
First things first: I finally started actually playing Persona Q! At least, the Persona 3 story.
It's really great, and I love the layout of the Labyrinth! The dungeon crawler feeling you get against the FOEs is really cool (even though I still get freaked out when I'm trying to move and they're right behind me), and I like the squad mechanic much more than the "pick your teams individually before entering" mechanic from P3.
Not as much of a fan of the Main/Sub Persona mechanic, but it's nice being able to summon more than one at the same time; rather than being limited to switching to a new Persona and waiting to use their skills that turn, then switching to another and waiting to use their skills. That was cumbersome and kind of ann

The other group got third, and overall we did really well. We even beat three groups of college students! I'm so happy about that.
I actually cried after the award was given to us I was so relieved and happy we had won even though we only had a week to prepare.
So that was great.
But I'm really upset right now because even though I told my manager at work that I couldn't work this week, I'm scheduled for 8 hours on Saturday. EIGHT HOURS. I AM SO STRESSED.
That's all, thanks for reading

Luckily for me I have classes I like. Even if I do have to deal with someone I don't in the class I wanted to avoid them the most in. I know I'm going to love Creative Writing, especially because I'm so interested in furthering my writing abilities. It'll be a great class for me, I'm sure. Not that we didn't laugh or anything, it was just kind of funny.
I have a free block on A days, which is nice. That means I can do homework or whatever when I'm not in Drama, and it's right before Algebra II, so that's perfect for me. It'll also help w

Guess Who's Home? It's me. Just in case you didn't know.Guess Who's Home? in Personal More Like This
I got home at 1 AM yesterday morning, and have been super jet lagged since then. When I woke up yesterday, I immediately wanted to go back to bed. I went out and got coffee with my dad, then we went to lunch, then we went back home. I had to literally dance around the kitchen to not fall asleep, since that was a very real probability all day.
The trip was amazing!! I really, really enjoyed myself the whole time, even though I was exhausted for 9/10 of it. It didn't really matter though, my tiredness only settled in when we were on trains or sitting idly somewhere, it didn't affect me otherwise.
Japan is super pretty! The sakura blossoms were in full bloom while we were there, and that just made everything super nice. Unfortunately it kind of played with my allergies a little bit, but other than that I was pretty much fine. Honestly, the worst part of the trip was coming home. And the 9 hour flights to and from Tokyo/Narita.
*sighs*I don't know what happened, but suddenly I'm really down and not very motivated to do anything. I had that incredible high last night at the Blue Man Group concert, and then I was sad again.*sighs* in Personal More Like This
I'm not sure if it's because I'm stressed over friends and social issues or what, but I feel like I'm kind of trapped right now.
Everything's caving in on me and I don't know what to do.
...Sorry for the sad, I just needed to vent.

Second: I'm not, really, because you all need to hear this.
I was outside taking a walk with Zack and Lukas when we passed a little boy who looked to be no older than six. He was dressed in a tuxedo with a red necktie and a little pin on his chest. And... He was holding a folded up American flag.
Do you know what that means? If you don't, let me explain:
If your husband/wife goes out to war and dies out there, when the troops come back, an officer will hand the spouse a folded flag. Now, if you have a son/daughter and both parents die... The flag goes to the kid.
That means this six year old little boy lost both of his parents. And. I just cried. I'm still crying. I hope you all know that little boy is the strongest little kid I have ever met. He wasn't even crying yet.
Please pray for him. Even if you aren't Christian or Catholic or whatever. I just want that little boy to know he's being watched over so he doesn't follow his parents

For this challenge, we are defining Cubism as an art style in which instead of depicting objects from one viewpoint, the artist depicts the subject from multiple viewpoints to represent the subject in a greater context. Often, the surfaces intersect at seemingly random angles, removing a coherent sense of depth. The background and object planes interpenetrate one another to create a shallow ambiguous space.
