A castle rises out of the pages of this book sculpture. Complete with turrets, gate house, keep and buildings within the castle gates, this sculpture is fit for any royal family. The book used is "The Kingdom Within".

Available for sale: For information and additional views: [link]

Not modeled from any castle in particular, just my favorite parts of photos I searched. I'm 99% certain this book has nothing at all to do with a castle, but I read the title and ran with the first idea that came to me.

These go along with the Wizard Of Oz book sculpture. They were a commission piece. Originally, the client only wanted the slippers done, but I went a little crazy and did a whole scene. But, as promised, did the slippers as well.

This wreath is about 20 inches round. It is made from the pages of a hymnal from the 1800's.

The pages are fixed to a light weight foam board backing with attached hanging hook. The whole wreath weighs less than 1.5 pounds. Because of the age and free standing position of the pages, this wreath is fragile. It is finished with a UV coating to protect it from sun and moisture, but I would not suggest hanging it outside.

Special pricing will be made if purchasing the trio.

Vacuum Arachnid No 3
created June 4, 2013
visit [link] for more mechanical sculptures, news, and special features!

Vacuum Arachnid created with recycled watch parts and an old vacuum tube. The body of this arachnid is composed of an old electronic vacuum tube. Copper connectors at the bottom of the tube provide a base to which the legs can be attached. The legs themselves are made with recycled watch strap springs (the type that holds a watch strap or band to the watch itself) along with small watch winding stems.

Size is 64mm wide by 59mm deep by 57mm tall. All creations made by A Mechanical Mind are one of a kind, never to be reproduced exactly. All parts are soldered, never glued.

Each sculpture comes with a 3” wide by 4” tall glass display dome with wooden base. Sculptures are not toys and should be handled sparingly, as their parts are tiny and delicate.

“… another opens“
But when all the doors are closed … well … use the damn key!

This piece was totally impromptu. I was mulling over a commission but I just couldn’t reconcile the elements on that and was a bit frustrated. So I started to make a birdhouse out of a piece of scrap copper just to get my mind off the commission for a bit. As always, the mind wandered and I found myself thinking of the quote “when one door closes, another opens”. I said to myself, well, at the moment, ALL the bloody doors are closed on that commission piece, that’s for sure! So what do I do? That’s when my silly mind answered, “use a damn key!”. I laughed out loud. And then I thought … that’s frickin’ funny!! :)

This piece is an assemblage of repurpose copper, 16/18/24g brass wires augmented by fire, annealed steel wire, a pair of wings finding, antiqued brass chains, old gears, lace, repurpose fabric, clay, paint, paper, resin, an old barrel key, Variscite beads, a piece of Green Turquoise and quite a bit of impromptu brain activity.

*This necklace wears best between 16 and 17 inches round the neck, but the chain is long enough to go to 20 inches.

*The pendant is 5.5 inches from bail to end of chain, and 1.5 inches from wing to wing

Immortal II & Eternal II are hybrid gothic-industrial inspired necklaces assembled using my experimental RustART technique where an organically rusted metal washer acts as the foundation of the piece. Other elements included in these pieces are brass filigree and findings, paper, resin, metal hardware, glass beads and a piece of beautifully striated Picasso Jasper.

--------------------------------------------------------------

The RustART Series is an assemblage of the normal and the curious. Every piece in this series begins with a rusted washer. An assemblage of different objects, some pretty, some not so (or rather not normally perceived as pretty), are put together to allow the process of alchemy to occur, thus creating the perfect concoction of beauty … in the artist’s eye.

RustART :
A washer is organically rusted over several days and several layers under the watchful eye, in order to get the best rust formation in every piece. When the perfect rust formation is achieved, it is immediately sealed in with several layers of fixatives and sealers to preserve the beauty of the rust. The sealers also act as a protective layer to skin that might be in contact with the washer.

* The cord is 17 inches in circumference, plus 2 inches

* The pendant to the end of chain is 6 inches in length

* Every step has been taken to protect the skin of the wearer from direct contact with the rusty parts.
