The sight of Distant Memory was something that almost took Cera's breath away as she stared out one of Shearling's viewing ports. She'd seen holographs of JumpShips before, but that wasn't even worth mentioning when you saw the real thing with your own eyes. A Tramp class JumpShip is 640 meters long, masses 250,000 tons, has a 140-meter diameter grav deck and two cargo holds. The ship has three docking rings for DropShips to attach to, as well as two small craft bays.
Neatly docked inside those bays were two KR-61 long-range shuttles: Golden Sable and Silver Fox. They were the newest additions to the ship's complement, only ten years old. They were modified to carry less cargo and more passengers than standard KR-61s, and their function was to transport people between the JumpShip and planets if the DropShip wasn't available or it was simply mo

The celebratory dinner at the Amber Garden went off quite well. It was a four-star restaurant with five-star prices, but since Alexandra was picking up the bill, no-one cared. Cera got herself dolled up for the occasion and looked as fabulous as Alexandra. The only difference was that her outfit didn't cost a fortune. Cera was a lovely young woman, her classic Japanese features beautiful and elegant.
Ian had some formal attire, coming from royalty and all, and knew how to handle himself among the peerage, although it'd been some time. The Solaris Hilton was home to all sorts of visiting nobles, wealthy businessmen, famous MechWarriors and other members of the elite. As might be expected Garadun didn't quite fit in.
He came from a comfortable white collar family on Terra, which had the highest standard of living anywhere in the Inner Sphere. However, his

Garadun strolled into the Innsbruck Barracks main hangar wearing his cooling suit, his neurohelmet tucked under his arm. It seemed like forever since he'd done this and he was filled with a great sense of excitement. He had a BattleMech again.
Everything had gone pretty much to plan. It had taken two days to get Shearling ready for launch, and then she had lifted off to meet with Distant Memory at the pirate point. The ship jumped to Newton Square where Shearling detached and began the in-system journey, which took just over four standard days. There was some bureaucracy to deal with once they landed, which slowed things down, but Jimmy was able to give the Stinger in question a complete inspection. It was a typical STG-3R model, about ten years old and in relatively good shape. It would need work and customization to bring it up to Fusiliers standards, but th

Most people in the Innsbruck media were calling it the Battle of Innsbruck, while others (with more historical and military perspectives) were splitting the fight with the pirates into two events: the Battle of Ferdinand Park, and the Battle of Northend Fields. But since the Battle of Innsbruck was the first name heard by the public, that's what the majority of people were calling it. History would attend to itself.
No matter what you called it, there was no question that the raiders had been totally decimated. Five of the nine crewmembers aboard the Leopard class DropShip had been killed when Garadun destroyed the bridge. Of the invading MechWarriors, one was dead, four were wounded, six were uninjured and one had fled. Five of their BattleMechs had been blown to bits, four were badly damaged and might have to be scrapped for parts, one was easily repairable, and another needed

The irony of the situation wasn't lost on Cera. After almost four years of fighting together in the arenas of Solaris, Garadun wasn't at her side for the first battle to be fought as professional mercenaries. She couldn't blame him, not really. It was simply bad luck that he'd been out on patrol when the alarm sounded.
It had been a civilian pilot who'd alerted them. She'd been en route to the town of New Bregenz when she spotted the Union class DropShip on its landing vector toward the north of the capitol. She immediately radioed in, reporting the ship's position to the civilian air traffic controllers, who passed on the report to the Innsbruck Militia.
Colonel Phillips called for an immediate scramble, and the Fusiliers had gotten kitted out in double-time, mounting their BattleMechs and getting the fusion engines started as quickly as safety a

While there wasn't one member of the Fighting Fusiliers who wasn't incensed by the racial hatred spewed by Ryan Daniels, they were far more concerned for their friend's life. It was something they'd heard about but had never witnessed: a 'Mech duel to the death. This wasn't some Immortal Warrior holofilm. This was the real thing.
Alexandra was quickly becoming a bundle of frayed nerves. Garadun had been, with Cera, the very first to sign on to her fledgling mercenary unit, and since then had become a very good friend and confidant, not to mention a solid member of the Fusiliers. Now he was going to fight a battle he might not survive. She was the company commander, so she was trying to remain composed and in charge, but it wasn't easy.
The Fusiliers were equally anxious, especially Ian, Jimmy and Sayuki. Garadun was Ian's best buddy and Jimmy's very close friend as well. Sayuki wouldn't have even be

