A bigger canvas, A bigger swordHere's a good start on my 3rd Ballerina painting. I'm having so much fun painting these that I keep buying bigger and bigger canvases.A bigger canvas, A bigger sword in Personal More Like This

Day2... (despite advice to quit, call it done, and tap out early) I started adding color...

It's way ..way early on this one. So far it's mostly about trying to incorporate all the composition stuff I learned in Stephen Cefalo's workshop, and ..er, daydreaming about what the super powers of various Super Hero parings offspring would be. You'd think that Wonder Woman would naturally pair with Captain America, but no. Short of talking with fish he's got the lamest super gifts of the bunch. She'd do better giving lap dances to Professor-X ...Sure they both have keen reflexes, She has mad boomerang skillz, and he's yet to lose a round of frisbee golf. But I feel she can do better.... Thor maybe? Hmmm, I've got a lot to work to do on this.
Model is Chelsea of course: http://mordsithcara.deviantart.com/
She's Wonderful!!! (WIP)I don't know if I just think Wonder Woman is Hot, or that I think Chelsea is equally as smokin' ...but this is pretty dang fun to paint.... (oil on canvas 20x30)She's Wonderful!!! (WIP) in Personal More Like This
Oh, Yes I did... (work in Progresss)Wonder Woman!! This is going to be good...! I've been haunted by the thought of painting ..er, Wonder Woman and Chelsea sent me some great shots to work from. Here's the progress of the first...Oh, Yes I did... (work in Progresss) in Personal More Like This

..and the big picture, with the gears, and the rust ,etc....
..yes, YES, yes ..the pictures suck and are way over exposed. It's late. You'll just have to trust me that this is headed in the right direction

Why can't I Figure it out?Yes, Photography is an Art. I've been through periods of working in pastel, watercolor, acrylic and as you know originally I was a cartoonist. Photography is an art that apparently involves some sort of voodoo. I can't figure it out. Which sucks. Every pic i have tried to take of this painting is horrible. Some parts are so dark they look like they were inked for a cartoon and other parts look fuzzy and overexposed, WTF?! This painting is much more balanced than represented here... But, here you go, Work In Progress. Try to picture an awesome amount of hard work and color drained from this pic and maybe you will enjoy it as much as I have been. :-PWhy can't I Figure it out? in Personal More Like This

1 is never enough (WIP)...I can never seem to stay focused on just one painting, especially when I'm sitting on a pile of new reference images from my favorite model. I'm working on three different things now. Here's the pastel I started a couple of days ago...1 is never enough (WIP)... in Personal More Like This
...and here's the 2nd oil painting I started (see my previous journal post for the 1st)...

A Pop Culture Interpretation of The Supernatural
Every culture around the world created gods and other mythical beings by mixing and matching fanged and taloned animal parts—e.g., enormous eagle heads on lions’ bodies—human beings have always seemed to need to believe there are powerful and usually quite vengeful supernatural beings lurking just beyond the candlelight.
Supernatural beings come to serve several purposes:
They kept people on the lighted path of truth and goodness, fearful of exploring beyond;
They were a reminder of the punishment we deser

There is no cosmic law that states artists must suffer many long years and demeaning day-jobs before a window of opportunity cracks open just enough to hop on through.
Fellow deviant Brian Kesinger is a case in point.
His first “day-job” in 1996—he was hired straight out of his senior year of high school—was drawing Tarzan for Disney.
Brian stayed at Disney and he considers every day there a part of his ongoing education as an artist. He most recently worked on “Wreck It Ralph,” and has become active in the story department, where he dreams up fresh narratives and new characters with fellow Story Artists and Disney directors.
But more and more, he is being recognized for his own style and own creations

