Kelly looked to the man sitting on his cot across from her. He'd stopped sharpening his knife several minutes ago and was now just staring at it. She wasn't sure what was wrong with it but he seemed to be examining it, looking for any flaw. Kelly glanced around the room and saw only Grace sitting over with Anton, talking to each other. She opened a private COMM with John, double checking that it was private to be sure no one overheard them. "You know staring at that thing isn't going to make it any sharper." She made her tone light, hoping that she could ease whatever was bothering him with a bit of humor.
John looked up to her, but he didn't say anything. Kelly could feel his gaze, heavy on her, examining her like he had the knife. He slid the blade back into its place in his armor. His hand reached out, gently touching her hand. She looked down at it and then glanced back at Grace and Anton. She was surprised to see John doing something like initiating contact while others were aroun

"This is not happening, Cortana. Reschedule the testing that I'm supposed to do next week." John crossed his arms and waited for the AI to reply.
"I can't reschedule it. The testing is happening that day. I don't see what could be so important that you couldn't move it to another day so you can complete your duty." Cortana's avatar frowned at him.
"Then I will not be there for the testing. I will be entering into matrimony with the woman I love." John was finding it harder and harder not to think that Kelly was right. "You have to stop doing this, Cortana."
"I'm not doing anything. I don't schedule the testing or your meetings." Cortana's avatar crossed its arms. "I don't see what the big deal is."

"So what do you think?" John looked to Kelly as she moved into the barracks. She ran a hand through her hair which was out of its usual ponytail. Usually John would have found Kelly with her hair down attractive, but this time, he didn't have the familiar desire to run his hands through it.
"Why did you dye your hair?" John scowled as she moved over to the cot beside his and sat down. "And why red?" John let his displeasure leek into his voice.
Kelly frowned, not understanding why he was upset. "I wanted something new. I thought that dying my hair would be the easiest thing that I could do without making any sort of change someone would notice."
"You shouldn't have done it." Kelly's shoulders slumped at John's words. He watched as she grabbed a hair tie and tied it back in as she usually did. "If you wanted to do something different you should have braided it."

At thirteen it was hard to ignore the hormones that reacted to how close he was. She was going to say more but it was lost as they lay in the sun just staring at each other.

John rolled over, and his hand traveled over the empty half of the bed. The Master Chief sat up, looking over where Kelly should have been lying. He frowned, surprised not find her in her normal space. He got out of bed and quickly got dressed, heading for the recreational room. He didn't find Kelly, but he found Fred sitting on a couch, reading over the daily news. "Have you seen Kelly?"
Fred didn't look up from what he was reading. "She went into town. She'll be back after lunch. Why do you care?" Fred's tone was harsh, as though John had wronged him in some way.
John was genuinely surprised by the other man's attitude. "Because I need her out of the base, and I need your help with setting something up."
"Why should I help you? You do realize what yesterday was? Kelly wasn't too happy, and I don't like when you make her unhappy." Fred finally looked back at the other Spartan.

John moved toward the pelican. If it was another Spartan he was eager to see them again. Being here around these soldiers had made him realize how much he missed the Spartans. If there was one he wanted to be the first to meet them. "Where are you going?" He looked over as Sam ran to keep up with him.
"I'm going to see if it's a Spartan." John's voice was flat, not giving away that he was eager for it to be another Spartan.

John set the mug down on the table and sat down in the chair across from his guest. He sat up straight, unable to push down the reflex. When he'd arrived John had fought the urge to salute the man. He was a higher rank than his guest, sure, but he held so much respect for the man that he felt he needed to do it. He was at a loss for words, not sure how to start a conversation.
He was just as John always remembered him. Strong, professional even in a personal situation. He was the one thing that never seemed to change. Over the years Doctor Halsey had become softer, less of the woman who was willing to do anything as she had been when the Spartan II program had started. The band of silver hair around his head had spread to most of his hair though there were a few black hairs left. He wore a simple duty uniform, his chest vacant of the many ribbons that were usually there. John could see that the years had taken some toll on him. Kelly frowned down at her daughter. She couldn't tell if the dirt that smudged the kid's face was because she hadn't washed up or because it was part of her costume. "All right, where did you get the armor?"
Catherine grinned, clutching the ODST helmet under her arm. The seven-year-old wore an almost exact replica of ODST signature armor but it was small enough it fit her. "Grandpa helped me."
Kelly sighed, she should have known. She turned to see Avery walking into the kitchen. "And just who are you supposed to be?"
Avery tugged at the collar of his long black coat. "I'm the doctor." He grinned like a mad man. He looked cocky and his hair was slicked back.
"Doctor who?" Catherine asked.