The shindig the Fusiliers threw for her wasn't a surprise, but it was very significant because it was the only birthday party she'd ever had in her life. Having been raised very poor with only her mother, and then losing her mother at the age of twelve, well, there simply hadn't been a lot a special times in Isabelle Pearl's life.
All that changed with the birthday party. Alexandra pulled out all the stops, spared no expense. Isabelle was treated like royalty right from the start with Marie serving her breakfast in bed. The Altstadt Palace was the most spectacular building on Kolovraty and the official residence of Duke Josef Sheridan. First built in 2673 when the system was part of the Rim Worlds Republic, the building was a close copy of the Hofburg Palace found in Vienna, Austria on Old Earth. The ruler of Kolovraty at the time had wanted something beautiful and grand, and had looked to the distant past for inspiration. It had been badly damaged during the Amaris Civil War, but when the Lyran Commonwealth annexed the system after the war, Duke Sheridan's ancestor restored it to its former glory.
In the heart of the palace complex were a series of magnificent halls that could serve a variety of functions, and one of the most impressive was the Ceremonial Hall. It was here that Duke Sheridan was hosting the royal ball in honour of the Fusiliers. In attendance were assorted members of Kolovraty's nobi

There was no denying that after a few days aboard Distant Memory, the presence of Wasp and Stinger had given the crew's morale a big boost. They were incredibly cute, as all kittens are, and many of the crew (notably the women) had dropped by Garadun's cabin when off duty to visit and watch them play or even just sleep.
The sight of them romping along the grav deck's main hallway was something that brought on many adoring smiles. Garadun didn't take them out of his quarters often, but when he did they always drew admirers. They were Sian-Xiaos, a small Capellan breed which was primarily descended from the Munchkin. It had been mixed with the Ragamuffin for a calm, friendly personality and longevity; kittens took almost three standard years to fully mature. It had then been further bred with the Siamese for colouration, with lovely blue eyes and medium-length fur. However, the k

After three days aboard Shearling the biggest problem Cera had to deal with was boredom. The initial shock of take-off had long since vanished. There was nothing for her to do, not really. The running of the DropShip and its maintenance was in the hands of its capable crew. She didn't try to help them with their duties, knowing she'd only get underfoot. If someone asked her to lend a hand, then fine. Otherwise she tried to keep out of their way and not be a problem.
Watching 'Mech battles on the vid could only kill so much time before it got boring. It was an advantage for any ship in the Solaris system, getting to pick up broadcasts (often live) of the Games. But Cera was a mercenary now, not an arena fighter. Watching what was going on, keeping an eye on the competition, keeping up-to-date on the race for the Championship, knowing what the bookies were sayin

But now you are the only one I speak to,
The only one who's heard all my ugly stories of love,
The only one who have always seen through my poems,

It was thanksgiving when I woke up to rippling translucent waves of the ocean nearby,

A History of ImaginariumWhen we were young, we believed. In myths, in legends, in stories beyond the wildest imagination of the best story teller in the world. Tomorrow always held surprises, new stories, and new worlds for our imaginations to explore. Everything began with 'Once upon a time' and ended with 'Happily ever after.' We lived in a land where we all owned pet tyrannosaurus rexes, maybe a few dragons, a sword that rivaled Excalibur and faeries and pixies, who just happened to make great playmates. Fae food for some reason always seemed to be so much better than your average meal, and who needs an adult to talk sense to, when you could have a talking lion?A History of Imaginarium in Introductions & Chapters More Like This
But time passed us by. And things changed. We grew up, much to Peter Pan's dismay. And things became what they would never become if we believed. Things became boring.
Reading became insipidly real, about average people with average lives. And what was worse, we enjoyed that much more that the fantastical tales that our imagination wa

"I will help you find them, then."
"I never asked for your help."

What does it mean? And for what cause?
How can any sort of writing make a change?
How can I make anyone see this little word I have written here,
On display for all to see?
There is a cause, a fight that we all must strive to fight,
Yet no one cares to see.
People all just turn their heads,
And try to say it's all okay.
They don't even want to see,
The terrible battles we fight every day.
I don't know if they will ever end,
If there will ever be a way to resolve this pain.
So many people have been affected,
And so many more have not realized it is their time.
I can see everything falling apart around me,
Feeling each person's suffering as sure as if it were inside my own skin.
This fading ink symbolizes all that I take up,
Shows that I believe so firmly in my cause,
I mean to help those that cannot help themselves;
I want to show the world how much we can hurt ourselves if left unchecked.

I couldn't sleep,
so I wrote you a poem.
A beautiful poem
full of love and princesses and fairytales,
tales of dragons and dungeons and rescues.
I told you what I thought of you,
and all that I felt for you/
(I was actually quite proud.)
But then I tore it up.
Suddenly, in one fell swoop
that magic world faded away,
and the princesses and fairytales
Became pieces on the ground.
The story broke,
the dragons won,
And the town was torn apart.
You must wonder why I ripped it up,
and showed no one, told no one,
Not even you.
It's very simple.
Those fairytales and princesses,
Dragons, dungeons and escapes,
Are not words enough,
(these few lines are not words enough)
to tell you how I feel.
