For blending with, creates smooth and rough various textures. These are smallish (100-150px) for detail blending but you can resize/adjust for blending larger areas.
How to use:

Option1. Drag and drop .tpl file into PS and voila, your smudge tool is set. Alternative way of loading .tpl is inside the .zip pack.
Option2. In case the above method doesn't work for you, load .abr file normally like any brush, and just select them for smudge tool. It will also work for mixer brush, dodge, burn, etc.

TIP: Smudge tool can be set for following sampling:
a) (default) current layer - will smudge and blend contents of currently active layer
b) (tick) all layers - will smudge and blend contents of active layer with all visible layers above and below

Basic Brushes

I've been asked many times from notes about the brushes that I use as well as request for .abr/.tpl file. So here they are . ^^
They are basic ones that I mostly use on my work, so I hope you enjoy using it.

How to put the .abr /.tpl (brush file) to Photoshop

> Extract from .zip > there are .abr and .tpl files

For .abr ( Normal brush present ) > At the top right of [Brush Present] window >> Present Manager >> Load brushes (.abr) file

For .tpl ( As a tool present) > At the top right of [Tool Present] window >> Load Tool Presents (.tpl) file

* Please save the current brushes and tools first in case you don't like my brushes ^_^

-- If you have any question or it doesn't work right please feel free to ask me! Also let me know your if you like it or not :)

Happy New Year 2013 !

I actually organized these brush set today that I have made them all since a few months ago ( I think I kept adjusting them about the time I made the chalk one) Honestly, I wanted to share these before, but...... my tablet disliked me so he committed suicide and left me alone with pencil and paper lol. Anyway I decided to share them to you now. ^^ I hope you like them too.

Also I have done all traditional commissions and I will post them soon as well!!!

Happy Holiday to you !
I hope you enjoy celebration ! ^_^
Have fun and eat alots <3

PS. Please tell me if you have tried the brushes, let me know if you like them
( ^____________^)
( Especially, "Real Pencil"/ "Lovely Bristle"/ " Paint II"/ "Water Colour"/"Brush easy blend" )

Updated information [ How to use ? / For Paint tool Sai ?]

1. How to use (save your current brushes first) : At the top right of [Brush Present] window >> Present Manager >> Load or append brushes (.abr) file

2. Can use only for Adobe Photoshop
I plan to make Sai brushes like these in the future when I have time. Please look forward to it :)

Hello everyone!!

Please read

Alright there are many requested notes asking me many questions. I will explain them all here as well!

Which brushes are the best to use?
No, there is no best brushes. It's all depending on the each person.
First of all, I want to suggest that brushes are not the most important part for painting, but your practicing and hard working will make you paint better! ( I mean yes they are helpful when we use for specific things, and we feel comfortable to use them, so we feel enjoy painting. ) However, the best brushes for you are the ones that make you want to continue painting with them.
As long as you try and you like them!

From the brushes that I've shared, I used them all in their own specific ways. [ Basic Painting Brushes ] are what I used mostly before, and [ Winter 2012 brushes ] I like to use them for sketches and painterly style more.

I also still try to create new ones to see if I will like them even more! and yes I have found that [ Wet edge option ] and [ Color dynamic option ] can be useful to improve the brushes.
You will find that the new brushes set that I've made are included some options. ( You can download and try them from "Download" >>> ^^ )

What you need to know

* From the image above, the names are just for fancy and separate them from others! lol Every brush can be used for anything and it depends on you!

* For Photoshop only! ( Recommend for CS 5 and above, but if you have older versions please try them and I think they work fine )

* I don't need credit for this. I love brushes! and like to try making new ones. Please feel free to use.

Finally, I love to collect brushes from other artists and tried them all. I learnt them to see the differences and I really enjoy using them. Their brushes are amazing and I recommend you to try them all. ^^= Of course, they are amazing artists and thank you so much for sharing them to us all!

My brush set. I only use a small selection of brushes 99% of the time. I have a ton more brushes, but they are specific custom brushes, rarely used. :)

Here are links to several excellent artists' brush sets.

Jonas DeRo : [link]
Leventep : [link] (doesn't seem to be working for me, but you guys can give it a try)
Algenpfleger : [link]
Ditlev : [link] and [link]

For the beginner artist, though brushes are not everything, they do in a way affect your style of painting. It's helpful to play around with a range of brushes and find what you like.

It's also the first video where I actually speak, so pardon my bad/weird pronunciation and accent and my rambling. (esp. in the 2nd vid!)

Basically, convert your image to greyscale to check if you've got enough shadows and highlights to make the image pop.
Don't let complementary colors (colors opposite each other on the color wheel) trick your eyes! :)

Converting to greyscale also helps by taking out the distracting colors and helps you see if you've got the lighting and focus right. If it looks ok in greyscale, it will look ok in color.

Though using complementary colors do help make your character pop, so you can consider using this also.

Hi-res brushes (except 1st one that works better on low-res hair drawings) that should work in every Photoshop CS version and in PS 7.0. To get them click download button on the right side of this description.

Terms of usage
Sharing and Crediting:

:bulletred: This brush pack is completly FREE to use. Which means, these brushes itself CAN'T be sold as a whole pack, or as a part of another pack.

:bulletred: You can share this pack on other sites, provided you will not claim them as your own, and attach the credits/link to original source.

