Lillian awoke to the smell of freshly brewed coffee. After three months, this was no longer unusual to her, so she considered simply ignoring it, turning over, and going back to sleep. She refrained for two reasons and two reasons only. First, she was well aware that if she ignored the call, some worse violation was going to occur. And second, she could also smell something burning, and that was something even she couldn't snooze through.

It was a particularly windy winter evening with snow falling from seemingly every direction. The streets were covered in thick layers of white and frost formed on the branches of the leafless trees. Lillian closed the front door behind her, the warmth of the flat being a welcome change after the biting cold of the outside world.
She absently combed the snowflakes from her tangled hair, and headed straight to her room, paying little attention to Mr Kitteh, who being the second laziest member of the household showed no interest whatsoever in his owner's return, and continued his never-ending beauty-sleep on the sofa. Lillian's only thoughts moved around getting out of her wet coat, getting under the warm blankets and instantly falling asleep.
