Wii U Launch TitlesRemember when the Wii launched in 2006 with just a gamecube port of Zelda, a horribly broken Red Steel, and a handful of party games? That's not gonna happen with the Wii U. Along with the recent announcement of Bayonetta 2 being a Wii U exclusive title, Nintendo has just announced that there will be a staggering 23 games available on launch day. While many of the titles are ports of other games, there are still a huge selection of titles that I, a gamer who doesn't have access to a Ps3 or 360, would really enjoy being able to play finally.Wii U Launch Titles in Personal More Like This

Say what you will about Anita Sarkeesian, you gotta admit that people do take note of what she says for good or ill. In this piece of news, it's for the good.
As you might already know, in her latest video she outlined a simple "damsel frees herself" video game. Nothing too spectacular but it showcased how one can subvert the typical trope and make a strong female character out of it. While many were quick to criticize her for not making the game herself (given her kickstarter success), others took a more direct approach and actually made a game in 2 weeks.
The game is called "Sorry Mario Bros," and the plot is that Princess Peach decides to rescues herself by leaving Bowser's castle in world 8-4. You progress right to left through familiar, but slightly altered, original Mario Bros. worlds working your way backwards towards world 1-1. Along the way you can take detours and use Peach's float ability to reach hidden areas and collect "princess coins."

I'll be honest. I wasn't expecting the backlash to be so violent. But I guess I should expect this sort of thing whenever it comes to video games. At any rate, a lot of stuff is being thrown around haphazardly and I wanted to address some of the main complaints/defenses about my criticism of Quiet's design.
"She's got camo skin! She's dressed this way for a reason!"
You know, you can come up with any number of reasons for a character to be scantly clad. But at the end of the day it's still a scantly clad conventionally attractive female character. Not to put to fine a point on it but having Mystique walk around naked because her skin changes color doesn't stop her from being a source of obvious pandering T&A. So I'm sorry, but that whole "you'll be ashamed for slut-shaming her" excuse doesn't hold water with me, especially after Kojima outright said that her design was to sell
Winnie The Pooh 2011 Movie ReviewTo be honest I was rather underwelmed by this movie, which is disappointing because I had such high hopes for it. To be fair it's a perfectly good movie, above average in a lot of ways... but since it was framed as a sequel to the original 1970's Pooh, I felt that overall it was lacking something.Winnie The Pooh 2011 Movie Review in Personal More Like This
This is the hardest part to explain. I don't know what exactly didn't catch me the same way other Pooh related stuff has in the past. Even the 1980's TV show "Many Adventures of Winnie the Pooh" felt more connected to the original movie than this one did.
Part of it is probably the animation. While Disney animation is always phenomenal, as they are one of THE best animation studio in the whole world... something about this movie felt very... cheap to me. Some of the animation felt very floaty to me, an issue I have only previously encountered with Dreamworks.
There were a lot of sight gags that flash by pretty quickly too. I remember reading that they wanted to "modernize" Pooh for
Nintendo STEALS Money!Since this has been going around lately, I should probably give my two cents. Basically what it amounts to is that Nintendo has filed Content ID info of their games with YouTube. What this means is that if you upload gameplay video of a Nintendo game, YouTube will automatically monetize that video, put ads on it, a link to where to buy the game, and take the money generated from that video and give it directly to Nintendo. People who do "let's play" videos are, naturally, pissed off because they want to be earning money off their videos, so they're calling Nintendo "thieves" for doing this.Nintendo STEALS Money! in Personal More Like This
I can see both sides to the story. I can see Nintendo as a corporation wanting to exercise control over their properties. On the other hand, "let's play" videos can often help new gamers find games they otherwise wouldn't have tried.
But here's the thing: Nintendo isn't the first company do this. Both Microsoft and Ubisoft do it already. YouTube has also had a long history of having music videos and
E3, Kickstarter, laptops, memes, and more!About E3 DisappointmentE3, Kickstarter, laptops, memes, and more! in Personal More Like This
We go through this every year, but it never seems to sink in. E3 is a trade show, not a fanboy convention. E3 is about the respective companies getting up on stage and showcasing their plans for the future and the products that will continue to make their investors money. E3 isn't even open to the public, yet every single year it's the same old dance of fans complaining "why wasn't ____ shown?"
The people who follow E3 coverage need to remember that they are not the actual target audience of the convention. Yes, you and I probably don't care about casual games and want more info on hardcore titles, but their investors want to know about them because they know it's going to make them oodles of money. Also, to be fair, you don't need big lavish presentations of huge blockbuster titles to know whether or not you're gonna buy them. That's why most of the companies only give a glimpse of them because they're always huge sellers anyway, they don't need to remin
Harley Quinn Part 2There's been a LOT of talk about this contest. http://www.dccomics.com/node/305151 Most of it negative, some of it positive, and some of it trying VERY hard to justify it. I've already said my peace about it in 3 consecutive comics which you can read here:Harley Quinn Part 2 in Personal More Like This
But outside that there's still a lot of debate going on and I wanted to touch upon it. First up, there were a lot of people trying to justify "why" she was committing suicide. A lot of these people suggested things like "she's a crazy character and she's unstable so of course she would do something like this" or "she'd probably do this if the joker left her." And while those people DO have a point... all of it is rendered null and void when the creators of the contest come right out and say that the point of these attempted suicides was a tongue-in-cheek gag at the awful shit they were gonna put Harley through. As in, she sees what they're gonna write a

