Yoshi StoryI have to admit, I am incredibly surprised by the overwhelming success and appreciation of the recent comic "A Yoshi Story"Yoshi Story in Personal More Like This
In less than 24 hours the comic has generated almost 200,000 views and been featured on a number of different outlooks including DA's tumblr, facebook, ICanHasCheezeburger, Memebase, and more.
As much as I would like to take credit for the comic, I want people to give proper credit due to DA user Commisar-Erdno for writing the story in the first place. All I did was draw it. Credit for the concept and execution goes to Erdno. So please be sure to check their DA page out and tell them how much you loved the comic.
It's also rather fun to see the comic being used as a Rorschach Test of people's optimism/pessimism. Either way, it's still fun to see everyone's interpretations of the story.
So thank you everyone for your support. I really did not expect a comic about a Yoshi sacrificing itself to save Mario to become so popular and loved by s

CGI Zelda Movie Shut Down... 6 Years Ago
Imagi Animation Studios, the company responsible for the CGI Astro Boy and TMNT movies, made a 1 minute test reel to show to Nintendo trying to pitch for a Legend of Zelda movie. The pitch made in 2007 was ultimately turned down by Nintendo, likely due to Nintendo being extraordinarily squeamish about letting an American animation company handle one of their properties after the abysmal failure of the live action Super Mario Bros movie. And hopes that this project would ever be looked at again were rendered null and void when the american branch of the animation company was shut down back in 2010.
But the good news for everyone is that you can see this

Nintendo announced recently that Luigi will be getting quite a bit of due attention this year, declaring 2013 to be "the year of Luigi." First he'll be staring in the Luigi's Mansion sequel for the 3DS, then he will be a big component of the next Mario and Luigi RPG on the 3DS. In the RPG game, Mario will enter Luigi's dreams where Luigi can be as awesome, if not better than, his overshadowing brother. Poking and prodding Luigi's face on the touch screen will also alter the dream world, allowing Mario to proceed through obstacles. And if that wasn't enough, there is a new DLC package planned for New Super Mario Bros U which basically adds an entire game's worth of new levels exclusively to be played by Luigi. Pretty solid stuff, Nintendo. Now say that 2014 is the year of the Peach!

Sucker PunchedThis is a LONG one so settle in!Sucker Punched in Personal More Like This
I’ve been re-watching Sucker Punch a lot lately and have been humorously admiring how misunderstood it is. It’s almost comical how a movie that comes right out and says “I am about the negative connotations surrounding the constant sexual abuse and objectification that women endure,” gets reviewed and dismissed as “just another pandering male geek fantasy of objectified sexualized women.”
I could write a book on the various subtle metaphors and messages Sucker Punch visualizes, but I don’t wanna bore you all. But to demonstrate what I mean let’s just dissect a small piece of it.
Before we begin we need to understand two things. First, Director Zach Snyder made the film with the express intent of it being a feminist critique on geek culture. If you don’t believe me, hear it from his own words: http://www.filmschoolrejects.com/features/interview-zack-snyder-on-the-sexuality-and-world

The Echo chamber dilemmaThe promise of the Internet was that unlimited information and experiences would draw us together. But instead it seems to have driven us apart. The Echo chamber dilemma in Personal More Like This
For years I've observed this behavior but haven't been able to vocalize it correctly. Originally I called the behavior of collective opinions as "the hive mentality" of the Internet. But that wasn't exactly right and I often got called out on it. The most prominent example was when I made a comic about a guy disagreeing with opinions and being shouted at till he remained quiet, eventually fading into the background with everyone else. The consensus of that comic was that if you disagree with someone you aren't bullied into not speaking, but instead are free to go someplace else where people who do agree with you exist. And you know what? That wasn't what i was trying to convey, but is sadly true. The Internet is not a hive mind. It's many tiny pocket echo chambers of mutual agreements.
And this is becoming a growing problem, I think, because n
Sexy VS SexistIt seems that the gaming world is finally waking up to the fact that women DO actually play video games. They (the gaming industry) are not being mature about it, but the fact that a female perspective and voice is being heard more and more is a very good thing in my books.Sexy VS Sexist in Personal More Like This
The latest controversy to break out in the video game world has been over niche gaming studio Vanillaware's recent title "Dragon's Crown," and the absurdly sexualized female character of "The Sorceress" http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mQKCgal1vdw
Some people are, naturally, offended that such a ludicrous character design with no sense of reality or function even exists, while the other side keeps saying "why are we even talking about this?" Both sides are being vocal, but they also seem to be talking past one another. One side seems to want to rid gaming entirely of sexy character designs, while the other seems to think this is some sort of "feminist agenda" and are being sexist in response because they fear having a

