I don't know the first thing about designing t-shirts but I really wanted to try it...
It's basically what deviantART means to me: a place where artists can get inspired and (hopefully) inspire others. (:

Photoshop

edit: The one in the right was the original design. I chose a simpler version for the contest.

I figure I would submit this version too, doesn't hurt my chances.

Anyways, the initial sketch for my Splice contest entry. Defiantly tightened a few areas to make it more believable, but I like the surreal aspect to this guy.

Anyways, my other entry is here: [link]

Hope you all enjoy! :D

Specimen: RK-2181 (AKA Rat Killer)
Habitat: Urban and suburban sewers
Food: Rodents, including rats, bats, and mice.
Size 1-1.6m (3.25 -5.25 ft); 30-80kg (66-175 lb).
Breeding: Sterile.
Status: Rare; only a few are released based on rodent census
Life Span: 3 years.

Due to the increase in population and urban development, pest population, including rats, mice, and roaches, has also also increased. The Unites States government has looked into experimental DNA splicing to help combat the infestation. Combining the DNA of moles, various bird species (including turkeys, herons, and cassowary's), venomous snakes, and cephalopods, scientists have created a creature well adapted to hunting rodents in dark, damp, and putrid sewers.

Quick synopsis:

Mole DNA: Adaptation to darkness, extraordinary sense of smell, blindness, high metabolism, ravage appetite.

Bird DNA: Body structure, including shape, size, and weight.

Cephalopod DNA: Unique appendage which is seen on squids and cuttle fish; acts like a frog's or chameleon's tongue.

Snake DNA: Paralyzing venom that ejects from the spine of the tentacle; also has heat pits to sense warm blooded animals.

My entry for the contest, which took too long to finish. That's alright, I defiantly am happy with the result.

Hope you all enjoy! :D

First thing I saw when I first saw the scribble I was working with, which shows how uncreative I am. I mean really, another creature/monster/ fish thing? How original!

Anyways, I had fun with this in the 5 hours it took me to finish, and it was entirely inspired by Shark Week (although it looks nothing like one, ha ha). The goal was to explore values among weird shapes and not create a believable creature by any means; however, I still need work on both fields.

Just in case for those who can't see it, the scribble lines define some of the head and features of the gills/fins to the bottom right; I left them pretty obvious for people to see (even though it butchers it :<).

Anyways, I hope everyone enjoys, Happy Birthday DA, and thanks for looking! :D

SlashTHREE exhibition 12: Steampunk

Steampipelines from Earth to Mars.
Once upon a time the people from Earth found out that mysteriously enough steam is the best element to transport energy.
In order to connect the self-expanding pipes with outer space, humans had to build up barriers around their planet with machines which create an artificial atmosphere and clouds. That's the glass bulb you can see around the surface. ;)
The Centre of Power in this image of course is the garden of Eden, our planet Earth.

Sequel:

All my resources here:
The pipelines are overpainted photos of the tubes in our cellar. The planet texture is an highly manipulated earth texture and all the other stuff is painted.

This image is quite a step-up for me since it is the first time I actually worked with perspectives and I only used my own stuff for this. Hope you like it, and thanks a lot for your support!

Testament of the Majestic Beast

SlashTHREE exhibition 12: Steampunk

This is a quite quick matte painting I did as a sequel to "Glampunk Spacepipes". About 8 hours of work and everything done with Photoshop and my Wacom Bamboo.

plate: [link]
before-after:

Story: Steampipelines from Earth to Mars.
Once upon a time the people from Earth found out that mysteriously enough steam is the best element to transport energy.

In order to connect the steam pipelines with outer space humans had to build giant atmosphere emitters to create an artificial atmosphere. The new technology doesn't work as they would like it to. At places where the selfexpanding pipes break through Earth's atmosphere, huge ozone holes cause an incredibly hot and dangerous environment. All life slowly fades away due to too hot machines which produce an unfavourable oxygen content in the air, while anomalous hurricanes and lightning turn the dilemma into an irreversible process.

Thank you guys for all the favs and comments, I appreciate it! :)

This is an update of an old piece I made back in 2008. The update is quite huge and I actually like how it turned out, that's why I figured why not submit this as a new deviation?

Anyways, I'm incredibly busy due to uni stuff lately, so I hardly have time to create something. It's exhausting. .____.'

For the deviantart Merrel Diaroma contest: [link]
I originally made the deviation like this: [link] with more photos. but i found out i was only allowed to use 4 pics, so i fixed that now D:

The tree and people can be taken off and the box can be closed if it was to be sent :)
the pen in the fourth picture was only put there to show you the size of the sculptures.

-I made the owl, squirl, people, swan, waterlilys and mushrooms out of something called Fimo (polymerclay?), and painted it afterwards :)
-The tree is made of paperclay and metalstrings.
-The leaves is cut out from painted paper.
-The water was coated with varnish/laquer and nailpolish (dont know which word in english is right xD)
-the hair to the people is made of yarn, and their hats is made of some type of cloth :)
-the rocks are made of rocks.. xD

wish me luck in the contest O.o (gonna need it)

I've been wanting to experiment with a paper cut style for a while, and this Minion contest seemed like a good excuse to do so. You could hardly find for a more simple character design.

The bandits had long sought to steal the great swordsman's nuts. The nuts were so grand, in both size and luster, they became famous even beyond the grove. In a forest full of dry and shriveled nuts, they were truly a sight to behold. As individuals, the thieves always failed to lay hand on them. The Blade Master was far too swift, too keen and alert. Now, as Winter nears, the bandits have joined together in a desperate attempt to obtain the precious nuts.
