ZADR Orange Chapter 084
Stepping forward, Rose reached out a hand towards Dib so she could push back a bit of his hair. "Well, everything seems to be alright here again." she said, caressing his cheek gently and smiling at him softly. "So long as you two are getting along and taking care of those smeets, we don't have anything to worry about." she said, just happy the two had worked things out on their own.
His eyes falling half lidded and antennae falling back to rest comfortably against his head in an almost nostalgic way, Dib melted a bit at her touch, it reminding him so much of his own mother's. "...The smeets are fine..." he said, in an almost dazed fashion as his hands felt along his belly. "They're moving and everything..." he said before finally closing his eyes tiredly.
"Hmm?" Rose blinked down in some surprise at his words before looking back at Zim. "But I thought you said they were in eggs." she said, sending the Irken a slig

Scooping Dib up bridal style, Zim smiled and carried him upstairs. "Anything specific you want?" he asked.
Antennae still drooping, Dib could only shrug loosely. "Sugar..." he spoke, feeling as though he hadn't had anything sweet to eat in days. He just felt like sprinkling sugar over everything edible in the fridge.
Zim smiled and nuzzled him. "Okay, anything UNDER that sugar?" he asked with a laugh.
"Whatever you have left over in the fridge, I guess...I don't really care." Dib said as he let his eyelids slip closed to rest against Zim tiredly.
As they went up in the elevator to get food, Zim nuzzled him gently. "I'd say we have a lot of leftovers...That is, if Gir hasn't done anything with them yet..." he laughed.
Opening his eyes, Dib looked back up at Zim. "I'll eat whatever you have...These smeets aren't exactly too picky at the moment. They're mostly just making me hungry for ANYTHING really..." he said.
Zim smiled. "Okay. How about that left over Chinese take-out?"

Taking another step forward towards Zim, Jack sent him an all too serious look. "Zim, what happened?! And don't try changing the subject! If I weren't okay, we wouldn't be here right now! But I'm obviously fine, so just please tell us what happened!" he pleaded with the other in an all to urgent voice to just tell them what happened.
"Please, Zim! We've been worried sick about him ever since you took him from our house! We're concerned about him! And we're concerned about the smeets!"
Swallowing, Zim blushed some more. "U-Uh...Well...I-It's nothing BIG. Just a little accident...B-But...He's really upset about it..." he said, still not wanting to tell them what happened.
"Zim! Tell us what happened! It's the least you could do after what you did to Jack back at our house! So don't just brush it off like it's nothing! If he doesn't want us bringing it up, then we won't! But at least tell us wh

His eyes growing wide, Dib looked away also. "O-Oh..." his antennae drooped a bit. "D-Do you think that I won't keep my promise...?" he asked, now contemplating whether things really would be better off if they just decided to pick things up from there without restoring his memories. He wanted to know what had happened over the past few months but was beginning to fear what horrible thing it was that happened to make Zim wipe his memory in the first place.
"N-No, it's not that! I-It's just...You will think that I won't...You will KNOW that I haven't...I'm sorry...I tried...I-I thought you just wanted some time alone..."
"Well, did you tell me before you wiped my memory that you thought I had just wanted some time alone? Because sometimes...I overreact...and just need a reason for why somebody did or didn't do a certain thing..." Dib said, keeping his eyes averted to the side.

Just allowing Zim to scoop him up and carry him over to the tub for a bath, Dib didn't even respond or look up, his dazed gaze focused on the ground beneath them. He couldn't look back up at Zim, even if he wanted to. It was almost as though he had completely shut down.
Worried about Dib but thinking it would be best to get the both of them cleaned up first, Zim stepped into the warm goo and sat down with Dib in his lap.
His antennae shivering before falling back to rest comfortably against his head again, Dib didn't respond at all save for a small shudder as they entered the gel. He wasn't exactly used to the gel baths yet, the semi-liquid substance still somewhat cold to him despite technically being a 'warm' gel bath.

Turning over onto his stomach, Dib curled up in the bed. "I thought we were underground though..." he murmured into a pillow tiredly, too tired to even open his eyes at this point. He was more than content to just sleep the rest of the night away. When he felt a tiny bit of movement in his stomach however, he let out a small whine and shifted slightly.
Zim mumbled. "Yeah...But I'll manage..." he said, cuddling up close to Dib. "Get some sleep, Dib." he said, not realizing what discomfort the other was going through at the moment.
Dib just continued to shift about uncomfortably. "Mmm...Nyeh...Tell that to my stomach..." he said, peeking one eye slightly open before bringing down a finger to poke at his stomach. He was still getting used to all the sudden movement despite the fact that the smeets had been moving around inside him since practically the first time he had noticed it.

