Texture Your World ContestTell us the story of your world in textures!Texture Your World Contest in Art Features More Like This
We are surrounded 24 hours a day by objects that have texture, they may be smooth or bobbly, old or new, bold, bright, shiny or dull. You might see a texture every day and never notice it until you start looking. Do you sit at a desk that's textured, or pass an interesting tree on the way to work or school?
We want you, in the form of a triptych (thats 3 images forming a larger image see example here - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Triptych ) to tell us the story of your textured world. Each individual texture should stand on its own, both as a useful resource and as a cohesive part of the whole story. What story you tell through your texture triptych is up to you - but they must be textures that tell a story of your world in some way.
There are 3 categories for this contest, each of which you can submit to twice.

Mourning for Icarus by H.J. Draper 1898
The Theme- ART:
We want you to recreate the story of Icarus, be that modern, or ancient using stock and resources available on DeviantART.
The Theme - STOCK:
We want you to recreate the story of Icarus, in stock form! Is your Icarus male or female? Are your wings made from feathers and wax or something more magical?
The Story: Icarus
Son of Daedalus who dared to fly too near the sun on wings of feathers and wax. Daedalus had been imprisoned by King Minos of Crete within the walls of his own invention, the Labyrinth. But the great craftsman's genius would not suffer captivity. He made two pairs of wings by adhering feathers to a wooden frame with wax. Giving one pair to his son, he cautioned him that flying too near the sun would cause the wax to melt. But Icarus became ecstatic with the ability to fly and forgot hi
When Darkness FallsA reminder to everyone about the current photomanipulation contest running at the moment, hosted by Aeirmid your lovely Photomanipulation Community Volunteer at :iconthe-sacred-space: and supported by :iconstockandresources: with prizes also being donated by :iconcommunityrelations:When Darkness Falls in Art Features More Like This
Darkness has fallen across the land of photomanipulation.
Haunted spirits and growling fiends descend on every nation.
And terror enthralls those within these walls,
Is this what transpires when darkness falls?
Or, perhaps gentle fairies emerge from 'neath a delicate daisy petal,
and the boys in the band gather in shadow to play their heavy metal?
And a drow elf crawls from the forest's lush walls,
Maybe this is what transpires when darkness falls!
Blame no one but ^SanguineVamp for this "poetry."
You decide what happens (transpires) when darkness falls!
Is it macabre? Is it fantasy? Is it emotional?
It is up to you.

Contest: Crossovers! As kids, we often mashed our toys together, regardless of Copyright. Superman would take command of G.I. Joe to defeat the combined forces of Doctor Doom and the Decepticons, while Barbie took a break from her idealistic lifestyle to become a Pokemon master. And the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles got recruited into Starfleet and taught Spock the wonders of pizza. I love writing for Transformers. Almost all of my fan fictions are set in the Transformers universe. I also truly enjoyed my foray into the Batman fandom.
What is it about these fandoms that inspires you? I'm a sucker for a well-defined and thought out antagonist. Give me interesting bad guys, and I'm sold. What is Art Nouveau?
"Art Nouveau (French pronunciation: [aʁ nuvo], Anglicised to /ˈɑːrt nuːˈvoʊ/) or Jugendstil is an international philosophy and style of art, architecture and applied art—especially the decorative arts—that was most popular during 1890–1910. English uses the French name Art nouveau ("new art"), but the style has many different names in other countries. A reaction to academic art of the 19th century, it was inspired by natural forms and structures, not only in flowers and plants, but also in curved lines. Architects tried to harmonize with the natural environment.
Art Nouveau is considered a "total" art style, embracing architecture, graphic art, interior design, and most of the decorative arts including jewellery, furniture, textiles, household sil

The term has evolved over time. The original meaning was in fine art, where cartoon meant a preparatory drawing for a piece of art, such as a painting or tapestry. The modern meaning refers to both humorous illustrations in print and animated films. Even more recently, there are several contemporary meanings, including creative visual work for electronic media and animated digital media. When the word cartoon is applie

