SNIPPY: evidence"Blasted mug!"
I looked at it hatefully.
"This is all your fault!"
I attempted to throw the mug at the Arbitrator, to smash it, to let go of it.
Nothing of the sort was possible.
I flailed left and right. The mug did not budge. I could not let it go, no matter how hard I tried. It was as if it were glued to me with a strange static-like substance. It rolled between my fingers and from one hand to the other, but it was as if I were made of iron and the mug were a powerful rare-earth magnetic bearing coated with oil.
Why can't I let go of the mug?!
Did the Arbitrator's reconstruction of my organs have anything to do with this?
Upon giving up to prying the mug out of my hands, I turned to the Arbitrator and spoke.
I made my case calmly and clearly, pressuring various facts that my DNA couldn't possibly be on the mug and that I looked nothing like Captain and that it might as well scan my memories for evidence or something of that sort.

No, it was showing me what it could see and feel, what my limited human vision could not.

There is a lonely figure standing in the street.
No matter how hard I try to make out his or her expression, I cannot. Is there no face there at all? Or perhaps there is a million human faces there, intertwined and flickering in unison, as bright as the light of ten thousand suns?

Internet TimeWe had the Oscars recently and as usual it wasn't without problems. One of the controversies was Chris Rock's biting commentary about doing voice work for animated films, which was unfortunately insulting to the many hard working (yet perpetually unknown) talents who produce about 90% of all voice work in the animated medium. Chris Rock's joke was funny for his circle of friends and the aging academy, but to younger artists and professionals it was very disrespectful. Voice actress Tara Strong took particular issue with Rock's comment and as we speak his twitter account is no doubt being flooded with angry hate messages and likely racism too... which is very unfortunate. http://www.examiner.com/african-american-entertainment-in-national/tara-strong-attacks-chris-rock-over-oscar-2012-animation-comments-quotesInternet Time in Personal More Like This

Perception on the InternetYour average user on the internet can generally say whatever they want about an issue. It's alright to voice an opinion because no one is really going to track you down and attack you for having one (unless you're doing it in a really really public place like a forum or chat room). However, as I've become somewhat popular online, I've noticed a perception from people that I must maintain a neutral and unbiased outlook at all times on every issue.Perception on the Internet in Personal More Like This
Regardless of what that issue is I'm not generally free to express my opinion without first listing a whole bunch of qualifiers for "why" I feel this way, or by making it very clear that it's OK for you to disagree. You are not allowed to "sum up" an experience, and it's greatly discouraged for you to generalize. I've notice that this mentality has greatly affected my writing style as it forces me to tip toe very carefully around every issue I address.
Using my most famous example: I am not allowed to say that I enjoyed Metroid: Othe

I wish I could say I am surprised about this, but sadly the whole media frenzy surrounding violence in video games and movies reminds me of something that already happened once and profoundly affected the media it was accusing: Comic books.
During the early days of comic books, things occasionally got a little risqué. EC Horror comics in particular delighted in rendering extremely gruesome images and disturbing themes in their comics, which were being sold to children unbeknownst to their parents (because naive parents at the time had no reason to suspect comics might contain "inappropriate" material). However all that changed in 1954.

Trying to figure out the Zelda timeline has been a geek pastime for decades, and it's only been made more desirable thanks to Nintendo releasing cryptic responses of both "yes we have one" to "no we don't" over the years. With the caveat that this might all be bunk because it's too early to tell just yet, here is how Nintendo sees the Zelda timeline: http://wii.ign.com/articles/121/1215301p1.html
First up you need to understand one thing... there IS a split in the timeline thanks to Ocarina of Time. Yes the split timeline theory IS correct... sort of. What you probably didn't know is that the split isn't into two alternate timelines resulting from the different endings... but actually THREE timelines. Let me explain...

