Now this one I was painting whilst being recorded by some freeware screen recorder called Camstudio. I tested it before hand but upon completion of this painting I stopped the recording to watch it and it was corrupt. Apparently it's buggy as hell so don't expect any vids from me soon until I find some new capture software. Sorry folks.
Again inspired by the forerunners from halo.

This one took around an hour and a half :ahoy:

Continuing my foray into a new technique developed by the artist Sparth I began to implement what I had learnt into my normal work flow using a mix of all my usual techniques and I had been inspired by a lot of the Halo 4 concept work that has been released lately.
This one in particular is my own take on a concept piece developed for Halo 4 and it shows several huge forerunner structures piercing layers of clouds, the clouds react to their presence by wrapping around them and climbing the structures. I also added in ship of sorts :ahoy:

This one is a lot more refined than the others and took me around 3-4 hours

Right, I'm not too sure what this is well I have an idea but it started out as a fast speed painting messing with custom shapes and kind of got out of hand, I suspect it's hollow and filled with unimaginably complex machinery and stuff that just makes your head pop, like dividing by zero. Anyway it's some kind of alien relay network, what it relays and to where I don't know just yet. I have a few ideas but my brain fries it's self when contemplating them.
Whatever concept I role with it will be rather massive and epic... Like you would expect anything less.

This one took around 3-4 hours and the ships are re-purposed from an older image, it was 5am and I just needed some generic ships to use as scale and movement haha.

Enjoy

I had the extreme privilege to visit a refinery a couple of months ago and with the exceptional authorisation of the Refinery of Grandpuits in France I had this plate, and couldn't resist turning it into a sci-fi matte painting.

I assure you, the visit was just awesome, I know I know a refinery is not the glamourous place ever but it is just another world. You feel like being in a gloomy scene from Blade Runner movie, with steam, pipes everywhere, noise, and oil smells. I went around 35m up the ground just exactly where the two aliens are. Kind of creepy he he...!

Hope you will like it, this is mostly 2D for I pushed further my painting skills. Basically only the main spaceships have been modelled in Zbrush but postworked quite a lot.

Cheers for your favs and comments!
Textures and stocks are mine.

Condamned to exhile, a population completely left the earth to live inside a giant metal orb from their own conception and technologies. A new extra-nation in orbit rose, able to control their own artificial planet they live into.

This is another version of my previous 'The Terminal' artwork but this time in 3D and much more developed.

This is also my humble entry to Ballistic Exposť 10. Btw you can join me on CGsociety and CGtalk @ [link] , I would be glad to have you in my network over there too...

This is another terrain I designed with Vue 9, spaceships modelled with 3DSmax, and all postwork done in Photoshop CS3 to make everything more lively, realistic and full of details.

No hidden Jedi this time guys, dont waste your time ah ah but quite a lot of little things, lights and stuff here and there.

I had lots of fun doing it and should pass onto something different next time!!

Thx for faving and commenting this piece.
Your support means a lot to me.

:horns: to all my metal buddies!!!

A quick random speedpaint before bed. I've Tried to achieve some classic 50s sci-fi mood.

Spaceship landing pad in the land of spiky rocks never gets old and it's very relaxing to paint.

Goodnight.

Yay! A city I'm happy with :D

Oh, and it's something Halo too. I haven't done anything Halo in a while. Keep in mind, this was a 2 hour speed-paint, if I have some time, I may go back and refine it a lot more.

Updated: Can you spot the Keyship? ;)

"This Forerunner installation is in suspension until one worthy Reclaimer can pull this artifact from its resting place"

Yeah, it's a reference to the King Arthur thing. I know, not the most creative. But hey, I'm trying. Plus, I'd rather let the viewer's imagination do most of the work. Showing, not telling.

I'm a big fan of Sparth's Halo artwork. Well, actually, just his artwork in general. So I kinda wanted to try my hand at something similar to his style because I'm still searching and discovering things that I like about many artists.

-UPDATED-

Added a hole in the ground and some other minor things, like more snow and clouds.

Whew - my first upload in ages! It's been quite busy this year, so I've had very little time to do personal artwork.

This image started as a rough 3D model (created in Lightwave) and I more or less painted over the whole thing by the time I was finished with it.

The planet - orbiting an orphan star adrift in the intergalactic void - is named in honor of a friend and fellow artist. :)

I used some Hubble images as the basis for the distant galaxies:

A pair of interstellar survey craft approach an exo-planet. Will it support life?

This is a mix of 2D and 3D elements.

The nebula in the background is partly painted, and partly a modified version of this NASA photo of the Cat's Paw nebula [link]

Edit: made minor adjustment to the background

This was an attempt to design a fairly believable spaceship.

This craft makes use of antimatter/fusion hybrid propulsion, and the crew compartment is heavily shielded and includes a spinning section to allow for simulated gravity during prolonged flight.

The large shield at the rear serves as both a radiation shield and a heat radiator - since this type of propulsion would produce quite a bit of both :)

In this image, the radiator is visibly glowing red as it dumps excess heat...

This is one of several views in this "series"...

More personal work in reference to Halo. A scene showing a Forerunner vessel exiting the inner portal into the interior of a Shield World.

2 hours work. A mix of matte painting, usual speed painting and lassoing techniques. Gotta admit lassoing does makes things more easier.

"The Archive is a massive Installation with a Shield World, like Onyx, at it's center, both in real-time, with a Slipspace rift connecting to a Shield World "brane". The real-time Shield World has several purposes; storage and protection, mainly. A large amount of dormant Forerunners may reside within the inner casing of the Shield World. The Slipspace "brane", connected to by the Slipspace rift, may be a habitable installation if the real-time Archive Installation is ever in danger. The Slipspace brane also stores massive amounts of information (backup copies of the records in real space)."

It's been a while since I did anything related to Halo. So here's one to reignite my interest in the lore of the Forerunners.

This is a Halo based project for www.haloarchive.com/
