Snog Him!"Go ahead. Snog him. You know you want to," Amy urged.Snog Him! in Sci-Fi More Like This
"Mother dear," River said, "I do not snog on command."
"Oh, come on!" Amy said bumping her shoulder with a grin. "When you were Mels..."
"When I was Mels," River said with dignity, "we were both adolescents. I've matured since then." River gave her a repressive look over her shoulder, high on her high horse. Amy just grinned.
They'd just come off an adventure. Another world saved. Another alien invasion thwarted. Another planet of green swampy people free to live their lives in peace.
They were all back in the Tardis, and all still covered in drying swamp mud. The Doctor was grinning and gesticulating, looking totally adorable as he explained to Rory how he'd assembled the complicated technological doo-dad that he'd put together at the last minute to make the invaders' oxygen tanks fritz out.
Rory's eyes were glazing over, as usual.
"So," Amy said, crossing her arms and tipping her head at her daughter. "Since you're too mature to

River was in her bath robe. The Doctor squinted at her, no, she was in Amy's bath robe. He felt his hearts squeeze, but also a wry smile lift his mouth. River would never own anything as dowdy as a threadbare fluffy pink bathrobe.
She was wearing her mother's robe. The Doctor's throat closed up. She was coming out of the bathroom, halfway down the hallway. Her hair had that extra bounciness it got just after she'd washed it, when it wasn't quite dry yet. And she was moving like an old woman, as if her very bones hurt.
He ran down the hall and scooped her up in a huge hug. She squeaked in surprise. His hearts were suddenly hurting, but not for the Ponds. For River. How could she think he'd care how old she got? Why would she think she needed to hide any injury or imperfection from him.
Didn't she understand how much he loved her?
"River." He hid his face in her curls, cool against his cheeks. He squeezed her as tightly

He didn't react to women like this. It was a Time Lord thing. They didn't let you out in the universe without certain precautions, and frankly, there were always so many other interesting things to think about.
But River was different.
There was an understatement. It wasn't that she was conceived in the Vortex. Although that was part of it, she had the same energy running through her as ran through him. The same connection to the Tardis. The same timey-wimey nature.
And that was grand. But it wasn't what was important. Loads of Time Ladies had had that, and he hadn't reacted to them like he did to River.
It wasn't sexual. Okay, it was but it wasn't but it was but it wasn't. This was River after all. He may be a Time Lord, but he was still male. He hoped River never met Jack, the poor man would die of an overload. Or start walking around wearing a short Greek skirt waving palm fronds at her. She'd love that.
Even that's not why he reacted to h
BubblesRiver finds the Doctor having a bubble bath... How could a girl resist?Bubbles in Sci-Fi More Like This
He was sitting in a mound of bubbles up to his chin with a disposable party hat on his head.
He'd sculpted the bubbles into a Santa Claus beard and mustache, and there were a variety of boats, ducks, and what looked like the tail of a plastic dragon poking out of the mountains of foam.
River lounged in the doorway and stared at him, shaking her head, and smiling indulgently. "Enjoying yourself?" she asked.
"River!" He jumped up, splashing water and foam everywhere. He grinned delightedly. "I didn't hear you arrive." He stopped and cocked his head, listening. "We haven't landed, have we?"
River shook her head. She held out her wrist. "Vortex manipulator. Sexy and I have been working on it."
His eyes got huge, gleaming bright. "You materialized inside while we're in the vortex? That's brilliant!" He gamboled over to her, dripping water and foam. He almost tripped over the lip of the huge, clawfooted bathtub. H

"She's in there," the sweating man waved at the bar. "She's crazy! Unfortunately, she's also a good shot."
"What set her off?"
"Hell if I know," the little man rubbed his bald pate. "She came in looking like she wanted to drown her sorrows, and next thing I know she's shooting shit out of my bar!"
The tall man patted him on the shoulder, "I'll see what I can do."
He walked into a smoking rubble of a bar. Tables were turned over, drinks spilled, bottles shattered, glass crunched under foot.
He found her sitting in the corner, back to the wall, a whining gun in one hand, and a half-empty bottle of Tequila in the other. From the evidence on the table it wasn't the first.
"River," he muttered calmingly.
She looked wired, her eyes electric, as dangerous as someone with nothing to lose. She shot at him. The bolt sizzled over his shoulder, close enough that he felt the heat of i

