EDIT: Revamped the lighting and colouring. The old one is nowhere to be found! Ha-HA!
Been working on this for a couple weeks now as my chillout / warmup painting between some commissions. Sketched the face in my sketchbook and it all unfolded from there! This is my first sci-fi illustration, my first serious armour design, my first gun design, my first (good) character illustration, and my first painting of 2013. Further up, and further in!
Title is a nod to Halo 4 (I loved it), though this is not meant to exist within the Halo universe.
A soldier design I whipped up for my Ranger project a few days ago. A few people have been bugging me about battle ponchos, so here you have it.
The overcoat provides ballistic protection to the soldier by hardening on impact. It's looser fit compared to tightly worn soft armors mean it can afford to flex more during impact, making it more durable. This approach to protection leaves the soldier flexible in movement rather than restricted by hard plating. Under the coat is a light muscle suit which gives the solder even more flexibility and protection. Equipment that is needed quickly is held in pouches outside the coat, while additional gear and restocks are under the coat. Advanced versions of this Cloak armor may utilize adaptive camouflage systems. The combination of illusion from patterns and silhouette are quite effective. The weapon shown is a light weight machine gun that fires high velocity ammunition. This balance of mobility, range, and volume fire capability complement the soldiers flexibility in multiple environments.
Finally finished! I've chipped away at this piece for almost 3 months, the longest time span and most hours I've ever put into a painting at this point. Next big piece I'll just have to ramp up the scale even more
Nayora slumps to the ground, taking off her battered armor. Much of the suit is over heating from being pushed to and beyond it's limits, burning her skin in places, compounding on the injuries inflicted by her foes. She's survived this time but knows fighting like this, she wont live forever.
Several ships arrived in system carrying a small but specialized force of counter shield equipped bio-neural mechs and infantry. The ships also mounted massive offensive shield arrays that can cook anything on the planet surface. What they didn't expect was an Elemental being able to jump into low orbit, putting an end to the naval bombardment, leaving the ground forces stranded and without critical fire support.
Finally done, a big commission for *fox-unit This one was good fun, being set in my own story, with much of the composition up to me. So well, it felt like my usual work, just with the drive of money and satisfying someone else
A trio of ex-Ranger mercenaries, having a rest in an abandoned outpost.
A captain's uniform is more like a full suit of battle armor. Each piece offering features that would protect your VIP in the case of a fire fight or a sudden hull breach. One part uniform one part battle armor and one part space suit. www.kickstarter.com/projects/1…
Someone told me I'm good at robots, so I promptly drew a robot guy to prove them wrong. There now I'm good at robots. What you saw before was rubbish... actually, I'm not sure. Maybe I should draw another one.
