"I hear Pripyat is pleasant this time of year."
Sniper stood watch, just outside the old travel agency building. Aside from somehow withstanding the rest of the block collapsing around it, the shop was impressive for having reasonably preserved brochures. Captain and Pilot would often amuse themselves by planning trips to countries that no longer existed, and Engineer would gather what they discarded for kindling. Whenever Sniper grew sufficiently bored, he'd call out with something he thought was witty.
It was a bit like that, being on watch; you'd either say something funny and die knowing your sense of humour was too good for this world, or you'd say nothing and die without validating your ego.
"Actually," Engineer spoke up from the Visit Asia section, a finger tracing over dusty advertisements as he moved along the aisle, "One of the last GOOD directorate broadcasts sent out was a list of anomalies brought on by the apocalypse, and apparently Chernobyl became the least radiated pla

It had been dropped off cliffs, plunged into radioactive water, used to hold questionable substances and once travelled several hundred kilometres after Pilot tied a helium balloon to it. It had been thrown at Snippy countless times. It had suffered the indignity of being sat on by Engie after the Captain left it lying on a chair.
It had never been washed in its life.
But in the end, all it took was one little nudge, and the mug the great, glorious mug was reduced to a few shards of broken ceramic and a spatter of sad-looking tea.
It happened like this:

Lily was sitting in the common room on a couch in front of the fireplace. She was reading Hogwarts, A History for her next History of Magic lesson. She tried to concentrate on the legend of the Chamber of Secrets, but it wasn't that easy, as a loud applause and screaming started in the common room. Lily turned her head.
James Potter came down the stairs. There was a white little lily between his teeth. Lily rolled her eyes and returned to her book. After a few minutes, James stopped next to the couch. He stared at the girl without saying a word. Lily sighed angrily and glanced at him impatiently.
Lily's look changed from upset to shocked while James unbuttoned his shirt. He unfolded it, sticking his chest out. There was a writing on his skin with red ink under his tie, which read: 'WANNA DATE?'
James smiled with the flower in his mouth and looked questioningly at Lily.
"No." she said concisely.
Lily stood up with her book in her hand. She he

"Couldn't we talk in a more hidden place?"
The hiss came from the half-length, black, greasy haired boy with the hooked nose. Lily frowned and crossed her arms in front of her chest.
"I want a single answer, Severus."
Severus released a furious breather and grasped Lily's right arm.
"Hey, what are you doing?!", she screamed angrily.
"If you want answers, you'll give me something in return", he answered, without any emotions reflecting on his waxy complexion.
He dragged Lily to a shadowy corner.
"Get off me!", she flailed.
Severus pushed Lily away. She lost her balance for a moment, but she looked at him with pure hatred in her eyes when she regained it.
"What do you want?", he barked.
"Where are the Potters?"
Severus gave her a surprised glance.
"What made you care about that ignorant moron so suddenly?" he tried to make a grin, but it turned out to rather be a snarl. "Maybe you should check your pumpkin juice in the mornings; Amortentia is a pre

Lily sent an owl with a huge box full of the presents she bought for her family on the 23rd of December. She wrote her parents she would definitely not go home for Christmas, since it was her sixth year at Hogwarts and that means a lot of studying -- especially during school breaks.
She was reading all night the day before Christmas. She was so excited because of the next day, she couldn't sleep. 'It's because it's Christmas tomorrow', she thought but a part of her common sense (a very shameful part of it) suggested it was because of James's return.
She woke up for a loud scream. "MERRY CHRISTMAAAS!" She jumped out of her bed frightened. Her D.A.D.A. textbook fell down from the bed. "Me-Merry Christmas" Lily yawned for Mary and went to the bathroom to wash herself awake.
"Aren't you excited for what you got?", Mary asked.
"I am", Lily mumbled, and then spit the toothpaste she had in her mouth to the sink. "But I don't want to have dental caries."

Lily's question spread between the hospital beds. James turned a page in the Evening Prophet and answered without looking at Lily: "Yes, you did. This was the fifty-second time."
"Still doesn't express the hatred I feel for him.", she grumbled and tried to sit up in the bed with several painful hisses coming from her mouth.
"You should be grateful, Evans", said Sirius from the opposite bed. "You don't have to study for a few days."
"I'll let you know if I want to burn as if I was in the ninth pit of hell again." She answered him with contempt.

