It had been a week since Tails had left the hospital and the cold of winter had finally befallen Mobius. Dreary grey clouds had begun to creep across the sky as a light snowfall began to dust the landscape. Common wintertime blues began to set in with some Mobians at the coming of the uncomfortable weather and the dreary scenery.
Yet somehow, Tails felt at peace. After all that had happened in the past three weeks he had finally reached a point where his depression no longer controlled him. Although he still felt sadness at loosing Cosmo, he took comfort in her request to live and be happy. Even if he could not do it for himself, he would still do it for her. This, along with the comfort of his friends, gave him something to live for.
At this time when most Mobians were inside trying to keep warm, Tails was outside constructing the vivarium that he had planed on building. He had started only a day after he had returned from the hospital and was nearly finished. Due to the cold weather

Vanilla the Rabbit sat quietly in her living room recliner sipping her cup of tea. She gave a long sigh as she set the cup down on the coffee table and stood making her way down the hall to her daughter's room. She opened the door and walked into the unoccupied room with a downcast expression on her face. While looking over the room she noticed a small ruffle in her daughter's bedspread. Walking over to the bed she gave the blanket a slight tug to straighten out the minor imperfection. She then left the room being sure to close the door behind her. Walking back to the living room she once again sat down in the recliner and reached over to the end table next to her picking up a small picture frame.
She looked at the picture within to see the smiling faces of Cream the Rabbit and her pet Chao Cheese. A small tear leaked down her cheek as she stared at the photograph of her daughter. Six months had passed and she had heard no word from her. Her time was usually spent caring for her daught

It was late at night. After the unusual encounter with the cloaked figure, the doctors had decided to forbid visitors until they could determine that Tails was in a stable condition. Sonic, Amy, Shadow, and Vanilla sat in the waiting room anxiously awaiting word on Tails' wellness while also pondering the actions of the cloaked figure. Up until this point they had considered the unknown figure to be a threat to be dealt with, but now were beginning to have second thoughts. Through some unknown means the figure had managed to revive Tails' dying body and save his life. These actions came into contradiction with his previous ones of stealing the Chaos Emeralds and harassing the Freedom Fighters, raising only more questions about his intentions. These thoughts haunted Team Sonic as all they could do was sit, think, and wait.
Immediately after leaving the emergency room, Vanilla had called Knuckles to inform him of Tails' revival. Knuckles wasted no time in rushing over to the hospital and

Light pierced the window in Tails' bedroom and caused him to shift in his bed. He slowly opened his eyes and looked around his bedroom wondering how he ended up in his bed. He then remembered his breakdown at the beach and Sonic flying him home in the X Tornado.
"I must have fallen asleep," he said to himself climbing out of bed. He walked into his bathroom and looked himself over in the mirror. His eyes were crusted over from having cried himself to sleep and his fur was dirty and unkempt. He did not care. Nothing seemed to matter to him anymore.
Then he remembered his flower, the one thing that still mattered to him, the thing that might yet return his happiness to him. He quickly dashed out of the bathroom to check on its condition. He entered the bedroom and looked around only to find that it was not there. He began to panic until he remembered that the last place he had seen it was in his living room. The next two days were spent in nervous anticipation. The disappearance of the Chaos Emeralds as a result of the appearance of a new dark persona only added to the already immense stress of dealing with Tails' depression. A feeling of foreboding hung over the team, and prompted them to keep an even closer watch over the remaining Chaos Emeralds. After two days of waiting for something to happen, Sonic finally decided to have everyone meet at Vanilla's house to discuss the situation.
Upon arrival at Vanilla's house, everyone quietly took a seat in the living room as they anxiously waited for Sonic to begin speaking. Shadow had chosen to remain with the picnic blanket, propping his neck against the cooler and closing his eyes. Erik left Charles to sleep, knowing that he was still not getting as much as he should. Every time he looked at Charles, a little piece of his heart died with the knowledge of his past, and that he was dying right before Erik's eyes. The sun was shining fully through the large windows bathing the hallways with warm light. February was coming to an end, and soon the snow and cold would be washed away by the warmth of the sun.
When Erik entered the dining room once more, he found the others strangely calm. No one questioned him about Charles. No snide comments, no scolding from Raven or Hankthey just sat in their seats, eating, making quiet conversation with one anotherthe vomit had been cleaned up from the floor. Hank, Erik thought as he peered around the room, passing behind each chair until Angel stopped him with a small sympathetic smile.

