The Dark Age of EquestriaThe Dark Age of Equestria:The Dark Age of Equestria in Free Verse More Like This
Long ago, when the stars were still young
The kingdom of Equestria burned in the fires of unholy war
For the Earth ponies, opressed by the noble unicorns
turned to the darker forces for aid and assistance
It began with a young Earth Pony, Rosenheart
Who was told by the Unicorns to pay her taxes on time
The Pegasi were sent to enforce this and she refused
"The taxes are too high!" she pleaded
sweat trickling down her face
"I cannot pay these taxes or my babies will starve!"
but the Pegasi cared not and simply took what they came for
They left her home a broken and cold place...
In desperation, she begged to the shadows that lurked around her
she asked them to help her and for this she would pay
she would pay any price that they asked
but the price they asked for was terrible indeed...

He was not like everypony else, instead he was something more
His eyes glowed red, like burning rubies

VinashukaThe cloud that forms above the burning wastesVinashuka in Free Verse More Like This
Hints to many that the dying world breathes.
Beneath the empty morrow that holds the shattered
glass, I see myself whispering 'Vinashuka'.
Cold muttered voices tonguing the edge of my sanity
The creeping walls denote the loss of my inner being
Lick the paper that cuts the tongue into a myriad
of pieces and once again whisper 'Vinashuka'.
But my words will fall on deaf ears and I'm tempted
to once again open myself for torture. For perhaps
the endless grief with which I give myself meaning
will form into the bloodied words of 'Vinashuka'.
This single whispered temptation, a solitary lie
amongst thousands of truths, a comforting security
that tells me I'm alive-
Is simple called 'Vinashuka'.
Now I feel like biting this flopping tongue
This worthless condemnation of meat and drool!
It gibbers endlessly and drives me to madness
A madness known as 'Vinashuka'

a horror beginning its birth. The serpent will slither
into a moistened cave and the blood will spill from broken lips
The secret was hidden beneath the trees, where the lovers
were kissed and never told. Yet the stains remain upon the grass.
Never to be erased...
How many times will I return, to a place I wish
I'd never see. Perhaps it is a way for me
To think of that which I regret...
But the man would never remind himself, of the horror
unleashed beneath falling leaves. The petals bear witness
to the struggled screaming, muffled by hands and feet.
A choking embodiment of sweat and tears and the final
release of a beating heart. The act is done and motion
has stopped, so now the vomiting begins...
An act of purity, to cleanse and expunge. It is
made to deny the gnawing guilt, for all that remains
is plain to see: a puddle of red on a sea of green.

The roaring wind was quick to die
As the fog began to form.
Silence soon surrounded us
Like a calm before the storm.
In the darkest distance; against the light
I could hear a haunting melody.
It seemed to sound like a Siren's call
Coming from across the sea.
Immediately my crew reacted
As we dove beneath the deck.
Wool and wax to plug the ears
And ropes to tie me back.
As a Captain of this Pirate ship
My duty was plain to see.
Tied to the mast as a sacrifice
Was where I soon would be.
For one alone must endure the call
Else the Siren would not sing.
This had been a long tradition
Since the time of the Pirate King.
A swig of rum would steel the soul;
With a prayer of mercy from the crew.
Left alone upon the deck
It was like a private dinner for two.
'Come with me, my little sailor,'
Her voice did whisper in my mind
'I alone will give you pleasure,
For I alone am kind...'
Indeed she was an enchanting creature

There are no words to capture grief, nor the mourning in our hearts
I never thought that we were meant to be easily torn apart...

We wish we could have taught you, about the flowers in the spring
We wish we could have showed you, the homes of our kin...
We wish we could have loved you, and watched you fly away
But in this cold and clammy cave is where you have to stay
We'll lay you down to rest for now, so just dream of better times

In search of a less-obstructed view, he leapt down softly from his perch on the tree branch and onto the pond below, the still water freezing instantly beneath his feet, a thin layer of swirling ice sprouting from wherever he stepped.
His search proving fruitless, he shrugged and turned around, a quick bout of Winter wind lifting him from his place on the water and setting him down on the nearby land.
It was his eyes playing tricks, after all.
A subtle change in the air brought a smile to his face. He knew what that change was. He could just feel the clouds forming in the atmosphere, see all of the new patterns for snowflakes in his mind’s eye. It was already Spring, the pond no longer capable of remaining frozen and what little snow was left dotting the earth’s face like strange li

A hallway and a pair of automatic sliding doors later, Jack found himself standing on an elevated walkway, the wall to his right giving way to a giant window.
Once again, he found himself in pure shock. He nearly dropped his staff.
He definitely wasn’t on Earth anymore.
Because there it was, its blue-and-green face staring right at him from beyond the glass, nothing but a black void and distant stars as its backdrop.
He was in space. And this. This…place he was in. It was a space ship. And those metal men.
To add to the situation, he had no idea what point in time that The Doctor had stuck him in.
Jack could feel his head swimming. He had to hold onto a nearby railing to prevent himself from losing balance. It didn’t help that was still recovering from the electrocution.