Sound of approaching footsteps tore Lily and James apart. Mrs. Potter turned up in the basement again. She was followed by Sirius and Remus.
"James!", the woman screamed and sank on her knees next to his son. "Are you alright, sweetheart?"
"I'm fine", replied James and he sat up. "Is dad… he was just stupefied, was he?"
"Oh, yes", she sighed. "Rennervate!"
Mr. Potter batted his eyelids confused. He could slowly understand what was going on around him.
"Darling", he stammered, looking at his wife. "What happened?"
"I'll tell you everything at home", said Mrs. Potter and stood up.
"Where are the other Death Eaters?", Lily asked Remus.
"They Disapparated", he answered.
Lily glanced at Sirius. The boy was staring at his parents on the floor. James and his mother and father were too busy with reuniting, so only Lily and Remus could notice his conspicuous silence.
She stood up and stepped to him. She put her hand on his shoulder patronizingly.

"Where exactly did you get this Cloak?", Lily asked.
They were sneaking on the Hogwarts grounds, towards the Whomping Willow.
"It's inherited in our family.", James whispered.
"You wore it when… when we were in the Hospital, didn't you?", she inquired.
"Yes, we did, Evans, but would you stop questioning us when we're on such an important mission?", Sirius hissed.
Lily shut her mouth and mutely followed them under the Cloak. She had no idea how they would get through the Willow's flapping branches, but she didn't dare asking it -- they were still too close to the castle and the boys might have sent her back.
"I'll be right back", said Sirius, he slipped out of the protection of the Cloak and transformed into a large, black dog.
Lily watched him amazed while he ran under the branches of the tree. The plant suddenly froze as if Sirius immobilized it.
"C'mon", James whispered.

This single question echoed in Lily’s head after her paralyzed legs could have been moved. She rushed over the floors and stairs, bumping into people. After the sound of the bell, almost everyone disappeared. Only a few, late students were running to their classes.
Lily had no intention of following them. She went up to the Gryffindor Tower and stepped into the Common Room. Just as she wished, no one was there. She climbed to the armchair in front of the fireplace.
Two cats appeared in the Common Room, the black Ragamuffin cat with the white vest of fur on its chest chasing the Russian Blue one. The black cat noticed her owner and stopped playing. She curled her long-haired tail as if she was asking what the problem was.
“Come here, Domino!”
The cat jumped on Lily’s lap. She mewed quietly and looked up at her. Lily looked at the beautiful, different coloured -- one of them blue, the other green -- ey

Black dots were dancing before Lily's eyes while Remus grabbed her right arm and pulled her about between the rows. They weren't the only ones to run around like crazy; everyone panicked and shouted James's name. Lily and Remus arrived to the bottom of the pitch but only some confused Ravenclaw students were there. Apparently, they didn't notice the accident and landed after James was taken away from the grass. One of them was as white as a corpse and tears were streaming down his face. Lily watched the beefy boy who seemed to be a Beater -- judging from the bat in his shaking left hand. She was so befuddled she lost the ability to keep in mind what to do in this critical situation.
Remus continued on his way with Lily's hand in his grip.

Lily decided to start practicing for the forthcoming exams as soon as she got back to school. She kept the promise she made for herself, and so she reread her textbooks.
On Tuesday, she was on her way to lunch, just after she had received James’s letter from St. Mungo’s. He wrote he was going back to Hogwarts the next day, so Lily was in a very merry mood. She intended to share the source of her joy with Sirius and Remus too, because Sirius had been upset for those three days since school started, as James wasn’t there to practice for their match against Hufflepuff; and Remus was worried about his friend. Everyone seemed to be so sad and down around her at school that day, but she felt happy.
But before she could turn left on one of the corridors with a wide smile on her face, someone called her name:

Lily almost forgot about him, though his shoulder touched hers and he was constantly trembling -- either with anger or cold.
"Release them!", James shouted and lunged abruptly to the Blacks.
Two wands were raised at the same time. One of them was Mrs. Black's and red light jumped out of it. The other wand was Lily's who cried frightened: "PROTEGO!"
The shield spanned in front of James and the Full Body-Bind Curse glanced off of it.

