What is it about a fictional character first introduced to the public in Great Britain in 1887 that has kept him being reincarnated, with generationally-correct upgrades, over and over again in film and on television? When recently asked how his political candidate would explain certain positions taken during the

replied that stated political positions were “like an Etch A Sketch,”—meaning they could simply be
flipped over, erased and begun over from scratch.

me wonder how many of us had early experiences as “sketch artists” with that incredible red toy that
has become almost standard issue for so many children still to this day.

There is no cosmic law that states artists must suffer many long years and demeaning day-jobs before a window of opportunity cracks open just enough to hop on through.
Fellow deviant Brian Kesinger is a case in point.

Brian stayed at Disney and he considers every day there a part of his ongoing education as an artist. He most recent
Why Authors Kill Off CharactersI can actually answer this question, at least for myself. Coming from the perspective of a hopefully-soon-tobe-published author, I think killing off main characters is a sign of maturity as a writer. When authors coddle their characters and give them whatever they want, the end result is often spoiled, hard-to-relate-to characters who get happy endings handed to them on a silver platter. Take Twilight, for example. In all four 400-600 page novels, not one pivotal "good" character dies. And what are we left with? Little character development, no themes or lessons to be learned, and the acute feeling that the books were more like fairytales with all the characters skipping off into the sunset hand-in-hand. Admit it: you remember a book that made you cry more than a book that made you smile. Every classic novel that has withstood the test of time features some sort of death, agony, suffering or all of the above. Suffering builds character. And sometimes, killing a character is necessary fWhy Authors Kill Off Characters in Personal More Like This

It's 1961, and to support herself and prepare for nursing school the subsequent fall, eighteen-year-old Holly Halliburton becomes a member of a very peculiar agency. They are called "The League of Bedside Sympathizers", or at least that is their official title, though nobody seems to know what it means nor where it originated. Her job? To provide solace and smooth the transition between life and death for hospital patients who have no living or reachable kin. Having successfully undergone four separate "transitions", serious, soft-spoken Holly feels as though she is prepared for anything the agency throws her way. That is, until she is thrust to the bedside of Simon Dalaigh, a melancholy, spirited and blunt young man dying from acute Cystic Fibrosis of the lungs. Their unusual circumstances eventually throw them together int
Getting rid of love triangle in PS's first halfI feel like it's too cliche, and might give people the impression that Sara is super beautiful and lovely and alluring to the opposite sex, which is obviously untrue. So, Sara and Saul's relationship will basically be platonic for most of the book until the end, which will signify how different they are after the war. Benjamin and Saul end up reconciling their petulant squabble instead of pouting like two pouty man-children, and instead of Saul and Sara's fighting being centered around the kiss, which seems, looking back, very immature, childish and predictable, it's going to be around:Getting rid of love triangle in PS's first half in Personal More Like This
1. The fact that Sara refuses to back down from arguments
2. Her inability to listen and empathize
3. Saul's inability to accept responsibility and apologize
4. Their socio-economic differences and how this affects their futures:

"leaving him behind" for a cultured, well-traveled adult life.

EncouragementWhen I started out on DeviantArt, I used to be one of those artists that thought I could never do art properly.Encouragement in Deviant Events More Like This
I'll start saying that I spend most of my childhood getting only little encouragement.
My parents were, like many other parents, convinced that art wasn't that much of a useful skill since it's nearly impossible to earn money with -- and would've liked it if I spend my time doing something more useful instead. At school I was that pathetic kid without friends. Creative, yet very introverted. The one that gets bullied in the schoolyard. Needless to say; it was rare to find people saying something nice about me, and it was even more rare to find someone actually encouraging me.
Back then, I used to believe that I was alone. I initially signed up to DeviantArt to find people with similar interests. But it happened to change my mind along the way. When I came into contact with other artists, I came to realize that there were in fact many people just like me. People th

Socially AwkwardI like the internet, but I acknowledge that it's not perfect. The ability for everyone to be the invisible man allows for a lot of injustice, bullying, harassment, and stalking to take place. This is slowly starting to change, however, thanks to every website gradually forcing people to link to their facebook (or other social media equivalent) accounts. No one wants to lose their personal social outlets as a result of the stuff they were doing elsewhere on the web, if you know what I mean. About 3 years ago now I applied on a whim for a position to join the Square Enix Visual Works team in Japan. I expected not to hear anything back. I applied with a nice letter, a link to my folio and a 'top secret' link to copious amounts of NDA work.
I was blown away to get a personal response about 2 or 3 days later from one of the Art Directors on the team.
It was very blunt and very straight forward. He told me that I had a very unique style and that my artwork was great, He loved the heavy, solid feel and saturated colors but he had reservations about how far I could push it towards realtime cinematic work. The exact words he used to describe it was " Imagine an offline rendered character that we see today, we need to see that, modelled and textured in a stylised, fantastical final fantasy way but for use in realtime applications." He went further on to say "The stylisation is in design choices, not materials, which are to be very
