"I don't know, this doesn't seem right." She said as she looked around at the plates. She had put the fish in the first box, the bird in the second, the cat in the third and the snake in the fourth. Nothing had happened when she placed each of the plates, but something compelled her, told her that this was what she was supposed to do.
"I guess the only thing left is to go through that door then." She said turning to face the wooden door at the end of the hallway. The Slender Pony had gone through the door before, so she knew it had to be waiting for her on the other side.
She walked up to the door carefully. She took a deep breath as she prepared for what was on the other side. She put her hoof up to the handle and pushed the door open.

Twilight pulled her head back, rubbing her forehead as she groaned. The spell was taxing, not to mention she had held it for minutes already. She shook her head before looking at her pink friend. Pinkie still had her eyes closed.
"Pinkie? You alright?" Twilight asked, not sure if she had been released from the effects of the spell yet.
It took a moment, but soon Pinkie's eyes slowly opened.
"You okay? It wasn't too much was it?" Twilight asked a little worried about her friend.
Pinkie simply blinked, before smiling and lowering her head closing her eyes. Twilight blinked a little confused at this behavior.
"Thank you Twilight." Were the first words to leave Pinkie's mouth.
"Oh, did it work?" Twilight asked, softly smiling.
"It did. And I thank you so much for helping me." Pinkie said lifting her head, letting Twilight see the smile on Pinkie's face. "If you hadn't helped me who knows what would hav

Fluttershy panted heavily as she lay on the cloud. Her wings were sore and her energy was low. She wasn't sure how much longer she could keep this up, it was exhausting her.
"Are you finished already? We've barely gotten any flying in today!" Rainbow sighed, hovering over the tired Fluttershy.
"I'm sorry " Fluttershy squeaked as she shakily got up onto all four hooves again.
"You're never going to keep your grades up if you don't get into better shape." Rainbow said flying down and forcing her on to her feet, spreading her wings and getting her into a flight stance, much to Fluttershy's dismay. "Okay, give me another speed lap around the loops. And GO." Rainbow yelled out before blowing on a whistle.
Fluttershy let out a soft cry before flying forward as quickly as he wings could carry her. Her wings had developed early and grown larger, but they weren't very strong despite that. Rainbow could only groan at Fluttershy's top speed, not even being a third of what she could

"Alright, hello everyone and welcome to the Wonderbolt Auditions!" Spitfire announced walking before the group of eager young fliers before her, "We've never really done this 'open auditions' thing before so it's kind of a new experience for everyone. However, we're confident that you're going to show us your stuff and the best of the best will have the honor of joining us, the Wonderbolts!"
Rainbow Dash felt tense as she stood amongst the crowd of fliers around her. There was a lot more potential new recruits than she had thought there were going to be. "Twilight? What are you doing?" Her mother asked looking down at the little filly who seemed to be nestled on a pillow surrounded by a fort made out of books.
"The munsters can't get me while I read now!" Filly Twilight spoke up in her young cheerful voice before sticking her nose back into the book and happily read away at her latest adventure.
Celestia stifled a giggle as the more adult Twilight who stood next to her blushed.
"I forgot how adorable you had been." Celestia commented.
"Ahaha yea " Twilight said trying to laugh her blush away. The ghostly image of that memory seemed to fade away and was replaced with another, this one a scene of Twilight's mother reading a book to filly Twilight.
This had been the scene since they had entered the building that looked just like her old home in Canterlot. Various images of memories past blinked in and out of existence, all of them Twilight's. Most in this house were just of her as a little filly, inter

Twilight was doing her best to understand what the three pictures before her meant. Each picture was a distorted mess of color and shapes. As she reached one side of the arena, from the ground on the opposite side the Slender Pony emerged from ground. He stood tall over her, his presence still bearing down.

It was decided that the wedding would be held the day after first snow fall, meaning the wedding would be held in two weeks' time. Each of the ponies were dressed in a different attire, each representing the different style of clothing that was worn so long ago. A younger Twilight watched the stage curiously.
It wasn't her first time watching the Hearth's Warming Eve pageant, far from it. It was traditional for many ponies to come and watch the pageant every year. The gunner replied as he depressed the tab below his right hoof which engaged the electrically charged mechanism required to rotate the bulbous protrusion on the top of the hull.

