In a Little Girl's MindThere sits the girl with the things in her eyes
Monsters, destruction, and sweet butterflies
Hopscotch and daisies, surrounded by screams
Beautiful dresses now torn at the seams
Crayons and paintbrushes, villains and grins
Young, gladsome innocence, hatred and sins
Little red houses on roads left to fade
Gorgeous moonlight shining off of the blade
Blood pouring out as she cries her own name
Knowing she's forced to take each bit of blame
She could have stopped it and left it behind
All of these things in her troubled young mind
She could have saved them if she dared to try
Rather, though, she left herself there to die.
Now, others watch as she sits on the ground
Keeping their distance and letting her drown
In her own worries and things she won't tell
Waiting for her mind to kill her as well…

I was at the rich people mall in pleasanton (they had freaking touch screen soda machines. what the hell.) when my mother was approached by another lady from "Barbizon" gushing about how gorgeous I am, and how I can be a model. It’s easy to think of art in terms of what is instantly pleasing to the eye, artworks which
evoke a feeling of joy and hopefulness and blissful peacefulness or ecstatic exultation.
This is the consideration of art as something that helps propel us forward through life – to out future great
deeds, our career victories, or dreams of coming big events. But there is a peak to every life. At some point all
people, and all places, and even all ideas have to begin the inevitable decline that is the other balancing half of a lifetime.

Sometimes in youth we play crazy mind games. One gruesome game was trying to think of the worst way to die. Or even better, the "which would you choose" version of the same conceit. Another was what would be the worst torture to endure. If there is one international touchstone that best captures youthful fears and wonders in speculation of what lies beyond the veil of death and awaits as possible punishment for our sins, it must be - to the few who have actually read it to the millions who "know" it – "Dante's Inferno." Who does not shiver at the thought of being lost somewhere in the "Nine Rings of Hell?"

I draw for HOURS a day, even if it's just doodling. And someone asked me, "Is that really true? If you practice, you'll get better?"

