Hi guys! This is a new set of 12 artworks I did for the new Star Wars Essential Reader's Companion. Although the dateline for this book was a lot tighter it nevertheless was an enjoyable and rewarding experience.

As with the last book I will be posting them in the order of sequence as it appears in the Reader's Companion. Enjoy!

This was another piece that was done purely for the fans. It's from Force Heretic of the New Jedi Order series and it shows the Jedi Expedition led by Grand Master Luke Skywalker exchanging cordial gestures with former enemy and renown Imperial ace pilot, Baron Soontir Fel. He's one of my favorite EU characters mostly because he's an upstanding Imp and the Empire's equivalent of Alliance ace, Wedge Antilles, whom I love.

Fel here is part of the Chiss Expansionary Defense Force but was also formerly a commanding officer in Thrawn's Empire of the Hand before its dissolution....or absorption by the Chiss Ascendancy. The Jedis are on the Chiss homeworld of Csilla and they are on an expedition in search of the mysterious sentient planet, Zonama Sekot, which they believe is the key to defeating the Yuuzhan Vong.

An Entechment in process from the Truce At Bakura novel. The space raptors are called Ssi-ruuk and there are the ones torturing and sucking the life out of that the poor Imp officer using a contraption called an Entechment rig. The "life-energy" extracted is used as a power the Ssi-ruuk war-machine. The other human in the scene is Dev Sibwarra, using the force to calm the victim down. One of the few creepy scenes in the Star Wars universe IMO.

This next scene is from Dark Lord: The Rise of Darth Vader. Vader and his 501st Legion battles Wookies and Jedis Siadem Forte and Iwo Kulka and just plain being a badass!

Another piece painted for the Star Wars LCG by Fantasy Flight Games.
I am told this one had a brief appearance as the titular 'Luke Skywalker' card during the first GenCon playtesting.

Here is another painting I did for the Star Wars Essential Reader's Companion.

-------------
This was a very fun job... But quite a challenge as well. I had 2 months to do 39 illustrations for this book.

While speed is a strength that normally lands me a lot of my work, I still want to do as best as I can. It can become quite a challenge. I pushed VERY hard on this assignment to do my absolute best-- even having to work it around my regular freelance work. But I pulled it off... And I am happy with the way it came out.

Another card for FFG's upcoming Star Wars living card game! A black throne against black space is really hard to design a composition around. Thankfully, we have Endor!

Now that Galaxies is officially defunct, I thought it safe to post some of my favourite illustrations here for posterity sake..!

Working on this franchise for close to 2 years really helped me grow as a creative and allowed me to explore many aspects of the craft-- its not often you get to play the role of illustrator, story-teller and designer within a single commission. It was truly rewarding in hindsight and more often that not, a very humbling experience when you witness the sheer quality and passion of other fellow creatives working on the same project, really inspires you to stretch yourself beyond the usual bounds!

Hard to see where you're going in a firefight with those blinders for a visor... ;) Still love scout troopers all the same.

Battle-worn company of walkers moving quickly through a narrow pass.

I added my usual preference of wargear to the AT-STs, obviously keeping canon in mind and always making sure that whatever I've added have somehow appeared in SW stories at some point. In this image I thought it would be nice to show a different loadout for the different walkers in a company. The light footed scout to the left of the image sporting long range mortars bolted to the upper rear of the turret, communications antenna and 6-pack dumbfire rockets for harrassment. Also small, lightweight reactive armour plates to cover the vulnerable battery packs on the underside of the turret.

The main lead unit just has to have a nonchalant cool-headed gunner who is probably soaking in the sunrise :p, and it also sports 2 rotating grenade launcher mounts on its lower cheeks, plus a winch system under the main chin gun and shielded weapon systems.

I guess the tip of the day here is "always looks up and behind you". Some would say very specific advice, but useful never the less.
