Unless I somehow perform a minor miracle, Little Victory: Chimera #5 will not be available at Demoncon. Though the content will be ready by then (and a digital copy available via my website), the hardcopies probably won't be. 2014 was a reeeeeally sh*t year and production on all my projects was slowed up.

SlendermaidsI only really click on the thumbnails that appear on DA’s front page if they look good. I think most people do. A couple of days ago, there was a fabulous pencil-rendered image that caught my eye. I clicked on it, looked at it, admired the work, added the artist to my watch list and then noticed the minor anatomical flaw.Slendermaids in Personal More Like This
It was a simple error, one probably born from a mix of the figure’s position on the page and the artist being so eager to start working the image up that they began before double-checking their construction lines (if they use them at all).
My mind, working in the way it does, saw a funny cartoon in it, and, me being me, I drew it, posted it and fully accept the consequences of it and the reaction of the audience, good or bad.
A little while later, another idea popped into my head. This one inspired purely by the concept of long-armed mermaids and the cartoon I had drawn, not the minor flaw in another artist’s quality work.
(This is how inspiration wo
A Ripping ReprieveRipper Street, the BBC’s period crime drama set in London’s East End, was cancelled last year when the majority of the British public decided it would rather watch Z-list celebrities eating bugs than a well-written and engaging narrative.......A sign that Fair Blighty sinking into the sea might be a good thing.A Ripping Reprieve in Personal More Like This
New BBC series have not been that great. Atlantis was a turd of legendary proportions and The Musketeers was a bitter disappointment; looking epic but putting viewers to sleep through dull, by-the-numbers storytelling.
That, in the face of all those failures, Ripper Street (a GOOD series) was canned did cause a bit of head-scratching.
To my surprise, I’ve learned that Amazon stepped in and made a deal to fund Ripper Street for a third season, airing first via Amazon’s digital channels and then on the BBC at a later date.
Detective Inspector Reid’s fall into the moral abyss can continue uninterrupted!
Woops. I made it interesting. The comics in the Apsara Portfolio can generally be described as “titillation with a thin veneer of story”.Woops. I made it interesting. in Personal More Like This
A couple of people have voiced disappointment with the recent Jailer comic because I inverted that formula. I stupidly put what turned out to be an interesting premise in a comic where a good narrative hook actually ruins it. It was intended to be a one-shot, but the build-up has too epic a feel to it, leaving the second half and (apparent) conclusion to be unfulfilling.
Solution: I add more to the story. More little chapters that drip-feed character details, which now exist because I started writing them as soon as people began to voice their dissatisfaction.
It should make the opening “chapter” feel more worthwhile.
The whole thing will still be an Apsara comic, though, so don’t expect an easing of the usual Apsara elements.

OK, not really. They're turning part of the old facility into a cyberspace security and learning centre, to inspire the next generation of codebreakers.
Station X, AKA Bletchley Park, was the secret installation which housed the codebreaking unit who cracked Enigma in WW2, and was where the world's first programmable computer was built.
The site fell into disrepair after the war. With the Soviets a very real threat after 1945, Churchill ensured that Station X and its activities were kept under wraps, just in case a new war began in which they would be needed.
It wasn't until the 1970s that the public learned of Bletchley Park's wartime activities.
They're finally turning the place into a museum.

Google Maps had a Wikipedia layer that brought up links to Wikipedia articles connected to the region you were surveying. It was a brilliant way to learn about locations you have not yet visited, or to delve into an area's history.
A week or so ago, and apparently with no warning, Google removed this function and have now been flooded with complaints.

Beware The BatmanI caught the first episode of Beware the Batman.Beware The Batman in Personal More Like This
What a pile of rancid, charm-free, cheap-looking, poorly written, spineless, generic pap.
To start with, I hate the character design. There's nothing memorable about anyone you see on screen, with the exception of Batman's strange cranial deformation. It looks like someone's been hitting him over the head with a mallet, which is entirely possible given that Alfred has turned into Cato, from The Pink Panther: randomly attacking his employer to keep him on his toes.
And then we have the villains. Batman has, arguably, the best Rogues Gallery in fiction. It's that which makes his stories so interesting, not the brooding. You'd think with the opening episode, they'd want to start strong, or at least hint at some major threat, lurking in the shadows.
Instead, they give us a man dressed as a pig and a frog-man that burps.
And what's with the f**king laser guns?! If any one franchise is ideal for carrying an anti-gun

