Apophysis 7X 15C - Installer available nowI have made an installer for Apophysis 7X 15C available at xyrus-worx.orgApophysis 7X 15C - Installer available now in Personal More Like This
Please be aware that this installer is for Microsoft Windows only. It comes in two versions: for the 32 bit and the 64 bit version of Apophysis 7X 15C. The two versions can be installed side-by-side. Even in a single folder (but be careful - you might not want to uninstall the 32 bit version if you have the 64 bit version in the same folder so I recommend keeping the folders separate)
Unlike for the ZIP-package, 32- and 64 bit version do not come in a single file!
Currently, the german, italian and chinese language packs are shipped with the installer. The other language packs are outdated and for the vanilla version 7x15 only.
The 32 bit-installer offers you to install a collection of DC-plugins as well as two sample scripts. Please mind that upon uninstallation, these plugin .DLL-files will be removed even if they were there before. This also app
MyFlame.at - going live!I have teased you with a secret project going on in the last days and now it is time to reveal what was cooking! I present you: MyFlame.at - a new, sleek yet rich web application to share your fractal flames with your friends and fellow fractal artists!MyFlame.at - going live! in Personal More Like This
It works like PasteBin - paste an Apophysis-fractal into the box and you will have a short link to the fractal in the top right corner to give your friends so they can grab the flame you shared. But not only that. It also features:
Author tagging - if you wish so, you can tag the fractal you shared with your Facebook-profile. This is optional but useful if you want to assist people in properly crediting you if they decide to tweak your work. If you paste fractal parameters which already have been shared using this application into the box, it will "recycle" the link being created before and also maintain the correct author tag.
Meta information - MyFlame.at automatically parses the fractal
Apophysis 7X 15C - Hotfixes #2!An updated version of Apophysis 7X15C is hitting the servers right now. The changes are:Apophysis 7X 15C - Hotfixes #2! in Personal More Like This
+ Added possibility to specify a custom plugin path for the 32 bit version
+ Fixed bipolar variation (wrong constant used in preparation routine - M_2_PI is not 2 * PI. Thanks, Fred!)
+ Fixed "X"-button next to the search field
+ Fixed a memory leak in the renderer
+ Changed the 32 bit version to use 32 bit-floats (instead of double precision = 64 bit floats) which results in less memory use in the 32 bit version and higher image quality in the 64 bit version
+ Changed Chaotica integration so that 64 bit Chaotica is enforced if 64 bit Apophysis is running
I'm sorry for the update frequency but that's how it is in the first days after a new major release! People are actively tracking bugs and report the results to me. And I fix them and release hotfixesOnce we - as a community - tracked down all the (not so hidden) bugs, the update frequency will drop to normal again

Apophysis 7X Console Renderer - UPDATE 2For all the techies (and animators) out there: I have something for you! I present: a console interface for Apophysis 7X! Now you can easily batch, script and stack your renders. Here are some core features:Apophysis 7X Console Renderer - UPDATE 2 in Personal More Like This
Stable multithreading for single-, dual-, quad-, hexa- and octa-core systems
Render your flame files as if they were a set of keyframes (like with Apophymator) - even with different amounts of transforms per flame
Make use of automatic plugin downloading (and the massive heap of new built-in variations)
Experience faster rendering through optimization of the rendering core
This build features a set of variations which were built-in from existing plugins (to reduce the need of .DLL plugins):
- log (derived from *zy0rg's logn plugin; includes the "base" variable)
- polar2
- cross
- wedge
- epispiral (derived from *cyberxaos' Epispiral plugin; corrected name to be all-lowercase as defined by the naming convention)
- bwraps (derived from bwraps2; removed the "2" in the name)

Apophysis 7X 15C - Hotfixes #8!To excuse myself from the artificial hoax from earlier, I have a hotfix release for 15C for youApophysis 7X 15C - Hotfixes #8! in Personal More Like ThisHere the changes:
+ Fixed two strings regarding the Chaotica integration. They were always english. The language files have been adjusted accordingly.
+ Fixed the "dot"-bug with the waves2-, noise- and crop-variations (and possibly more) occuring when you use multithreaded rendering. The origin was a structural misconception with the opacity handling. It now works smooth & fine! No corrupted renders in my own tests. If you have some after this release, please report!
+ Added file type registration scripts in the portable (ZIP)-package

Poll summary: Installer or ZIP-packageI recently raised the poll "Installer or ZIP-package?" here. Now it's time to take a summary out of the answers!Poll summary: Installer or ZIP-package in Personal More Like This
I noticed that some of you wanted to answer "both" but that was not the questionI was asking what you were using to install 7x on your hard disk. That's why "both" was not in the clickable range of answers
The results were kind of equal. 52% of you are using an installer, the rest is using the ZIP-package. So my conclusion here is that the installer needs to come back.
And it will.
However, plugins will not be installed on your system with the installer anymore. That out of three reasons:
+ Apophysis 7x64 doesn't support them
+ The plugin path is customizable
+ The amount plugins being integrated in the installer before is now integrated in Apophysis itself
Now you need to give me some time to get the installer creation software back up and then I'll compose an installer for you
Apophysis 7X 15C - Hotfixes #5!Aaaand another hotfix release. This time, these problems were addressed:Apophysis 7X 15C - Hotfixes #5! in Personal More Like This
+ Fixed bwraps, pre_bwraps and post_bwraps (potential division by zero) - thanks again, Fred!
+ Added localization support for the curves panel
+ Changed the flame and translation loading/saving code to support and use UTF8 encoding
+ Updated german localization
+ Updated italian localization (with the help of the great `lindelokse - thanks!)