:bulletred: You can modify brushes and/or share them with other packs online, provided there's credit to the original pack, and provided that you'll also publish the modified/mixed pack as a FREE to use.(of course don't mix these brushes with brushes from commercial, non-free packs, to cancel their terms of usage or something like that, it won't work like that.)

This is especially important as I really want these brushes to be avaiable for fun, so please respect dem rules :)

You of course can modify this pack to be usefull for another softwares like GIMP, since I'm not able to do that- I don't know this software enough. Of course credit and link to original required and all that stuff ;)

Working with the brushes:

:bulletred: You can sell works made by these brushes, or use them for private/educational purposes, it's completly up to you.

:bulletblue: Crediting me under your work for using brushes is nice but only optional :)

It's a brush pack, that 15-6 years old me made out of various watercolour and pencil stains from my sketches. So, due to them being so old, I think they should work even with the PS 7.0. I just arranged them, cleaned up and over-saved the .abr file in PS CS5, but there's nothing, that shouldn't work in older versions I guess. They are simple, since I made them at the beggining of my digital painting adventure...
I highly recommend messing with opacity flow set to pen pressure or shape dynamics  Some of the brushes have it, some don't, also, decreasing spacing in shape dynamics to about 8-9 from normal 25 gives more fluent stroke in some cases...
so please, experiment!
These brushes are in quite raw form, because I wanted to keep them like they were originally (despite some noob mistakes XD)

Enjoy, I hope? :)

Edit: Thank you guys and girls so, so much. You're incredible: I would never expect such warm welcome for this upload. And seriously, again, thank you so much.

Here are my brushes. The top half are just variants of basic brushes, the
bottom half were made from ink blots that I scanned.

I'll be doing a livestream tutorial tomorrow night (Tuesday) at 7:00 PM EST,
showing how I use these brushes. I'll also try to demonstrate how to make
things look "painterly" without looking messy. Or at least, that's what I'm
going to TRY to do. We'll see how well it goes.

Terms of Use:
If you want these brushes... take them. You don't have to pay me, you don't
have to credit me, you don't even have to thank me. I made them in about
five minutes, and I hate when people try to charge for things like this.

Here's my live stream page: [link]

A tip: don't press too hard when using these, they work best if you draw softly.

#2 is best used for clouds and fluff, while #3 and #5 are great for smoothing!

#1 is my everything brush, I use it for coloring, texturing, smoothing, lines, etc.

After so many people requested it, I finally found the time to go through my gigantic pile of brushes and clean them from duplicates and presets I've never really used. The set is built on brushes found all over the internet. You may or not find in it brushes made by ~DanHowardArt, `DanLuVisiArt, *CoyoteMange, *algenpfleger and many many more. I picked and chose what I liked from them and that's how this big-ass set came to life.

The set contains 174 brushes that I use on an everyday basis. For your convenience it's divided into 9 categories:

  • Basic - brushes I use the most. Most of my paintings are made using those particular brushes and often I use only those alone. Brushes from the following categories are just an addition and are used depending on the subject and stylization I work in.
  • Clouds - a few dynamic brushes to paint skies, mist and smoke.
  • Rock - perfect for rocks, ground and other rough surfaces.
  • Water - splashes and brushes with wet edges - best if used with light paint on dark surfaces.
  • Hair & Feathers - Well, ain't I a douchebag. I completely forgot to check the release document for most of the fur and feather brushes and now had to remove them from the set. To download the brushes I use for painting fur, feathers and scales, please visit this brush set --> [link] made by *CoyoteMange
  • Plants - a very big set of dynamic brushes for painting foliage. Most of them are hand-painted giving pictures a very nice and unified look.
  • Details - all sorts of little things that add to the final image - seams, light effects, laces and trinkets.
  • Textures - yummy grunge and garbage that will make those flat surfaces look interesting. Scratches, wrinkles, rust, pores, stains - all you'll ever need.
  • Smudge - special brushes for blending. They give very interesting blur and displacement effects.

Why lazy? Because there are plenty of brushes that make your life easier.

The set works best with Photoshop CS5 and CS6. It should work with versions from 2 to 4 too but some of the brushes might not give the same effects.

Feel free to download and pick whatever you like. Have fun!

Painting fire, slimes and wounds in one go - an introduction to brush blending modes in Photoshop.
Recently the first page of dA filled with all sorts of step-by-step tutorials as to how paint THINGS. No one ever tries to explain how to paint these things easier. So here I am showing you how to make it simple. As always try to experiment - change brushes, colours, blending modes and try out new stuff. Have fun!

You will find the brushes I use here:

Done and done!
It took a while but I'm finally done with the 100 texture studies challenge and I'm really happy about it. Usually it's done with spheres but I figured out it'd be more difficult and challenging if done on cubes.... and it was. Some of those were tiny nightmares to paint. All of them were made with brushes from my lazy brush set.

painting textures - fur - video by tanathepainting textures - wood - video by tanathepainting textures - gems by tanathepainting textures - flesh - video by tanathe

I'd be very grateful if you tried to name all of the 100 textures. I'd like to check if I managed to convey all of the materials and if people recognize them the way I planned to. If it's not the case then I still got a lot of work to do!
The first 5 people to properly recognize at least 95 out of 100 blocks were: ~Filougon, ~Palibyte, ~finiens, *PrinzNero and ~Shanyume

I encourage you to make your own texture studies. It's a great exercise to make your paintings more realistic. Remember though not to copy other people's studies! Instead of practicing you might end up repeating and even exaggerating their mistakes. Look for tips and solutions in other artists' works but reference real life objects and photos.