Days to go
Kaimanawa rolled around in his bed under the duvets that lay heavily on top of his pegasi body and insulated him against the cool night air. The night had been clear and colder than previously so he was snuggled, balled tightly against the cool air that was trying to seep in through any gap around his shoulders.
He pulled his blankets in and curled his fore hooves under to try keep the warm air from escaping and it seemed to work as he found a comfortable medium. Kai shuffled around and snuggled into his pillow and set himself on his right side, facing out towards the window.
The Squadron Leader had enjoyed his lodgings since coming to Tangmare and he knew every inch of it. The Window on the left, the hoof basin and mirror on the right, his free standing wardrobe to the right of the door and of course the personally purchased oak bed settee Colgate had brought on his behalf from the antique shop in Tangmare township.
Kai opened his eyes and sleepily stared forward as the sou

Tangmare stood strong and looked like a station that towered on the shoulders of giants, as Kaimanawa slowly walked back to his office after delivering Purse Strings to the hospital. He was feeling proud of his efforts and chuffed that he'd helped to bring relief to what looked like a very painful ailment.
It was, in fact, very true the relief that Purse Strings would get. Systemic Laminitis could lead to rotation or sinking of the third laminus and this in turn may lead to abscesses within the hoof that could be severe and very painful.
But there was another issue that had to be taken care of too; Money Grubber, the bookie that was practically holding her family at ransom.
Kaimanawa knew that Money Grubber was a civilian and justifiably, and legally so, there was no legislation written that would give the Squadron Leader the authority to act in lieu of a policing unit.
But what he did know is that the greedy back hander's actions led to the injuring of an enlisted mem

The Wednesday morning had passed well at Tangmare with the first flights of the day having taken off towards their intended targets, lead by the newly promoted Squadron Leader Pipiwai, O.C. The former Flight Lieutenants official commission had yet to be formally processed so his was Officer Commanding instead of Commanding Officer, denoting his temporary post.
Albeit their main role in recent times had been as a fighter-bomber squadron, today the 486th had been sent aloft armed with just their 20mm Neighspano's armed with anger in mind. The small stub wings usually reserved for external weapons carriage had been removed to reduce air resistance so their air combat skills could be augmented towards the turning fight.
"This is Foreshore Leader, squadron airborne on outbound heading. All flights formed up on Moa, no limp chicks reported."
Pipiwai called through his intercom to report the squadron status as they slowly climbed to a pre designated altitude for their ou

Friday had arrived and the days proceedings followed their normal routine as Colgate worked nervously at her desk and Kaimanawa made his rounds, checking on the squadron's flights who were rostered to fly and catching up for a rundown of the missions that had been flown.
Kai was not on flying duties himself today so Clockwork, as his executive officer, was flying lead on Kai flight with two new recruits, twins in fact, called Kittyhawk and Tomahawk. Kittyhawk had been assigned as Clockworks winger while Tomahawk had been assigned as Azalea's, as Sergeant Pilot Harmony had strained her left wing and was grounded until she was cleared fit for duties once more.
He walked out of his office and stood between Colgates desk and the bookshelf, watching as Clockwork curtailed the two new recruits that were standing at attention as their flight leader paced back and forth several times.
Kai smiled as he watched Clocks tail flick back and forth. Finally she sat in front of them

Colgate looked up as she shuffled on the spot, clenching her flank and shifting nervously, her rear hooves making a soft scratching sound on the floorboards underneath. She tapped her fore hooves together as she drummed up the courage to tell the Squadron Leader the truth.
Kaimanawa led on leaving the Corporal an opening for her to explain the nervous actions she suddenly exhibited, more nervous or subdued than during the period of Fyres admission.
"You have something to tell me as well?"
"Hold on please."
Colgate replied as she stood up and walked back into her office to behind her desk. A draw was opened and then closed. The glow of Colgate's magic lit up any shadows with a faint blue hue as she walked back in levitating a small pile of shredded paper.
Upon Kaimanawas desk she slid the plate of pavlova aside and gently placed the pile of, what Kai though was confetti, on the desk and sat back down with her head hung as low as it could w