This time when Charles awoke, it was not from nightmares, but from the sun streaming through the small part in the curtains that had been pulled over the windows by Erik the night before. He winced as the light hit his face and put an arm over his sky blue eyes, trying to block the brightness of the morning. He never had been a morning person. Though people expected it of him, he was what some people might call a night owl: staying up into the wee hours of the morning and then waking up when most people were getting ready to have lunch.
As he lay there in bed, he chuckled, remembering how Raven would have to wake him on the weekends, so his stepfather wouldn't. However, then, thoughts of that man entered his mind once more and he winced, thinking of how horrid it was, the way that man awoke him. He knew Raven had walked in on him once and had screamed at what she had seen. He'd erased her memory later, putting a new one in place of the old, one that did not involve witnessing the rape

How dare he Erik thought. His arms tightened protectively around the sleeping telepath on his chest. What Charles had shown him hours earlierthe images of pain, despair, and anguishwas enough to keep Erik awake throughout half the night, burning with rage and hatred for the man who had caused it. He knew there wasn't a way to erase the scars of the past; he knew that better than anyone in the world. But if he could, he would. For Charles. How dare he.
As Erik looked down at Charles, there was no doubt in his mind that he had been forgiven. Before knowing Charles's past, before the rage had returned in full force directed to the dead Kurt Marko, in the few precious moments that Charles had been willing to try, Erik had felt the love that the other man had poured out for him and knew that everything was going to be alright from that moment on. He was forgiven. He had Charles. So why did it feel like something was wrong? Nothing's wrong, he thought as he bru

The holidays had passed in the Xavier mansion with little to no celebration. Christmas came and went with the giving of anonymous presents, left by the receiver's bedroom doors or at their place on the kitchen table. Hank brought in a tree and decorated it with Alex and Sean, but there were no gifts beneath it on Christmas morning and no one was really all that surprised.
Ever since Erik had left him a second time, Charles had been sitting in one of the winged backed chairs by the window in his study, staring out at the snow covered grounds, wondering if the pain in his heart would ever vanish. The more he watched the cardinals eat the seeds Hank threw out for them, the more he gazed at the sun making its way slowly across the sky, the more he began sleeping in his study instead of his bedroom, the more he began to realize that things would probably never become easier to handle.
It was now New Years Eve and he was there again, staring out the window, watching the world as well as his

After he awoke, Charles rolled into the kitchen to get glass of water, a bottle of scotch and stare wistfully up the stairs as he pushed himself back into his study. He forced himself to turn away, to keep his gaze fixated on the ground and not on what was behind him. He could not go up those stairs, he could never again see the bedroom that had been his ever since he was a small child and he was going to have to get used to that, understand that, though he did not want to.
You will never walk again, Mr. Xavier. I'm sorry.
That was what the doctors had told him when, they believed, he was well enough to understand what it meant. It was not as if he hadn't before. He knew what they were saying. He was a scientist. He had studied at Oxford University from the time he was eighteen until he was twenty-four. He knew what it meant when there was a GSW to the lower spine.
Now, back in his study, he poured himself a full glass of scotch and almost downed the whole thing in one swallow.

Charles stared out the window, watching Erik leave his mansion for the second time in less than a week. He wanted to call out to him, tell him to stop walking, to come back, to stay with him, but he would not hear him. He knew this. He could call out to him with his mind. He could force him to stay, but he knew that if he did this, he would regret it. Erik would leave if he found out he had been forced to remain for the short time he did and it would be him, Charles that would then be begging for forgiveness, not the metal-bender.
I won't make you stay. I could but I won't
The words he had spoke to Erik the night he nearly left the CIA research facility, floated through his mind. As he thought about it now, he supposed he had said these words because he already knew that Erik was on the brink of deciding to remain at the facility with them. With him. And he knew all he had to do was show him that he could be trusted. Then, he was sure he would stay. He had been right.