You want to suggest it as a Daily Deviation because you believe it truly deserves to be seen by the community as a whole. But how to properly suggest a DD? This article will explain the process.PE Daily Deviations - So you want to suggest DDs? in Deviant Events More Like This
Things to check before sending a suggestion:
The first thing you need to check is if the artist has been given a Daily Deviation in the past 6 months. Volunteers cannot feature anyone who's had a DD in that period of time with no exceptions, as this has been hard-coded into deviantART's system.
"But how do I check an artist's Daily Deviations?" you may ask. Simply go to their gallery, click browse and scroll down. If they have any DDs, you'll be able to find a link to them at the bottom of the page. Alternatively, you can add "/dds" after their profile url and click enter on your browser's address bar.

It's a common complaint...

May's contest aims to answer that question. Your challenge is to create a tutorial aimed at deviantART's new members that shows them as much of the site as possible. This article is written for #LitResources. Our goal is to be a collection and creation station for all resources pertaining to literature on deviantART. This article will focus on Flash Fiction Month! If, after reading the article, you have more information or resources to add, please leave your thoughts in a comment! And don't forget to this article to help spread the word.
What Is Flash Fiction?
Put simply, flash fiction is a very short story. Lengths can vary from as few as six words (i.e. Hemingway's famous Baby Shoes) to a thousand, sometimes more. It depends largely on the outfit for which the author decides to write a piece of flash fiction. For the

February Solution Sanctuary: Critique!IntroductionFebruary Solution Sanctuary: Critique! in Deviant Events More Like This
What is the Solutions Sanctuary?
In January, thorns challenged everyone to come up with solutions to their biggest complaints with deviantART. Being the over-achiever that I am, I decided to try to tackle 12 of the complaints I hear about most often. Thus, The dA Solutions Sanctuary was born. The idea is to tackle one complaint every month in 2012. January's complaint was Daily Deviations, and the community rose to challenge of solving it beautifully.
What do people complain about when it comes to critique?
I recently posted a poll asking just that. The discussion it produced (and that you are more than welcome to continue) centered

We are pleased to announce the winners of the Halloween Murder Mystery Contest that was run through Halloween-HQ! First, let us tell you exactly what happened.
The killer was the Queen of Hearts. Ruthless and cold, she set out to kill Prince Charming for repeatedly spurning her unwanted shows of affection. She used a thin knife and struck when the lights went out during the castle ball. Quickly realizing what she had done and that she had gotten the wrong victim, she fled across Fairyland, through the dark forest, and back to her own castle.
Well, we originally had 3 prizes: 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place based on scores from the characters you visited. (You didn't know you were being scored, did you?) But, when we ended up with 825 participants, we figured we needed to up the prizes a bit, too. Moonbeam13 over in Community Relations is a goddess, and she made the prizes even BIGGER!
Planetary Mythology Photomanipulation Competition!Mythology of the PlanetsPlanetary Mythology Photomanipulation Competition! in Art Features More Like This
Welcome to the latest "dark" photomanipulation contest, supported by Community Relations here on deviantART. This contest will challenge you to think outside of the box, for you will have to not only create something, but you will need to do a bit of research and think about why you are creating it. Are you ready for a competition that is out of this world?
Before we go any further, let me clarify that PLUTO COUNTS!
What do I have to do?
Choose one of the planets (or Pluto) in our solar system, listed below. Moons or suns can be a part of the larger picture, but they do not count as your god/goddess.
Your job is to create a PHOTOMANIPULATION in which you show a myth around a planetary ruler (that is, the god or goddess after which the planets were named).
The gods/goddesses can be Greek, Roman, or other.... but they must be planetary rulers.
UPCOMING CONTEST:Detectives needed to solve murderThe King of Fairyland is seeking first-class detectives to solve a top secret case for the Monarchy. According to an inside source, a member of the Royal Family was brutally murdered last night, though the King has been loathe to comment on the tragedy. All Royal affairs seem secretive and obscure as darkness falls, both literally and figuratively, upon our magical kingdom. All we know is that a great search is underway for any and all detectives in Fairyland and surrounding regions. No doubt, the detective who successfully completes the unknown task to be set before him (or her) will be rewarded richly.UPCOMING CONTEST:Detectives needed to solve murder in Deviant Events More Like This