"It seems the four musketeers are assembled."
Kaimanawa mused with a smile as he sat back down on his chair with a squeak from the broken leg.
"If you're hungry help yourself to some nibbles or a drink. There's soda there if you want."
But there was no immediate reply coming from the party of three that had just arrived in the Squadron Leaders daily abode.
Kai asked as none of his guests moved to partake in the refreshments. He looked around at the three ponies that sat around him and frowned, a bit frustrated, at the fact that none of them were willing to engage with him proactively and were therefore leaving it to the most senior office to start the proceedings.
"Very well, I will start if there are no one is willing to talk to me, obviously you're all in some sort of shock."
The Squadron Leader paused, thinking on his words before picking up the phone suddenly but without dialing any numbers. He was to bait his friends into speaking.

Kaimanawa unzipped his flying jacket and hung it on the coat hanger in the corner along with his flying cap and goggles. He leant back, then forth, stretching out his muscles after the fruitless two hour Rhubarb intruder mission.
And uneventful mission given no real targets of opportunity had presented themselves.
No trains, tail planes or automated mobiles were willing to play tag with his 20mm Neighspano's and it had left him feeling disappointed. A flight of Woofwaffe pegasi were spotted in the distance but were out of range and heading into Auffenpinscher held territory therefore would've posed too much of a risk, had a trap been laid.
After stretching he shook out like a mutt which caused his hooves to rattle on the floorboards below, making it sound like he was doing an Irish pony gig.
Colgate called out from her office.
Kaimanawa replied in volume.

His head hurt. He was so very hungry. The last thing he remembered was Swordread asking him if he was okay. Then there was nothing but blackness. Until now. Now he could feel the light. Feel it because it pierced his brain, like tiny splinters of glass slipping past his shut eyelid and stabbing into his brain. Destrier cursed loudly and shifted away from the window, slowly opening his one good eye.
“Good Morning to you too, Mister Sunshine.” He knew that voice too well. The red pony groaned.
“Why are you still here?” Destrier grumbled as he buried his head under the covers, “You have your prisoner, go home.”
“Is that any way to talk to your big brother?” snickered Swordread with a cheeky smile. “Besides Dad said that I have to get all the eyewitness testimony and that includes you, Red. "This might be as easy as finding a needle in a haystack," Destrier grumbled, mostly to himself. From the way it sounded, Charger had been fairly young when his family had moved from Ponyville to Canterlot, and one never knew if this Wildflower's family had done the same, perhaps following the settlers to Dodge.
"I remember that Wildflower's mom had a florist shop in the town square," Charger said as Eaglewing appeared, the Pegasus landing with little impact near the gray unicorn. Immediately he began to speak.
"I didn't see any florist shops, but I wasn't looking for them either. There was a cart near the fountain not far from here. There was a really cute mare selling flowers. By the way did you notice all the mares? I did! Fillies and mares by the dozen! I think I'm going to like it here!"

For a moment, Destrier contemplated strangling the Pegasus with one of the curtain pull cords. How he hated hearing that. “Stop Right There, Criminal Scum!” was the new catchphrase amongst the Royal Guards of all of Equestria’s races. Students used it all the time, bellowing it to one another during training drills until Destrier had enough of it.
“A fire spell’s a little drastic for catching a simple shoplifter, criminal scum or not, don’t you think?” growled the silver clad officer, striding over to the Pegasus and staring down at him. “Fanning the flames with your wings in order to flush him out is a bit of overcompensation, wouldn’t you say? You both are lucky no one DIED in tonight’s debacle.”