Despite the fact that kickstarters are payed for by people who've made the decision they want to contribute their money to the project, Anita came under attack from gamers for "scamming" audiences when her fund far exceeded the target goal. Wounds, bruises, and blood gush out the more you beat her up in this virtual game, and it's drawn some widespread attention.
Whether you agree with her viewpoint is not the issue, it's the fact that this retaliation is just "wrong" on so many levels. Do these people realize that what they're doing is shooting themselves in the foot? Making a video game where you beat up someone who's making

Americans have a long summer vacation tradition of visiting the foreign capitals of the world and being sure to spend at least one day in each nation’s most iconic art museum. In Paris, we visit the Louvre. In Madrid, the Prado. In Rome, the Borghese. We feel far more comfortable in identifying the different peoples of our planet through examples of their greatest art works than we do about identifying ourselves as being represented by any one iconic “American” art museum or artist. Maybe the country is just too big for one musuem and so it has always fallen to our pop arts to carry the true visual narrative of what’s going on in the hearts and minds of the masses.

Thanks to the rebellion/revolution, the British Government changed the way it conducted itself so as to ensure such an incident would never happen again.
Had they not, a revolution similar to that seen in France, 1789, would have very likely occurred on home turf.
The French leadership maintained their "all powerful" façade, and in assisting the American colonies, spent a fortune. This further angered their already irate people, who, in seeing that it could be done, decided to have a little revolution of their own.
So, with the economy booming thanks to renewed transatlantic trade between Fair Blighty and the newly formed United States and with Britain's arch enemy France focused on tearing itself apart, there was nothing to stop the Empire's expansion.

Only a handful of those, however, can I refer to as being "good". Or even "tolerable".
Having watched them for most of my life, going back to things like Mysterious Cities of Gold and the original Astro Boy, I can say with a certain degree of authority that: Japanese storytelling is a bit wank. Daring and dynamic visuals, sure. Crap narrative.
And it can't ALL be blamed on "bad translation".
There's a wide range of gripes to be had, but chief among them these days is that the major characters, those who one would assume you're to root for, across however many episodes the series consists of, are generally complete and utter dicks.

Two of my all time favourite games are Shining Force 2 and Skies of Arcadia, both of which featured turn-based combat and felt epic as a result.
But with action games taking a fore of late, everything just felt like it had started to become a rush. You never have time to savour anything anymore. The character designs, the music, the monsters, the setting. With a turn based combat you can take your time and enjoy it all, and, most importantly, when you fail you KNOW it was your fault, not a shoddy camera angle or sluggish controls.
I think that's why the last squad-based RPG I played was Final Fantasy XII, which introduced Real Time Battles. Don't get me wrong, it worked really well, but I just felt it wasn't as

It's a known problem, especially with the first generation of 360 machines and as mine is a "Launch Team" version (If you worked for M$ at the time, they gave you a special edition one with green plating) it certainly falls into that category.
Something to do with the cheap, shoddy soldering used by M$.

The Medusa pepper is producing fruit but it's all dry and wrinkly, and they're not even worth eating even when they turn out good.
The Habanero plant is a dick. It's been flowering for months but hasn't produced any fruit.
It doesn't look particularly healthy, but it hasn't died yet either so it seems alright.
And yes, I've tried to pollinate it.
I think I'll get a Ghost pepper plant soon too.
Recently ate a whole Scotch Bonnet pepper. (Store bought unfortunately, I haven't grown any yet.)
It wasn't actually quite as bad as I thought it would be. I was only in pain for like half an hour.
Updates And BreakdownsSo....I decided to write a little update on my whereabouts, just incase anyone cares!Updates And Breakdowns in Personal More Like This
First of all, I wrote some new poems, and drew some new things, though I won't upload the drawings, basically because they are nudes, nudes that pretty much are pornographic, so yeah.
The poems though....
I'm not able to save files on the comuter they provide, so I still need my laptop, but I want to get it here when i have internet access from it, so that's why you won't see many uploads from me any time soon.
If you want to read poems from me though, I can post them in my journals, please leave a comment so I know if it's worth posting them here, as in if enough people will read them.
Now I only have six minutes left, so I'm rushing this...
I'm doing well, an not so well.
All the things that are doing good is my homework and concentration in school, it's really a lot better, and I got a lot of stuff done.
My social contacts are doing better too, I'm feeling goood here, and not like an outsider.

