Another shot from sørstraumen, this one during a time-lapse where the aurora is peaking, increased the orange light for more effect, and used warmer colors.

Shot with nikon d800, 14mm, iso 3200, 8 seconds.

Not getting fully dark anymore, and luckily the aurora has been kind once more, and in wake of the mega flare that is due to hit tomorrow, I would say the pre-show is very promising. :)

Hope you guys like this.

A background I made for myself as desktop. It should be an alien planet with blue sun and electric blue water. If you like it you can use it, if not please ignore it;). The real location is Echerntal in Austria.

Mountain path in Austria. I'm in doupt that the rodden railings are able to stop a falling person but they look quite decorative.

Skier's paradise, Mandlwand in Austria. Most beautiful it is in the early evening hours, when the lifts have closed and most people gone home.

The setting Moon lights up the landscape as an Aurora Australis display dances on the horizon and The Milky Way stretches overhead.

Tasmania, Australia 20th of May 2013
360 x 180 degree panorama made from 20 individual images. Images stitched together in PTGui Pro.

Something a little bit different from the everyday. Taken the same night as my last upload "Tranquility." It was shot about half an hour later from beside the sandstone rock outcrop at about the 11 o'clock position in this fisheye projection.

2013 Eta Aquarids meteor shower. The radiant for this meteor shower was rising in the north east in the early hours but after observing all the sections of sky the longer and brighter meteors seemed to be predominately in the opposite direction, but if you traced their paths back through the sky most were coming from the radiant point. The meteors that I observed near the radiant were all very short lived and faint.
I had my camera shooting continuous frames. This picture is compiled from one base frame for the landscape, sky and the meteor to the left of the tree. I then went through the other frames with this composition and selected the ones with meteors and masked them on top of the base image. Thin, high level cloud has bloated some of the stars and made them appear much larger and brighter than normal (particularly the star on the left).

Did anyone else go meteor hunting?

Trial Bay, Tasmania. AUS

My one and only nightsky scape from my recent trip to Tasmania and about the only time I saw the stars. It was either raining or just cloudy for most of the time. About half an hour after I did this shoot the clouds rolled back in. The faint bands and patches in the sky are from thin cloud so even for this shot I didn't have completely clear skies. Crescent moon just off to the top right of frame is lighting up the landscape.
I had a star trail shoot in progress before I did this but after only 15 minutes or so a couple of guys came down the road to launch their boat and seeing as I was setup in the water at the end of the boat ramp I had to move.

Same location just a couple of hours earlier.....