Destrier wasn’t aware of how much his confession and the following kiss had caught Honeycrisp by surprise. She was so stunned that it took more than a minute to begin to react properly, and in that time her scarlet unicorn had come to the conclusion that her lack of response meant that his kiss and his confession were unwanted; he began to pull back so that he could apologize to her.
“Oh no you don’t!” whispered the paint mare. She wrapped her forelegs about his neck and pulled Destrier back down to her, finally returning his kiss with one just as passionate, a kiss that left no doubt as to how she felt about her scarlet knight.
Checkered Flag watched the couple kiss for a few moments, pleased that his sister had found a potential mate who seemed to adore her, even if she did have to whack him in the head with a horseshoe to get his attention. However, he was starting to feel uncomfortable with the prolonged public exchange between the couple; the

“And your mother is okay with this?” Destrier asked, as the colt pawed the floor with his left hoof.
“Mum said that they no longer have room for me at home, sir. They gave my little sister my old room and turned her smaller room into her closet. Pastel has lots of clothes, you see. She’s a regular clothes horse.”
Destrier was completely surprised by this. Chocolate Chip Mint hadn’t been the type to just allow her foal to be tossed out like yesterdays trash. Not the Mintie he knew. But then again she did marry Lancer and he had always been jerk. Maybe it rubbed off.
There was a flapping sound of wings from outside, and a fleeting glimpse of Princess Celestia as she passed by the windows outside his quarters. She looked decidedly unhappy. Destrier smirked a bit. Lancer and Minty were going to get a talking to by he

It was definitely Honey. Her mane was longer than he remembered, but it was her. From her pretty brown eyes to the swath of white on her right foreleg, it was her. Destrier stared down at her, shocked to see her again. She was looking up at him with curiosity, and slightly tilted her head to the left as she gazed at him but he was pretty certain that she didn’t recognize him.
He knew that he looked different, what with his disfigurement and the fact that he wasn’t in the highly polished golden armor that the Royal Guard wore on special occasions like the Grand Galloping Gala.
Maybe it was better this way.

The commander of the 145th Brigade of the Equestrian Royal Guards was exhausted. Not physically, but mentally. This night had been nothing short of a disaster, all thanks to one of his own. The scarlet unicorn sighed, looking over the city of Canterlot. The fire brigades had finally put out the flames, but not before several businesses downtown had been destroyed.
All this chaos and destruction to catch a petty thief. It wasn’t worth it. Destrier turned from the window to consider the ones who had wrecked such havoc. Charger was young and new to the unit. He had talent that much was evident. His father had been a guard himself; the grey stallion was only following family tradition. The pony in question kept his gaze on the floor, not daring to look at his commander.
Charger had not been alone in causing such chaos; a member of the Pegasus wing had also been involved. Destrier shifted his gaze to Eaglewing. The white winged pony was awaiting the a

This was the pony that brought that rag tag circus to Canterlot, the one that convinced the skeptical Guards that the Chimera was as docile as a house cat under control of his flea-bitten trainer.
At first everything seemed fine. The circus played for three days without incident.
Then something happened, the spells used to subdue the chimera failed, right in the middle of the afternoon show. The careless trainer was horrifically slaughtered in front of the audience by the beast, the very first to die. It then attacked and maimed or outright killed several foals and their unsuspecting parents, members of a school field trip that had come to see the circus.
The Corps were sent in to control the rampaging animal, to no avail. It decimated the 145th. The 72nd pegasi wing joined in the fight and the creature tore through them like so much paper. Destrier had been young and filled with stupid bravado, he had charged the brute. It took him down too easil

The dining room fell dead silent after Mintie spoke.
It was felt as if she had cast an ice spell, for the room seemed so much colder to Destrier. He could see the effects of the unicorn’s words upon those in the room with the merest glance. He wanted to argue with her, tell Mintie that she was horrible for telling such a disgusting lie. But looking about at the others in the room stayed Destrier’s tongue.
Most of those gathered looked as shocked as he himself felt. Charger had gone pale, his expression slack jawed and almost uncomprehending of his mother’s words. Only a few knew exactly which of the mares in that village the chosen ones were. Of course the Shieldons knew. The Captain of Princess Celestia’s personal guard would know much more that the average guard pony would not. Destrier was only in the know because he was a personal friend of the Shieldons.
“If that is a covert mission you are asking me to take on, I think I should remind you that I am retired,” Destrier said with amusement.

