Another sketch dump for Red Dwarf. Still love this show to death. And, just in case it's unclear, at the beginning of Series III it says that Jim and Bexley grow to age 18 in three days- so a little salute to their rapid aging in the top center.
I recently heard, you could actually purchase 'Red Dwarf' curries at one point in Japan, and there may even have been a themed restaurant based on the show, too! I haven't been able to find any pics, so I made one instead.
GAWD this is SO old... LOL, look, I have 2 sigstamps on it. I drew this a couple years ago, inked it, and just kinda forgot about it. For those who don't know, I LOVE the British sci-fi sitcom Red Dwarf. My Dad got me into it when I was younger, probably around 15 and I've been obsessed ever since. Yes, I am pumped about the new Series X they're making; no, I wasn't a fan of Back to Earth because of all the plot holes; Yes, I still own it anyway because, SMEG, it's Red Dwarf, dammit! It's a clever show, really, if you watch from Series 1 to 8. (My fave series are 3 and 4, in case you're wondering.) My favourite character in the series is the hologram, Arnold Rimmer, with the last human Dave Lister being a close second. The dynamic between these two characters in particular is SO friggin' hilarious that you can't help but literally laugh out loud (I personally thought it was a step BACKWARDS taking Rimmer out of the series in 7... Sorry Kochanski, but REALLY, you don't hold a candle AT ALL to Rimmer ).
Anyway, so I recently got the bug to watch the entire series again, and I dug up this picture and decided to finish it. It's not the best at all, really, but I love Rimsy so much that I just had to finish it. And I cheated with Lister's cigarette, 'cause I suck Heh.
If you've never seen the series Red Dwarf, I really do urge you to check it out. Each series is only 6 episodes long and is really quite witty and clever in the writing (though growing up on BritComs, I find the humour much better than American sitcoms), and it parodies Star Trek to the point it doesn't hide it, really. Even Patrick GODDAMNED Stewart makes an appearance on the DVDs in the special features. THAT'S BADDASS. XD Hee hee. It was done in the early 80's so if you like cheesy effects, AW, LOVE IT XD.
And I will FOREVER love Rimmer's unmanageable hair XD Hee hee. Though I always draw it too floofy. Heh.
Despite its age, it's a cute pic. I these two so much.
So FINALLY a few months ago I got around to getting my copy of Red Dwarf X, which, IMHO, is a really good season of the show. The dynamic of the characters is still great after all these years.
For some inane reason, I wanted to draw a "buddies" pic of my fave chars from the show, Rimmer and Lister (and I may have actually just really wanted to draw a pic of Rimsy in his RDX uniform ). See, I think, deep down, Rimmer and Lister really are kinda reluctant best friends... 'Cause really, you do see on occasion Lister does care about Rimmer's well being despite him being an insufferable prat (and you do see Rimmer does NOT sit well with the idea of being alone for all eternity without some sort of human interaction.)... I like to think that Rimmer takes his job as 'keeping Lister sane' very seriously. I dunno. I look too much into the psyches of characters. I love analyzing them. That and BroTP's make my heart dance. I ESPECIALLY loved the last eppy of X, because Rimsy just says, welp, fuck it, I really am a fuck up too!. That right there sealed the deal, made Rimmer acknowledging the crew as his friends set in stone.
Anyway, so I wanted to draw my fave Boys from the Dwarf, and I did up a quick doodle. I'm quite pleased with the outcome I think I was trying for a semi-new style, but it never happened. I like my Rimsy in this one. Little lanky, but he turned out well.
All my poses are so generic, sorry all. And I kind of rushed on the cleanup of this one, sorry... I got home late and kind of did a slap job on it. I wanted to add a bit more sheen to the uniform, but didn't have time. Hope you guys like it anyway
YAY! More Red Dwarf bust illustrations! Third on the sheet is the last human alive, Dave Lister, self-proclaimed space-bum. Lister has always cracked me up, and poor Dave always gets into rather precarious situations. The dynamic he has with the ship's smeghead, Rimmer, is byfar the BEST THING in the entire series, and I was sad when Rimmer left for a season. Here's hoping Series X is going back to the roots of the series