I would use one word to describe the build of this Hero Factory set.. redundant This leads me to some mixed feelings about the WD. I feel that with the part count the designers were allowed, they could have done considerably better at creating more fluid motion using the HF system. I find it to be a sad commentary in of itself when this is the best hero Factory build they've done. Maybe my expectations were simply set too high from everyone saying I should get this set and that its a good build. Anymore, lego doesn't start to show us a good build unless we're $50(USD) or more into the set. Lego just seems really really cheap to me now days. Not necessarily in the quality of their parts, cause they still offer a lot of the same parts they've had for a long time, they just seem like they're trying to find every little nook and cranny wh
The Balkan Powder KegIn an attempt to hopefully even things out around here, I'm writing a journal to speak about the recent tensions and squabbles happening here on DA. I think its safe to assume everyone has taken notice to the situation here on and how its become a bit like Biotube. I fear DA's reputation for a MOCing community is now forever tarnished and that this might drive otherwise good or brilliant MOCers away. To be quite honest, I couldn't care less about these petty squabbles and the butthurtedness of anyone involved, but it is driving a massive divide down this community and people are taking sides, joining factions and creating allies. Then people are getting backlash and ridicule for being friends with the enemy of another friend. Its creating what I find to be akin to the "Balken Powder Keg." Nature can be so cruel sometimes. We've all seen this and in the back of our minds we know it, but don't really pay attention to it till it happens right in your front yard. Yesterday a little baby bird of some kind fell out of our cherry tree in our front yard. The mother hadn't anchored the nest well enough to stand up to the windy day yesterday. I noticed when I saw these two lumps on the grass. Upon further inspection the mother bird that was guarding its chick on the ground flew away, but not too far, and I realized what had happened. I did my best to remedy the situation so that the mother could take back over. I picked up the nest, which was just a bunch of dry twigs bundled together and nestled it in the tree where the smaller trunks meet the main large trunk. Then gently scooped up the baby bird and placed it in the nest. It stayed there through the night. I got up this morning and checked and it had either

As you know, many MOCers recycle their MOCs, in fact I'd say a majority of MOCers do. It seems those of us that build a MOC then commit those parts to its construction on a long term basis or indefinitely are few and far between. There's arguments for either approach. Both have their pros and cons. Recycling means new MOCs, constantly moving on to a new idea. In my opinion, that sometimes leads to the MOCer presenting the same or very similar idea over and over again. Some MOCers make it wor

Now, I don't know about you, but I'm quite happy with technology these days. My computer does everything that I want it to do, at a pretty good speed; my Dad has a fancy camera, but more importantly, he lets me use it; then there's various other gadgets of the 21st century, like 3D TVs and smartphones, and they're all pretty awesome.
And yet, it is often the case that we look back into the past, at, say, my parents' generation. They didn't have the luxury of computers, their cameras relied on film instead of pixels, and things like 3D were unheard of. Compared to our current living standards today, it's easy to think that life was 'hard' back then - but they lived through it quite happily. Perhaps, while they were writing letters instead of texts, they felt grateful that they had a postage system at all. In fact, they probably felt the same way as I do now: "Wow, we have this fancy new stuff like trams. It must've

Roses are grey, violets are also grey...What I am about to share with you is perhaps the most universally interesting conversation topic that I have to offer: my red-green colour blindness. I've only just realised that 'colour blind' is two words, thanks to a Wikipedia article being open in the next tab. I'll start by dispelling a misconception: not all colour blind people see in black and white. (Admittedly my misleading title isn't helping the cause.) This is only the case for very very few people, and so far I haven't met anyone with monochrome vision. The truth is that the majority of colour blind people simply have difficulties telling the difference between some (but not all) colours.
Right, onto the interesting part! The subtitle is doubly suitable here, since the term 'red-green colour blindness' does not just mean red and green. Makes it even more difficult to explain, huh? Speaking from my own experience, there's very

My parents and I arrived in Cambridge with two hours to kill. The first thing that struck me was the sheer number of bicycles flitting around; with the narrow roads, flat topography and student population, bicycles are the signature mode of transport here. A few tourist photos later, I was left on my own at Jesus College, waiting for the course to begin.
Naturally, everyone was keen to be early for the initial assembly of the group. The thirty-or-so of us gathered around the entrance without a word, until one boy broke the ice with the line "So… awkward silence it is, then." Slowly
Our superficial societyLet me begin with a short anecdote:Our superficial society in Personal More Like This
I was in a hotel room with friends, on the last day of what had been, until then, an amazing holiday. Much like this journal, the topic of conversation quickly turned to girls and relationships.
We somehow began talking about bases, and to which one each of us had gotten. For those who have yet to come across the term, it's a baseball analogy where 'first base' is kissing, followed by progressively more intimate actions, and there are no prizes for guessing what 'a home run' signifies. I announced, with neither pride nor shame, that I have yet to reach first base at the ripe age of 17; this was received with a mixture of shock and pity, which baffles me. One then went on to say that he should set me up with one of his female friends, which I outright dismissed.
The story gets mildly more interesting here. Fast forward a few hours: after having visited the bar, we return to the hotel room, with one of my friends managing to get himself incredibly drun

I begin by presenting a topic, and my generally predictable view on it; this involves an abundance of semicolons, rhetorical questions and the word 'society'. I attempt to argue from a neutral standpoint, though the first person remains dominant. Though conclusions are supposed to be assertive, mine end up being airy and wistful.
Were it not for fear of repetition, I probably would've written about racism, or our obsession about negativity, or perhaps the more expected 'What it's like to be a 17-year-old who still plays with Lego'. I'm conscious of the fact that this detached register gets tiring after a while – I hope that this one isn't so monotonous.