She wasn't close enough to work out what they were saying though. As she began to see light, the voices faded away.
She took a deep breath and cautiously looked into the chamber she was in. She must've been heading a lot more downhill than she had thought, either that, or some sort of magic had been performed on the chamber as it was very large overall and the ceiling was very high.
The chamber seemed to have multiple levels with small rock paths, only just rough enough to use, leading to various large platforms at different heights which had different purposes, and some which had entrances to other areas. The walls, unlike the ones she had seen before, seemed to be made up of rock and c

As the Grand Galloping Gala, which had been as dull as ever, drew to a close, Princess Celestia approached her niece.
As Shining Armor had pointed out, Cadence had looked more beautiful than ever wearing her brand new dress that evening. She was sitting by a tree now talking with Shining Armor.
'But how are you going to find it?' Shining Armor was saying, 'It could be anywhere!'
'I don't know,' Cadence admitted, 'but I have to.'
'Cadence?' came Celestia's voice. Cadence turned her head.
'Yes, Auntie Tia?' Cadence replied.
'I'd like to speak with you for a moment,' Celestia told her. Cadence nodded before turning to Shining Armor.
'I'll be back soon,' Cadence said.
Once they were a little distance off, they stopped.
'Every so often,' Celestia began, 'there is a meeting known as the Union Of The Alicorns. You can guess from the name what it is. A large amount of alicorns meet up to share any news or things they have discovered. Very few alicorns will turn up to a lo

Cadence opened her eyes. It was almost dawn. She thought of Princess Celestia. She'd be back soon and worrying. It had been Cadence's worry and guilt which had caused her to wake so early. She needed to get back. Whatever the goblins said, she was leaving.
She spotted them over by the fire. She silently walked towards them, but then concealed herself. She got a sudden bad feeling from the tones of their voices. As she looked around, she noticed that the winged goblin was hovering. Hadn't he said his wing was damaged?
'So we'll take her back to the base,' the winged goblin was saying, 'so we can collect a few things, and then . . .'
'We go off into the mountains!' exclaimed the horned goblin, taking another enthusiastic bite of the meat he was eating, leaving bits of blood around his mouth. Cadence sincerely hoped that meat wasn't what she thought it was; but what were they talking about?
'So what are we going to do to her then?' asked the earth goblin eagerly.

The wind was roaring and Cadence was struggling to fly forward at all. It seemed like the closer they go, the worse the weather was. They were aiming to land close to where the edge of the empire had used to be, and then search from there, with hope that Cadence might be able to sense something. The other three alicorns were struggling too, but not nearly as much as Cadence was because they were so much bigger and much stronger flyers.
'I think we may be close!' Aquila shouted over the roaring wind.
'We need to start slowly lowering ourselves to at least get a better view!' Celestia hollered back.
This was a lot more difficult than it sounded. It was difficult enough to go forward, nevermind going downwards at a slow speed while preparing to land. Cadence had never done this before in normal conditions. When she flew, she generally stayed quite close to the ground and even when she didn't stay particularly close, she made swift landings, not gradual ones.

Being chained to a wall wasn't exactly fun. In fact, it was downright unpleasant, not to mention uncomfortable. There was no way Cadence could free herself; even if she had known an appropriate spell, she would be unable to perform it with her damaged horn.
What should she do? When he returned, what would he . . ? Cadence suddenly remembered the device attached to her hair. Would she be able to move her head close enough to it for it to be able to be used? She leaned up as far as she could.
'Grandpa?' Cadence called weakly, 'Grandpa, are you there?'
'Cadie?' came Dusk's voice, 'Cadie, is that you?'
'Yes! Yes, it's me!' Cadence replied anxiously.
'Cadie, where are you?' Dusk asked in a worried tone, 'are you hurt? You sound frightened.'
'I'm, I'm down in the old mines, Grandpa!' Cadence responded quickly.
'The mines!' Dusk exclaimed, 'what are you doing down there! Can't you find your way out?'

