This is what this contest is about: Fan Fic writers are invited to tell us what swapping bodies with a character from any fandom of their choice would be like.
Write a short Fan Fiction about your body swap experience with a character in a fandom of your choice.
You must put YOURSELF in their body, and the fandom character in your body. We want to see both characters facing this freaky incident.
You now posses their body and all their powers, but there are limitations. Please refrain from writing anything of sexual nature.
The character now posses your body and has to face reality! So they no longer have their special powers and no one but themselves know about the swap. For example: They would break their hand trying to get coins to pop out of bricks! Or even a co
Redesign a character contest! If there's something we love about fan art is how artists take artistic liberties and portray characters in their own style and different scenarios we wouldn't see otherwise. Some people will say that fan art is unoriginal, but from experience there's a lot of creativity involved when it comes to depicting your favourite characters in a different light, deviating from the way they were designed by their creators.Redesign a character contest! in Deviant Events More Like This
This is why, inspired by the Pokedesign Challenge by *CrazyRatty on Tumblr, your friendly neighborhood Fan Art CVs decided to host a fun little contest for you!
How it works:

PE Daily Deviations - So you want to suggest DDs?You're browsing deviantART or are simply checking your message centre and find a wonderful art piece. You want to suggest it as a Daily Deviation because you believe it truly deserves to be seen by the community as a whole. But how to properly suggest a DD? This article will explain the process.PE Daily Deviations - So you want to suggest DDs? in Deviant Events More Like This
Things to check before sending a suggestion:
The first thing you need to check is if the artist has been given a Daily Deviation in the past 6 months. Volunteers cannot feature anyone who's had a DD in that period of time with no exceptions, as this has been hard-coded into deviantART's system.
"But how do I check an artist's Daily Deviations?" you may ask. Simply go to their gallery, click browse and scroll down. If they have any DDs, you'll be able to find a link to them at the bottom of the page. Alternatively, you can add "/dds" after their profile url and click enter on your browser's address bar.

Born in Tokyo, Japan on the 23rd of March 1910, Akira Kurosawa is considered one of the biggest figures in the film industry and a notable influence to western filmmakers such as George Lucas, Francis Ford Coppola and Steven Spielberg.
His career started in 1936 as an assistant director. Kurosawa was taken under the wing of director Kajiro Yamamoto, who promoted him to chief assistant director within a year. His first film as a director was Drunken Angel in 1948 and was the first of many collaborations with actor Toshiro Mifune. His international breakthrough came with Rashomon in 1950, a movie that won him the top prize at the Venice Film Festival and opened the gates of the Western to Japanese films.
The following years he worked on Ikiru(1952); Seven Samurai (1954), his first "proper samurai film" regarded by some as the greatest Japanese film ever made; and Throne of Blood (1957), an adaptation of Shakespeare's Macb

Top 10 reasons why Photomanipulation rocks.Hi everyone,Top 10 reasons why Photomanipulation rocks. in Personal More Like This
So, I was talking with a friend this morning, and she asked me, "Why do you love photomanipulation so much? You're a good photographer."
My first response was, "Uh, no, I'm not." But her question made me think. For me, I do love photomanipulation itself, but it's more about the community. I came to dA to become a better artist. But I stayed because of the people.
Here are ten reasons why I fell in love with this community. (They are really in no particular order except for #1.)
10. Our medium is accessible to everyone.
You don't have to be a great painter or photographer to learn photomanipulation (though, like anything else, it does help). It takes time and practice, and there are a lot of tutorials out there to help you learn. You can do it. There are a lot of artists out there who make amazing photomanipulations but who cannot paint very well. It is fairly easy to learn, but it takes a LOT of work to become proficient.

The Rising Stars in Photomanipulation interview series focuses on upcoming rock stars from the photomanipulation community whose names you really ought to know! This week I am so excited to introduce you to someone who not only demonstrates tremendous skill in our medium, but also gives generously to the community via the creation of incredibly clean, well-composed tutorials.
I am happy for you to meet FP-Digital-Art, an Italian artist who has been with us on dA for a bit more than a year. Please enjoy the interview that he was so kind to give, and don't forget to take a moment to check out his gallery!
So, let's start with your program of choice: Photoshop, GIMP, PSP, or other?