Apophysis 7X 15C - Hotfixes #4!Oh mai, it seems that Apophysis 7X jumped on some kind of rapid-release scheduleApophysis 7X 15C - Hotfixes #4! in Personal More Like This
You kept reporting problems which I of course want to straighten out. This time, mostly about the newly introduced curves feature. I'm pushing updates on a daily basis - when possible - until they are kind of sorted out. At least the critical ones. Here is hotfix #4!
+ Changed color curves feature to use regular cubic béziér splines. They are weighted internally still but you can't change it from the GUI (which is not really necessary anyway...) ... it's kind of a hack, though, to bring you back the original coloring (not so vibrant and glary) but keep the possibility to adjust the color curves. I want to keep the weights - this is why I didn't remove them but it gives me a bit of time to fixing the maths!
+ Moved the curves window into the adjust window
+ Fixed the plugin loader code AGAIN to have the original list item coloring in the 32 bit version (white for basic built-in, blue for bu
Apophysis 7X 15C - Hotfixes #3Two things changed:Apophysis 7X 15C - Hotfixes #3 in Personal More Like This
+ Added color curves dialog
+ Fixed plugin recognition routines. Variations, which were already built-in were loaded anyway which lead to an "Access Violation" storm in the editor. Thanks again ~morphapoph for tracking the origin of the problem in such a masterful way!
The color curves dialog is very simple and straight forward. Works like the one in Photoshop. Or Chaotica. Or GIMP...and it's not perfect. It's a new feature and maybe a bit bugged. But we'll see how much better it gets over time

It's a Vista/7-issue which spawned after using Delphi XE2 as the main compiler (since 15C) You have multiple possibilities:
1. Right click the Apophysis shortcut or EXE-file and select "Properties". Go to the "Compatibility" tab and check "Run as administrator". Try again.
2. Copy your Apophysis folder to the desktop (or "My Documents") and try running it from that location.
3. Go to the control panel and disable UAC ("User account control")
A permanent fix is on the way.
I get a crap ton of access violations when I open Apophysis and/or the Editor window
My assumption is that there is an incompatibility in your settings. Reset them the following way:
1. Exit Apo, hold the Windows-Key and hit "R" on your keyboard. Enter "regedit" and hit return.
2. On the left side, browse to "HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software" and find the folder "Apophysis 7X".
3. Right click that folder and click "Delete".

This release is mainly a bugfix release for the 0.47 beta, with many improvements to the user interface fixing issues such as the fractal not scaling when you changed resolution, imaging settings being spuriously reset and not saved properly etc. Hopefully it's a bit more friendly to use nowIt'll still crash if you try to restore state without having the original params loaded, that'll be fixed in the next release.
Another important change in this build is restored native support for bipolar, thanks to code `XyrusWorx provided from Apo7X15C beta 3. I'm hoping the small difference in handling the divide by zero and negative log etc will finally enable full compatibility - please test this and report if something looks wrong!
Thanks

I've followed `FarDareisMai's suggestion and added realtime camera movement to the interface. Hold in alt, and then drag with the left mouse button to pan, right mouse button (vertically) to zoom. It's still a little buggy, but kinda fun already
This release also includes support for pasting parameters from the clipboard, much the way Apophysis does. So you can just hit Ctrl+C in Apophysis, then Ctrl+V in chaotica and it should begin rendering!
The editor is still being worked on, don't have an ETA but I'm making progress slowly... Linux and Mac builds will also be added Soon (TM).

After numerous delays, an homage to the old days of Doom v1.666
The major bit of news is that, from now on, all releases will happen on Windows, Mac and Linux in parallel. My colleagues at Glare have helped me tremendously in getting Chaotica set up to build right next to Indigo Renderer using a fully automated build system on all platforms, so the days of some platform releases lagging behind are over! A lot of code cleanup and bugfixing (notably saving/loading of final transforms in .chaos format) has gone on between this and the last releas

This mode is now the default editing mode, it works as follows:
- left mouse button: drag the fractal ("CentreX" and "CentreY")
- right mouse button: rotate ("Roll") the fractal
- middle mouse button/mouse wheel: zoom ("Pixels per unit") the fractal
Complete list of changes:
- new interactive view editing mode (move, rotate, zoom)
- color and color symmetry does also affect the new fract_* family of variations
- lots of internal refactoring regarding the dancing flames editor (does not affect current state of features but makes it more easy to add new features soon)

