Butterfly RisingButterfly Rising in Free Verse More Like This
She cries out into the stillness of the night:
"Why is this happening to ME?"
"Why are you hurting ME?"
"Why won't you leave ME alone?"
Her words float on the air, ascending upward,
then fall to the ground gently, as flakes of snow;
frozen tears from Heaven.
"Is anyone listening? Does anyone care?"
The heart grows cold, numb. Darkness beckons.
"Oh, just to sleep and never wake up!"
The constant pain. The ever-present need for
resolution, for closure.
But like an evil bird that refuses to return to the nest,
forsaking her own, so too relief keeps fleeing.
The noises in her head - a cacophony of confusion!
Unrelenting, unbearable, when will it end?
A Voice in the darkness, low and sweet, calling to her, beckoning her.
"Child, do you not know that you are loved?
Are you not aware that I hold your existence in the palm of my hand?
Like a butterfly you are to me.
Your broken wing; shall I not show pity?
I WILL heal your pain, I WILL nurtu

Child of NewtownThe last time I saw you; your face, etched forever in my memory.Child of Newtown in Free Verse More Like This
Those eyes, so wise, and yet loving. Your laugh, yes that laugh,
how can I ever forget! The memories we shared of good times
(sure, there were tough times too), frolicking in the wood, dancing
in the sand together, always together. You and me, me and you, living and
loving, sharing the best of times.
Will I see you again? Will we sing together again? Your favorite songs,
I know them all, word for word. I could sing them in my sleep, or recite your
favorite stories with one hand tied behind my back. Eating ice cream with you on a warm
summer night; the very best of times! My favorite was vanilla, yours rocky road.
Watching your favorite cartoon with you on Saturday morning; precious! Oh how I miss
you my child, my dear, sweet child. My heart is broken, forever numb.
"Come back to me, please come back."
"Awaken, my child, for the world is brand new.
The birds sing a song, their song is for YOU.

Have you ever had fun in the sand?

Hope... an ode to Newtown Soon this old world will come to its end.Hope... an ode to Newtown in Traditional Fixed Forms More Like This
Yet worry not, for then, only then,
can peace and love forever endure;
a new world of hope, its coming is sure!
Never to sorrow or cry out in pain
for the loss of a child, ever again!
The blessing of Jah will make all things new.
Yes, I want to live there, how about you?
The HawkThe Hawk in Traditional Fixed Forms More Like This
"Run, run, run little toad,
vain is your attempt to flee.
I'm a hunter supreme,
I'm quick and I'm mean,
today you'll be supper for me."
"Away, away, away evil hawk,
you'll never catch up with me.
I'm fast for my size,
I'm agile and wise,
I'll not be dinner you'll see."
"Hide, hide, hide little toad,
fine vision was granted to me.
You'll not get away,
though try as you may,
I see you there under that tree."
"Try, try, try evil hawk,
a hole I have found so I'm free.
I'm smarter than you,
this refuge will do,
today I'm so glad to be me!"

Caesar of the stars,
Horatio in space.
Spent some time on Mars,
reared in another place.
Dashing, brave and true,
you made us dream again.
An earth so ever new,
where everyone's a friend.
Yet danger lurked out there (where)
no man had gone before.
Spock and Bones made quite a pair,
your friends forevermore.
In you we see ourselves,
explorers to the end.
In space our yearning dwells,
'til then we'll just pretend.
For the World is Hollow..."FOR THE WORLD IS HOLLOW, AND I HAVE TOUCHED THE SKY"For the World is Hollow... in Traditional Fixed Forms More Like This
All of my life I have struggled;
reality vs. fantasy.
I have lived here in this bubble;
no one alive will listen to me.
They call me the 'ghoul-faced madman'.
If I could just get them all to see,
we're dwelling here in a tin can;
floating along through space endlessly.
"Lock him up! Throw away the key!
Yes, secure him behind bar and door.
Ignore the dreamer, let him be;
don't listen to his rants anymore!"
If only they'd just ask me why,
I'd tell them right straight to their face:
For the world is hollow, and I have touched the sky...
it's all a grand illusion; we're lab rats in this place!
Affirmation (Dreams of a Prince)Affirmation (Dreams of a Prince) in Traditional Fixed Forms More Like This
The days come and go as the earth spins around
and my life moves along to its end.
But while I am here I will stand on my ground
and fight for my family and friends.
I believe in myself and in what I believe
but at times I find that I'm stuck.
I want to do right but my thoughts make me grieve
when I think of all my bad luck!
Then at night I lay down and fall fast asleep
while my dreams swim around in my head.
I have to admit that my dreams can be deep
and quite often they fill me with dread.
Still, I know deep inside that I am who I am
and that nothing will cause me to fail.
to be a just and good king is part of my plan
to ensure my dad's vision prevails.
The Tormented ClownThe Tormented Clown in Traditional Fixed Forms More Like This
They'd come far and wide just to see him perform,
for him to be careful just wasn't the norm.
He'd flip and he'd flop and then roll on the ground,
he'd do crazy stunts when the crowd was around.
The smile on his face, it was painted for them,
he loved to get laughs, all the eyes were on him.
But when he was done at the end of the night,
He'd go home to his room and turn on the light.
For at night there were ghosts and shadows to haunt,
he'd hear voices call out, it's him they would taunt!
If only they knew what his life really was;
a tormented clown - wouldn't that give them pause?
