In the Land of Myth and Legends

One of the most amazing sunrises on Iceland enchant this place in a dreamlike atmosphere.
It shows the Kirkjufellfall with the Kirkjufell in the background on the peninsula Snaefellsness.
Perhaps there are still hidden essence on this wondrous country.

Magic of the North

For this it was a good deal of luck and a good dose of patience from emergencies. Such evening scenes are not matter of course, and waiting out with the preset camera angle and freezing temperatures are a nice pastime;-).
You can see the glacial lake Jökulsárlón with a big glacier tongue of the biggest glacier in Iceland, Vatnajökull in the background. The constant murmur and gnashing of gigantic masses of ice in the background is clearly heard in absolute silence.
Larger and smaller fragments of the glacier are swimming through the lake and pass through an estuary into the open sea. The black lava beach is a wonderful contrast to this impressive spectacle.

I just came back from an impressive 20 day trip to Iceland. My first thoughts after coming home are mixed. Luckily to be save at home with a roof over my head and sad not to stroll through breathtaking landscapes i can´t even describe in words.

I now want all of you to take part on my epic trip through this country.
First i want to present the famous rock formation Hvitserkur on the north side of iceland on a late light after sunset. The black lava boulders in the foreground impressed me to take such a low angle and to get a really big depth that leads you into the image.
The name "Imp Stone" can attributed to an icelandic saga which says there was once a troll who turned to stone after seeing the morning light. Believe it or not - this place is magical!

Breath-taking sunset light above the Crozon Penisula on an unsettled day in April. The peninsula is constantly exposed to extreme weather conditions because of its geographical position at the west end of France. In the photo’s background: the Island Pointe de Penhir.

Glenorchy Lagoon
New Zealand

This was one of my most favourite scenes from the trip to New Zealand earlier this year. Having woken up and done our morning routine with Charlotte, we packed her up tight and snug on my back where she soon fell asleep and missed this beautiful dawn which transitioned from pink to gold to misty frost beauty. Glenorchy Lagoon is a must see for any landscape photographer visiting New Zealand on a limited schedule.

Roy's Peak
Wanaka Area

The walk up to Mount Roy from Lake Wanaka takes you more than 1km straight up along a 4WD track initially, then a steep and narrow ridgeline. The weather was very kind that evening for the walk down after dusk but well worth the view, the blisters and the takeout dinner afterward ! Lake Wanaka meanders off into the distance framed by the town of Wanaka on the right and Mount Aspiring National Park on the left. One of many memorable moments from our now distaant trip to New Zealand in May.

Lake Manapouri
New Zealand

During our recent trip to New Zealand, I did one night of the Kepler Track and found myself at Shallow Bay on the shores of Lake Manapouri. Rising mists and light rained combined to give this rainbow over the lake itself. This seemed to last forever and was one of many great moments of our trip. This was an exposoure blend of three images done manually. I did take one with a big stopper but found the feel completely different without the ripples of water and sheen.

The actual footage of the rainbow can be seen in this video

Frary Peak after a light dusting of snow.

A chase trying to photograph Mule Deer led me to this spot, I took some images looking to the East and captured great light there, turned around and saw the peak shrouded by the glow of clouds at dusk. I grabbed my gear and ran about 1/4 mile to this overlook before the light faded. This was a great evening spent hiking, exploring new locations, and taking pictures, one of those nights that everything falls into place and you realize you'll probably never stop chasing moments like these.

This is the Labas lake in the french Pyrénées. weather conditions were particularly appropriate to capture the milky way.

This image is composit of 2 exposures, the first for the ground taken at 8h49 pm and
the sky exposure taken at 9h26 pm. As there were absolutely no moonlight I needed to take the ground exposure with the last crepuscular light to ensure a correct image quality.

Even if the sun is not present any more in the sky, his lights reflect on the distant high altitude clouds, providing this very particular and enchanting lighting for a few instants. To complete the scene, the sky displays an interesting variety of colors from blue to orange going through cyan, pink and yellow. This photo was taken in the " Monts-Dore " mountains, France.

This was taken during a recent trip near the "Puy de Sancy", a nice place in our region. The grass at this altitude has already its autumn colors in September.. I like the effect it creates, as if the mountain was covered in a sort of velvet, which is even more visible when a beautiful warm sunset light hits the mountain's flank.

This was taken in the french Pyrénées. A delicious morning light revealed the true splendor of those mountains, complimented by pretty cirrus clouds... a great moment.
The lake is called "Lac d'Aumar", definitely a very nice place !

There are certain scenes, moments, and feelings in life which linger on in your memory. Like catching the eye of the one you fall in love with, the first kiss, holding hands and watching the sunset, hearing the first piece of music send a chill down your spine, which then forms your favourite band, musician, or genre. These are the types of things that stay with you the rest of your life; things you can look back upon and smile with a light heart.

My life's goal is to capture precious light -- whether it be in the form of photons that have potentially travelled millions of years to fall upon my camera's sensor from the most distant celestial wonders, to the light that travels 8 minutes from our own star, to strike the Earth in the guise of a beautiful sunrise -- when I do capture something special, it lingers within me and leaves a lasting impression.

This scene was captured after 3 days of waiting for the right light. I feel very lucky and blessed to have been able to witness (and, experience) one of the, if not, the most beautiful sunrise I have ever seen, at one of the most remote, primal and pristine places left in the world -- Milford Sound.

To give you an idea as to the sheer scale of this place, the waterfall that you can see at centre right (Stirling Falls) is approximately 8 km away.

With the soft light illuminating the clouds from the western horizon to the east and to the south behind me, in a gorgeous pink, it is something that I will never forget.

I made this image from the mouth of the Tasman River where the glacial Tasman Lake ends. It was a balmy -7 degrees Celsius.

The pink in the clouds is from the sun which was to rise just two minutes later.
