This one of the two types of mechs used by the Troopers in the Roughnecks; Starship Troopers cartoon. As with all my models, it was made in Blender, the free 3d software suite. Texturing was done in photoshop.

This is a model I built a few years back of the Retrieval Ship from the CGI show, Roughnecks: Starship Troopers Chronicles. I absolutely love this design and actually prefer it to the dropship on Aliens.

Here is the original Power suit design I did for the Starship Troopers: Roughnecks Chronicles CG television show.

It is the result of a collaborative effort between Executive Producer Richard Raynis and myself. We both agreed that the so called "power suits" from the movie looked flimsy, we wanted a suit that enhanced a soldier so that they could engage in hand to hand combat with a bug and survive. It was also a space suit.

To make animation easier I wanted to have three fingered gloves. I came up with an arm shield and detachable chest readout for vitals and oxygen levels. Richard wanted boots that looked functional and cool, so he sent lots of ski boot reference my way. I got stuck on how to make the toe flexible, and so we sat on the floor of my office and threw sketches back and forth until Richard came up with what you see here.

We wanted a visor for heat and sun protection and nothing was working until I decided to base it off a peaked baseball cap, with the visor acting as an extended brim when up, and flipped down when needed as a shield. It looked cool and worked well in 3D. Was Master Chief's design, color and helmet based off our power suit? Considering that Roughnecks was airing two years before Halo came out.

The Chariot bugs carried the Brain bug around on their back supports. I did this final design off a rough by Milenko Tunjic, who was part of the crew working for my Australian company.

It was colored with markers (Tria by Pantone) and details with pencils (Prismacolor by Berol).

This bug was chosen unanimously by the members of Roughnecks Ramblings as my next SST post. Thanks everyone who voted!

This bug was designed by Milenko Tunjic :iconferdinandkreozot:
The line clean-up was from Darren Roach who also did the color, both were artists from my Australian studio. I art directed, but by this stage Milenko had the bug design figured out and was hitting the designs on the mark with minimal input from me.

This is the first of four Skinnies that I sculpted for Mongoose publishing. They used to have a licensed Starship Troopers game based on the movies and books, and this is one of the aliens that you may run into.

The model was originally sculpted out of two part epoxy over a wire armature, and stands about 42mm from the bottom of the feet to the top of the head. This is not the original that I sculpted- that was molded and recast in tin for sale to collectors and gamers. This is one of my personal tin samples, inked to bring out some of the detail.

This particular Skinny is a leader type, thus the little armored suit and different weaponry. At first the end of the staff had a little spear point on it that I worked very hard on- which promptly broke off almost immediately when I opened up my sample box. Sadly these guys are no longer in production so for the time being he will have to point the way with a stick!

I studied the illustration in the Starship Troopers roleplaying game book to get a handle on the anatomy. One interesting note is Skinnies do not have heels- they walk on the balls of their feet with their toes splayed out a bit like a camel. So the odd feet are intentional!

The spines on the backs of the hands were a last minute addition.

Here is the latest matte painting I created for a competition on CG Channel. I used maya to create the base, textured it in photoshop. I rendered it using mental ray with AO, alpha, Zdepth and a shadowmap pass. I then combined it all in photoshop along with the background.

This is a step by step animation I uploaded.

The new Starship Troopers CGI movie is about to come out and I'm really looking forward to it, despite you know, Starship Troopers 2 and 3. But anyway the new Mobile Infantry look cool so I quickly sketched one as part of my daily practice.

Image: Star Wars Clone Vehicles Combination
Time Taken: About Half an Hour (to put together) About 6 hours (to ink each model individually)

So I made three Star Wars Clone Vehicles today (uploaded already) and I thought they looked pretty cool, but I wondered how good they would look altogether, so I combined the three files in Photoshop and created this lovely new desktop background for myself. I really like this image :D

Edit: DeviantArt's image re-size function is making it smaller than it actually is, Download for the full size image, which is much better.