I had started to create an alternative external renderer (specialized to render movies more quickly) in the meantime. This release is something like an "intermediate release". It has lots of internal optimizations, many new plugins to play with and some bugs fixed. But the new renderer is not yet included because this would have been just to much work in this time period.
So this release contains many smaller enhancements and you may look forward for the upcoming V0.53 which will bring up some really new stuff

Major changes where made to the fractal flames generator T.I.N.A. - this time with a complete new feature the interactive renderer. The interactive renderer serves two purposes:
1. Explore random fractals in a really funny way. You can now follow the rendering of a fractal. If you have seen enough just press the NEXT button to get a new randomly generated flame. If you like it you can save it or copy it to the clipboard to tweak it in the main editor. Of course, you can load or paste any (non random) fractal into the interactive renderer.
2. WYSIWYG: Render an image until you are satisfied. Here is no oversampling applied. You can save the image all the time while it still rendering. So you can have a closer look at it to see if its really done, e.g. in a image processing software.

With ReciprocalX,Y,Z functions you can get very awesome variations on IFS formulas, the only problem was that the DE was a lot inaccurate! Particularly in the Navi, the fractal never showed up correctly.
More, the only rotations allowed were multiple of 90°, to keep discontinuities horizontal / vertical...
I solved this annoying problem with reciprocalX3, Y3, Z3 - three new functions! Try them and you will be very surprised.
Even rotations are possible without annoying random cut-planes!
A must try imo. Needless to say; reciprocalX3 is completely different from reciprocalX2 ... There is no way to "convert" them too bad. You must study new parameters!

You may or may not have heard, and perhaps do not care to know that the Actress/Comedienne Phyllis Diller also passed away this past week... some of you are probably too young to really be aware of Ms. Diller, I would bet some of are really too young to know much about Mr. Armstrong... but still its very sad news.

Anyway, I happened to listen to the song "Get 'Em Out By Friday" and was struck by how oddly the lyrics tied into things that are actually happening in the world today... sure, the lyrics at the end of the song go a little further than anyone has gone so far, but honestly, it wouldn't surprise me even a little...
So, just to show what I'm alluding to, here are the lyrics... after reading them, think about the recent housing crises, and about all the wonderful things the Repugnant Party is doing to the lower and middle classes in America lately...

So I decided I have only two alternatives, remove all art from dA, and delete my account, or make an ugly border that states clearly that using my art anywhere else is a violation of copyright, and hope that discourages most of the thieves. So until i can redo every single deviation, they have to remain in storage. I'll re-add each as i get the borders added.
I'm getting really frustrated by all this. Almost beginning to wish they had passed SOPA... not that that would likely help anyone like me... all that piece of crap would do was help huge corporations that already have more money than they need... us little guys would probably still be left to fend for ourse

Big News that only leads to more questions

Today, the US Department of Justice has taken down the New Zealand company MegaUploads on charges of distributing copyrighted materials.
One has to ask, since when does the US DoJ have jurisdiction in NZ?
But even more importantly, if they can do this, what the HELL so we need SOPA/PIPA for?
In other news, this is unsubstantiated at present, but I saw some posts on G+ stating that a group known as "Hactivists" have taken their own action:
"Hacktivists with the collective Anonymous are waging an attack on the website for the White House after successfully breaking the sites for the Department of Justice, Universal Music Group, RIAA and Motion Picture Association of America.

well... I guess we all know what the big news is!So, I guess its name change time on dA...well... I guess we all know what the big news is! in Personal More Like This
Well, I want to assure all my watchers that they need have no fear... I will NOT be changing my name. (Ok, granted, I can't right now anyway, since I don't have a premium account now... but)
I am fraterchaos... my email on yahoo, is fraterchaos, my ID here has always been fraterchaos, if you do a google search for fraterchaos, pretty much everything that comes up will be me... that's MY name, its always been my name.
My Zazzle Store is fraterchaos, my Shadowness account... fraterchaos...about the only thing I have that i use regularly, that isn't fraterchaos is my gmail, and they would not allow me to use that name for some reason... so its a.random.chaos, which is one of my pen names.
So, no, I am not going to change my name... if I need a more professional name at some point in the future, I'll start a new account with the new, more professional name... but fraterchaos will always be here... its pretty much who I am, more than any other name

Well, ok, so as you might have guessed, it seems (or I hope anyway) that the jerk has finally stopped stealing my work. I won't say he's stopped stealing from dA altogether, because its my guess he hasn't.
In fact, I would suggest that all fractal artists, or anyone who does anything that might appeal in any way to "new age" religious nuts, keep an eye on the Galactic Free Press and related websites, because its likely they will steal your work sooner or later.
Also, be aware that another deviant, one l9qw is also involved in this whole mess, he, she or it has a website that is a part of the whole soundofheart web ring (or whatever one wants to call that mess) and spouts the same mindless new age crap. AND of course, is also stealing art from dA, and making exactly the same sort of crap excuses and apologies and saying