Thank you for your patience in waiting for the results; we've had a lot of work in figuring out the winners from thousands of critiques!
We had nearly 2,000 critiques during the event! There were over 160 members who were divided into 40 teams. Between them, there were thousands of deviations to be critiqued! The teams had one week to critique as many deviations as possible-- BUT to do so while maintaining the high standard of quality we are so proud to have here on deviantART!
It's easy to write a lot of comments, but it's difficult to write a lot of phenomenal comments! In scoring, we focused on both quantity and quality of critiques. In

A tour in the world of Surreal Photomanipulations
For years, surreal photomanipulation and its artists have been showing a great variety of works in this style, surprising and inspiring to all of us with their images. If you already had the pleasure to see pieces of this genre, I´m sure you´ve been amazed with what a surreal piece can offer, but if you haven´t . . . what better time than this one to learn and see the incredible options this style have for you?
But first, the most important thing is to know what we are saying when we refer to a "surreal photomanipulation." To have a better understanding, let´s ask the most basic question . . .
What is a Surreal photomanip?
Surreal photomanipulations displays the mind and imagination of an artist and its unique way to represent that into the final work. These pieces can be really appealing to the eyes or disturbing. Subconscio

You know, as photomanipulators, we rely pretty heavily on the stock and resources community, and the opposite is true as well. It is because of this symbiotic relationship that both communities flourish, growing and evolving off of each other. Because of stock artists here on dA and elsewhere, we are able to create our manipulations. Stock inspires us; it drives us to create by capturing in visual image format that which we envision in our minds. So, for our Project Educate week, I sat down to have a conversation with Elandria, one of our Community Volunteers (CVs) for stock and resources and a fantastic digital artist, who I am fortunate enough to call a friend as well as a colleague.
Here's how that conversation went!

We are pleased to announce the winners of the Halloween Murder Mystery Contest that was run through Halloween-HQ! First, let us tell you exactly what happened.
The killer was the Queen of Hearts. Ruthless and cold, she set out to kill Prince Charming for repeatedly spurning her unwanted shows of affection. She used a thin knife and struck when the lights went out during the castle ball. Quickly realizing what she had done and that she had gotten the wrong victim, she fled across Fairyland, through the dark forest, and back to her own castle.
Well, we originally had 3 prizes: 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place based on scores from the characters you visited. (You didn't know you were being scored, did you?) So, we are long overdue to announce the winners for the "A Candle in the Dark" contest at mental-health. That's my fault; I hope you will forgive me (Aeirmid).
The point of the Candle in the Dark contest was to have people reflect on the things (coping mechanisms, people, etc.) that helped them get through their darkest times and come out stronger for the journey. It's about overcoming obstacles and growing. We had many, many amazing entries; you can see them here.
It was extremely difficult for those of us who judged the deviations to find a winner. How do you rate one person's pain and triumph against another? There really is no "right" or "wrong" answer. In the end, we went with the images and stories that were the most moving, powerful, and/or beautifully crafted. This could have gone about 20 ways, as each judge had her own ideas of what should win. In the end,

It's been quiet lately. Too quiet. And I don't mean in the "something awful's bound to happen" kind of way, I mean in the "where the heck is everybody?" kind of way. We're more than halfway through the month and I haven't set a Daily Deviation since Halloween. No one has sent me any suggestions! And while DDs aren't the be-all end-all, this is indicative of a more deep-rooted problem.
Look, I'm one of you, so I understand the ins and outs of this community. We're not as unified as, say, the general Lit community, for twofold reasons.
First off, we're not even a community so much as a modular collective. We're categorized by our fandoms--general Lit is accessible to all, but nine times out of ten, a fan fic speaks a language that only other fans can understand. And that's not necessarily a bad thing. Some of my favorite fanfictions are the ones that go hardcore geek.
Secondly, our pastime is not one that gets a lot of respect. Fan fiction has a

But for many people, finding a literary helpmate can be difficult.

They say a picture can tell a thousand words... but what about a thousand words telling a picture? That's the goal of every writer, and if they're not Alan Moore, then seeing their work brought to life through someone else's imagination is one of the greatest thrills of writing. This year I held my second contest challenging artists to breathe their life into my words, and this year's entries have astounded me. Last year's entries were good, but this year's were more and better, and it blew me away. I feel both honored and disappointed that I cannot reward more of you.
But I had to choose. It was not an easy choice, and in the end I had to turn to the advice of some trusted friends and discuss the merits of these pieces with them. I both love and hate this part, because as much as I know I'm making some peoples' days, I know I have to break a few hearts (or at least disappoint them) too. And so, without any more adi

The Literature Community ExperimentThis is a typical example of a Beccalicious shower pondering! The idea of this is to try and bring together as many people as possible all in one journal, but not for the sake of making a big number, but to encourage interaction and share useful tidbits. We often say the "literature community" has drifted apart over the past few years and this is just one attempt to try get people to come back together. For young children, school is about learning and exploring those basic skills we now take for granted as we get older. We learn them through a variety of lessons, and reading is essentially one of those. Do you remember those stories you read when you were in Primary or Elementary school?

