Sketch that worked itself into a drawing some how. This is also a combination of like two troopers in one because of my extreme lack of drawing anything StarWars. lol! Had fun with this posed warrior on the battlefield though. Great time to strike one...don't you think. Haha!
I've always loved that Darth Vaders outfit was inspired by Samurai gear. I thought I'd play with his original design and incorporate some of that samurai shit along with some stuff I just had fun popping in there. Had a dandy playing with this piece a little lot.
EDIT: Ok guys, this is NOT a Reboot reference. I don't recall any time during the TV show where a character says "End Program" like that. I do recall them saying "Reboot" and donning costumes in the purple gamecubes, which is what I think everyone is confusing this with. This is a Star Trek reference for when characters want to exit the Holodeck.
EDIT: I'm also a little disturbed by how many people seem to think this is "funny." I never meant it to be, but then again I just might be a little too close to the subject matter to see it from any other perspective...
Pencils and inks by Dawn McTeigue (who has a couple of nice B&W's there in decent sizes btw...)
Finally some down time from all the commissioned stuff I've been doing lately so I finished off this one, which is another that's been sitting half flatted on my HDD for a couple of months now. Kind of appropriate considering that "Starwars day" is coming up this weekend...
Hmm... green and purple. Not the most usual of colour combinations that you see everyday but thanks to George and his movie, that's what I had to use for this one! Anyway, made for an interesting challenge to get the colours to work together and not clash too violently. It was all about getting the saturation levels just right so they don't boggle your eyes on the screen.
I also had a bit of a time with the background, trying to get it to be interesting but not too plain r too complicated. Again lowering the saturation from the original sunset purples and pinks seemed to do the trick.
A few days after I sent my orange version of this Darkness cover to Joe, he tells me they'd asked JJ Kirby to give it a shot on the colours as well. Joe also sent me a sneak preview copy of JJ's colours and said "See what you can do with yours now."
So I got back into my version, ditched the orange theme and using JJ's a cue redid my colours to match somewhat and fired it back off the Joe.
Personally I think that my colouring style is a little more refined on the detail than JJ's so this matches his colour scheme but still has my methodology to it overall. Not to worry though because as I said in the orange version that I originally did it looks like they're not going to use it anytime soon and if they do it'll probably be JJ's colours anyway...
Here is a recent commission done of the three generations of Amidala....with Leia, and Jaina Solo....set in the arena setting. This one was rather fun. I've uploaded the high res inks for your coloring types to play with. Please send me links to your finished version, and please give proper credit for the lines.
