I prefer being called Livia, or Livi, but most of the times I listen to anything that rhymes with them

First of all , please introduce yourself to the community.
Hi all, I’m Stacy Reed, aka Sya.
I am one of the founders of the Apophysis community here at deviantART and served as admin for a while during it’s beginning years. I’m also the resident software reviewer for Tucows.com where I have maintained our libraries for over a decade
How did you discover deviantART ?
It’s part of my job as a professional software and web-services reviewer to keep up-to-date on what’s new and buzzworthy. If I remember right, I was looking for wallpapers to add to our Tucows collection and kept landing at deviantArt. I’

How did you discover deviantART `cmptrwhz ?
My friend from work introduced me to the site when she found out that I was using apophysis to create fractals.
What is your earliest Artistic memory ?

Fave the article if you want to self-promote while promoting others (and not having to feel guilty about it). You can suggest your own work or another deviant’s...as long as it has under 300 faves. If you suggest someone else, I will credit you as the suggester, unless you don't want me to. I especially need literature suggestions!
I seem to have made a mistake copy/pasting some of the notifications about being featured here. If your work doesn't say on here that you were suggested to me, then I either found your art of my own accord or you were suggested by an anonymous source. Sorry about that.

My Relief Must Be PalpablePresident Barack Obama has been re-elected for a second term, and the democrats have retained control of the Senate... they did not take control of the House of Representatives, so i didn't get all I wished for, but I am still very relieved. My Relief Must Be Palpable in Personal More Like This
I do not wish to extend the animosity but I really do believe the republican party needs to move itself into the 21st century, and abandon the Tea party Fanatics or they will continue to lose.
I also wish to god that Donald Trump would crawl back under whatever slimy rock he crawled out from under... because calling for people to start a revolution when his party lost, fair and square, is not the sort of thing we need... if you care at all about people acting and speaking like adults, please boycott anything Donald Trump is involved in... let's make this hate monger disappear!
Anyway... I'll do a new feature and update "Song of the Week" sometime soon... I'm just too relieved right now to put in the effort.
three ways to be an American IdiotIf you are an American, and you watch any sort of news at all, then you know that the "birthers" are back... by "birthers" I mean people on the extreme right that believe, or claim to believe, that President Obama is not a citizen of the United States, and therefore not legally president at all.three ways to be an American Idiot in Personal More Like This
There is a really huge problem with this whole idea though, but what is, in some ways worse than the idea itself, is that not even the Democrats seem to see the real stupidly here... I noticed this very quickly, but so far, no news program, no pundit, nobody anywhere has brought it up.
Here is what I noticed: Here we have these extreme right wing fanatics, saying Obama is not an American Citizen... some of them are these extremely wealthy contributors to the Republican Super PACs (Political Action Committees) and others are politicians... these people have access to huge amounts of money, lawyers out the ying yang, and all the public records they might wish to examine.
And yet, with all this mo

Earlier this week I was stalking a photography forum (because it's where all the cool kids are) and I noticed somebody claiming to be a fairly professional photographer angling for information on the best mega-pixels D-SLR camera they could get in order to stabilise their images. Well anybody who knows even a tiny inkling about Photography will very quickly jump on that as most of us know full well that no matter how many megapixels you've got, they aren't worth a thing without a steady hand or more importantly a good sturdy tripod. I never was a firm believer in a tripod and even now, I rarely use it. However I use any number of things to stabilise myself when shooting whether that involves lying in a bed of flowers, resting against a wall or indeed using the nearest person (which I don't recommend - people sway!) However it's not difficult to get