"Oh...have I interrupted you two by anything...important?" a teasing voice came from the unknown figure.
I was still too shocked to say anything
"No...not...you...this is Hailey" as my eyes adjusted a bit I could see he was pointing at me, his voice was unstable
"I met her outside...I wanted her to meet some of the others"
"Ah, I understand....and, Hailey, can we trust you?" The stranger who's name I still didn't know asked
I couldn't see his face yet, for the light was making it impossible to see, but I noticed he was tall...really tall, taller than Luis.
"Trust me...?" I asked with a squeaky voice
The stranger laughed.
"We can trust her." Luis said in a serious tone

The journey, the adventure was finished in her head, all ready to be screamed out into the world, but this little wall inside kept her pale hand from moving.
Her heart was beating fast with despair and longing, she so badly wanted the weight on her shoulders to be released, to use the inspiration it gave her.
She wanted the burning in her veins to go away, the cramps and the ache in her head, and she knew all she had to do was to dispel the monster on the sheet of paper in front of her.
She rubbed over her eyes, her tired, green eyes and then yawned as she leaned back in the comfy chair she was sitting on.
But she didn't let go of the pen, she waited, the years she had lived until now had taught her to be pati

And it works out fine
But then it points out all mistakes

And something has taken control
And something won't let us breathe
Something will teach us fear
And I'm on ny way to believing

Live the dream, don't talk about it!Doug TenNapel, independent comics creator, is an inspiration to me in many ways. He has a fun, accessible art style that is dramatic and fresh. His story telling is always askew in the best of ways. I don't think I've read one of his graphic novels without having some smiles and a surprise or two along the way. On top of that, he is outspoken about almost everything in his life. (I think of him as the Rush Limbaugh of comics- oh man, that sounds really bad, but early Rush, not present day Rush, if that helps.) I agree with most things he states on Facebook. BUT- the thing I am most inspired about him is his drive (in the old days we would call that "work ethic"). The guy does NOT give up. Because of that, he single-handedly will put out a new graphic novel a year. While creating a webcomic. While pitching new TV show development ideas in Hollywood. While running a half marathon. My step father once told me, when I was a kid, that what made someone a professional rather than an amateur was that they were paid for what they did. He was wrong.
Many people use my step father's explanation for what makes a professional and I find that it leads to shoddy workmanship because it takes the focus off of getting good at what we do and shifts it to getting good enough to get paid. Or even worse just getting paid. The craft is often thrown out the window in favor of just doing whatever it takes t

I have two personal stories that have helped me gauge and answer that question for myself. I hope they help you too.
(SIDE NOTE: I believe in a God and I believe that God loves me and leads my path but that I have free will and can turn from his leading and do my "own thing". So much so, that I'm at the point where I think I want to start an "online art school". Why the quotation marks? Without giving out much information because this is all a bit early, I want to talk about the motivations and goals we're trying to address with this future site. I said "we" on purpose. My Progression As A Disney Animator
by Tom Bancroft
Walt Disney is quoted as saying that it takes 10 years to make a great animator.
When I was first coming out of California Institute of the Arts and joining a Disney internship in 1988, hearing that quote was devastating. 10 years? That's FOREVER! I wanted to be a full-fledged Disney animator in TWO years! I rationalized that that was a way of thinking from the 40s and today, we move at a quicker pace, so-