The point of the Candle in the Dark contest was to have people reflect on the things (coping mechanisms, people, etc.) that helped them get through their darkest times and come out stronger for the journey. It's about overcoming obstacles and growing. We had many, many amazing entries; you can see them here.
It was extremely difficult for those of us who judged the deviations to find a winner. How do you rate one person's pain and triumph against another? There really is no "right" or "wrong" answer. In the end, we went with the images and stories that were the most moving, powerful, and/or beautifully crafted. This could have gone about 20 ways, as each judge had her own ideas of what should win. In the end,

If you haven't already, you might want to take a look at it! It's a great read and you can get a good foundation as to what a Daily Deviation stands for.
So, I'll be touching on the subject of "Complaints about quality declines in Daily Deviations". Why is this so important to touch on? That's a great question and I will be more than happy to answer it below as I describe some key factors that are often overlooked in the way of art vs quality.

There is a lot of this going around "Daily Deviations are losing quality. They're not as beautimous as they used to be.". How about we step out of the shoes of "what is and isn't art" for just a s

Celtic Art - A Look In History
Written by KovoWolf for projecteducate
There is something so unique and so humbling about Celtic art that we can immediately recognize it when we see it, though it is difficult to truly describe as a single 'medium'. With intricate designs, swirls, and beautiful knotwork however Celtic art is also a medium that you can recognize when you see it. Because Celtic art covers a huge expanse of time, geography and throughout various cultures, it can present some difficulty when trying to term or define what Celtic art truly is.
Celtic art and culture date back as far as the 8th century B.C generally refers to the culture of the European Iron Age from around 1000 BC onwards, until the conquest by the Roman Empire. The Early Medieval art of Britain and Ireland, which produced the Book Of Kells and other masterpieces that are well known today and can be associated with "ce

Well, I am a soon-to-be art student and so far autodidactic digital artist. I started out with no knowledge of anthropophormism whatsoever as I joined dA, but the moment I stumbled upon the first anthro art piece, I was smitten. What really perked my interest was the mixture between human and animal anatomy. It was a foreign concept to me back then to mix appearently different anatomies that seemed to work as if it was real. It was also what brought me into studying anatomy more thouroughly for my art

Bring your Type to Life
This may sound abstract at first, but to keep the theme as open as possible, I choose a rather abstract title. There are many directions in which you can go. You could choose an anthropomorphic direction, where you breathe life into letters and give them human or other animate characteristics. Another route would be to create the letters out of living objects, such as plants or animals.
Which direction you choose, maybe even a third or fourth one, does not matter. What matters is that your letters are brought to life!
What kind of letters you bring to life, words, glyphs or sentences, is 100% up to you. This contest has a more visual approach, so you will not be judged on the creativity of the meaning you choose to give to the letters. However, don't rush it! Even one letter can appear completely different than another. Be wise with the letters, word

The main objective of this challenge is to evaluate the appropiate interaction between meaning, words, lettering and typefaces. The goal is to create a type treatment, or typographical logo, that focuses on one word or phrase as its main focus.
The idea is to find a movie or tv show logo that uses Trajan and give it a possibly more appropiate type treatment instead. You will find Trajan is used in a lot of movies and it has sort of become "The Hollywood Font".

Creating a piece of art from a quote requires a greater understanding of the one who said it and the circumstances, in order to make good decisions regarding layout, typefaces and coloring.
