Nightmare's head was difficult to draw. Her helmet blocks out her head design, meaning we don't know what her head looks like, or how her mane meets her head.
I considered tying a bow to each of the mane points, but the way Nightmare's mane 'flows' compared to Celestia and Luna mean that accessories cannot be put on her mane and tail. But I could always put a little bow around her horn...
"...And that one is the Canis Major. Over there is the North Star, so lost ponies can get their bearings. That five point constellation is the Southern Cross..." "Oh, Luna. We need to find you a hobby." "Shut up, Nightmare." Luna playfully poked Nightmare in the side. "So what's the moon called, anyway?" "Luna, of course." "Hence the term lunar, I assume. Is that where the name lunatic comes from for when the full moon is out?" "Yes, I guess so." "Oh. I always thought it was named after you. ... Because you're crazy." "Didn't I tell you to shut up?" Luna jabbed Nightmare playfully again, but a little harder this time.
Nightmare and Luna lying in a field together, watching the heavens. Something Celestia probably should have done in the place of Nightmare, but apparently never did. While I had wanted to draw something like this for a while, it was the song Constellations by Aviators that inspired me to finally do it. Go listen to the song while looking at the image!

The Nightmare Moon and Princess Luna characters and My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic are the property of Lauren Faust and/or Hasbro and/or others. Thanks to NightmareMoonS and Skylark-Torch for feedback while I was drawing this.
From the front, Nightmare has such an unusual head design. Made more unusual that from the side, her head is like the other alicorns'. I don't know if this is the angle, or a different design just for Nightmare.

Ah yes, it has been awhile since I did something NMM related. Original sketch (at title xP) is by but I had to modify the sketch a bit cause I could not get some of the lines down (I hope you do not mind Bri-sta). Well I hope you all like the way this coloring turned out.
Also sorry for only posting one peace this week, kinda busy with school (and it will probably will get worse )
Well here it is. This took me very long to finish mainly because this is my first, I think, art without outlines/strokes. Not sure what this kind of style is called but I sure like it!
It was fun doing this, learned a LOT, and hey if you people like it too then maybe I will start using this kind of drawing and coloring technique more often, but fair warning though since this took me unbelievably long to finish I may be able to upload once a week instead on twice.
Anyway that is not important now. Hope you guys and girls like it, because I sure do xP
As always, credits to the awesome, amazing, fantastic and magnificent for letting me color one of sketches [link]. Thank you!
Edit: small changes due to the fact that the mane may be blending too much with the NMM.
Edit 2: different colored shading for NMM as well as extra changes to the mane.
It's you, Celestia. It's always been you. You look right through me. I was only ever there for your convenience, wasn't I. I was only there when you wanted to see me. Well tell me, Celestia. Do you see me now?
I've had an idea for an animation for some time, probably since I originally depicted these two. Lacking the skill or resources to make it happen, stills will have to do.
I know there's a lot of discussion about exactly what Nightmare Moon is, but allow me to explain my notion. Nightmare moon is, to me, a part of Luna's mind, part of her but separated. Fueled by her sorrow and her fury, everything that compounds those feelings makes the nightmare stronger, the voice getting steadily more powerful until, one night, it overcomes her rational thought. And from there, it's only a downward spiral.
On this night, we gaze up to the sky and wonder at the stars sparkling high. For this is the night, pristine, everlasting The moon shines down, its rays ever casting And henceforth, the night serenely fades away in favor of a longer, brighter day.
I've been waiting six months to make this one. It was interesting trying to match [link] while utilizing six months of new tricks. Or maybe I just haven't developed that much. I hope that's not the case.
And so concludes the Solstice set, albeit a very small set indeed. As the heavens cycle, so shall I see you all in the new year. Have a wonderful holiday and a happy new year.