“Your efforts are useless, Doctor. The future cannot be prevented this time,” continued the CyberLeader, unfazed by the Doctor’s banter. “We have predicted every possible route you could take. You will not hinder us this time. You have walked right into our trap.” It seemed like he didn’t even realize Jack was there. Or, if he did, he chose not to acknowledge him.
“Oh, a trap, eh?” He leaned on the broken weapon, crossing one ankle over the other. “Well, you didn’t predict everything, my thickly metal-headed friend. Take a gander at her. Bit quiet, don’t you think?”

Without any hesitation, you flushed the toilet's contents and rinsed your mouth as quickly as possible under the sink water. Jack awkwardly stood there, watching you with dull eyes. After cleaning yourself a bit, you spun around to face him.
"What do you think you're doing?! HIDE, FOR PETE'S SAKE!" You weakly pushed him towards the shower curtain. The footsteps were getting closer by the second.
"Uh, _________ I don't think I have to-"
"Shut up and hide! They might see you!"
"NOW!" You hissed while shoving him inside the tub and hiding him with the curtains. At that moment, your mother and father burst into the bathroom. Surprised, you flashed a small smile at them and waved your hand.
They shot a few suspicious glances around the room and sighed.

You weren't even sure what a Guardian was in the first place. But it seemed important. So you ceased asking any further questions and followed North down another narrow hallway. This place looked huge! On the outside it seemed much smaller, but this was Santa's home so a part of you wasn't that surprised.
As you were about to ask where he was taking you, he finally took a halt near a door larger than the ones surrounding it. You turned to Jack who had his hands resting in his hoodie, looking around like he hasn't been here in a very long time. He looked so casual.
"Ahh, here vee are!" North hollered while gripping the golden door knob.
"Oh you're gonna love this..." smirked Jack under his breathe. You suddenly grew even more nervous and felt your knees become weak.
The heavy wooden door opened wide, giving you a full view of another living room. But this one seemed more of the living room you'd find in a normal home. Smaller and cozier than the other massive one you had j

You rubbed your eyes which were all stuck together and looked around.Jack wasn't by your side anymore, you were just sleeping on a pillow that he must of slipped under your head to not wake you up.
You peeked out your window. It was already dark. You looked at the clock hanging from the wall in front of you. The time read 11:34 PM.
"11:34 PM ?!" you practically shouted as you fell off the couch.
As you were getting up, you noticed something different about your house. It was...clean.
You looked around the room.Yes,you weren't dreaming! The pillows were all nicely fluffed on the other sofas. The floor had been swept, since you could see your reflection into it. The windows were no longer dusty, the kitchen had been cleaned up and...the books on the wooden shelf were in alphabetical order.

Within a few minutes Emma found herself sitting in a rather large room next to Jack. He was locked in a conversation with Santa, or ‘North’, sitting crossed legged on a tall stool, and she sat on a smaller stool on his left side. Since he was dong all the talking and she didn’t really have any clue what to do, she just looked around the room. Well, half of it was a room. The other half was more like a cave, carved into the ice mountain.
Candles sat in notches on the icy walls, making the chamber seem like it was glowing. A large window sat at the back of the room, but all that was visible was the white snowstorm. Clear toys sat where scattered about randomly: Fire-trucks, cranes, cars, planes, and many other different playthings she didn’t know the names of.
There was something about the room she couldn’t quite put her finger on though. She felt so cozy next to the fire, and so safe even though the window showed the turmoil going on outside

He looked over, expecting to see her dreaming form. But he was surprised to see that the couch was empty, and she was nowhere in sight.
His eyes widened and he stood. Had she gotten up already for breakfast? She normally waited for him and they would race there together.

