A first sharing of 4,600 high-resolution images of the Museum’s collection, including many masterworks, has just been made available and all are free to use, modify, and publish for any purpose.
In a brilliant stroke, the Getty Museum has liberated one of the top collections of art in the world not just for access but for use. The museum is literally “beaming up” the great works in its collection as living resour

What is it about a fictional character first introduced to the public in Great Britain in 1887 that has kept him being reincarnated, with generationally-correct upgrades, over and over again in film and on television? Who is this literary hero whose portrayal over the past century by such past masters as Basil Rathbone and Jeremy Brett to today’s vanguard talents Robert Downey, Jr. and Benedict Cumberbatch has inspired such a continuing outpouring of fan appreciation?

I I always thought of Thoreau’s comment as simply a word game — clever but ultimately false at its core. A Valentines Day without a Valentine means being alone and alone means being unhappy. It’s taken many years to finally understand the truth in Thoreau’s words. We are never so alone as when in the company of loving family and friends, our Valentine companion held tight in our arms – but knowing we are lost, unfulfilled in our dreams and visions, and untrusting in our own inner counsel. Now I hope to one day seek companions

Guy who commissioned work from me: Hey do you have that thing? I'm really excited to see what you came up with.
Me: Ah, no.
Guy: Where is it?
So, I had some commissioned work I've been doing for a guy who'd been serving in Korea, and I wanted to keep it super-safe, so I put it in my super-safe, water-fire-and-smudge proof portfolio/case. Which is also where I keep my botanical plates.

I applaud them, and would join their ranks if my ears would let me balance on a bike.
Amateurs: People who ride their bikes only sometimes. In my town it's usually because of a festival or because they've had their license revoked for some reason. Perhaps it is because they aren't old enough, and are hence unfamiliar with the ways of the road, like riding with the traffic, and actually stopping at stop signs. Professional vs. hobbiestSomething that's been on my mind a lot lately is how the two differe and which is ultimately better. I know many people on DA would vote professionalism when it comes to art, aka it being your source of living, getting "paid" for the art you produce (be it traditional art, theater, dance, etc). However, I also believe that a lot of us have a glorified view of how being a professional artist would be, most on here being so young and inexperienced in the professional world. Some of the rant ahead was pulled from a conversation between friends on Facebook.Professional vs. hobbiest in Personal More Like This
From a theater/acting/dance standpoint: hobbyists will work for free, which massively undercuts those who wouldn't.
The market value has decreased so massively that a small time artist simply can't survive on the $100 here $250 there that they receive. It breaks down to about .50¢ per hour. From a dancer standpoint, that one or two hundred doesnt even cover the cost of creating a costume, let alone living. When I was in Seattle I

Tonight, I am going to write about that one thing which turned into every modern young creator's fear, and is best described by a quote, supposedly said by Oscar Wilde:
'Every first novel is the author either as Jesus or as Faust'
Yup, that's right - It's Mary Sues and Gary Stus. If you read my older journal entries, you probably know I have certain opinion on topic, But I am not going to defend Mary Sues at all. But the problem is - With all Mary Sue tests and Mary Sue hunters there are Way too many points to declare a character a Mary Sue/Gary Stu, and half of them sound like the Hunters are deliberately mocking the creator, while believing themselves 'Perfect' in their judgment.
So in this entry, I am going to look at some of these 'Mary Sue making' points and tell you why do I belie