I'm writing because I've got something to confess. Well, it's not so much a confession as a statement, because it's not something I regret. Even if it's something you do.
I've finally got a girlfriend; she's great and I care about her a lot. She's smart and she's nice and she's beautiful. And I don't care if you don't approve, because I love her.
It's Rose Weasley.
I'm sorry if I disappointed you, Dad. I'm done with trying to live my life by your rules, but I'm sorry if this upsets you.
I didn't really want to go into Slytherin, you know. The Hat was considering Ravenclaw, but chose Slytherin. I didn't argue, but I wanted to. I didn't because I knew you wanted me to be Sorted into Slytherin.
I regret it.
This won't be another choice I'll live to regret. I'm not leaving Rose, even if you disown me. This is my choice.
I love you, yes? Ron Weasley woke from his nightmare with a gasp, his pillow soaked with sweat. Hermione stirred next to him and turned over so she was facing him. Ron smiled. "Um, it's nothing. Nightmare." he croaked, his voice rough from sleep. He cleared his throat. "Go back to sleep."

I want you first to know that no losses that occurred in this war were your fault. I know you feel the guilt, Harry. Understand that the people who fought in the battle did not fight it for you. They fought it for themselves, and more importantly, for the world. You were an extremely crucial part of the war, I do not deny that. But you were not the cause. This battle was inevitable. Whether it happened when it did, where it did, or elsewhere at another time. It would have happened eventually. Perhaps it is better that it happened now. Many losses would have been sustained in this fight, and if those same losses had not occurred had the battle not been when it ha

"I've seen the way you look at me, Harry," Draco lowered and softened his voice. He knew that being harsh was not going to get the answer out of Harry. Harry felt his heart flip at the sound of Draco saying his first name in a tone of voice which was genuine and silky without its usual sarcastic sneer.
"W...why are you here?" Harry spluttered out the question, shaking hard. He was looking at the floor, not darin

Although it had only just gone eight in the morning and the sun hadn't even begun to shine at its full capacity, the air was hot and humid. Even the wind, which had begun to pull at the leaves and chase pieces of paper from the desks as it invaded the room through the window, carried some warmth with it. Each sound was intensified, people laughing and chatting sleepily, owls hooting as they returned from a night's hunting and the deep, rhythmetic rumbles of Ron Weasley snoring.Drarry fanfic Pt 12 in Romance More Like This

He didn't want to wake up from this dream, not just yet. He didn't want to sink back into reality, not just yet. In his heart, he knew it'd have to end and he'd have to wake up and go back to the cold reality of what his friends, let alone his father, would do if they found out, but not just yet. Draco lay in bed. He was angry as he'd had yet another fight with his friends. He'd come into the Slytherin common room in a rage after a run-in with the mudblood, the weasely kid and potter's girlfriend asking him what he'd done to Potter. Why did they think he'd done something to Potter! As he sat heavily on a chair between Crabbe and Goyle he ranted,
"Can you believe Potter? He thinks I've done something to him! He's the one planning something against me! Who does he think he is anyway! Him and his stupid mudblood friend! And the Weasley girl, trying to reason with me! What does he see in her anyway?!..." Draco babbled on, his voice getting louder and faster as he went. "...Him and his beautiful green eyes!" As he said his last line the room became quiet. Pansy stifled a small sob and left the room.
Suddenly the room became noisy. A series of angry and mocking voices merged together, overwhelming him.

Drarry fanfic Pt 2 Harry had just finished his homework when the sun began to set, and waiting for Hermione to get packed up, he played with the grass, tearing the lush blades from the ground and running them through his fingers. He toyed with the idea of trying to get them to levitate but Hermione was finished and Ron had finally given up being patient and was now pestering them to hurry up. As he stood up he saw the familiar figure of Ginny running over to him. He was happy to see Ginny but was aware of a niggling annoyance in the pit of his stomach, before he could figure out what it was Ginny had flung herself at him and was giving him a bear hug. He hugged her back and the four of them went off to the main hall. Harry tried to ignore it, but he had a funny feeling about the way Malfoy, who was in front of them, had given a beseeching and almost sad look towards him before disappearing into the building.Drarry fanfic Pt 2 in Romance More Like This

Pansy was just flat-out lying to him. As he followed her into the clerical department of the Ministry, absolutely everyone stared at Draco. Several middle-age ladies exchanged significant looks. As he passed them, he could hear them whisper: "A pity, isn't it? Such a promising young man. Did 'outstanding' in most of his OWLs. Something terrible happened to him in the war, though. A shame, such a handsome boy unmarriageable."
Pansy led him through the desks and to a small office. A sixtyish woman looked up from her work. "Ah, here he is, our new errand boy. How are you today, Draco?" she said in the sort of voice one used for dogs and small childr