It was not the Lieutenant as he had hoped, but rather a female Spartan that he did not recognize.
The female Spartan stopped and looked at him. "I'm sorry, I must have the wrong room."
The woman had an accent that Carter couldn't quite identify. "Conference room B?" The woman nodded. "You've got the right room. You have any idea what this is about?"

The Cargo Exchange was the central processing centre for a great many of the merchants and traders who came to Orion on business. It was here that cargos were unloaded and then shipped on to their next destination, or were taken delivery of. Likewise, goods that were destined for offworld ports were loaded aboard freighters; or the arrangements for their loading were made. It was not where goods were bought and sold. Rather this was the hub for much of the interstellar shipping itself.
Although there were numerous large transport companies throughout inhabited space (many of which had offices on Orion) there were just as many, if not more, independent freighters and cargo ships plying the trade routes. They were popular among merchants because they generally had open schedules and could therefore handle emergency jobs and all the other last minute problems that routinely came up with import-export.
One such merchant was Kora

The view of the Orion homeworld from the large window in the captain’s office was a good one, and Captain Cera Rigel leaned against the wall as she took in the sight. This was her first time in the system and she was, to be perfectly honest, rather nervous.
The Orion Syndicate was a well-known galactic power with an infamous reputation. The Orions didn’t have the military might or vast territory that the United Federation of Planets or the Klingon Empire had, but the touch of their green fingers could be felt for hundreds of light-years. They were merchants and pirates, businessmen and slavers. They didn’t care how they made their profits so long as the profits kept coming in.
Unauthorised ships who came to Orion without legitimate business were seized and the crews put into the slave markets. They were notably suspicious of any vessels from the Federation and checked their credentials carefully. Cer

Since restarting his life among the stars, Garadun had discovered that the universe was an even weirder place than he’d imagined, and that was saying something. Ever since he was a boy he’d grown up on science fiction, so he had a vivid and open imagination. As far as he was concerned anything was possible. Anything.
But tonight the needle had definitely spiked on the weirdometer.
He was sitting in a theatre that was a mix of Risan and Human architectural styles on an alien planet almost ninety light-years from Earth and watching an Agatha Christie play that was over three hundred years old. The Mousetrap had had its debut in 1952 and became the longest-running play in all of Human history. By 2002 it had enjoyed its 50th anniversary and kept right on going.
Now in the mid twenty-third century the classic mystery play had been revived. The West End Players were an acting troupe from Lond

Captain Trent Weller sat behind his desk and studied the crewman standing at attention before him. She was the only Orion in the ship’s complement; and despite what the men on the Cassini might prefer, she was not wearing the popular miniskirt, nylons and calf-high boots version of the female Starfleet uniform. Instead she wore black slacks and low boots in addition to her red tunic with black collar. Her long black hair was twisted into a simple knot at the base of her skull. She wore no makeup apart from a bit of eyeshadow, and didn’t need any.
Standing to the right of the young Orion was Commander Darrin Yates, the Cassini’s first officer; on her left was Lt. Commander Carl Billingsley, the ship’s chief medical officer. Both men wore very grave expressions.
“At ease, crewman,” said Captain Weller. “What’s this all about?”

Once the transport sequence was complete, Cera found herself in a vast open plaza with Jan and Nessa on either side of her. Enclosing the plaza, which was paved with large, irregularly-shaped flagstones, were buildings of a highly decorative style with none more than five storeys in height. The plaza was filled with hundreds of people. The majority were native Orions of course, but there were other alien species present: Lorillians, Rigelians, Andorians, Tellarites, Bolians and Nuvians, just to name a few. She even saw a few Humans in the mix.
“Welcome to Orion, Captain,” said Jan Koor, glancing around the plaza. Nessa took a step closer to Cera, her eyes on the hunt for potential threats.
“Thank you. So where are we?”
“Shalsazan Square.” He pointed to the north. “Over there is the building we seek. I’ve already arranged the meeting.”