How do I find MY STYLE?I've gotten that question a bunch of times. Here's some thoughts on it:How do I find MY STYLE? in Personal More Like This
As far as "Style" questions go, I dodge those like crazy. Honestly, I don't feel I have much of a style. I never have. I have an "adaptable" ability to draw like Disney, Nick, etc. Whatever I need to draw like for a given job. Within reason. Some cruder styles (like, say, a Mike Judge style) would be harder for me because its hard to break drawing rules you've been taught for so many years. Yes, I'd say some of my "Bancroft girls" have my style but its also kind of a Disney style. In my opinion there are two kinds of "style" artists: the ones that have a SUPER destinct style (like "Cheeks" or Jack Kirby) that have been drawing that way since the beginning and can't draw any other way, and the rest of us- whose style will evolve through the years based on work experiences and artistic influences. The latter won't have extremely strong styles but will be more adaptable to other styles. We tend to follow up
Disney layoffs, 2D animation, and youA very nervous animation student (he didn't say, but I assume he is studying 2D animation) asked me about my opinions on the state of animation these days. What are the companies thinking with laying off all the employees, not doing 2D animation, canceling great TV series, etc.? Are the business people just evil? AND the even bigger question: Is John Lassiter a jerk (or worse) for letting all the 2D animators at Disney go yesterday?Disney layoffs, 2D animation, and you in Personal More Like This
MY ANSWER: I have a slightly controversial (for an artist) perspective on businesses and business people. Over all, I like them. At times, I have even been grateful for them. (Steady paychecks should never be taken for granted. Wait till you don't have one one day, then you'll know!) Remember, we live in a world where businesses are expected to make money to stay alive. It's called capitalism. Others call it "business". That means, the animation world isn't any different from any other job/company

Today captain declared as "REMEMBERANCES OF THE PAST DAY".
The day begun with me getting smacked with a broken laptop and yells "YOU'VE GOT MAIL!".
I tried to protest that laptops weren't attacking people in the mornings back in the past. To this, Captain declared that in fact they didn't have to, because users were so addicted to reading their daily mail facts that every morning they woke up smacking their heads on their laptops.
Then my head was treated to a barrage of empty, metal SPAM cans with words "SPAM MAIL! DODGE THE SPAM! USE FILTERS!".
With these words, captain gave me two old tennis rackets. The tennis rackets had yellow duck-tape stickers on them with words "DELETE" and "BLOCK EMAIL ADDRESS".
The spam can attack didn't end there, Pilot's job for today was hiding behind building ruins and throwing the spam cans at me at random intervals with yells of "INCREASE YOUR GENITAL SIZE!", "RUSSIAN BRIDE LOVES YOU" and "I AM NIGERIAN PRINCE WITH 56 BILL

I WAS MOST PERTURBED/DISTURBED/ANNOYED/JAXTAPOSED TO DISCOVER THAT OUR LOVELY UNIVERSE IS SHRINKING!
AS A CONSTITUENT OF THE UNIVERSE AND HIGHLY RESPECTABLE REPRESENTATIVE OF PLANET EARTH AND KING OF THE NATION OF CAPTANIA, I FIND THIS UNSUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT UNNACEPTABLE AND MUST INSIST THAT YOU TAKE ACTION TO RETURN THE UNIVERSE TO ITS RIGHTFUL SIZE OR AT LEAST PREVENT ANY FURTHER REDUCTIONS.
I KNOW, YOU THINK IT'S OKAY, THE UNIVERSE IS INFINITE, AND YOU THINK YOU CAN JUST IGNORE THIS ISSUE IN HOPES THAT IT WILL GO AWAY.
HOWEVER, ACCORDING TO MY CALCULATIONS, THE END OF THE UNIVERSE IS INEVITABLE AND WE HAVE ONLY 60 CYCLES LEFT AT BEST, MAYBE 80 UNTIL OUR UNIVERSE CEASES TO EXIST ENTIRELY, IT'S ENERGY PERMANENTLY SHIFTING INTO ANOTHER STATE OF EXISTENCE.
OH BEHALF OF THE PEOPLES OF CAPTANIA (POPULATION: 4) I APPEAL TO YOUR HYPER-GALACTIC-MIND TO CONSIDER MY CASE AND HAVE IT REVIEWED BEFORE THE END O

College LifeI don't really talk too much about my daily life on dA since I didn't want to spam everyone with constant horror stories of my time in the kitchen (which is why I do that on fb https://www.facebook.com/FisheyePlacebo/photos_stream instead) but today, I would like to share some of the extra "special" moments during my college life (even though I graduated already).College Life in Personal More Like This

