Bipolar Disorder is a medical illness that causes severe mood swings which are caused by a chemical imbalance in the brain. People who suffer from this illness lack the control mechanism that enables them to pull away from emotional situations and as such their lives may spiral out of control, through no fault of their own. The illness is very serious and very real and affects not only the sufferer, but their friends and family as well. There is still a lot of stigma attached to this disease, given that it is a mental illness to which very little is known about. It is incurable, but can be controlled by medication, diet and exercise. Most bipolar types are brilliant, creative, inspiring, loving, generous and caring individuals who contribute to making the world a better place, but all the while they struggle every day to survive.