Parody vs Pastiche and other Humorous ExamplesJust for fun I thought I'd do a rundown of the most common forms of humor, their definitions, and examples. This is not a complete list by any means, but they are a list of many forms of humor and literature discourse which often get confused of mixed up.Parody vs Pastiche and other Humorous Examples in Personal More Like This
An imitative work created to mock, comment on or trivialize an original work, its subject, author, style, or some other target, by means of satiric or ironic imitation.
Example: The movie "Airplane" is a parody of 1970's disaster movies. Many of Weird Al's music videos are parodies of other more famous music videos.
A work of visual art, literature, or music that imitates the style or character of the work of one or more other artists. Unlike parody, pastiche celebrates, rather than mocks, the work it imitates.
Example: The movie "Super 8" is a pastiche of 1980's adventure films, specifically imitating the style of Stephen Spielberg's early career,
Objectification of MenAfter reading through the comments on my last journal about Tropes Vs Women in Gaming Part 2 I noticed a lot of people are angry we're even talking about sexism because (as they put it) "men are ALSO sexualized and objectified in gaming so women shouldn't complain that they are too."Objectification of Men in Personal More Like This
And while that's a nice thought that sounds logical at first... any causal observer to gaming and most media today will be able to recognize that the two sides are not equal enough to make that sort of comparison. Here's the difference as I see it: Men are objectified and sexualized, yes, but it's not done for women. It's done for men. The objectification of men in gaming and other media is a self image fantasy FOR men. In other words, both the objectification of men and women are done for the benefit of men.
Not only that but again a casual observer will note that the standards of "beauty" are not at all equal on both sides. Female heros are all designed to be attractive, sexy, thin, sensual, pure,
Jimquisition, Wii-U Hate, and Artistic TaboosJimquisition on the Phil Fish Hate and Thick Skin in GeneralJimquisition, Wii-U Hate, and Artistic Taboos in Personal More Like This
I really appreciated this week's Jimquisition episode because it highlighted a mentality that I, myself, have dealt with. The whole concept that "you need a thick skin" to "deal with criticism" online and that you, as a creator, are solely responsible when you finally snap and "break" and say or do something stupid after years of constant pounding and hate lobbed at you. I've been in that situation, many times, and it's nice to hear from another creator that this is a thing not isolated to myself, and more importantly for standing up for the creator's side.
If you'd like to watch the video you can do so here: http://www.escapistmagazine.com/videos/view/jimquisition/7831-Go-Fish?utm_source=latest&utm_medium=index_carousel&utm_campaign=all I think it presents a nice counterpoint to the usual "Phil Fish is just an asshole" remarks you frequently see online in response to the controversy surrounding him
What's Wrong With Praise? So this is another one of those artistic taboos we're never suppose to talk about, apparently. The idea of giving back positive feedback to an artist. It's seen as "coddling" as "babying" as "inflating the ego" and has such intense negative associations. It seems to be generally accepted that the only way to critique someone's work is to point out ONLY the negative parts. Any attempt to point out anything positive or something you liked about the work is seen as being unhelpful towards the artist's growth. What's Wrong With Praise? in Personal More Like This
And frankly I think that's a bunch of hogwash.
Speaking from my own experience, I rarely ever get anything positive said about my work in a constructive way. I might get a lot of "good jobs" or people talking happily about my comics because they made them laugh, but I rarely if ever get any comments that go into detail explaining WHY I did something right. On the flip side, the amount of negative criticism and nitpicking is almost hilariously rampant, not just on my artwork but on th
Proving your Geek CreedNerds all share a unified experience of being socially ostracized from the rest of other so-called "normal" societal groups. The reasons may vary (not being good at sports, liking a certain sci-fi/fantasy TV show, etc), but the fact that we all were picked upon and marginalized during our most formable years is a major part of the nerd/geek identity. But in recent years nerd culture stopped being it's own niche thing, and has started to seep into mainstream culture. Making nerd culture more accessible has naturally brought with it a new group of people and fans into our sphere... and not everyone is happy about this development.Proving your Geek Creed in Personal More Like This
Personally I think it's great that nerd culture has become so widely accepted lately. I can freely have a discussion about my favorite DC or Marvel superheros in public without getting looks of disgust or incredulity because EVERYONE loves Batman and The Avengers. And if I make an obscure joke about Doctor Who, there's a LOT of people who will get it now. But l
Censoring the InternetA few weeks ago I made mention of feminist Anita Sarkeesian who started a kickstarter for a web series called "Tropes Vs Women" specifically centered around how women are portrayed in video games.Censoring the Internet in Personal More Like This
Despite the fact that kickstarters are payed for by people who've made the decision they want to contribute their money to the project, Anita came under attack from gamers for "scamming" audiences when her fund far exceeded the target goal. Just this past week it's come out that a 25 year old man from Sault Ste Marie, Ontario, Canada, created a video game where the object is to punch the crap out of Anita. Wounds, bruises, and blood gush out the more you beat her up in this virtual game, and it's drawn some widespread attention.
Whether you agree with her viewpoint is not the issue, it's the fact that this retaliation is just "wrong" on so many levels. Do these people realize that what they're doing is shooting themselves in the foot? Making a video game where you beat up someone who's making
Nintendo STEALS Money!Since this has been going around lately, I should probably give my two cents. Basically what it amounts to is that Nintendo has filed Content ID info of their games with YouTube. What this means is that if you upload gameplay video of a Nintendo game, YouTube will automatically monetize that video, put ads on it, a link to where to buy the game, and take the money generated from that video and give it directly to Nintendo. People who do "let's play" videos are, naturally, pissed off because they want to be earning money off their videos, so they're calling Nintendo "thieves" for doing this.Nintendo STEALS Money! in Personal More Like This
I can see both sides to the story. I can see Nintendo as a corporation wanting to exercise control over their properties. On the other hand, "let's play" videos can often help new gamers find games they otherwise wouldn't have tried.
But here's the thing: Nintendo isn't the first company do this. Both Microsoft and Ubisoft do it already. YouTube has also had a long history of having music videos and
'Don't Feed the Trolls' needs to die.I wish I was joking, but another bout of sexual harassment against women creeped up this week (only days after the Might No. 9 fiasco). This time in the form of an indi video game a woman is trying to get green-lit to Steam. The game is about depression and is just suppose to help people understand what it’s like living with it, and for this “grievous” action she’s been the target of harassment campaigns. She’s received harassing phone calls, death threats, her personal information and addresses posted for everyone to see. She’s had to change her phone number to stop the harassment, and even pulled the game originally to try and calm this crap down.'Don't Feed the Trolls' needs to die. in Personal More Like This
Bravely, she’s decided to post it anyway and is trying desperately to showcase how awful, hurtful, and disgusting our gaming community can be when we stay silent.
You can “justify” your reasons for hating her. You can convince yourself that sending her harassment and hate messages is for
I've got a theory...I keep getting asked why I keep focusing so much on women's rights in comics and what-not. http://syacartoonist.com/seriously-stop-it I'm honestly not sure why it's suddenly struck me to start talking about this stuff so much, but I have a theory...I've got a theory... in Personal More Like This
The reason these issues with women in comics and gaming and nerd culture in general is because of inclusivity and broadening demographics. Over a decade ago, nerd culture was still very much male dominated and exclusive. But over the years women have been getting into comics and gaming and everything else geek related much more so. I mean... don't get me wrong, they were ALWAYS there to being with... but for whatever reason it just started to become more socially acceptable to admit that you were a woman and a geek/gamer.
But the problem is that most of nerd culture and gaming are doing things same-old-same-old like they've always been doing things. They produce content exclusively for male audiences and don't understand why women are takin
Mature themes in American AnimationWhen I first discovered Anime, my mind was blown. Here were Japanese animations being made which told adult stories with sex, violence, and all sorts of things I'd never seen before done in American films. As a teenager the constant pandering to children and the reluctance to accept more mature themes and ideas in American animated films pissed me off. Why can't american cartoons be taken more seriously and have stuff for adults too outside of South Park and The Simpsons?Mature themes in American Animation in Personal More Like This
In 1998 Stephen Spielberg tried to change that. After having a successful run of kids cartoons (Tiny Toons, Animaniacs, Pink and the Brain, etc), he took it a step further by giving us a PRIME TIME cartoon series aimed at adults. It was called "Invasion America." It was a sci-fi epic, featured a slew of big name actors including Leonard Nimoy, and featured more adult oriented themes such as sex, violence, and swearing!
It sucked and was a resounding failure.
The epic plot they were trying to weave would never be compl