Life has been pretty crazy lately. I just moved to a new apartment and we won't get our internet until a week later so I just want announce a few things while I still have the chance (using my friend's wifi atm).
1. Fanime was amazing! Thank you all who dropped by my table, and sorry that I lost my voice on the 4th day too much talking lol... It was great making new friends, hanging out with old friends, and just seeing other deviants in real life! I'm sorry a lot of the prints sold out on the first day, but I will try to open online sales for certain prints once I get my internet back. And I will definitely print more for future conventions
My deepest apologies for not having 1000 Words for Fanime. The printers at Active Media Publishing http://www.activemediapublishing.com/ promised over and over that they would have it ready, but they didn't, and when we called them about it, they hung up on us. As a matter of fact, we still don't have the book
Respect YourselfMy friend shared this video to warn other artists about how she was taken advantage of, and I believe this is a very important message that every artist should hear.Respect Yourself in Personal More Like This
I've lost count of how many times someone, be it a big corporation or an individual, have asked me to illustrate for them for free. It will always go something like this "You draw this for us, and we will include your name in the credits. That's good publicity for you!" as if such a pathetic offer holds any merit.
There was one specific case where a guy wanted to use my drawing as a book cover but didn't want to pay. He said he might print up to 50,000 books, so that's like an amazing offer of 50,000 views for me right? Wrong. 50,000 is nothing. We live in the information revolution. Don't forget we have places like Deviantart, tumblr, and all those social networking sites. Sharing art, like sharing any information, has never been easier. You don't have to degrade yourself for some disrespectful publisher to get you art se

I can honestly say that I grew up with this community and everyone here has taught me so much, and not just about art, but also on how to be a person. When I first got this account at the age of 12, I could have never imagined how much it has shaped my life and career. It sounds cliche but I probably wouldn't have became an artist if it hadn't been for everyone here on deviantART. Through all of the ups and downs in life, the community has always been the support and inspiration that kept me going.
I hope to give back as much as everyone has given me. I will continue to create more comics, tutorials and art in the future. I will never stop, and I have you all to thank for that.
So truly, thank you!

I will be in the Artist Alley at table number #233 which is right by the entrance!
I'll be selling my prints as usual
Come by and hang out! Some people have told me online that they were too shy to talk to me in person. I love to make new friends at cons so don't be shy!
As I've mentioned in my last post, Fanime has prohibited me from selling my 1000 Words book because it was professionally published. Fanime is the only convention that has such a weird rule without providing a Small Press option for artists with published works. Unfortunately, that means if you were hoping to get a copy of the book this year, it won't be at Fanime. However, I will also be at Anime Expo and Kintoki-con with all the books :

(This is pretty obvious so I didn't think I need to point it out but it seems that some people need to hear it: No, I don't think all religious people are like this. Yes, I do know these are extreme cases. But the point is that these are all recent events and we shouldn't live in a world where this kind of intolerance still exists. I've lost count the number of times that I've been harassed by Christians so the next time you see someone picking on gay people, saying atheists should be killed, don't be a bystander and just let it happen. Speak up. Stop a crime before it happens.)

In other news, there's a great new program for comic artists that I would like to share. It's part of Tapastic's Primetime Publishing Program (PPP) that pays comic artists based on the amount of page views they generate. If you are a comic artist, then you can make some extra money doing what you love. If you're not a comic artist, you can still check out all the cool webcomics on Tapastic.com and help support the artists that way

We've been over whelmed with comments and questions for the past week, so we would like to answer some frequently asked questions here!
Q: When and where can I order a pair?
A: We are currently working making a Kickstarter crowd funding campaign. Once the Kickstarter is up, hopefully in a month or two, you can pre-order through the Kickstarter. We will e-mail everyone and post the link to the Kickstarter when that happens. If you haven't signed up for e-mail updates yet, you can do so at http://www.axentwear.com/
Q: How much will the headphones cost?
A: We're aiming to keep the price as low as possible without compromising quality. The price we've decided on is $115.
Q: Will you ship internationally?
A: Yep! Though shipping prices will be different than domestic orders. We are not in control of how much shipping companies charge.
Q: Do the cat ear speakers actually work?
A: Yes, the speakers are fully functional so you can switch between listening
