I've always been very intrigued with all the crazy glitch Pokemon from Red, Blue, and Yellow. I find them very interesting, yet rather eerie for some reason. xDD
So one day in class I was thinking about what it might be like to encounter one of these glitch Pokemon if I were to live in the world of Pokemon. So, I drew Pikachu with the most well known glitch Pokemon, MissingNo. I think almost everyone knows who MissingNo is. It has 4 or 5 forms, I think. This here is it's Normal form.
I was originally thinking about combining it's Normal form with it's Yellow form for aesthetic purposes, but this looked better. :3
Surprisingly, this is my first time officially drawing Pikachu. xD
Although its species was officially discovered years ago, this Pokémon remained a mystery. Using brand new technology, the Mysterio Scope finally allows its true form to be revealed. The usual garbled appearance of Missingno. is caused by a powerful psychogenic shield which distorts the minds of viewers. This shield also has detrimental effects on electronics including storage PCs and Pokédexes, as a result its true height and weight are still unknown. While this species is among the highest ranking in its attack stat, its defenses are abysmal, explaining the need for such a powerful shield.
This doesn't feel finished yet, but I'm not sure what else I should do with it... I may edit it more later if I figure it out. The grass is especially bothering me but I really don't know how to fix it. I'd also like to add more details since the setting still seems a bit plain, but I dunno if that'd be overkill. Edit: I've tweaked a lot of stuff - Ditto's lighting and head bumps, water texture, grass shading, and rock colors.
Anyway, Ditto has been my favorite Pokémon ever since I first played Blue. It's just so damn cute and squishy and unique! Most attempts at making it realistic seem to base it off an amoeba - that really doesn't make sense to me, besides being impractical, its dex entries specifically state that it's multicellular.
I imagine instead that it'd be more like a mollusk, sort of a cross between a gastropod and a cephalopod. It can change its color, texture, shape, and size at will - like an octopus, but more advanced. They're terrestrial but often found near water like most slugs and snails, though I imagine that they're not slimy (just squishy and rather smooth.)
Also, like many gastropods, Ditto is obviously a hermaphrodite species. The idea of Pokémon genetics breaks my brain though so I won't speculate on their ability to hybridize with everything under the sun.
I absolutely love Missingno., despite having avoided it for my childhood (my brother lost everything when he caught it...), so I had to do this! Once I had created the "original" Missingno., I thought "Why not do the others too?". This was created in my single player map, Pallet Town, before Creative mode was introduced.
I actually unpacked my laptop and tablet specifically to draw this for the contest. I couldn't wait until I moved...
My favorite novelty has got to be MissingNo. Not only can it change into a ghost, skeletal Aerodactyl, and a skeletal Kabutops, but it's a friggin' block of... pixels. How, exactly, can the block form even exist in a three dimensional plane?
It just makes it awesome.
That, and the fact the the colors almost hurts your eyes.
Anyways, these are three of the Pokemon I actually have on GPX+. The MissingNo, BWaR: [link] and the Plusle and Minun, Milk: [link] and Toast: [link]
This is their first encounter with a MissingNo. They will stay well away from them in the future.
My fellow Pokenerds should know about Missingno. and M-Block, right? The glitch "pokemon." Yes. ^_^ I feel awful that I have only recently learned about it a year ago... Some pokemon geek I am. Psh. Well you know how it evolves into a kagaskhan sometimes? Well...this is it. XD And I keep coloring things! Haha! I'm overjoyed with myself.
Here's my other picture, more of a Marowak ghost sort of Missingno. [link]
I love the whole story of Cubone's mother residing in Lavender Tower. And we all know of Missingno, the Pokemon that never was (and if you don't, go ahead and Google Missingno. Pretty sweet). And how Missingno was rumored to supposed to be the link between Kangaskhan and Marowak/Cubone... I absolutely love the mystery behind it.
So, this is just sort of a missingno/Ghost Marowak sort of deal, with some aspects of the aerodactyl and kabutops skeletons, which are other forms of missingno. Yadda yadda.
Well, it was an experimentation to see if I was able to paint more cleanly... I failed. But anyhow, it made me learned that I'm too impatient to paint like I draw. (Ignore the weird pose, I just wanted to test my coloration!)
I love Mega Blastoise design by the way, in fact, I'm happy they had the chance to update old designs.