Last Sunday I had a Skype meeting with Brendan Julian and Richard Johnston - the voices of Louis and James respectively from my upcoming animation - to discuss the finer points of Honour Amongst Thieves. As promised, I managed to record it and so without further ado, I present to you:
Honour Amongst Thieves
I was delighted to see the two of them got along so well, because their character interaction promises to be great this way. Unfortunately, Santiago's VA was unable to make it due to timezones, but perhaps sometime in future we'll be able to repeat this again plus one Spaniard!
Shisha Pipes at Three A.M. ...There's nothing quite like sitting back on pillows in a dim room with painted murals and UV lights discussing the problems of the world and how we can change the future for the better through the aromatic smoke of several shisha pipes with complete strangers. I feel like I can change the world. Maybe not in big ways, but in small, baby steps. I want to finish this animation, I want to get my message out. I want to make a graphic novel that underlines current issues through the eyes of my characters; I want to make a difference. I feel justified in knowing I'm not the only one who thinks like this.
I want to change the world.
... Damn, this sounded so much better in my head at 3a.m. in the cafe toilets when I thought of it.

I am so flattered that people like my characters enough to want to cosplay them, especially when they do such a bang-up job of it. I will not be there, because I live all the way on the other side of the world in Singapore, but anyone over there do say hi! They're friendly people!
Working @ UbisoftNot even kidding, though my contract is only for two months so far. I was offered a unique opportunity to work alongside experts in the industry, and was recruited for concept art, illustration, and storyboarding, bouncing around to see where I might fit with my toony style. It's only been day one so far, but I'm working right alongside professionals and get to learn from them first-hand. Pretty sure I'm still reeling. Obviously I can't tell you what we're working on due to confidentiality agreements, but it's pretty cool to see all the behind-the-scenes action my own self.Working @ Ubisoft in Personal More Like This
Unfortunately, this does mean a significant stall in my (slow) progress on HAT, my animation-to-be. While working at LASALLE I literally spent every minute animating if I wasn't busy assisting teachers; now the only time I'll have to work on it will be when I get home, and on the weekends. It's sound-effect-less, music-less, and not cleaned up at all, but I will be uploading each scene as I complete them so that the voice actors can see how their work is coming together. Perhaps it's also interesting for people interested in some of the processes of animation, as well.