"Move over, sweetie," River said, bumping him with her hip.
"I can't move over, I'll fall out of the bed," the Doctor protested. "And stop hogging all the covers!" He jerked irritably at the comforter and she rolled closer into him.
She wiggled against him, giggling.
"River, stop it!" he said, fending off her hands and spitting her hair out of his mouth where it brushed his face.
"I'm just reaching for your sonic screwdriver."
"Tha..at's! Not where I keep my sonic screwdriver!" he said with a squeak.
"Yes, it is, sweetie." She patted him on the bum and pulled the sonic screwdriver out from under him.
"How'd that get down there?" he asked.
"You weren't paying attention," she said suggestively.
"Well, if you wouldn't keep distracting me..."
"Sh... Someone's coming." She laid a finger to his lips and they froze, trapped together, wrapped up tight in the quilt, ears straining in fear they would

River pulled down the sheet that covered her face and looked up, bleary-eyed, at the Doctor looming over her in her cell.
"Unh!" She glared at him.
"Did you just grunt at me?" he asked.
She grunted again.
The Doctor grinned like a little boy who'd just discovered his dog could talk. He bounced on his toes and beamed at her. She gave him a dirty look and scrubbed her hands over her weary face and into her tangled hair.
Resigned, she flung aside her prison issue blanket and swung her feet to the floor. She sat up, then hunched over with her face in her hands.
"What do you want, Sweetie?" she asked, trying not to sound as disgusted as she felt.
"Grunt again," he said.
She stared up at him over her fingers. "What?"
He bounced, beaming. "Grunt again. It's cute!"
River groaned into her hands and rocked slightly, finally rocking herself to her feet.
She poked a sharp-tipped fingernail in his chest. "I a

River shrieked. “Doctor!”
He tackled her around the waist. They fell tumbling down the hill, his arms tight around her. They ended in a huge mud puddle at the bottom.
She sat up and flicked the mud off her hands. “What did you do that for?”
“There was a Cendisian Ruby Snake about to bite you, didn’t you see it?” he demanded. His face was stark white under the mud, his quiff bobbing down from the weight of mud on the tip.
It started raining.
“Oh, great!” River stared up at the sky, her gown ruined, the rain slicking her muddy hair back like a mop. “Can this day get any better?” she groused.
“River,” his voice was soft, almost a whisper. She turned.
He kissed her. Shock jolted down to her heels. He pushed her back in the mud, braced them on one arm, cupped her face wit

He really needed to install the helmic rectifier he’d been building in the workshop. Without it the navigational array couldn’t compensate for navigational hazards. They could fly right through a star by accident.
But Amy was ensconced in Rory’s lap, her hands woven in his hair, his hand up the back of her shirt. They were right in front of the sensor station. He wibbled, then firmed his resolve and gallumped down the stairs.
He cleared his throat. “Uhm... guys?”
They ignored him. Well, Rory may have started to respond, but Amy renewed her kissing, gripping his hair, and he fell back under her spell.
The Doctor shifted from foot to foot, he considered just working around

Jack shot at one of the bulky figures over the wooden barricade he was hiding behind. Blaster fire and grenades exploded all around him, peppering him with debris.
He ducked back behind his barricade and changed out the charge pack in his gun. A lanky man ran up, slipped in the shale, and joined him behind the barricade. The floppy haired individual stared up at him in shock.
"Jack! What are you doing here?" he said in a high pitched, surprised voice.
"Shooting people," Jack said, and took a couple of potshots over the barrier. "Who the hell are you?"
"Jack," the man said with a trace of hurt. "It's me."
"Gonna have to be more specific than that," Jack said, sighting down his gun. "I know a lot of me's."
"Oh, right, the face."
Jack's head whipped around at that. He scanned the man in front of him, young, pretty mouth, thick hair, wearing, good god, a bow tie and tweed. "Doctor?"
The man grinned.