Do I really want to go on the expedition the day after tomorrow when I haven't done anything to make myself happy? You sighed at these thoughts, opening your eyes to watch the sun fall down. You heard a twig snap un

"Right, that seems to be the last of 'em!" The brunette called, setting the large cardboard box down onto the un-sturdy table that rocked back and forth with its uneven legs. Taking a deep breath, you looked around the large undecorated room with your hands on your hips. The walls were brick, and there were a few thick wooden poles going through the ceiling down into the floor. Although the studio apartment was empty, it was fascinating to you, especially since the excitement of decorating the place was bubbling in your stomach.
"Thank you so much for getting me this place, Eren," you said with a broad smile, turning to meet his bright green eyes.
He grinned in return, leaning on you by resting his elbow on your shoulder. Eren had been your best friend for a long time, and the both of you had been like brother and sister. "No problem. Besides, I'll be in the room next to yours so we can be nerds and watch movies all night," he said.
You let out a laugh and nudged him softly. "Well I ca

“Aren’t you cold already?” My best friend, Stephanie asked. “You sure you should be drinking ice-water? It is winter after all.”
“Nah. I’m fine, Steph.” I assured her.
Out of the corner of my eye, I saw her stick out her lip.
“Still thirsty.” I said, my eyes on the glass that had the last drop of water flowing down towards my mouth. Stephanie sighed, crossing her arms. She soon gave up, however, and locked her arm in mine.
“Geez your arm is burning up!” She said, lifting her hand to feel my forehead. “Your forehead’s burnin’ up too!” She said, frowning. “Go home right now and take a long nap!” She demanded.
“Yes, Mother.” I teased, rolling my eyes.

After I pushed the front door of my house closed, I leaned against the door, letting the air in my cheeks slowly rush out. My realization of how dangerous that actually was, was starting to sink in and I slowly slid down the door onto the floor.
After staring straight ahead for a few minutes, I let out a heavy sigh and started to pull myself up. I took off my shoes and set them in the mudroom. And with my socks on, I slid down the wooden hallway, the sudden rush of air making my brown hair go flying outwards.
I felt like I was still being watched, and after I slid into the kitchen, I began to look around.
“This is silly.” I muttered. “There’s no way anyone is here. So just shake this stupid feeling off, Elizabeth.” I tried to assure myself.
Still feeling rather uneasy, I took out my phone, flipped it open again, and called my friend. I sat down on my squeaky bead, and started to turn and lay down, when she answered. She gave a rather welcoming gr

I had a very long day at my current job, being a waitress. I was so tired when Stephanie called, saying she was taking Jamie to the park and if I wanted to meet them there, so I grabbed my coat, rushing out the door.
Stephanie and Jamie were talking on a tree stump when I got there. They both brightened up.
“Hey there! I’m gonna go find a picnic table. Man, a lot of people are here, I hope there’s some left. Will you two stay here?” Stephanie asked.
I knew what she was really asking – if I could watch him while she was getting lunch ready. I smiled and nodded.
“Yeah. Jamie got some new ice skates, so we’ll stay here where all the fun is.” I grinned.
Stephanie laughed, grabbed the basket and left saying, “I’ll call you when I find one.”
After waving goodbye to Stephanie, I looked down at Jamie, who was busy putting on his skates.
I sat down on the ground, pointy dried up grass

Nothing really happened until I was leaving the park. I searched in my purse for my iPod shuffle and earphones. Plugging it in, and putting the earphones in my ear, I tried to drown out my worry, loneliness, and sadness.
I couldn’t drown it out for very long because behind me a street light broke. I turned around to see nothing out of the ordinary, except for the broken glass at the base of the lamp. I slowly walked over to it, curious as to what broke it. As I reached out, and touched the black cold lamp pole with my fingertips, there was this creepy laughter from all around me.
“It’s a shame really.” A voice said tauntingly as black horses rose from the ground and neighed in response. They lifted their front legs almost coming down on me, until I jumped backwards before they could.

Darkness was everywhere. The light was broken, so there wasn’t even a silhouette of the dark horses. I didn’t know what to do. Everywhere I looked there was pitch black, except for the occasional pair of glowing eyes when I found a horse’s head.
I breathed in deeply, trying not to cry, but seeing that there wasn’t anything I could do, panic filled my nerves. I bent down and curled up, and tears slid down my cheeks, making shallow puddles by my feet.
Nothing much had changed since last chapter. I was cold. Wet. And terrified.
I heard the horses’ snorts and their neighs and clippity-clop of the horses were coming closer and closer. I was hoping they couldn’t see me in the dark, but I had a very scared feeling that they could.

“N-North?!” I gasped, trying to back away, but tripping over my own feet I collapsed on the floor. I tried to get up, but my wound was aching, and making it rather difficult to get back up.
North lifted his sword over me, and quickly lowered it, heading straight for my heart.
I rolled over, and kicked North in the shin, making him collapse. While he was struggling to get up, I quickly took away his swords and threw them across the room, making a thick plant vault around it. I heard the swords hit the plant walls and rattle as they fell against the floor.
Breathing heavily, I waited for North to get up.
“so uhm. Is there a point in me asking me while you’re trying to-“
“Ah. You’re rubbing your eye. Pitch’s little trick is contagious, I see. Okay. Well glad you aren’t mad enough to try to kill me now.” I laughed, half nervously, and half jokingly. I dodged North’s fist as I ducked around him.