Cow TF- premier challengeThe following is the first invitation sent out by NightSkyMun:Cow TF- premier challenge in Personal More Like This
Dear Fellow Deviant,
Hello! I have decided to at least attempt to organize a little competition between DA artists As of late, and was hoping you might be interested. I have done a lot of research over the past few weeks, and I have chosen you along with about 75 (And counting) other artists, whom I am inviting to participate in this event. If it goes well this first time, there may be more in the future! Some among you are more obvious choices than others, as to why you were chosen, but along with the help of a few of my Arts Village friends, we have decided that you are up to the challenge. While many of you have submitted works that would meet the requirements already, these pieces have already been reviewed, and are possibly the reason you have been invited. This is a contest aimed at getting you to try something new, so we would like to see what you come up with. Anything submitted after April 2nd
Cow TF- latest newsWell, it is finals week here at BGSU, and I am taking a time out from my studies to do a little work on this competition. Started by NightSkymun, the competition submissions will be hosted in the Favorites section of this deviant page, and the Journal will serve to send out the latest updates.Cow TF- latest news in Personal More Like This
Right now, we understand here at the Arts Village that life is crazy for many of us, and many of you. Submissions will be accepted for the next several weeks- the deadline is uncertain for the moment, we will probably wait until we get about 25 entries, and then postpone it only by special request.
People have been asking what the prizes are for winners:
As of now, seeing as this is being run by a group of starving artist college students, the winners will be allowed to decide amongst themselves what the next competition will be as their reward.
I hope to see all of your entries soon!

Art, Passion, and FanaticismArt, Passion, and FanaticismArt, Passion, and Fanaticism in Personal More Like This
Art is an unlimited reality that includes many disciplines; each one of these disciplines suffer the same problem about their borders. I've heard many times "This is not art", "This is not music", "This is not acting", "This is not literature", etc. Probably they are right, problably not.
Our passion for what we do and love makes us put all of our senses, words, time and effort to enjoy and develope what we believe is something that is worth. We are called admirers, fans, devotees, etc. I'm and admirer of Velázquez and Sorolla, for example and they are always my reference. ( I'm still a shoe in comparison to them, btw )
But sometimes our love turns into a kind of pride that makes us blind about other ways or styles. I must confess it took time for me to understand other artistic expressions than figurative. My first Art books were about Rennaissance and anatomy studies, I was just 9 years old, but I remember my mom gave me a book about modern art just fe
Journal of an Artist 1I have the paper in front of me. I know how to draw her I just hope I can do it as it is in my mind. She has beautiful eyes. I'm not sure if they are blue or grey or a mix of them, but so clear like the sky in the second week of Spring. Anyways I'll just draw her.Journal of an Artist 1 in Personal More Like This
Lovely blond hair. It means I don't have to work it much. I'll let the white of the paper to work for me. I just wanna focuse on her eyes, her well marked nose -lovely for sure- and her lips. What a volume!
I wish I could draw her directly but just a photo can make her model to me, so quiet but telling much through such eyes and expression.
I try to draw a portrait at day so grids will help me to get the resemblance easier. I've felt guilty some time for using grids for some drawings but it is nice when people care of the emotions they feel with the result.
I don't pretend to be a master, they were really amazing. I just draw cuz it comes natural, with grids, without, with model, without model, from mind, from memory, perfect

OMG GUYS IT WAS GREAT
Okay, sure, some parts were missed out, but I expected that. And this one thing that was changed did annoy me slightly, but overall it was fantastic!
THE OPENING SCENE WAS THE BEST PART
Sure there were some inaccurate stuff, but what else would expect from a book-movie adaption? It's minor really, and pointless to get angry about if you look at the film in comparison to the awful first one.
I will say no more so I don't ruin it for anyone, but don't be put off by the first film, Sea of Monsters is worth watching fellow pjo fans :3

1. The character I first fell in love with: Mr. Valdez. ;3
2. The character I never expected to love as much as I do now: Piper. Despite the fact she does go on about Jason a lot, she's a fantastic character and super badass.
3. The character everyone else loves that I don't: Idek...I guess Jason? I do like him, just not as much as the others.
4. The character I love that everyone else hates: Hmmm...tough one. Maybe Khione? Do people hate Khione?
5. The character I used to love but don't any longer: ...I'll rephrase this to a character I used to love, but now don't love quite as much. So with that done, I'm saying Percy. I find that he is put on a pedestal by the fandom, when there are characters who are far more dev