I was fascinated this week by an article about the Photographer who survived a year only on Penguin Steaks. When I read further I was enlightened about an exhibition to the Antarctic that I had never before heard of. In 1914, Sir Shakleton along with 27 men, 69 dogs and a cat sailed from Buenos Aires to Antarctica. They wanted to be the first to cross the Antarctic Continent on foot. However their boat became trapped and they lived on the ship for 10 months. Some of the photographs captured of those moments are wonderful - timeless creations of moments when all you really have to keep yourself occupied with, is thinking and existing. To cut a long exhibition short, they spend almost two years (some of them) existing on penguins and biscuits. But the whole time they were there, Frank Hurley, a Photog
Photography Troubleshooting: Capturing FireworksWith the 5th of November looming - and of course Christmas and New Year bringing the opportune moments for fireworks - it seemed useful to put together a small troubleshooting guide for those that are going to venture out with the camera. The 5th of November in the UK is known as Bonfire night - the day when, many years ago, the plot to blow up the houses of parliament was thwarted. Nowadays when officials discover a terrorist plot, they're pat on the back and life goes on. But back in those days, a whole day was set aside for celebrating. And now, in the modern age, up to two weeks are spent setting off fireworks. So first and foremost, if you can - shoot it in RAW mode. It's great for after-tweaking and especially with white balance and sorting out flaws. We're drawing on the expertise of `WhenPigsFry in order to give you as many tips as possible. He's part of a crew that puts on firework displays and thus sadly misses the chance to shoot them a lot of the time. The Olympics 2012 officially opens today in London and with it the knowledge that hundreds of thousands of moments are going to be captured across the next two weeks. Sports Photography can belong in several categories across deviantART and it's often difficult to know precisely which one. And guess what - I've got no real answers for you! My only tip is that you need to keep in mind that sports documentation is more likely to be Photo-Journalism than anything else. Unless your sports shots are posed to be creative, emotive and so on - they don't technically belong in the people and portraits galleries. Utilize Photo-journalism as much as you can over the coming weeks, whether you're at the Olympics or you're shooting some summer sports!

Photography Troubleshooting: Capturing BabiesOkay so one of the biggest subjects within portraiture photography are infants and children! Children and in particular newborn babies bring out the photographer in all of us. So whether or not you're looking to go pro and snap babies professionally or whether you just want to brush up on some tips for your own family or friends, this could be the article for you! I always thought that when I got my first baby shoot booked, it would just be a case of snapping them on the carpet or wrapped up in a blanket. I had no idea how creative I could really get - and how simply it would be to do that.Photography Troubleshooting: Capturing Babies in Photography More Like ThisUntil a few weeks ago, I had never photographed a baby in my life, let alone had to pose and arrange one in cute positions with lots of fluffy toys surrounding it. I had also never used a lighting kit before, but that's another story. Anyway, I found it incredibly easy once I knew what i needed, to set up for the shoot and since then I haven't looked back. The Pulitzer Prize Winning Photos were announced this week and with it a debate was sparked about how best to display the controversial winners. The winning shot is Photo-journalism at it's best - and indeed humanity at its worst. The image depicts a young Afghan girl standing in the midst of the after effects of a bomb explosion. She is covered in blood, and around her lay bodies. Whilst the publication of graphic images has been a tough and much debated topic for some time - the very taking of such photos has sparked cynicism and unrest between many. Photo-journalists much of the time take their lives into their own hands when they document the horrors of this

"One of the most often asked questions I've seen regarding photography, above how to do something, is 'what is the best camera?', or 'what camera should I get?'.
Or something along those lines. The critical thing to note is that there is no such thing as the best camera.
Sure there are cameras that are technically better at certain things, for example, some cameras have very high resolutions, other are very good at low light photography, some are very small, and so on, but there's no su
Photography Troubleshooting: How to work with MistGetting the camera out, and the scarf, hat and gloves, and heading into a misty morning or hazy evening can result in the best kind of photographs. Atmospheric, moody and ultimately a fine example of whatever current season you're in - these kinds of shots present themselves at awkward moments so it's vitally important to be prepared. In previous years I've got up at the crack of dawn and ventured out with all the excitement of a young child on their first day of school - only to come home with a grazed knee and broken felt tip pens. Or rather, washed out, blurred and altogether rubbish photographs.Photography Troubleshooting: How to work with Mist in Photography More Like This
Fog is a popular mist - we often get confused and just term it all as fog or all as mist. It's not quite like that. It's all about the visibility, if we can see less than 1km through it then it's fog. If we can see between 1 - 2 km then it's mist. So when is the best time to catch these ground level clouds at their best? Fo
Wanna Kill...(this is from a friend of mine on FaceBook)Wanna Kill... in Personal More Like This
Wanna kill yourself? Imagine this. You come home from school one day. You've had yet another horrible day. You're just ready to give up. So you go to your room, close the door, and take out that suicide note you've written and rewritten over and over and over You take out those razor blades, and cut for the very last time. You grab that bottle of pills and take them all. Laying down, holding the letter to your chest, you close your eyes for the very last time. A few hours later, your little brother knocks on your door to come tell you dinners ready. You don't answer, so he walks in. All he sees is you laying on your bed, so he thinks you're asleep. He tells your mom this. Your mom goes to your room to wake you up. She notices something is odd. She grabs the paper in your hand and reads it. Sobbing, she tries to wake you up. She's screaming your name. Your brother, so confused, runs to go tell Dad that "Mommy is crying and sissy won't wake up."