Turning off the video, Zim shook his head. "I'm sorry..." he apologized.
Hearing Zim behind him, Dib jumped and turned on his knees to stare up at Zim with wide eyes. "Wh-What the hell was that, Zim?!" he pointed at the screen. "Tell me what's going on!" he demanded, tears streaming down his cheeks now. Having to relive that moment in time, even if not remembering it the first time, was just as painful as when it first happened.
Slumping to the floor, Zim carefully wrapped his arms around Dib. "I-I didn't want you to hurt...I'm sorry..." he apologized again.
Bringing his hands up to wipe at his eyes, Dib could only break down even more. "Then why have you been lying to me this entire time?!" he curled in on himself more, burying his face in the Irken's uniform top. Eyes stinging as he held back his own tears, Zim kept his gaze looking away, his time having already started counting down from 10 minutes. "No...I-I want you to know I care...I would do anything for you...I'd give you my life..." he said just to have Dib cut him off.
"But I don't want you to give me your life! I already know you'd do that for me! You've already done that so many times! And now all I want to do is to be with you! But you never believe me! I know you'll love Dib no matter what, so just go in there and let him know that. You don't need a marriage to tell him that." he said, placing a hand reassuringly on Zim's shoulder.

A bit flustered by all of Rose's questions, Dib could only blink at the shirt she was holding up to him. "U-Ummm...I-I guess..." he said. To say the very least, he had hardly even ever had any reason to go out shopping for clothes in the past. To his knowledge, his clothes had always fit him up until this point in time. So being asked all these questions about something he really could care less about was putting him on edge a bit. He had at least hoped Zim or Jack would come in with him rather than leaving him to deal with Rose all on his own.

PWF Background Info: The OTHER Side of the SkoolLong before I started "Playing with Fire," I was writing a fanfic called "Best Years of our Lives." This story is now a failure. However, there are many aspects of this story that I've kept for PWF. One is Mrs. Sours. One of the other things is the other side of the skool. It's only mentioned in the comic later in chapter 18, but it's just one of those background things, just like Mrs. Sours' background story. Through the first week Dib and Gaz came to see Gir routinely. After the first week was over, they took him home with them. Ever since Zim left, Dib blamed himself, and went into a small depression. He didn't talk to anyone but himself, Gaz and Gir; but mostly himself. Dib stopped chasing after other paranormal, because it reminded him of the fun he had with Zim. Dib would look through his very special telescope, and try to find Zim ever night. He sent echo waves through space, from one of his dad's machines, asking for forgiveness and pleading for Zim to come home. He never got an answer.
By the fifth week of summer he started getting desperate, and started writing letters. Short ones and tied them to balloons and let them free. Half the morning he had spent twisting around in his chair and slamming his fists onto desks, yelling loud enough for the students on the opposite end of the school to hear, about how 'hyooman's' were lax and 'stoopid' that they actually needed to learn about this 'stuff.'
I had smirked again at that, asking him if he'd ever learned about sex-ed on Irk, to which he yelled 'I AM FROM EARTH! I AM NORMAL!' in an attempt to bypass the question.
Now I headed towards my locker. Zim's was right across from mine on the opposite side of the corridor, strangely enough. We didn't share homeroom, but

I had just barely managed to make it into the classroom before the lingering feeling of death circulated in the room as the teacher literally floated inside. As I sat down at my desk, I looked over towards where Zim sat. He hadn't followed me as I had left his house, and I wasn't even sure he was going to show up today.
Miss Sowourz started the usual morning lecture, something about the number of deaths and injuries from falling vending machines, but my mind was elsewhere. No matter how hard I tried to avoid it, I knew I couldn't just push aside my thoughts and feelings, especially if they had been bothering me for the past few months.
I had tried asking myself countless times what exactly Zim was or meant to me. Most of the time I had instantly cast the question aside, labeling the alien as nothing more than my ultimate enemy. Zim was a cold green alien, an Irken Invader, as I had previously learned from spying on him so much. He was here to conquer my planet, invade it. H

Dib cautiously snuck up to Zim's house, trying to evade the glares of the creepy garden gnomes. How could anybody in even their right alien mind put those things in their yard?! Reaching the glowing house, Dib glanced into the window to see what kind of activity was a-happening inside.
Zim was sitting on the purple couch along side his crazy SIR unit, GIR. Clutched in his two fingers was a dip snack. The alien dipped in a strange white stick and put it in his mouth, as did GIR. They were watching some show about diarrhea. "GIR, I only hope this does NOT provoke you to do something insane... though I digress, knowing you." Zim muttered.
"YEW gots da diarrhea too?"
"NO, GIR. Filthy hyoomans and their filthy waste disposal methods..."