“Oh come on! It’s not that bad! Please not be too late!!!” I heard a boy’s voice call out. I thought it was Jamie at first, but as I came to I realized he was older, a little bit older than me. My eyes slowly fluttered open, and immediately the bright sun and snow overwhelmed my eyes.
Sighing, I pushed myself up, my weak arms struggling. Realizing how cold I was when I saw the gap of ice in the pond, I whispered. “I fell in?”
I still had no idea what was going on when I got a rather big hug from Jamie, my groggy eyes growing wider. I chuckled slightly.
“Hey, you!” Jamie looked up and then looked at some air.

The door's lock clicked, and i pushed the door open. I finally got dressed out of my wet cold clothes, and put on warm pajamas.

Finding it in the crack of the couch, i turned it on.
"And now for the wea-" I changed the channel.
"Oh i know what the stupid weather is like! Cold with a side of freaky black sand horses!" I threw a pillow at the TV, which stopped mid-way and slid down in invisible air.
I immediately stood up, and stared at the air, which was now chuckling.
"Uhhh ermmm... uuuh..." I thumbled for words.
"Will hello work?" The air said.
I nodded my head, still slightly dazed.
"Yeah.. that should work... hello... uhm.. who am i speaking with?"

"All right. Come on." Jack said, breaking off the ice off the lamp, so when it melted the lamp wouldn't fall and break.
"Where are we going?" I asked stumbling across the icy floor over to where I heard his voice.
"To the North Pole of course!"
"So Santa Claus is real?"
"Yep of course!"
"of course." I remarked sarcastically.
"Hold my hand. and Don't let go."
I nodded, as I held out my hand for him to take it. As an icy cold hand took it, I breathed in quickly, almost forgetting that he was in fact, icy cold. "Sorry."
"It's fine." I smiled. He probably got that response a lot and it would probably make him feel different. Sometimes I felt like that too, because I was so good in doing things others were not, and I was so awful in doing other things that others were. I didn't want him to feel like that, so I assured him it was fine, which was the truth.
"Are we teleporting right now?" I looked around; nothing was happening, though. Jack chuckled, which made me slightly uneasy.

"Ok. We got to get out of here now." I pulled urgently.
Caleb nodded, but during the middle of it, Mother Nature woke, and cried out, "You!!!"
Mother Nature thrusted plants, clasping Caleb onto the wall like Jack had done before. "You killed my sister!!!"
"My reputation is well known, I see." Caleb remarked annoyedly. I could tell he hadn't wished for that to spread. He mouthed 'We don't have time for this.' at me. And I nodded, giving him permission to explain.
"I'm a good guy though. You have it wrong!" he started to say.
"You're lying! Why should I trust you? Especially when it worked OH SO well for Elizabeth?!?!" Her voice broke and tears flung out of her eyes.
"I'm not working for Darkness!"
"Liar!" this went on for quite a few minutes, until Mother Nature made no interest in listening to Caleb's reasoning. She pointed a single sharp thorn at his neck.
"So what now? You're going to kill me? That'd make you no better than what you think I am." I smiled grimly. He was

Jean stubbornly refused to accept it.
"This has a mistake," he insisted, glaring at Eren. "There's absolutely no sense in sending her directly into battle with her wrist injury. The officers should know this."
You and Marco watched helplessly as Jean launched himself into a tirade. Given the look on his face, it was clear that there was no stopping him whatsoever.
"Why the hell are you looking at me?" Eren demanded in a bewildered voice. "I didn't screw around with the squad roster, Jean! These things happen. My guess is that they're desperately short of people fighting at the front-lines."
"Didn't you hear what I said?" Jean growled, looking ready to seize Eren by the collar again. "[First] is physically incapable of killing Titans! The front line is a position that's rife with danger. Exactly what use would she be there?"
Those words stung your pride. You scowl

Though it was by complete coincidence that you happened to encounter Commander Dot Pixis at a place like this, you both agreed that now was as good a time as any to begin that discussion. With that, you shooed Jean and Marco back to military headquarters, so that they could attend the tail-end of the graduation banquet before it ended. They obeyed with reluctance, though not without looking towards you with concern.
You reassured them that everything would be alright, then sent them on their way. Better that than to let the boys miss dinner with the rest of the graduates. And right now you needed to have a private word with the well-respected Commander of the Garrison.
The evening was growing more chill by the second. Grateful for Marco's cloak, you wrapped it more tightly around your form, enveloping yourself in warmth as you stood in front of the gravesite with the veteran soldier.
Your Grandfather's ashes lay beneath the shade of a gnarled old tree.

