Like the title said, here you go Sak, the long waited comic you wanted see from me since....ermmm, Thursday? XD Man, I tried to keep the style close to yours but I think it's still me in the end XD But well I really have fun drawing these. And I'm not sure how they usually call each other, but well, kinda cute if they do call each other by their first name. But I always imagine Louis calling James "Dear Commodore".
Oh, and the setting for this scene is that James is getting married the next day. .....Yup.
Well, these two characters belong to my dear buddy Sak--->[link]
We were presenting our ideas to our lecturers and I just have this scene in my head, and I wanted to just draw it out. I've told her I'm going to draw it out, so yeah, after three days of waiting due to all the school work and backache. I've accomplished the mission!
Hope you like it Sak ^^ Man, I am so going to challenge you to draw a small comic of the pairing I like for once in my style XD
A commissioned piece of 's very popular character, Louis Despatis. [link] [link] He's quite the flamboyant French pirate, and I was requested to paint him in a more realistic style. I also drew him in a more war-amidst and badass manner xD
HAPPY VERY BELATED CHRISTMAS, Featuring her characters (from left to right) Captain Louis Despatis (French), Commodore James Hunter (English), and Santiago De La Cruz (Spanish). I must say, I think I'm in love with Santiago. He's just so ... badass. I had a lot of fun doing this it only took me so long because I've been so busy--and still am!
You can find 's original drawings of them here: [link] And all throughout her gallery.
Merry Christmas and happy new year!!
For some reason I've wanted to draw this for a long time, Louis and James pwned by the Spanish (my boyriend and I have been referring to him as Spanish for a while ...)
You can see her reaction to the picture here: [link]

One of my birthday presents for my sister Sak who turned 20 today :] Old fart. The other gift was a replica model of an 18th century Italian flintlock.
This is of her original character Captain Lawrence Selwyn [link] But he grew his hair out. Just for this picture. Mhmm.
And reference for the face (and who he's originally based off) is , a good friend of my sisters.
She loves the poster :] I got it printed A0 (which is how big I originally made it) and it now features as the centrepiece among all her other posters You should've seen her reaction. It'll be in a video she'll post sometime soon :]

Update 2011: Another year, another update. If you've been watching me for a while you know what these are.
I've noticed I probably draw Tom least (of the big four) but when I do he definitely tends to come out best. Of all my characters my finished pictures of him have been my favorites, I think some painting or other of him has been heading my front page 90% of the time I've been on dA.
----- Notes from í09 original post:
Mostly for my own benefit* I wanted to compile some progression sheets for my major characters, so while I was home I hauled out my old art folders and scanned all I could find of the lot. Thought I'd make a pretty dA version as well, as I get requests to post some of my old stuff and also because Tomís been building a modest fan following who might find this as painfully fun as I do.
So, we have the cynical cyborg from 2006 when I was an angry 16 year-old with a lamentable grasp of anatomy and he was Dr. Steel, a young man with one eye, a robotic arm, and a chip on his shoulder regarding his cyborginity, to mid 2009late 2010 mid 2011 when I am a lazy college kid with a lamentable grasp of anatomy and he is Dr. Thomas Destastiel, brilliant 120-year-old tech wiz living off life-support machines, spit and vinegar, and a fiery desire to synthesize an android for himself that is equal to (or better than) biology.
I'll be doing this for Ben and Cornelius as well, both of whom were at least ten times scarier than Thomas. I can guarantee you wonít recognize Cornelius; if you do youíve been watching me far too long.
Heeey, I don't know if this is A Thing Which Is Done, but damned if I didn't blarf a lot of time into arranging this thing, so I'm gonna share it.
These are the pages from my portfolio. We've seen a chunk of these things on dA, I'll scatter links to those below for the interested. Mostly there's some concept stuff in here I don't think we've seen.
In my limited experience sharing my work, for people planning to put together a portfolio, I'd considering including a slice of the sketch work and ideation behind pieces, if you've kept some around. It was one of the most frequent things professional art people said to me, how stoked they were to get to peek behind the scenes and into the guts of the machine. As it were.