A New Sound - C1Mornings were not Vinyl’s domain, that was a well known fact to everyone in her life. It could be argued that her job had made her this way, late nights and the bright lights of nightclubs had made her numb to the subtle, creeping advance of Celestia’s sun as it clambered over the distant rooftops to slip between her curtains.A New Sound - C1 in Short Stories More Like This
However, despite her job being mostly to blame, there was one other, small reason that caused Vinyl to bury her head further in the pillow than usual this morning.
A court proceeding, as Octavia promptly reminded. her. She poked Vinyl in precisely the place she knew would cause her to jerk out of the bed, leaving her spread eagled in a toga formed from the bedsheets. Octavia trotted up to the edge of the less than graceful heap of white sheets and white pony, already awake and ready for the day.

Heartstrings and Gumdrops: Part ThreeBreakfast was a rapid fire affair. Lyra emptied the bowl of Cheerileeos down her throat in a manner that would have made the most gluttonous of ponies feel somewhat queasy. She devoured the bowl's contents in a matter of seconds, throwing it into the sink before she assaulted it with a sponge and towel. She perched the bowl on the dishrack at the side, breaking into a light canter as she picked up her lyre case in a mint green aura of magic. Her hoof was on the door handle as she heard the light, airy call from the kitchen she had attempted to abandon.Heartstrings and Gumdrops: Part Three in Short Stories More Like This
"Where are you galloping off too, young lady?"
Lyra cursed under her breath, lightly stroking the door handle as she decided to opt for distance rather than direct confrontation. She called down the hallway, hoping her mother would maybe, just maybe, not bother to ask any more of her.
"Just...going on a vacation from work. Only a week, mum!"
"And when were you thinking of telling me about this?!"
Lyra took the opportunity presented by th
For ScienceThe doors parted with a breathy, scraping sound, not unlike that of a sword being unsheathed. They were perfectly sterile, white portals into a perfectly sterile, white room. She observed her surroundings as she came to a halt in the centre. The laboratory's owner was not known for inefficiency or general lack of organisation, and as such, the entire room was precariously arranged in an example of harmonious order. A table stood in the centre, various implements adorned its surface in perfect size order. A bookshelf contained a fascinating array of hardbacks in a myriad of colours, all assigned their rightful place by way of the Dewey Decimal system.
Even the desk in the corner was perfectly organised. The keyboard was exactly parallel to the desk edge, the mouse sitting in the exact centre of its appropriated mouse pad. The monitor revealed a lucid desktop, uncluttered with icons, a sober image
A Canterlot HauntingThere is a phenomenon few know about, that graces the Canterlot Performance in the deep hours of night. The baritone performance of travelling stallions would cease, the crowd unleashing the required applause as the performers bow out with all the attempted grace such ponies can have. The murmur of small talk and criticism would simmer to nothingness, and as the cleaners swept through the aisles, cleared away the rubbish and ruin of the night, it would begin.A Canterlot Haunting in Short Stories More Like This
Many of the younger or newer staff members had ridiculed tales away with an sweeping hoof, having heard too many stories of pranks and hoaxes. The high, floating tone of the cello in the breeze would go unnoticed. Many of the staff had surrendered their efforts to find the very obvious hidden gramophone, while others still found the melody too ethereal for their ears. The midnight cleaning staff refreshed its ranks quite often.
It was as the cleaners shuffled out the door, elder stallions chided by the young ones for their naivety
Heartstrings and Gumdrops: Part TwoLyra closed the door behind her with something of a dejected slam, half-heartedly attempting to send the door to a crashing oblivion, but not really feeling up to the task of putting in the required effort. She decided to make up the excess by slamming the keys on the table in the hallway, pricking her ears as she heard a voice from beyond the door at the end of the hall.Heartstrings and Gumdrops: Part Two in Short Stories More Like This
"Is that you, Lyra?"
Lyra sighed, slowly treading her way up the carpet to the door. She nudged it open a crack, spotting her mother sitting at the table, nursing a cigarette that was well on its way to the afterlife.
"No mum, it's a burglar. Have we got any mail?"
"Yes, over there on the counter. Just one for you. How did your chat with your agent go, by the way?"
Lyra picked up the pile of letters, several addressed to Miss Hyacinth Bouquet, and one for herself. She opened it to find a leaflet for free horn extensions. Hyacinth noticed a sudden brightening in the room as Lyra channeled her current frustra
A New Sound - C2Vinyl eventually emerged from the bathroom amidst a rolling fog of condensing steam and shampoo fragrance. She trudged into the kitchen with her mane and tail still encased in a pair of towels, softly dripping a sparse trail of water onto the floor as she passed through the living room. Vinyl leant against the doorway, watching Octavia busy herself around the kitchen as the pan sputtered and spat. The whole room was bathed in the delicious scent of vanilla, as well as the French toast itself. That wholesome aroma promising a delectable breakfast, a breakfast Vinyl was afraid would come back on her if her nerves kept on like this.
Octavia glanced over her shoulder, noticing the slightly damp Vinyl in the doorway. She smiled in a passing manner, before trotting over to attend to a violently hissing slice of toast on the pan. Vinyl had to admire the skill Octavia had with tools, she herself would be useless without her horn, and cou