The drawing room was lovely. The illusion of falling snow was so realistic that the candlelight made the snowflakes sparkle. Unmelting icicles hung from the mantle of the fireplace. The Christmas tree was eighteen feet high, and fairies sat in its boughs, twinkling and preening whenever a human looked their way. The figures in the nativity scene that was displayed on a sidetable actually moved; Mary took her baby from the manger and showed him to the three Magi, who knelt down in homage.
The long table was covered by a white linen cloth embroidered in gold. Fat red candles had holly wound about their bases. Three people sat at one end of the table, silently eating their Christmas feast of roast goose with chestnut stuffing, Brussels sprouts, and roast potatoes. The soun

Draco walked jauntily down the street, his shopping basket swinging on his arm. He had all the makings for a perfect romantic dinner: oysters, champagne, and strawberries with chocolate for dipping. Draco and Harry had been dating for a couple of months now, and yesterday Harry had proposed becoming a couple. Draco, helpless before the Chosen One's good looks, had readily agreed. Hell's Captive - Chapter 2I awoke with a start as an unfamiliar thought flickered through my mind. 'Gallen's awake" But how would I-? My eyes shifted to my hand. Oh yeah.Hell's Captive - Chapter 2 in Introductions & Chapters More Like This
I rolled out of the soft, warm bed Gallen had been kind enough to give me. I yanked on some clean clothes and pulled my black hair into a short and spiky ponytail. I ran to the kitchen, which was a long way from my room. I never could figure out why Gallen loved living in mansions. The luxurious swirling of reds, golds, and whites somehow managed to make the large space look warm and inviting.
The kitchen was fully stocked with all of Gallen's favorite foods. Through the bond, I knew exactly what he wanted for breakfast. Two fried eggs, two slices of toast with raspberry jam, three slices of bacon, and chai tea with milk and sugar. I got to work and prayed he didn't call upon me while I was cooking.
I sensed his good mood. The young Lord had gotten plenty of sleep last night. I sighed in relief. His mood swings tended to be violent.
Lycan Pass - Chapter 2It seemed like the lifespan of the world had passed before I could even hear anything. My body throbbed, my head spun, my stomach churned. It felt as if someone had poured a hot bucket of agony all down my body. I let out a weak groan and attempted to open my eyes, but they were firmly swollen shut. There was a cold metal surface beneath me. For a second, I thought that I might have still be on the bus, but the distant murmur of voices cleared up that delusion. Footsteps clicked their way towards me.Lycan Pass - Chapter 2 in Introductions & Chapters More Like This
"I say we give her the virus," a male voice said.
"You're kidding me, right? If she hasn't got the gene, it'll kill her on the spot," said a second, deeper voice.
"Trevor, she's going to die anyway. Look at her. Not even the best doctor in the world could fix her. She's broken," The second man paused, obviously trying to make a decision.

I hate sunlight. I always have. It's way too bright and burns my eyes, especially on cloudless days like these. Strands of my shoulder-length thick black hair fall over my eyes. It helps some, but it not quite enough. I hiss at it as I push my pitch-dark sunglasses over my sockets that leave me almost totally blind as I sit in the passenger seat of my mother's Mercedes. My head rests lazily against the glass of the car door window, acting as if asleep as Mom drives me to school.
This town is like a regular rainforest. Being smack in the middle of the forest, the town is filled with mile-high trees and dozens of other exotic plants you could only see in a rainforest. A regular nature-lover's paradise.
In about five minutes, we finally make it to my two-story institute-looking school. I would know all about institutes.
My mother gently nudges my shoulder with her fingers, trying to wake me as if I was asleep, which I'm not, but with the pitch-black glasses, who could tell the difference?