Watch it. Seriously.
I just got back from the cinemas, where I caught Warm Bodies with my bestie from LASALLE. I know what you're thinking, that the movie didn't look that great. Yet another zombie movie amongst the throngs of supernatural the media flings at us, yet another teenage romance to appeal to every young adult with a pulse. And I will be the first to admit that when I first heard the outline of the story - a cute young man who just happens to be undead falls in love with a young girl at first sight - I was skeptical. I assumed it would become a rehash of Twilight, and I just got over the nausea of seeing those posters cluttering all the billboards.
However, after trawling through the trailers and finding them appealing and funny, I decided that the movie was worth a shot. It advertises itself as a quirky, humorous take on zombies, throwing in a mix of teenage romance
About My School?I frequently get questions about LASALLE College of the Arts, where I study. Unfortunately I don't have time to go into tremendous detail when answering them, as much as I'd like to explain more what it's like. Okay, no, on a more serious note: I've just had to re-draw the last two days' worth of frames and in-betweens for Louis because I realized I'd been drawing him "wrong".
Throughout Louis's character progress he's undergone several changes, most based on my own personal decisions, but many were also due to feedback from you guys here on DA, and I realise now that the "Louis is too skinny I don't like it" comments got to me more than they should have.
What these people don't realize is that Louis is ridiculously tall and skinny on purpose: he's a cartoon. He's not meant to be realistic, he's meant to be an exaggeration of the flamboyant gay stereotype, the skinny French stereotype, and his design reflects his wiles and cunning when it comes to out-witting his opponents. Simon looked up from the bowl of cereal he was fixing himself and grinned. "Good morning, yourself. Just fixing some breakfast before we head to town—no other food here and I'm half starved."
"Good luck with that," said Holly, regarding the pile of bran flakes that sat inside the bowl. "There's no milk left."
"There's no more milk. Ran out of it last night and I didn't have time to make it to the grocery store."
"But I already poured my cereal!" said Simon with distress.
"That's unfortunate," replied Holly. She then watched with perplexity as her temporary flat-mate set the bowl on the counter, walked over to his cot and collapsed into the sheets. "Simon, what are you doing?" she asked.
Simon threw an arm over his face, covering his eyes with the crook of his elbow. "All that trouble for nothing," he moaned. "What is this? What is my life?!"
"This is a cruel world." The young man rolled onto his stomach, dragging the covers with him until he
drooping flowers scene re-write When I arrived home, I immediately headed for my room, still torn between apologizing to Benjamin and clutching my pride; though ruffled about the London business, I felt dreadfully selfish at the same time: he was going to be saved, and here I was kicking and screaming about his not telling me. However, I couldn't finish this little pensée of mine because I ran straight into a familiar form in the upstairs hallway.drooping flowers scene re-write in Personal More Like This
Benjamin stumbled backwards, the drooping stems of a few milkvetch flowers and Forget-Me-Not's in his hand. His cheeks flushed.
"Where did you get those?" was the only reply I could manage.
"I—I asked Hanna…er…to get them from the meadow this morning…I wanted to—to apologise," stuttered Benjamin.
"Because I didn't tell you about London and I was rude to you and I feel awful for it. Honestly, I do. I'm sorry: I was being i

Klaus : more than just a pretty boySo, I've always gotten a very positive response from readers and watchers whenever Klaus is mentioned, but for those who have not read my book and especially my final draft, I don't feel like you know him well enough. So I've decided to share a few new Klaus scenes that I've written recently to develop his character more.Klaus : more than just a pretty boy in Personal More Like This
around Chapter 8 at Edith's dinner party in late June
"Would you care to accompany me to the veranda for a cigarette?" he asked. "There's one on the second floor, and it's getting a bit stuffy in here."
I agreed, and soon we were standing out on the lanai, elbows leaning upon the cool iron, the brisk summer wind rustling the ivy that crawled up the side of the railing. Klaus pulled a pack of cigarettes from his waistcoat pocket along with a lighter. Imprinted in the copper were the letters K&K, and suddenly I wanted to ask him what had happened the other day—what Heinrich had said about choosing the Gypsy over him. I didn't have time to ask though, because K
saul sceneDespite this, it was a nice affair: the family was overjoyed to have Saul with us and it was the first time I had dined anywhere else besides my room, which pleased Adele to no end. It was wonderful…until I walked Saul to the front gate.saul scene in Personal More Like This
"Why?" I asked him as I watched his crutch kick up dust into the warm night air.
"Why do you get that look in your eye when you speak to Daniel? Has he offended you in some way?"
Saul bit his lip, but didn't respond.
"It isn't him, is it? It's Benjamin. You dislike him because of his brother. Why do you hate Benjamin? He has done nothing wrong!"
"Sara, don't you understand that he did this to you?" said Saul, his voice stretched. "I know he was a nice boy and that you loved him, but you've turned him into a saint in your min. You've canonized him, and you don't realize that if it weren't for him, none of this would have happened to you!"
"It is not his fault that he was persecuted for something so out of his control," I spat, sudden anger s

