I got fed up with trying to make this one look like a sort of Ryan Church sketchy painting and just finished the damn thing as best I could.

This is a Star Wars card I did for an upcoming TOPPS Star Wars Galaxies series. They usually don't like us to post these beforehand BUT they are using this piece in advertising, so I figure it's OK. The set will be out in a few months.

This is actually based on a convention sketch I did of Mrs. Luke Skywalker, Mara Jade, at Star Wars Celebrations Europe. I liked the idea, but I felt the sketch was kinda.... not my best work (the conditions at that show were FAR from comfortable). So, when the next GALAXIES series came around, I was allowed to do this as a finished piece of art.

Done in my usual technique: pencil, India ink, Strathmore Series 500 3 ply illustration board, and then colored in Adobe Photoshop CS2.

***UPDATE***

I just fixed her eye color; an alert fan :iconmothramonk: let me know I got her eye color wrong.

Star Wars cover, done for Dark Horse Comics. I really enjoyed doing this, which is rare for me. I do loves me my STAR WARS, mm-boy.

I cannot believe Lucasfilm let me show a dead Jedi Knight with a severed limb.

Funny story: I just threw this gal in because I needed a dead Jedi, so I used a design that I created for a Wizards of the Coast SW role-playing back in 2000. I figured that since i brought her into the world, I could take her out.

Well! Turns out you can't make a move in the SW without it being 'in continuity' so they simply HAD to write her into the comic, and give her death a spotlight scene, which was cool.

Only, one thing baffled me. In the comic, Vader stabs her through the heart with his lightsaber, THEN cuts her hand off. Doesn't make a lot of sense to me.... in MY mind, Vader would disarm her first by cutting off her sword-hand, THEN deliver the killing stroke.

Comics is crazy business.

Maybe I'll post the game art here soon, so everyone can see who I created then slaughtered.

Here's the game art!

This is a sketch of a piece that never ended up seeing the light of day. I was asked by Topps to do a piece to be used as a printed card in their newest art of Star Wars set. Unfortunately, due to a heavy workload, I wasn't able to finish the piece to be used in the set and thus, it remains a layout sketch and nothing more. I really liked the way this was heading and would love to finish it one day but, for now, I hope you enjoy checking out the initial sketch.

I was getting ready to go to Star Wars Celebration in L.A. a few weeks ago when I found out that we would have backdrops behind our booth that we were supposed to use to show artwork on. Realizing that I have very little Star Wars art in my portfolio I sat down and penciled, inked and colored these 2 pieces up in about 3 hours each. Both pieces stood about 4 feet tall on either side of my booth and, while far from my finest work did the trick for such a rush job.
Thanks to everyone that came out to Star wars Celebration! You guys are the reason I go to these shows and I had a blast meeting everyone. Hope we can do it again very soon.

Best,
-Mark

Okay, so I haven't posted in a good long while so I'm going to try and stock May full of a lot of artwork.
This is my piece for Star Wars Celebration 4 happening in Los Angeles at the end of May. All us official LucasFilm artist were given a special license to create one piece of artwork and produce a limited print run of lithographs to sell at the show so I really wanted to blow this one out of the park. To see all the other artist's pieces check out the links:

You can also learn more about the convention at [link]

The piece is done mixed media starting out as a pencil and ink drawing and then creating ink effects on dry board and added them as filters in photoshop along with coloring the figures and background. I'm showing the original drawing as well as the background used as the backdrop of the photograph. Hope you dig it!

UPDATE!:
Based on a few e-mails I've gotten I've decided to take reservations for my lithograph to be picked up during Celebration. The prints are 20" X 30" full bleed on heavyweight matte finish archival paper(that's a mouth full!) and will sell for $50 or $75 with a sketched remake at the bottom. Numbering will go on a first come first serve basis and all prints need to be picked up by Friday Afternoon by the end of the show.
Please shoot me an e-mail at markbrooksart@msn.com with your full name, number of prints, and whether you want a signed or a signed and sketched version. You can pay for the print when you pick it up at the show. This is only for pick-up at the show but if you're not able to attend and would still like a copy you can e-mail my good friend J.J. Torres at vulcajedimaster_elessarattreides@yahoo.com . He will be purchasing prints for people at the show and has graciously offered to pick up prints for non-attendees. As expected, you'll be responsible for the shipping cost and payment will need to be arranged with J.J. prior to the show.

Thanks again guys and I look forward to seeing everyone in a few weeks!!

-Mark

This really happened; on the planet Maryx Minor (see here for starters [link]), Fett and Vader duked it out on the volcanic planet. Bear in mind this was before Vader hired him to catch Solo. I know that this skirmish was a major factor in Vader's selection of bounty hunters later on.

At this point (Star Wars time is 40 ABY), Boba Fett is in his seventies, but is still alive and kicking. However, time starts catching up to Boba Fett, but he still finds a way to cheat death. Read about the exploits--and fame--of Boba Fett here:[link]

Did another one of these to throw in my portfolio for C2E2.
I might mess with it a little more after I show it to some experts, but this is pretty much finished.
Oh yeah, star wars belongs to lucas so on and so forth.

Heres a pin-up/ cover of an Imperial Agent based on the character class in the upcoming MMO Star Wars the Old Republic.
These dudes are like snipers and space ninjas, I opted for the sniper variety as it is more challenging to make a sniper interesting and actiony than it is to do a sweet ninja/ deadpool knock off.
I also left this one more saturated than the other to keep the punchyness of the explosion which is lost when the image is desaturated.
Lucas owns star wars blah blah.
Enjoy!