As the last sparkles of light vanished along with the final audible notes of the transporter beam, Garadun instinctively blew out a breath and patted his chest with both hands. He was alive and intact, but as usual he felt as if a few of his molecules had gone missing.
No matter what Jan said, he’d never trust them, not really.
After six long and rather uneventful weeks of travel at maxim warp they had at last reached their destination: Risa. The pleasure planet was famous across occupied space as the ultimate holiday resort. The world featured a tropical climate with stunning aqua-blue seas and pristine white beaches, and was home to a native humanoid species who were equally famous for being open and friendly, especially when it came to matters of romance. Or as Garadun bluntly put it: Risan girls are easy. His big Orion buddy had been talking about little else over the journey. Jan’s g

Although all the members of Calypso’s crew had visited a number of different systems, the sight of the Andorian homeworld with its mother planet as a backdrop behind it was a very impressive one. The primary world, Andor, was an enormous blue gas giant with a ring system that rivalled that of Saturn. Andor’s largest moon, Andoria, was an equally beautiful, blue and white globe.
“Entering standard orbit,” Garadun announced as the Class-P world grew very large on the viewscreen and then began to rotate beneath them.
“That’s a hell of a sight,” Jan Koor remarked. “My first time here.”
“For all of us, I believe,” said Nessa, and got nods of confirmation.

The bed Ceraline shared with Laurewen was the centrepiece of their quarters. It was a huge four-poster affair made from Arborean mahogany, the crossbeams supporting a wine-red velvet canopy. It had a deep feather mattress wrapped in silk sheets, topped with several large pillows and a voluminous bedspread of Elysian golden fox. It was a fabulous place for sleeping or making love, or even just lounging around.
Which simply made getting out of bed that much harder.
Ceraline pulled back the fur bedspread and sat up, yawning wide as her long, silky black hair spilled down over her chest and arm. Unclad as she was it was easy to make out the black razorvine tattoo running the length of her spine, from the small of

She only had to walk a few steps before reaching the door to her quarters, which was also on her right. Tapping the button on the wall, the door swished aside and she entered the living quarters portion of the double stateroom she shared with her roommate, a beautiful little blonde named Alicia Evans. While Sajeen spent most of her days on Deck 8 in the shuttlecraft maintenance section, Alicia could usually be found on Deck 7 in one of the medical labs. The two women had much in common: they were both very attractive, they were both Crewmen 2nd Class and they were both technicians doing jobs that basically got no recognition whatsoever.

When Sajeen awoke the following morning, she was in no hurry whatsoever to leave the bed. The temperature beyond the confines of the fur blankets and pelts she was buried under was something like -5 Celsius. To her right, Garadun was still fast asleep. When they’d dozed off he’d been facing her, one arm draped over her hip. He’d turned in his sleep during the night and now had his back to her.
The Orion girl gave a happy sigh and spooned herself against him. She had never felt so content in all her young life. Their lovemaking the evening before had been fabulous; and she knew it was only going to get better as time went on. She caressed his hip and leg beneath the furs, and kissed the back of his neck. She sniffed his skin: his Human scent was subtle, yet definitely male. Unlike every other Human man she’d known, he used no cologne, aftershave, hair products or anything else of that nature. So his scent was all him,

Second came the drugs
No one ever saw the hollow look in her eyes
She was never good enough for you
Always to thin always to fat
Soon came the cuts
No one ever saw those blood stained tears you threw into her face
One day she had enough
Oh it was just enough
For her to see the shining gun that her absent father kept
It was enough for her to see
It was what the people needed to see
That she was more then you allowed her to be
How did it feel the day you killed her?

When we found the knotted noose
And scribbled diary entries
With tales of self abuse
Teenage tears and tantrums
Can easily be explained
But what on earth would cause these
Freshly dripped blood stains
We were ever so worried
When you locked yourself in your room
Painted the walls pitch black
And ignorantly we assumed
That this was just a phase
That it would soon come to pass
And pass it indeed did do
Far too soon and far too fast
We were ever so worried
When you dyed black your hair
No longer did we recognise
The child that was once here
Our precious little angel
Where did your shaken bones go
And why did you leave us here
With no reason and no note
We were ever so worried
To find an empty bed
No more teenage tantrums
Just endless silence instead
If we could bring you home
Take care and start a new
We'd sit our precious girl down
And ask 'whatever is to do?''