Yes. I did do little BrainSpews for my opening and closing spreads. People got a kick out of them. (:
Told myself I wouldn't post these 'til I had all three finished but Tom's been giving me a hell of a time and these have almost gone past their two month expiration date where I start loathing them too much to share. So have some old artstuffs and proof that my characters actually do own more than one set of clothes!
'Street clothes' are the sort of thing you'd expect to see on city streets, our world, the west, today, which is also what you'd expect to mostly see around Amoth Elarg, the Network's nearest equivalent to North America. Ben actually wears 'normal' clothes more often than not when outside the Library.
I just had to draw fanart of this amazing and oh so fabulous character. He was so much fun to draw<3 I love everything about him. From his stunning frame to his gorgeous flowing hair to that diva personality just ahh~
Louis belongs to the beautiful and very talented canadian-rainwater [link]
Everyone wants to know what Louis looks like without makeup, yeah? Well, according to the man himself...
"…I'm afraid only the people who wake up next to me after a 'long night' are privy to that information." - Louis Despatis during his first encounter with a McDonalds
I wonder who the lucky dog is that's caused half of Louis' makeup to come off here..? *wink wonk*
So yeah, I fell in love with 's new project involving a flamboyantly gay French pirate, an astute English commodore, and a royally pissed Spanish power-monger, who are all at odds with each other in the world she's created for them. Captain Louis Despatis happens to be my favorite and I had an overwhelming urge to draw him. He knows how to charm people like that. (Since he's more casual here, I left "Captain" off the title. I'd like to think Louis allows a first name basis when it comes to first base~)
I wanted to draw his long twiggy legs, but once it got to the hair and hands he started to turn into a nice bust piece, so I left it at that.
All I can say is... coloring the hair was more fun than expected. I have no idea what was going through my mind with that background, though...
Had the urge to paint something last night, but did not feel like sketching something new, so I dusted off a doodle from last month and decided to see if I could fancy it up a little. It was still just as fun!
Just a quick little sketches of the Tuareg people. They stand out from other traditional Islamic cultures because the men wear face-covering veils, while the women doesn't. Also traditionally only women get educated and learn to read and write, while the men largely stay illiterate and do male chores such as herding.
The clothing style is very different from region to region and from person to person, so this is a mix of everything.
ashgaksdjgaksjdgah I love my new book. HISTORICAL CLOTHING.
Ironically, I ended up sketching this from memory, so it probably STILL isn't accurate; I still retained at least a little after poring over the illustrations last night before bed, lol.
Anyway, Meriwether is wearing a hunting frock and William has on gaiters. I believe that EVERY MAN IN THE WORLD should wear hunting frocks or gaiters and, in a perfect world, both. 8T
(As for the content, meh, I wasn't really thinking too hard about it, I just wanted to draw CLOTHES~ But Lewis often went off hiking on his own, but he would also sometimes take a few men with him; guess he forgot this time )
Okay, now this Lewis & Clark Month thing can actually begin.
Was really, REALLY lazy with this (lame backgrounds, lack of the other people in the Corps of Discovery, etc.), but ah well! The flowers are meant to be "Lewis's monkeyflower"-- I tried to pick something that he collected around the time of Clark's birthday, and while the dates aren't EXACT, it's fairly close, apparently (like by a couple of weeks). Oh, and I have NO IDEA WHAT THEY'RE WEARING. Still waiting for that book. ;_;
As for the actual content of this...uh, take it however you like! (I know, it's doofy)
Mm, sorry for the cop-out, especially considering how much I prefer Lewis to Clark, and as such ought to devote a singularly AWESOME PICTURE to him for his birthday. ¨___¨;; BUT I still plan to draw more comic-y stuff for the remainder of my L&C Month, and after a long vacation weekend, this was all I could muster.
Lewis's famous 1805 birthday meditation from his journal. I prefer to think of it as more of a determination on his part to put his best foot forward in the face of his own shortcomings, rather than a truly melancholic reflection, but it's pretty heavy stuff. Still motivating, when you think about it. *nods thoughtfully* But it's especially sad when you realize what happened only four years later...more on that later this month.
Well, it's a day late, but Happy 238th Birthday, Meriwether Lewis! Here's to furthering the happiness of the human race~