The Server is our homeYesterday I was asked to review the server logs after another malicious attack on our server. When I was asked to do so I could not, because the girls and I were in the middle of our first recording session of the year. When the session was over I was exhausted after spending nearly eight hours solid on the computer, and needed to go do something else. By the time I returned home from my outing I was to tired to get the server logs. The Server is our home in Personal More Like This
In order to get the logs to look over user activity in order to spot any malicious looking activity I need to shut the server down, back the whole thing up, then go through each log top to bottom. This can take a couple of hours. Even if I do spot malicious looking activity I can not be sure the person I'm reading is actually the one committing crimes. A server log is circumstantial evidence only.
Today I checked to see if the server was up, and it is not. I have left it off to sleep until I can get to it, possibly

As for the server and map we are on now I do have a few things I would like to talk about.
Now adding something that should be OBVIOUS: Hacking in any way. If you use mods or hacks of any kind and our mods catch you, that's an auto ban. Why, you ask? Because it is inherently unfair to the other players.
First this server is NOT for PVP of any kind unless both parties have agreed to it. IF YOU ARE HIT and you have not given permission, and you hit back in "Self defense" you can BOTH be banned!
Why you ask?
Because death is meaningless here.

I am sad to report that I have been greifed nearly ten times. My farm animals have been repeatedly slaughtered, my home ruined over and over again, my chests smashed, and my hard earned items taken. I tried to ride out the continual wave of vandalism and theft, but after one particularly horrific attack I am very sorry to say I lost my patience. In creative mode I removed all traces of my farm, freed the animals I still had left, and moved to Jeff’s hotel.
Sadly, that too was attacked. Though thanks to you, my dear Denizens, I did not see the damage because you had repaired it. This is a burden you should not have to bare, and I am sorry I have not been able to protect you from this.

April Buinding Contests!Time to kick off the building contests for this month! Hopefully we'll have more entries this time than last month. We've got some interesting subjects to work on, but not a lot of time to work in due to delays and such. So no more waiting, let's get building!April Buinding Contests! in Personal More Like This
First up, the main contest, as chosen by :icontaggerung1: !
Build a vehicle of any type, (helicopter, airplane, car, boat, etc.) the only requirement being that it be able to have two minifigures seated side-by-side.
And the Lego Digital Designer Contest, as chosen by :icondinshino: !

Rules as follows, to hopefully avoid any confusion.

2: The entry must be something new, something you've built for this contest.

At the end of the last contest, we came to a little decision to change the rules a tad, in order to hopefully increase the number of entries and generally just make things easier. So, movie scenes! Everybody's seen a good movie or two, and even if they haven't, there are some scenes you just have to know anyway. If all else fails, The Wizard of Oz. So, everyone should be able to take part in this. First, let's set some important rules. The rules in blue apply to all contests, and the rules in red apply to this contest in particular.
It has to be made out of Lego bricks: No off-brands allowed.
It cannot be glued, painted, stickered, or otherwise modified using non-Lego means.

Entries must be in by August 25th.
Entries must be built out of actual Lego bricks, not in LDD. (sorry)
The subject is 'Sci Fi Vehicles'.
Submit your entries to the Club in the form of a note with a link to the Deviation. The note should say "Contest Entry" or some such in the subject line.
Please don't submit your contest entry to the Club's gallery, at least until after the contest finishes. It spoils the surprise.

Dark Nova Expansion KickstarterWell, we were a wee bit more successful in our quest to expand than we expected, and wound up with a LOT of international orders for the Dark Nova RPG. This ate into our budget for the print run for the expansions, as international shipping is obscene, especially for a four-and-a-half pound book. So, we've been trying to compensate by making up the difference with a kickstarter page for Fortune and Glory. We need another $600 and we're in the black again, so if any of you can help contribute, or pass this info along to those who might be able to, it would be greatly appreciated. On the topic of purismRahiden reporting for duty.On the topic of purism in Personal More Like This
A purist, in the MOCing community, is someone who does not modify his pieces in any way, be it with painting, cutting or using external components such as cloths or string. The purist essentially uses pieces exactly as they are provided by Lego.
Naturally, the topic of purism is a difficult one for us BML admins; much like the BML Standard, it's a question that has no definitive answer. And so, we’d like to ask for your input on the matter, with some discussion (and shameless self-advertising) from the four of us as well.
Letters in bold indicate that I’m paraphrasing one of the admins, i.e Shorjok, Alex-Darkrai, 3rdeye88 and, of course, Rahiden.

If you look on the BML profile page, you'll see that we've updated the box on the top-left; it now contains The Rules, as before, and an addition of mine titled 'The BML Standard'. I've pasted it below for convenience.
Anyway, we've found that a lot of potential MOCers come to us in search of advice for improvement (so long as they don't storm off in a fit of rage, that is). There might also be the chance that there are people who want help, but aren't willing to openly ask for it. We've always known that it's hard to describe what exactly makes 'a good MOC', so, with contributions from the other admins, I've done my best to make a list of factors which we find important.

As always, there are people whose MOCs get turned away due to them not meeting our quality requirements, and inevitably a lot of these people will be disappointed. Angry, in fact.