Despite the increase in activity from me here on DA recently, I'm not entirely "back" in the normal sense of the word. I'm kinda just tip-toeing the waters to see if things have calmed a bit. I'm still trying to get through my issues, with mixed success, and a two month leave of absence isn't going to undo years of stress buildup and stubbornness. But I'm working on it, slowly but surely. You might see some new work here or there, but I don't think I'm ready yet to jump back into doing any of my longer narratives.
In fact, judging by my recent comic's reception, I probably am not ready for a full fledged return just yet...

There's just too much entitlement from people on the internet who think they "deserve" everything, and it's really beginning to creep me out. Nintendo Direct unveiled a bunch of big announcements the other day, the highlights being a HD remake of Wind Waker, announcement of a new Zelda, a new Yoshi's Story game, a new 3D Mario game, a new Mario Kart game, and a new Smash Bros game to be unveiled at E3 this year. Other info like a possible sequel to Xenoblades, updates on Bayonetta 2, and a forthcoming WiiU firmware update that'll alleviate some of the sluggish load times and unlock the Virtual Console (as well as the announcement that Gamecube games and GBA games will be possibly sold in the eShop).
Quite a lot of info, but here's my question. Why is everyone surprised at it? I've lived through every console generation with Nintendo and I can honestly say, a lot of this wasn't really a surprise to me. Like, yeah of course they're gonna make a new Smash Bros, Mario Kart, and 3D Mario game. It's friggin' Nintendo. Why is that a surprise? It's not like those are second tier franchises like Metro

Masterful storytelling is about suspending disbelief.
One would think the most important element of a story being told is the events being depicted. Belief in these events, however, is a prerequisite to appreciation. Picture this: watching Anna Karenina in the theater, you’re riveted to the epic tale of doomed lovers. Your friend, a history professor with a fetish for details, laughs at random moments. He was quite tipsy. I am not a smoker, but we were having a smoke together and chatting about music. Everyone at the event had gotten quite drunk (well, not me, I don't drink), and at a certain buzz level everyone had to go smoke. I wanted to hang with all the drunk European smokers and young kids.
As we were talking his daughter came over. She was overweight, and wearing a short clingy dress that left nothing to the imagination.
She wanted to know where they were sitting for the event. Well, Dad couldn't find the card. He was shoveling through all the pockets in his well-worn coat, and she offered to help. I offered to hold his beer.