John Carter of Mars
John Carter was a troubled movie in every sense of the word. It was given enormous studio backing, wasn't publicized well, and generally was a box office failure, resulting in a key Disney executive to resign in disgrace.
I won't say that it's the best movie I've ever seen, but it's far far above average and it frustrates me that people didn't see it or take to it. It offers so much wonderful imagery and possibilities for filmmaking it would be a shame to see this potentially new (in the sense that it's new to the big screen) franchise die right at the start.
There are a few weak actors, primarily the Mars princess, but they still nevertheless keep the story running at a nice pace. Plus there a
Sexism in Gaming Culture LINKSSo... that last journal was a doosie wasn't it? 500+ comments and counting! Yikes. I can always count on Anita Sarkeesian to give me tons of views, lol. All joking aside, that was a very serious batch of discussions. Anytime we talk about sexism and objectification of women in gaming or geek culture, it's sure to get a lot of responses.Sexism in Gaming Culture LINKS in Personal More Like This
Sadly since Anita is such a hot-topic around the internet, there was more than one person who were trying to claim that there actually isn't ANY issue with the game industry involving sexism at all. To them, this whole idea that women are marginalized or objectified or treated badly both in the gaming industry and in geek culture is just false. It doesn't exist. And any attempt to explain why we need to change things is inherently flawed because there's no reason to do so.
So in the interest of trying to debunk that bullshit, I made a list of sources I accumulated around the internet to prove that this is indeed a problem. I think everyone can benefit f
Sorry Mario BrosSorry Mario BrosSorry Mario Bros in Personal More Like This
Say what you will about Anita Sarkeesian, you gotta admit that people do take note of what she says for good or ill. In this piece of news, it's for the good.
As you might already know, in her latest video she outlined a simple "damsel frees herself" video game. Nothing too spectacular but it showcased how one can subvert the typical trope and make a strong female character out of it. While many were quick to criticize her for not making the game herself (given her kickstarter success), others took a more direct approach and actually made a game in 2 weeks.
The game is called "Sorry Mario Bros," and the plot is that Princess Peach decides to rescues herself by leaving Bowser's castle in world 8-4. You progress right to left through familiar, but slightly altered, original Mario Bros. worlds working your way backwards towards world 1-1. Along the way you can take detours and use Peach's float ability to reach hidden areas and collect "princess coins."
Ode to the WiiMy last journal seems to have gone over pretty well. So since the Wii is slowly starting to come to a close before Nintendo's next big console release (The Wii U), I thought it would be fun to talk about games which are for the Wii and which might've been overlooked for one reason or another.Ode to the Wii in Personal More Like This
It should be noted that not ALL of these are the most AMAZING and BEST GAMES EVER! But I do think that at least 90% of these games should at least be looked at. If you have a Wii and complain that it doesn't have any games that interest you, I strongly recommend you go through this list. If you see a game you haven't heard about or played, rent it and try it out for yourself. There are a lot of gems which didn't get any press or were generally overlooked because of excessive amounts of "shovel-ware" titles clouding up retail stores.
The general perception of the Wii is that there aren't any good games for it. Prove the naysayers wrong and check these titles out. The best part? Most of these titles

I have to admit, I'm guilty of not browsing all of the galleries as much as I should. I love the Artisan Crafts world and I often get lost in its galleries and forget about the rest, so this time I went through all of the galleries looking for awesome art for this article, and I discovered forms of art I didn't even know about! It was a fantastic experience and I hope this series of articles will encourage you to do the same.

The chaptered comic strip, has been collected into a 100-page graphic novel – and to the still-uninitiated:
It is not quite like anything you’ve probably ever seen before. The story follows “Zee Captain” and his sidekicks as they amble through a post-apocalyptic landscape. And while that hardly seems new and different, it’s the unusually superlative graphic quality of the comic cells and the Monty Pythonesque dialogues and leaps of logic that can become quite mesmerizing. Zee Captain, his face hidden by a gas mask that gives him a Darth Vaderish look, wears what looks like a Soviet Red Army uniform from WWII, and the strip does have nourish WWII feel. It’s as if the nuclear holocaust on Hiroshima and Nagasaki had never ended and spread to every major city on Earth. But
Engage Wonderment: Odyssey - Phase TwoGreetings Everyone. Over the last six weeks I have been plotting, planning, and researching all of the ways we might efficiently and effectively go about publishing Odyssey this year in book form. In an effort to bring back the best possible counsel before embarking on this process I have spoken with multiple publishers, printers, designers, distributors, and authors that I have worked with in the past.Engage Wonderment: Odyssey - Phase Two in Personal More Like This

Odyssey Update 1This first weekend of reading and re-reading Odyssey selections was just as intensely rewarding as last year. I am incredibly grateful to once again be able to share this process with all of you. Having Clive Barker on board for Odyssey II is truly an enlightening and educative experience. There is nothing more thrilling than reading through each of the entries and then re-reading the chapters that truly resonate and carry with them immense writing skill. This story could have gone in so many worthy directions and genres, and there was no end to the creativity and storytelling skill on so many of the submissions.Odyssey Update 1 in DeviantART Announcements More Like This
The people in my life were adequately warned, but there were still those that questioned my sanity and work methods as I stayed up for the duration of the weekend meticulously poring over eachof the entries... then starting over and reading them again.
Authentic CitizenshipOnce Again, The Room Fell Away. The prodigious artistic and cultural exchange that we have all committed ourselves to building, to participating in and to sharing with each other every day at deviantART often occurs in RL on the decks of HQ as well. One of the best aspects of being in my position here at deviantART is the privilege to curate salons with artists of every medium and success level imaginable, art appreciators, writers, and educators from all points of light within the deviantART community inviting them to make the trek to HQ for what always manifests as an inspiring, thoughtful, educative, and enlightening dialogue. But sometimes, sometimes, things rise to a whole other level. You suddenly find yourself magically reaching that special deviantART "destination" that is a connection point of art, life, community and communication that has no specific Office # designation. Odyssey Propulsion 2The parasite that is monstrously mutating Paul offers an alliance against Maya, Paul’s other dubious “protector.”Odyssey Propulsion 2 in DeviantART Announcements More Like This
The parasite is Tal’Shen, spawn of Lysanna, hunted forerunner of an ancient aquatic-based intergalactic Cthulhuian-type race once again knocking on Earth’s door. Which “female” is Paul to trust? Is the fate of humanity in question or is this all the hallucinatory fever dream of a dying man?
Only four more chapters! Yet so many questions!
The pressure points have been set: self-survival, self-sacrifice for a greater cause, transmission of a vision of species survival and renewal, trust and deceit in equal measures possible in each relationship. Now it’s time to for the penultimate Big Reveal as to what it’s all about – to set up the Ultimate Big Reveal to what it’s really all about! There’s just time and space enough for you, oh skilled and deviou