The Meaning of 'No' and Where to Go From ThereFor my AP Language and Composition class, we were supposed to write an essay on a controversial topic. I chose Rape Culture. The Meaning of 'No' and Where to Go From There in Personal More Like This
An important line that seems to be blurred when it comes to sexual advances and the act of sex itself is the idea of "when does no mean no". If a woman is blackout drunk yet still asks for sex, even though she might not remember it in the morning, surely it isn't against her will? Or if a girlfriend says no, maybe she's just playing hard to get, right? Wrong. No matter the innuendos and no matter the situation, 'no' does in fact mean 'no'. Regardless of how drunk the person is or what they are wearing, there is never an excuse for rape or an 'invitation' for sexual assault. But the question is where did this mindset begin and why is it acted upon so often and without reproof?
The catalyst and the enabler of rape is much more complex than just a man's lust: the crux of the issue lies in the idea of "Rape Culture". Rape culture is a society in which people of all a

This is why I keep saying that if you really want to see more art from me, you can look through my art tag on tumblr. There, I post more art because it's like a mass heap of doodles and sketches with occasional... attractive ones. *shot* But seriously, I don't post here because I wouldn't want to spam your inboxes with small doodles, unless I have them collaborated into a dump, such as my Summer School Doodle Dump.
Whatever I post here on deviantart should start becoming more serious art. That's what I aim for, seeing that this is an art website. Plus it's a bit of a hassle to post just a sketch when it's worth the trouble to post something I worked my butt off on.
So yes, what I'm aiming to say here is to expect more serious artwork from me on this website! I just hope that I actually do draw lik
An Insight on the Mystery RoomSalutations fellow Professor Layton fans what a surprise the Layton fan in me is not deadAn Insight on the Mystery Room in Personal More Like This
OKAY so this journal isn't exactly about our beloved Professor, but more about the Prof.
In other words, Layton Brothers: Mystery Room!
I got the game as soon as it was released for the iOS, and I played it until midnight because it was just that good. I'm not kidding, Level-5 has made an amazing statement with their new game! See here, Mystery Room isn't exactly like the old Layton games. This one focuses more on crime solving, so there aren't any puzzles to play. But don't worry, the gameplay makes up for it.
I absolutely love how Level-5 arranged the story and invented the quirky characters. It really puts you at the edge of your seat. And, speaking of characters, Mystery Room features two new significant characters to us: Inspector Alfendi Layton and Detective Constable Lucy Baker.
Let me tell you right now, Lucy is like an exact mix of

Happy Thanksgiving!Hello! I hope you all are having a wonderful Thanksgiving!Happy Thanksgiving! in Personal More Like This
There are so many things I could name off for the entire "giving thanks" event, and really it would seem endless. Even if I were to, it would probably be cliche, as us people are very much thankful for very similar things.
I suppose I should still do so!
I am thankful for:
My abilities, that which I've managed to acquire throughout my years. I myself find it impressive that, although I must admit that I may not be the best, I am still proud in what I am able to do.
My accomplishments, which I've somehow done in a way that I've forgotten and don't bother remembering, though I am still proud of too.
My privileges, as I fully know that not everyone will have same privileges as I do, and with that I am grateful for what I am able to do.
My physical materials, alongside with the one above: not everyone has the same things I do, so again I

Okay, but now that I am awake, I have so much to share to you all!
The first airplane ride was kind of uncomfortable. I got no sleep whatsoever. Oh, and the weather at D.C. too! It was extremely humid and hot, which didn't work out for whenever we had to walk long distances, or had to sing outside under the blazing sun. But I really didn't mind all that, because everything else made up for it.
We toured to many places, them including the Capitol Building, Arlington National Cemetery (witnessed the guarding of the Unknown Soldier), Jefferson Memorial, American History Museum (saw the original Star-Spangled Banner), Natural History Museum, White House (and sang for it), World War II Memorial, Martin Luther King Jr. Memorial, John F. Kennedy Memorial, Franklin D. Roosevelt Memorial, Lincoln Memorial, National Archives (saw the original drafts of the Declaration

1. What Nintendo games were a part of your childhood?
Let me try to remember...
My real childhood Nintendo game would have to be on the Gameboy, to which was Donkey Kong Country 2. I used take that game everywhere with my six-year-old me.
Though the Nintendo game that left the biggest impact on me was Super Mario Galaxy. It was the foundation of my

Alright, so! I'm heading back, as you can see. I had such a great 2.5 days here in Florida! I probably didn't explain to you, but the vacation was because of a wedding of one of our relatives, and it was such a beautiful wedding indeed. We were all dressed nicely and whatnot, and had some fun the day before with my younger relatives. It was just great~ The speeches in the reception were really cute too. I haven't been to a wedding since I was much younger, and now I'm very happy to witness one again now that I'm older. The couple looked really happy, and it made me smile~ Everything was wonderful
other than the fact that my mom got drunk and passed out on the bed when we got to the hotel.
Basically, I wish I didn't have to leave so early. My family and relatives are going to a cruise afterwards the