Akin to the wings of a dove
You feel a karmic wind change
From this feeling called love
As I unfurl my wings
To the plague in your heart
I am your remedy
Now the healing can start
A spiritual moment
A timely epiphany
Everything in its right place
Just as it's meant to be
As I unfurl my wings
To the plague in your mind
Within the darkest caverns
I will bring you sunshine
A healing process
We will soothe each other's sores
My love, you are my life line
As much as I am yours
As we spread our arms
Two souls embrace as one
Your remedy is my cure
And our symptoms are now gone

Not cold enough to freeze the leaves
But cold enough that as I exhale
It made visible this air that I breathe
The frozen grass around the pond
Creaks under my lead weight feet
Only fog alone will now obscure
What lies beneath the ice sheet
Are mine the only eyes to see her
Why is she still in her night clothes
Will she not be cold alone down there
Perhaps she has long since froze
And if so how does she talk to me
Knowing exactly how I think
Staring so long into her face
One day I'm sure I saw her blink
It was a lonely cold winter's day
I'd been here many times before
My parents told me to stay away
But my dreams told me to ignore
School became a preoccupation
As did food and a good nights sleep
I'd close my eyes and I'd see the girl
Not only blinking but she'd weep
Maybe I found her for a reason
While passers by came and went
And as the end of winter approached
I asked what would become of my friend
Would she rise to the surface for me
Or sink solemnly

Or heals my wounds like he does

Around ten or so years back
I fell into a deep hole
But it felt more like a trap
I couldn’t get out of there
In fact I’m stuck here still

Here we are, sitting behind these screens of glass,
Reading lines of text, yet smiling, laughing and crying.
It's strange to think that I could have this much fun -
Considering that I've never met you before, but then again
Perhaps that's the reason why I don't have to pretend.
Some people might tell me, that what we have is just a fantasy,
I doubt I'll have the chance to actually see you in this life-time.
But even so, in the time that we've spent together - Well,
I feel as though I've connected with you, more than anyone else.
I feel as though I know you better, than those just a few feet away.
You might take this little confession as something silly,
Maybe you'll even forget about it as time passes,
But I for one could never forget about someone like you,
And so I'd like to dedicate this piece, to the beautiful you.

And often the truth gets slightly misshapen
But this is a story about the truth;
A tale of Pirates who aided the King
Though most would credit his honoured knights
We know they didn't do a thing...
Instead what happened is an epic story
For it began on a night when the moon was full
The Pirates slipped from their hallowed ship
Like wolves cloaked in wool
They hid amongst the jagged rocks
And called like birds to communicate
The soldiers thought they were hearing things
Until they began to hallunicate...
Visions of frightening ghosts and shades
Covered their eyes and sent them screaming
They clawed at their faces and toppled to the ground;
They woke the camp with their horrid keening
The ground was alive with running footsteps
Yet soldiers began to fall like snow
In panic their ears could not hear the sound
Of the rifle

Hardwork v.s. TalentHardwork v.s. Talent:Hardwork v.s. Talent in Philosophical More Like This
In this world, hard work is everything. As ridiculous as it may sound, it is indeed a fact that cannot be ignored. Whilst the existence of geniuses or natural prodigies cannot be discounted as a mere anomaly of fate, it is also incorrect for us to believe that we cannot surpass them in our own way. The fact that some people appear to be more skilled at a particular task is simply the illusion of 'best fit'.
If a hundred people were asked to write poetry, some would be good and some would be bad. If the same hundred were asked to play sports, some would be good and some would be bad. Even if we take into account the fact that some individuals are 'well-rounded', even they will have an eventual weakness.
The problem then stems from one's ability to convert talent into something marketable as a job. For example, a talent in riding a unicycle can allow one to be an entertainer, but a talent in being able to find the best way to grope a person, is likely to get

I think sometimes, of how nice it must be,
To be able to capture such beauty, within the borders of a page.
To spin a tale from but the smallest of phrases,
To create a fantastic adventure from a mundane experience.
It is painful indeed at times. When I am seated in this room,

Am I finally ready to give it all up?

I will not let it end this way!

I long to taste the sweetness of your flesh,
To roll your meat between my tongue and teeth.
So many times have I come - so close -
To taking that first bite from your neck.
Yet, there is something about you,
A scent perhaps or a sickly sap.
It turns bitter upon my tongue,
Poisoning it; I am left unable to eat...
Much like the caterpillar, covered in spines,
Each bite would spew only bitter venom -
Numbing my senses and dulling the mind;
It would leave me naught but a gormless wreck!
Even so, despite me knowing of the repugnant taste,
I am drawn toward you, like a moth to the flame.
May my wings crumble in the heart of the fire -

If only for the chance to feast once more!
Ah, my dear - I will have you.
& on that day it will be so sweet.
But for now - I'm afraid that -
I must leave this as a mere - tantalizing - fantasy...