PE Daily Deviations- Presentation of your workHello all!PE Daily Deviations- Presentation of your work in Deviant Events More Like This
Well we’ve had a fascinating week so far; a week which hopefully has provided some insight not only to the process of DD selection but helped you understand what we look for in DDs as CVs. As we draw to the end of this week, I bring you an article which will whet your Saturday with thoughts that don’t just apply to the DD feature, but something which should be a consideration to everything you submit to dA. I am talking about deviation presentation.
Why is Presentation important?
Art isn’t always about just being “creative”. There are techniques and skills which develop over time which contribute to the quality of the work you produce and alongside this comes a developed understanding of good presentation.
Good presentation could be anything from cropping a photograph, to spell checking your literature. These are common sense things that in the rush of wanting to show off your creativity can sometimes be

PE: Story Planning Week!Greetings everyone and welcome to another fun-packed week at projecteducate! This week has been teamed back up with CRLiterature and will be focussing on story planning!PE: Story Planning Week! in Literature Features More Like This
What do we mean by “story planning”?
Planning a story sounds like an easy task- even at primary school level you are taught that a story must have a beginning, a middle and an end. However there are plenty of important elements that build a story; a lot of prep work that can actually improve the quality of your novel writing in the long run. This can cover almost anything- from world building, character development, creating past history and plot mapping etc. There is a huge range of elements that can turn your idea into a strong well-structured novel.
Are you going to tell me how to write a novel?
Not exactly. We can’t tell you how to approach your novel and how to write it from chapter 1 through to the end. We’re not giv
Literature DDs and You Hey Guys, the response on this has been AWESOME so far! Please keep comments and questions (and of course DD suggestions) coming because it is really positive to see what our community is thinking!Literature DDs and You in Personal More Like This

Hope you all are having a lovely weekend? I am having a romantic evening of laundry and X factor tonight, after a day out yesterday in Birmingham watching the gymnastics world championships in Tumbling, Trampolining and DMT which was pretty awesome. The journey back was a little scary after seeing an accident and then driving through fog back to Derby. Will be hanging around in chat tonight, so poke in and say hello!
I have a feeling anyone who has had the privilege of featuring literature DDs has been where I am today. Whether the title Galley Director, Gallery Moderator or now "Community Volunteer" has been involved, one of our roles as volunteers is to select
PE: The Community and Critique!Last week at the beginning of project educate, I conducted a survey to see what opinions the community had on the subject of critique. Here are some of the highlights of the responses made to each of the questions.PE: The Community and Critique! in Deviant Events More Like This
Do you put your art work up in hope of obtaining critique?
"Not necessarily.. but feedback is always most appreciated. I've started taking the initiative to becoming my own critic while I make my work.. Judging the appearance while sketching it is a powerful tool for me and makes me respect the art of critical thinking even more. " TheCreativeJenn
" Yes. I strive to become a better artist, so I hope by posting it, I can get exposure and someone who is willing to pick my story to pieces and show me the error of my ways. A reliable editor would be my dream best friend." Cassildra
"Generally, yes. Exposure and critique. It doesn't have to be thorough, but I'd much rather have a comment that tells me what works and what doesn't, rather than just "cool",
So you want to be a CV...Sometimes I like to wander through the communityrelations group, and I always come across comments from people so willing to become volunteers, I constantly come across people who say "Applied for ___ gallery!", "I can't wait to be 18 to apply!", "I so want to be on the team!", there are some who list the complete CR roster in their personal profiles, who openly say in their tagline, signatures or devIDs "Hoping to be a CV one day", etc. This is specially evident in the The Community Relations Team journal, where the opening positions are listed. So you want to be a CV... in Art Features More Like This
To those people: take this journal just as a personal opinion and a friendly advice from a fellow community member, someone who loves the community and is willing to contribute and give back the way one can. This comes from my personal experience, shouldn't be taken as the whole Community Relations nor deviantArt's official stance.

I still remember how she looked on the last day of her life. It is an image, and a feeling that I will never forget. I hold onto the cherished moments, re-playing her smile, laughter and tears. It has been one year ago today that my Mother died. She fought a long, unforgiving battle with Lung Cancer for ten agonizing months before succumbing to it. I was first told the news from her on Mother’s Day. Since then, I have had numerous highs and lows. I was relieved at first when she told me that she “would fight this beast” and win. Regrettably, this was not to be. We were both excited when she got her first pretty wig, after losing all of her hair. I complimented her several times on how beautiful she looked, because I knew, even then, how appearances meant to her. She did not want others outside of her inner sphere knowing that she was deathly ill. She was a proud woman, who ached to continue t

What exactly is Photomanipulation?
To put it simply, it is the process of using two or more photographic elements and piecing them together to create a whole new work. It is a more extensive process than retouching (which only involves changes to a single photo).