CharismaI just read this and I think it is so true:Charisma in Personal More Like This
Here are the 10 habits of remarkably charismatic people:
1. They listen way more than they talk.
Ask questions. Maintain eye contact. Smile. Frown. Nod. Respond--not so much verbally, but nonverbally.
That's all it takes to show the other person they're important.
Then when you do speak, don't offer advice unless you're asked. Listening shows you care a lot more than offering advice, because when you offer advice in most cases you make the conversation about you, not them.
Don't believe me? Who is "Here's what I would do..." about: you or the other person?
Only speak when you have something important to say--and always define important as what matters to the other person, not to you.
2. They don't practice selective hearing.
Some people--I guarantee you know people like this--are incapable of hearing anything said by the people they feel are somehow beneath them.
Sure, you speak to them, but that particular falling tree doesn't make a sound i

Q: How can I get a job in animation?
The absolute best thing you can do to get into animation as a career is to go to art school. Not only will you learn how to draw and how to SEE, you will meet people, students and teachers alike, who will give you new perspectives and will likely be the sources of your future jobs. (My first job came from one of my teachers.)
There are several schools that have fantastic animation programs that cover all facets of the atr form. Schools like the one I attended, CALIFORNIA INSTITUTE OF THE ARTS, will teach you animation (2D and 3D,) character design, storyboarding, bac

Saturday mornings are super again. Harkening back to the glory days the 1970s and '80s when kids got their weekends going with Super Friends and School House Rock, Cartoon Network is launching DC Nation, a programming block that showcases the heroes of the DC Comics library. Anchoring the hour will be the CGI show Green Lantern: The Animated Series (10am/9c) and the continuation of the first season of Young Justice (10:30am/9:30c). Scattered Throughout the hour are animated shorts and interstitials with news and vignettes from around the DC universe.
Though some of the shorts feature big names like Superman and Batman, many will put the spotlight on "characters we've always wanted to see animated, but that might not be able to support a whole series," says Peter Giardi, senior vice president at Warner Bros. Let's just go over what I posted yesterday: I voiced that I have no opinion on guns in America, because I don't live there and as such; don't care. I said that I, personally, am afraid of guns and think they're industrial killing machines. And I posed a vague, hypothetical question that could have been applied to any situation where an old law/doctrine is in effect.
That's it. Nothing more. Harshest word in there was "change" followed by a question mark. Not "ban", not "make guns illegal" and certainly not "outlaw free speech and trial by jury", which some people with a slightly looser grasp on reality seem to think go hand in hand with owning the firearms I said I don't care about.
Well, today, I am going to post an opinion: if you're the kind of insecure, paranoid little twit that flies off the handle when someone poses a simple question, and who holds weapons and the laws that permit them with such religious reverence that you perceive that question as not

Infinite B.S.Well, my favourite aspect of Bioshock Infinite so far* is that it keeps up the series tradition of never returning you to the game where you left it.Infinite B.S. in Personal More Like This
In most other titles, you press "continue" on the main menu and you're taken back to where you logged off, or, at the very least, in that general area. Not so with the Bioshock games. Nooo. None of that player-friendly nonsense here. And "Infinite B.S." takes it one step further and sometimes doesn't even record chapters you've passed through, thus forcing you to replay them again! Yes, that "Autosave" logo is clearly just decorative.
They've also kindly removed the ability to manually save, just to keep you in that perpetual state of uncertainty as to whether or not you're going to have to repeat everything you've just done when you next return to the game. Because, of course, being forced to replay the same section of story twice, or three times in a row just makes the game so much more memorable, doesn't it?

Evil Dead RemakeIf an original film has a splendid core concept, but a budget too low or a director too inept to do it justice, I don't mind a remake. I'll applaud it.Evil Dead Remake in Personal More Like This
The most toxic remake thus far has been "Total Recall", which was terrible simply because it used the original as a crutch at more than a few points and, despite having a massive budget and 20 years of technological advancement on the original: felt less exciting and epic.
Closer to the book, sure, but just not as much fun.
And now they've turned their gaze upon "Evil Dead".
Now, I'm not going to try and defend the original Evil Dead, because it's not actually that great a film. This is proven with "Evil Dead 2", in which the entirety of the preceding movie's plot and purpose is successfully reduced to an opening act. Something that wouldn't have been possible were the movie, y'know; good.
"Evil Dead 2" is awesome. It's called a "cult classic" for a reason, and, in my eyes, should have rendered the whole franchise "sacred", meaning you