Hearing his voice through the phone was like an echo of my dream. I could feel my face getting flustered. I took a deep breath, waiting for him to respond. I gulped.
"Yes, it's Zim. Listen pig-stink, I need you to do something for me." He was talking like he called all the time! I felt myself getting a little irritated. Almost like all the aggression I had from our past fights were beginning to rumble together in my head, like an earthquake that gradually builds up.
"Hold on a damn second, Zim!" I felt myself getting a little loud so I looked around real quick around my cubicle. Not only had no one seemed to have heard me, it looked like almost everyone had left for lunch. "Just what the hell are you calling me for? And what gives you the right to give me that tone? What the hell's going-" I was cut off by the robot screaming somewhere off into the background. Zim sighed into the phone agitatedly. "I.....brought the pizza." was all I could get out. Zim’s alarm system was off, but I don’t know why I just walked inside. Why didn’t I knock? Why didn’t I knock?! Now I was stuck in what felt like time, worse than when Zim actually got me stuck in that time vortex. The skin I couldn’t stop thinking of was in front of me, bare. I couldn’t stop staring. I was terrified for a moment when I stepped into the tube. Zim could have been easily tricking me to destroy myself, but it’s been so long. Why would he try to kill me now? He tapped some codes into the touch screen thingy. It was all in irken so I had no idea what any of it said. Afterwards, he walked towards the other tube. He looked so worried. With his antenna whimpered to the back of his head, he was the very image of vulnerable. This was crazy. Why did he even want to be able to be human? Maybe it was for a better disguise. I honestly didn’t care much. I wanted to see if it would work. I wondered for a second on why he didn’t just steal a human if that’s all he needed. He hated asking for someone’s help so why not take someone against their will?
Just as all these question jumbled through my spinning head I glanced over at Zim. He was so pinned up in the tube. His shoulders were tightly pressed near his head in a clinch, almost as

What did it mean?

Silence had filled the small, cramped councillor's office for a full half hour since Elliot had brought the two teens in after the little incident in the hall this morning. Since he had started his new job as the skool's councillor, Elliot had come to the conclussion that waiting for the troubled teen to speak to you was better for the teen's self esteem than trying to pry the problem out of them.
Elliot was a rather scrawny man in his late thirties. Standing a little over six feet, he was the perfect example of optomism and, in his opinion, a proffessional teacher. It was a rather nice day. The sun was shining, birds were singing, people smiled and waved at each other.
From a rather strange, green house on a round-about street, a voice growled, " I hate cheerful days like this!"
Inside the house, Irken Invader Zim jerked the blinds of a window closed adn walked to a small couch. GIR, his dog-suited dysfunctional SIR unit, shoved a whole taco in his mouth and laughed insanely.
"I mean, look at those filthy humans!" Zim continued, ignoring the psychotic robot. "Happily prancing about, enjoying their pathetic lives! This planet's just begging to be destroyed!"

Said creepy teacher sighed, shaking me from my thoughts, "Yes, Dib?"
"Didn't you discuss this before?"
I growled savagely. Stupid Dib-worm! The only sane pig-monkey on this crazy planet was the only thing standing in the way of my plan-
My growl turned into a rather violent coughing fit and I flinched as each cough tore through my throat. By the time it was over, I was gasping for breath.
"Zim, if you're going to cough up your lungs, do it quietly!" Ms. Bitters snapped.
"Yes, Ms. Bitters." I rasped. My throat was surprisingly raw. Strange.
The bell rang and Ms. Bitters hissed darkly. "Enjoy your doomed lives. You'll be back here tomorrow or you'll all fail."
Finally, I could go home and work on my latest evil plan!

It was a well known fact Irkens don't sleep.
It was one of the things that made them the most feared race in the universe. An enemy that never sleeps.
It was NOT a well known fact (in fact, only the Tallest knew and they made sure absolutely NO ONE found out) that once, every thousand years, for one week, the moons of Irk moved into alignmen in front of the sun and affected every Irken PAK...
A Tallest's schedual was quite simple: stuff your face, check briefly on the invaders, eat more food, judge a few Irkens, pig out, check invaders, food, repeat.
All from the comfort of the Massive.
Red and Purple were currently in the 'eat more food' phase. While they snacked, they complained about one particular invader that never seemed to understand the phrase 'Leave us alone, we don't care.'

His curiosity was piqued slightly. What function did the antennae serve? As long as he’s known Zim and he’s never really figured it out. He assumed they were for hearing and expressing emotion, as they often shot straight up when their owner was surprised or laid down flat when he was angry. But was that all they were for?