In the evening following the conclusion of their exam, the other trainees gathered around a crisply burning fire. Nowhere to be seen, you were off visiting the medical office to tend to a slightly sore wrist.
Your rivals - and comrades - had quite a few things to say about your performance during the exam that afternoon. Most of them were of differing opinions. Not all were of praise.
"I have to admit," Reiner said, frowning his thick brows in thought. "While the use of stealth and pseudo-invisibility is nothing new in on the battlefield, she's taken it to an entirely different level. It's what makes her unique and valuable as a soldier."
"Is it practical, though? Getting the jump on humans," Eren argued vehemently. "...is not nearly the same as sneaking up on a Titan. The way we detect other humans is just n

Please note that this bonus comes in two parts, because I'm bad at writing within the limit like that. XD;
This bonus material is a sort of 'relationship map' illustrating the interactions between the heroine and her fellow characters through a series of shorts. I've also taken the liberty to format these one-shots by crossing over the Social Links system from the well-known Persona series.
The concept of 'Social Links' was taken directly from Persona 3 and 4, and refers to the relationship-building system that both games are well known for. 'Social Links' are essentially a wellspring of power for the main character, who becomes stronger and comes to a better understanding of their own self the more they bond with particular characters. One unique characteristic of these Social Links is that each particular relationship to a certain character falls under one of the cards from the 'Major Arcana' of the Tarot Deck. The particular '

The rain returned, this time as a full-blown torrent that left the forest trails flooded and treacherously muddy. The military outpost itself fared little better beneath the storm that raged overhead. Much to their displeasure, the trainees were set to the brutal work of repairing leaky rooftops, sealing walls, and cleaning up puddles where rainwater had managed to drip inside. Water crashed endlessly upon their heads in bucketfuls, soaking them to the skin, leaving them shivering and miserable.
The sky had turned pitch black, and remained thus even as the following day arrived. ...And the day after. You still had not left the infirmary.
Rumours spread throughout the regiment like wildfire. There was not a single soul who had not heard of the injury you had sustained during the final exam, and the devastating blow it had landed on your military career. Reaction to the news was varied. Most were sympathetic. A handful were l

Inside an old library, nestled in the heart of the Jinae District, a nine-year-old Marco Bodt was sifting through the endless shelves of books. Clearly, he was in eager search of a good read.
Throughout his childhood, he had literally grown up on stories of heroic figures, all of them chivalrous and just, who served the powers of good and fought against evil. Tales of knighthood in particular were his favourite, especially with the way their protagonists followed a code of pride and honor. These were noble characters who protected the small and the meek, and doled out punishment to those who oppressed them. Ever since Marco was small, he had wanted to follow the example of these heroes, which inspired his dream of someday serving in the Royal Guard. Just like a knight from those old-fashioned tales.
And yet... Marco felt a little disinterested in that today for some reason. He had read just about every story in that genre - t

After leaving you in the infirmary, so that you might have the chance to rest alone, Marco later ran into Jean down the same flooded path. The two of them had the same idea to visit the food stores of the training outpost in search of something to bring to you, and so they went together. Jean was still hesitant about the idea of visiting you, feeling as though he would be of little help. In fact, he seemed to be of the opinion that he would only be the opposite, given his bluntly honest nature. It was a sentiment to which Marco protested.
"Jean, she needs you too," he stated simply, gathering small loaves of bread into a basket. "Believe me, you could honestly make all the difference just by saying something to her. She needs t

Putting it delicately, Jaeger and I have never experienced the joy of being on the same wavelength with one other. More often than not, our sporadic 'disagreements' tend to end up in bruises and bloodshed, though I'll admit I'm not much better than him at keeping a reign on my temper. I’d also be lying if I said Mikasa didn't have anything to do with it. It's petty and childish, I know. But it irks me to no end the amount of attention she gives him that he neither appreciates nor deserves. The little shitwad.
But more than anything else, it's his incessant rage against the fabled merfolk that's kept me on edge whenever he's around. And goddamn, when that kid gets angry, you'd be downright crazy to stay in his way. Standing in front of a charging bull would be a far safer idea.
Yet here I am, barring his path while he stares me down with an accusing glare. His knuckles are ghost-white upon the wooden baseball bat. It looks