After school, I usually take the bus. But today I ditch the bus full of screams and B.O. and decide to walk. It's a somewhat long travel from school to home, but I need to see what happened to Kevin today. It's unlike him to miss a day of school. Even on sick days, appointments, whatever, nothing would allow him to break his perfect attendance. So today, I decide to walk by his house to see why he was gone today.
His house is about four blocks away from the school house. I go around the back so I can view in through the backyard, where sure enough, that's just where he is. Kevin's is fairly big, at least compared to most of the dirt boxes around this town. Two stories and a lush, green, fenced in backyard with trimmed hedges, almost Home & Gardens Magazine-worthy.
Kevin is sitting on the edge of the hammock stuck in the ground about a yard away from the patio with the lawn chairs and a barbecue grill, his feet planted in the grass. He sits hunched over with his head held and a glum loo

Even on Halloween, people stay away. It's after eight and only a couple of kids have stopped by the house. Mom is out late at a costume party with all her coworkers from the bank, so I'm left doing candy duty. I sit in the recliner in the living room with a bowl of candy in my lap, fully dressed in my Dracula costume, popping Sweettart after Sweettart in my mouth while I watch The Exorcist on the TV. I already took my cape off an hour ago, leaving me in just my velvet pants and puffy white dress shirt. That little girl's face is so hideously mangled. Do people really look like that when they're possessed?
The doorbell rings, so I haul myself up out of the chair and walk over to the door, bowl in hand. I open it to see a Terminator standing on the Welcome mat, dressed in a black t-shirt and leather pants and boots with straps of hand grenades in a X over his chest and a plastic machine gun in his left hand and a brown paper shopping bag in the other.
"Trick or treat." he says in the wor

I usually wait a while to take my pill in the morning. I like to wait until I'm fully awake before I sedate myself all over again. But today, I took my meds as soon as I woke up. After what I saw, it was a necessity.
While I slept, I had the most frightening dream. I was in the middle of a room, and I was surrounded by shadows. At least, that's what they looked like. Normal shadows are two-dimensional and only appear on a surface, not as a solid three-dimensional figure standing in mid-air. They were all solid black, though their edges were faded, just like shadows, with the shape of a head on top of their square shoulders, and stood almost ten feet tall. They had no real bottoms to them. Instead of feet, they have transparent stumps hovering a couple inches above the ground. There seemed to be an infinite number of them, an endless army of shadows. They all moved in on me, closing in, their bodies gliding through the air. I tried to find some escape, but they successfully had me caged

"What's your problem?" the girl asks contemptuously.
"You know you really should stop bleaching your hair so much," I spit at her, gesturing to her hideously bright blonde head, "One of these days, it's all gonna fall out. And I wasn't talking to you."
"What's got your panties in a bunch Greyfield?" Bradley asks me in his usual cocky tone, not even bothering to defend his girl. Even with broken ribs the guy's a despicable little cretin.
"You," I almost growl, pointing a finger at his face, "Why the fuck did you lie about Kevin? Are you that big of a creep?"
"Hey, he knocked me down and fucked up my ribs!" he snaps, pointing to his side, "And now I can't play ball for weeks!"
"You're a fucking liar," I hiss through my teeth, glowering down at him, "He didn't ev
Dominion ch 6I can still remember my first year of preschool. I went in blue denim overalls, brand new tennis shoes that Mom still had to tie for me, and my hair combed nice and neat with a backpack full of crayons and a Sesame Street lunchbox. It was less than an hour before the teacher noticed me talking to myself, or at least that was what it seemed like. I had been sitting on the floor, playing with the little toy cars, but my eyes were looking up at the wall or the ceiling and talking to somebody that apparently nobody else could see. Of course my mother was concerned when the teacher told her about it when she came to pick me up at the end of the school day.Dominion ch 6 in Introductions & Chapters More Like This
"It's perfectly normal for a child his age to have an imaginary friend. Many kids that come through here do," the teacher, Mrs. Wied, told her, "He'll make some new friends, real friends, and he'll grow out of it. Just wait and see."Naturally I became pretty upset and threw quite the tantrum when Mrs. Wied, my mom, and my dad tried to say

I sleep in until almost noon, waking up from a long, peaceful sleep free of any nightmares, thanks to taking my little magic pills right before bed. I take another as soon as I get out of bed, just as a preventative measure.
Despite my foggy brain, I crawl out of bed and walk into the kitchen, not bothering to change out of my white t-shirt and boxers. I scratch my scalp through my shaggy bed hair, my long fingers getting tangled in the thick locks, as I peer into the fridge. I take out the container of orange juice and give it a couple good shakes, sloshing the pulpy liquid inside, before unscrewing the cap and gulping down a couple mouthfuls of juice. I dry my lips with the back of my fist before putting the carton back in the fridge.
Several greasy black strands fall over my eyes. I hold a few dark locks up between my fingers and look at them