Dancer shouldered his rifle, laying prone amongst the fallen leaves of the oak tree that shrouded his presence. He lined up his sights, seeing the first of his targets emerge. A group of the dumpy primates stumbled from out of the distant undergrowth across the field, he lined up his first shot on the forehead of their leader.
"Patience. Why kill one when you can kill four? You'll know the right moment when it comes."
A light winked on his Muzzle-Up Display. His comrades were in position, the welcome mat was laid out and waiting. He chinned a button in his helmet, flashing his acknowledgement in response.
The primates had fanned out, and Dancer could see them more clearly now. They were bipedal, but crawled on four legs more out of laziness than any real biological intent. He could see them raising their snouts to the air, snuffling through their masks. The very same masks were piped to pyramid-shape
Allegrezza - Part Thirty-OneThe midnight moonlight crept through the curtains, illuminating the room within. Eerie protrusions burst forth from the floor and walls, casting grim and wavering shadows that seemed to stalk their way across the room. Octavia had never enjoyed nighttime, her night sight had never been something to shout about. Sadly, Vinyl's room was full of all manner of debris, casting irregular pony-shaped shadows onto her imagination.Allegrezza - Part Thirty-One in Short Stories More Like This
The problem being, of course, that Octavia couldn't sleep. But an hour ago, this had been something of an advantage during the nighttime activities. Now though, it kept her mind turning over the same niggling doubts, snowballing them into overbearing worries and trepidations. She glanced at her...partner. She supposed that was the correct term, was it not? It had been a worryingly infrequent label that she had been unable to apply to many other ponies. Mounting entries on her to-do list coupled with a draining amount of time in which to attend to them had made Octavia somewhat irritable. The night of the Gala was upon them, and she was expected to be in attendance with her ensemble in no less than an hour. As such, it was very much to her chagrin that she discovered Vinyl asleep on the bed, where she should have already begun changing into her outfit.
A burst of sharp jabs to the stomach remedied the situation, and Vinyl's bleary eyes were met with the sight of a rather indignant Octavia bearing down on her.
"Vinyl, are you asleep?!"
A brief respite was given from the intent glare, as Vinyl's hooves shakily rubbed her eyes.
"Yeah...I was, what's up?"
Octavia practically cuffed Vinyl to her hooves, her benevolence somewhat lessened by copious amounts of stress, and an impatient cart driver waiting outside to bear them away to the palace.
"You're what's meant to be up! Come on! Ge

After tussling with his thoughts for at least an hour, Simmons fell back onto his pillow, utterly exhausted. Donut pouted. "But it--"

Thirty minutes later he stumbled out of the bathroom and toward the kitchen reluctantly, the smells of food wafting from its direction a greater pull than the force repelling him from the room. He pushed the door open wearily, and froze

Sure, he had been just as interested in astronomy and constellations as the next nerd, but with the darkness had always come the fear of the unknown, of shaded, hidden places where things with fangs and scales could strike out at him at any given moment. It made it ever more surreal then, that subtle ache of longing to see the moon through a window every time he'd curl up under his blankets for the "night." He wasn't even sure if he was on the right time schedule anymore; the sun never set in Blood Gulch, so how was he to know if he really was sleeping during the night part of the day?