Silent Hill: RevelationWow. And I thought the first Silent Hill film missed the point.Silent Hill: Revelation in Personal More Like This
I was surprised that a sequel was made at all, given the rather poor narrative (and acting. That kid was almost as bad as the brat from Phantom Menace) of the first movie, but in comparison with Revelation, it was positively Shakespearian.
If there's a third film in the franchise, I'll be amazed (to a point. We have had, what is it, 5 Resident Evil films, now?)
How hard is it to wrap your head around the concept, Film-Makers? Silent Hill has no face, it has no agenda, it's just an evil f**king mirror that reflects your personal demons. It's the perfect vehicle to use different actors to tell different stories with each and every film. It's potentially the James Bond of horror set-ups. Play it right and you could get 50 films out of it, easy.
You devolve it into a generic, fun-fair, ghost-train and you're pissing away the concept with such force you blow a hole in the lavatory wall.
Lara's Adventure on QTE Island. For how many more years am I going to have to put up with new titles pretending that: a cutscene, which you have to watch again and again if you don't press a button at the right time, constitutes as "gameplay"?Lara's Adventure on QTE Island. in Personal More Like This
It never has and never will.
It doesn't make a game more cinematic. It doesn't add a sense of thrill. It simply makes viewers (I can't call them "players", as that would imply they are actually permitted to DO something) dread cutscenes, because they have no idea if they're going to be allowed to enjoy them or if they're going to have to watch them 5 times in a row because they fail to hit the random sequence of buttons indicated on the screen.
A game is thrilling ONLY when the player uses the control scheme effectively within the game environment. If the game needs to take control away from the player and lead them by the nose through a cutscene, it's been lazily constructed and as a result: isn't fun.
If you are a games designer and you have proposed a Quick Time

A Note About The Flaming Pony.Hi hi everypony!A Note About The Flaming Pony. in Personal More Like This
So, I get asked a lot of the same questions, as I'm sure you can all imagine, and sometimes I can answer them and sometimes I can't. Lately I've been getting asked about Wild Fire and why she was changed in one of the last episodes, if we'll ever see her again, and how she came to be in the first place.
Her first appearance in the Canterlot Wedding ep, wasn't much of an exciting story (none of this really is). After seeing the cleaned up storyboard (which I believe that section was drawn by fellow board artist Marshall), I noticed that the one pony he drew looked almost like Wild Fire. For shoots and giggles, I went to our art director and simply just asked if we could try and make it WF. And it worked. She was approved as a "board pull" design. It was as simple as that.
While work had begun on season 3, I was approached by my good friend Wootie (and co-director) asking if it was okay to use WF as a Wonderbolt Cadet for the 307 episode. They needed a few more designs,

There were lots of hard nights and long hours from all of us on the DHX crew to make it the best would possibly could. Of course, there are things that are always going to be imperfect, but overall from what I gather, it seemed well-received.
I was also shocked at how many people recognized my OC pony that made a small cameo in this weekend's episode. As a blanket response to a lot of the same questions I've been getting all weekend: No, I did not voice her and I'm unsure as to who did. I would assume just one of the regular VA's. She was put in kind of last minute. The artist who drew her in the storyboard, made her look like my pony (just a coincidence), and after seeing i

Lately I keep getting asked the same questions it seems over and over again, so I'm just gunna make a quick journal to "blanket" address some of these concerns.
I know there have been rumours floating around about certain show specific details, and I know people are confused and troubled...but you have to remember that I'm under contract and I'm not allowed to talk about ANY of this stuff. Just like everyone else, you'll have to just wait and see how everything plays out and just enjoy the show as it's aired. So please, save your time (and mine!) and don't bother pm'ing me about this stuff, because I'm just going to have to ignore it (which I hate and seems rude) or respond with what I've just said above!
So yeah, please remember that I have to stay tight-lipped about everything pretty much...it's the rules!

I want you all to know that I have read every single message you have sent, but naturally due to the magnitude, there is no way I could write back to everyone. So I just want to say thanks here...again, to everyone on dA, everyone on EqD, the Vancouver Brony group, and to all my other friends who made me feel so special on my birthday.
My birthday is now over...so please...no more messages!...lol
I think :iconLapis-Lazily: had it right with this comic: http://lapis-lazily.deviantart.com/art/Sibsy-s-Birthday-Fanmail-304229067