"Hey, you're a tough guy. Now stop fidgeting."
In the living room of the EP House, everyone was watching the current doctoring of Gideon's broken arm by Claris, who had arrived beforehand just as Brünhilde said. Azalea stood next to the collapsible table Gideon was laying on belly-down. She gazed at him nonstop as Claris stood on the other end of the cushioned table maneuvering Gideon's arm. Gideon grunted.
"Azalea," he said. "I'm sure there is something else you can be doing to occupy yourself right now."
"But Azalea wants to see you get better," Azalea said with a smile. "Maybe if Claris fixes your arm, Azalea will see a smile on your face."

Sorius skeptically looked upon Michael as he slowly paced through his infamous and well-kept garden. His blind movements never treaded off the beaten paths that ran through it in many places. The numerous plants gave off exhilarating colors that seemed to almost leap off the petals and stems and dance in the rays of sunshine that fell down from the sky overhead. Michael walked through it all, his left hand dragging on the side of him just a couple of inches from the growing plants and flowers, as if he was grazing his hand against them without actual contact. But there was a certain air about Michael, an air that went farther than the fact that he knew his hand was floating above flowers. Michael smiled as if he literally saw his beautiful garden by sense.
"What did you want to talk about, Sorius?" Michael asked Sorius, who stood at the house's open patio door.

The many booths were mostly empty, dotted with a person or two in every other booth, sipping on a beverage of alcohol or snacking on a bowl of stale peanuts. EP Story - Kidnappings Pt. 12The sun beat down mercilessly on the inner city, clouds dodging its bright path completely. City folk seemed to bustle and commute in a denser fashion at this time of day; the sidewalks were blanketed with people moving to cabs, buses and nearby stores. Stieg could care less about the heat, though. It was running past 2:40 pm, as he could see from one of the high clock towers, and his drive to find Mina still hadn't died down. Unfortunately his energy didn't have the same strength as his drive. He dragged his feet along the pavement, shoving pedestrians out of the way at this point and ignoring the sweat dripping into his eyes. He hadn't taken a break yet at all, and there was no sense in sugar-coating it: with his sweating and being out all night, Stieg reeked. Mina was the only one up. She sat in a visible corner in the living room, holding on to a bottle of wine and trying desperately to keep her eyelids up. Every now and then she'd let out a small belch, prompting her to dispel a quiet "Excuse me" in a slurred voice to no one in particular. Mina was drunk.
In front of her lay an unconscious pile-up consisting of Stieg, Isis, Tabby, and Kris. Stieg was in handcuffs and the girls all held on to half empty bottles and wore police hats. Sai was passed out over Ari, a chewed tube of lipstick hanging out of

Streetlights illuminated the lonely streets, expelling a glow that lit up the neighborhood with an orange-tinted halo. Harmon stared out of this window, deeply immersed in thought. As he sat on his bed gazing, his muscle-bound shirtless body twitched in small spasms. Fists bobbed up and down on his bouncing knees. The thoughts in his head were conflicting pretty badly with what he wanted his thoughts to be of.

Harmon's dark pants were heavy in design and littered with buckles and deep pockets, but he kept them on as he lifted his legs onto his bed. He reclined on his right side and continued to stare out of the window. There was a full moon out tonight, and thanks to a cloudless night sky, moonl

Then when he was in the kitchen he couldn't find the salt. He shut the cupboard and turned around only to get smacked in the back of the head as it flew open. He turned, glared at it, and shut it. It stayed for 3.2 seconds before it popped open again. He slammed it which caused a different cupboard door to open. He reached over and very carefully shut it. Both popped open the minute he released it. His clenched his fists a moment before smacking them both closed with open palms. Which caused the fridge to open. Gai was going on about one of his and Kakashi's challenges, animatedly and loudly telling the story to the spiky-haired brunet sitting beside him at the curry stand. This tale involved goats and pocky, although Iruka was having trouble deciphering exactly how the two were even connected, let alone how they knew who won. He considered asking Kakashi, but, despite the fact that Gai used very flowery language, he was often a bit more straight-forwards; so, Iruka doubted he'd get a better answer from his boyfriend.
"Of course they are; I to