Whose story will Paul trust – Maya’s or Lysanna’s?
Is Paul really just a random victim or has there always been a special fate or predetermined bit of prophecy awaiting him which is now about to be revealed?
There are only three more chapters left, three delicious spaces to be filled in our attempt to achieve literary immortality… Well, at least, in our attempt to achieve creating a story to be told around summer campfires to scare the hell out of the new kids. What we need is a mind-melting fate or test to now be revealed to Paul, one which he must decide to accept or take flight from, one with worldwide consequences for the human race as well as Paul’s own singular soul, one with a real possibility of leaving only eternal madness as its legacy. We want to especially thank an elite core of Odyssey II writers:
Those deviants truly embodying the spirit of the project by continuing to create and submit next chapters – no matter the story’s refusal to go along with their proposed direction. The zeitgeist is a powerful force, but the artist must know when to sail against the been-there-done-that. And our writers, artists and poets have been doing that week after week. So many artists and writers continue to send in wonderful material week after week.
We have decided to extend the writing deadline for the last chapter to December 31 and we're
The Dead Places: The Visual Delicacy of DecayIt’s easy to think of art in terms of what is instantly pleasing to the eye, of that which evokes a feeling of joy and hopefulness and blissful peacefulness or ecstatic exultation. This is the consideration of art as something that helps propel us forward through life – to out future great deeds, our career victories, or dreams of coming big events. But there is a peak to every life. At some point all people, and all places, and even all ideas have to begin the inevitable decline that is the other balancing half of a lifetime. The Dead Places: The Visual Delicacy of Decay in DeviantART Announcements More Like This

About Artists on Writers
Writers will always find inspiration in the visions of artists, always feeling compelled to tell the stories behind the moments captured in artists’ unforgettable images,
Artists will always find inspiration in the words of writers, always feeling compelled to lend visual reality and habitat to the characters described in the scribe’s haunting words.
If the severely acne-scarred face and coarse exterior brought on by his alcoholic and depressed life was the book cover of his being, then Charles was the ultimate book that could not be judged by its cover. The exquisite collection that was this everyman artist’s art consisted of thousands of poems, hundreds of short stories and six novels—mostly all wrenchingly autobiographical, mos

“When I left high school, I had all my plans to go to college, but I had no money. And I decided then, the best thing for me to do is not worry about getting money to go to college — I will educate myself. I walked down the street, I walked into a library, I would go to the library three days a week for ten years and I would educate myself. It’s all FREE, that’s the great thing about libraries! Most of you can afford to go to college, but if you wanna educate yourself completely, go to the library and educate yourself. When I was 28 years old, I graduated from Library.”
— Ray Bradbury
So spoke the recently departed Ray Bradbury, a seminal (possibly the seminal) American fantasy & science fiction writer. Today, aspiring sci-fi and fantasy writers study his novels and short stories as their core ed

WHAT IS DEVIANT DISCOVERY?
Deviant Discovery is a weekly Journal Feature that focuses specifically on Deviants that have good art, but haven't gotten much attention for it. Every week, a new Deviant will be chosen, and a few of their artworks will be show in this Journal, along with a description of the artist themselves. This weekly feature will serve as an attempt to get under-appreciated artists more attention then they already have.
HOW DOES IT WORK?
It will work in a similar way to Daily Deviations - either I could select a Deviant myself, or someone could be suggested by another Deviant. Once a Deviant is chosen, we'll find their best five Deviations to be featured in the Journal. Then, we'll give a short description of the artist's work, and a small explanation of why they were chosen. The feature will remain on the front of my page for seven days [168 hours; one week], so that the Deviant can get continuous attention. Suggestions could be s