"The place is enormous," Anders groused from a step behind her. "Pick a corner, any corner."
"Don't be absurd," Morrigan cajoled low in her throat. "It's not that big." Despite her dismissive words, the witch's eyes glowed with an eagerness Soraya had not witnessed since presenting her with Flemeth's grimoire. There was precious little in the world her friend enjoyed more than books to feed her ravenous mind; a new spell, an undisclosed bit of forbidden lore or history thrilled her.
Like the corridor outside, the lore library was long, arched and tucked into some forgotten part of the keep's topmost floor. The ceiling was a series of concave arches braced by stone pillars. Feeble light descended without conviction from leaded glass sky lights overhead, obscured by a layer of snow that drifted to and fro in the wind like clumps of tiny feathers.
Soraya's gaze dropped down, her
Dragon Age: Progeny Ch. 40"They'll be safer here," Teagan assured Alistair as he led his nephew through the narrow entrance of the Bann's modest Denerim manor. Easily lost at the edge of the royal quarter among the more opulent estates, it was two stories of gray stone and steep slate roof. Flickering light danced behind a handful of windows open to relieve the heat of the day, tones of filtered sepia spilling into the courtyard. "How many?" Alistair asked, and was instantly relieved that Teagan didn't take offense to his sharp query. The man was intent on putting Alistair at ease; if his calm, assured demeanor wasn't pronouncement enough, the house guards visible in every shadow and corridor were. Teagan was taking no chances. Even so, Alistair couldn't shake his wariness.
Several of Soraya's would-be assassins survived. The men refused to speak, even when Morrigan's interrogation methods made everyone else but Alistair leave the room; he knew who was b

The King stared down into the still water in the marble bowl, staring blankly at a shadowy reflection of a face that seemed faintly familiar to him: a younger face, ever ready with a wry grin, a pert remark or a stupid joke, and eyes that reflected excitement, contentment and pride at having finally found a place where he belonged the tight-knit fraternity of the Grey Wardens.
And now . He raised his head, regarding the man looking back at him from the mirror. The glass reflected a much clearer view: a neglected reddish-gold beard in dire need of a trim, and brown eyes that seemed weary, beaten. His heart sank at realizing how different he appeared from the young man he had been, the one he could barely remember.
The King had returned from Redcliffe to a city that w
Dragon Age: Progeny Ch. 1"Did you hear that?" Leliana asked softly, silently slipping an arrow from her quiver. She did it without pause, without thinking, her bright blue eyes trained on the tree line further down the trail. Zevran came to stand beside the bard, penetrating, amber eyes narrowed as he searched the underbrush for movement. He shook his head. "I hear nothing but the wind in the trees," he answered under his breath. "That does not mean something is not there." He turned to look over his shoulder, shooting a silent question at the mage who walked behind them.
Soraya paused, her gaze following Leliana's for a moment. Rontu was at her side, growling low in his throat. "I don't sense darkspawn," she told them. "But Rontu is grumbling about something. He agrees with you two. There's something up ahead, and it's not good, whatever it is."
"Do we go around, or move ahead?" Zevran asked, sliding twin daggers from scabbards
Dragon Age: Progeny Ch. 7Soraya worked, unmindful of the heat, the sweat soaking her clothes and hair, absently brushing it out of her eyes when they began to sting from the salt. The droplets mingled with her tears as they slowed, then renewed each time she looked over at Bertrand. She had laid him down on his back. If she didn't know better, she would have thought he was merely napping through the hottest part of the day, as often was his custom.Dragon Age: Progeny Ch. 7 in Drama More Like This
The mage turned to his underground den and paused at the opening. She wondered if she should leave his home as it was. Even after so many years had passed, he still permitted no one entrance. She felt as though she was betraying her old friend by trespassing, and silently begged his forgiveness.
Soraya ducked into Bertrand's stump, cramped and stifling, and was surprised to find it much bigger than she expected. He had dug out quite a bit, and it was almost as large as an aravel's interior. Errant roots had been hacked away to reveal clay walls and a floor that he h

Leliana held a hand inches above gray ashes in the fire pit. "Still warm," she murmured. "These imbeciles know nothing of woods lore." She proceeded to kick dirt over the smoldering ashes to extinguish them. Methys paused next to her, then frowned as she looked down and saw twin ruts deep in the soft soil several steps away. She followed them with her eyes as they led away from the fire, and then with her feet as she caught sight of the narrow, rusted cage at the edge of camp.
"Not too far, Methys," Morrigan cautioned her daughter, who nodded. The mage watched her for a moment, the child's amber eyes intent on the ground, scanning the site for any evidence that Soraya, Alissa and Rontu had been there. As she came to stand next to Leliana, Morrigan chewed her lower lip, thinking, calculating distance and time, destination and assault strategies. "How many

Soraya realized as soon as they crossed into the Anderfels that she had no real concept of the word.
They paused to rest after coming up what seemed an endless, steep ascent through a narrow pass, exiting onto a wide lip of stone and packed earth. She, along with the oxen and everyone else who climbed the trail on foot, was winded and gusting like a forge bellows. Bent in half to stretch stiffened, abused muscles in the backs of her legs, she was grateful for a moment to recover.
Still wary of an ambush, she straightened and studied their surroundings, searching for likely hiding places. The path ran between a rocky cut in the hillside and a steep cliff that overlooked a rolling plain. Seeing no threat in the rocks, she turned. Her lips parted in astonishment, her burning lungs and trembling limbs forgotten when presented with a view of the final leg of their journey.

"Are you well?" Zevran asked her after a moment.
Soraya answered with a small shrug and a frown. "I should be. I've healed. But ."
"It's all right," he soothed when her voice faltered. "This kind of healing may take time, Raya."
Frustration tightened her mouth and deepened the fold between her brows. Leliana had told him about the nightmares, the pacing, the numb silences. He sensed that the mage's weeping had done its work, if only for a short while. Learning how to live without magic might take her as long at it had for her to become a mage. The process would be long, arduous.
"How much time?" Impatience sharpened the tone of her query. "I need to be me again. To protect myself, my daughter."
"I do not know," he pronounced, stretching his legs out befo
Dragon Age: Progeny Ch. 37Soraya rose at tenth hour, agreed to something to eat, a bath, and a change of clothes. She woke in the middle of the night, hearing the breeze shift the draperies and the hiss and pop of flames in the hearth. Morrigan slept on the other side of the large bed, with Alissa and Methys between them. They seemed content, and she felt a pang of envy.
"You're awake. How do you feel?" Alistair was sitting in a chair next to the bed, between her and the window. The sky was clear, the stars bright and cold in the night sky.
She turned her head, unable to answer. She felt sore and tired and empty, when she should be overjoyed. Everyone that meant anything at all to her was by her side or within shouting distance, safe, unharmed. She felt afraid and angry, mostly at herself.
"Don't do that." She felt Alistai

The blood soaking her clothes and smeared on her pale skin stood out like ink on snow. Her lids were closed, her limp, crimson-stained hand curled in his. Only the barely perceptible, but steady, rise and fall of her breast reassured him that she still breathed.
Dark bruises colored the sides of Soraya's neck, and Alistair recognized the long shape of fingers. There were other signs of her struggle with the Knight Commander livid scrapes on her elbows and arms, split and swollen lips. He forced himself to inspect the wound just below her breastbone, and his jaw tightened.
Alistair glared at the lump beneath the bloodstained indigo coverlet three paces away, wishing Cullen were still alive and whole so he could beat him to death with his bare hands.
Perhaps sensing the anger that tightened his muscles, Soraya stirred, murmuring wordlessly. Alistair quieted his rage, soothing he
