A very beautiful sunset at the south of the volcanoes park, from the " Puy de la Vache " more precisely. There was a fascinating lighting and the landscape showed a beautiful set of colors complemented by a great sky.

This is a very tight view of the sunset at the end of a rainy summer day.
The steam going out of the forest created a dreamy atmosphere.

This is the Labas lake in the french Pyrénées. weather conditions were particularly appropriate to capture the milky way.

This image is composit of 2 exposures, the first for the ground taken at 8h49 pm and
the sky exposure taken at 9h26 pm. As there were absolutely no moonlight I needed to take the ground exposure with the last crepuscular light to ensure a correct image quality.

I shot this without the polarizer to keep the cloud reflection intact. I think it worked out well, and I like it better than the version with the filter.

If you see a bunch of photos from this location in the near future it's because I'm still trying to find that "shot". I went back to lost dutchman state park as clouds were forming to the east and went back to the same comp as "Superstition storm". I waited and waited for the clouds to come over the mountains and kept my eye on the skies behind me. Everything was looking good. About five minutes prior to sunset a bank of clouds had formed over the western horizon and blocked the sun from producing that extremely special light I was looking for. I was able to come away with some keepers I think. Nothing too original comp wise, but it was something to leave with. The mountains themselves lit up at the very last moment, but the skies weren't super colorful like I was hoping. The light on the mountain was perfect, but the clouds to the west shut the sky off for the most part. The shot I'm looking for will have to wait for another day...

I may post another image before I leave for my trip so if I'm not active it's cause I'm traveling the pacific northwest. Enjoy!

Out of my many visits to the grand canyon, my most recent trip to the north rim by far was my favorite. I took one of my best photos during this trip, and even got an incredible sunset. This happened to be the most incredible sunset I've seen over the grand canyon out of all my visits. The colors in the sky just exploded and reflected back into the canyon. I was drawn to the variety of patterns in this particular scene between the sky and the canyon walls. When the sky lit up like the fourth of July, I began running all over the point shooting various angles and sides of the canyon. To be up at the grand canyon and not deal with hordes of crowds at sunset is a gift in itself, but to have these conditions just made it all the better. As far as processing goes, this is a blend of two images. One for the sky, and the other for the landscape. I kept the sky as close to how it appeared on camera while I boosted the contrast in the canyon to give some definition and depth. For some perspective, the canyon walls along the horizon are a little over 10 miles away.

A picturesque sunset above the famous limestone arch Manneporte near Étretat. In the pictures foreground: gorse shrubs in full bloom at the beginning of April - very typical for this region.

After spending 3 weeks shooting in northern france I released the results on my website. I'll upload them here on DA during the next days.

Lake Manapouri
New Zealand

During our recent trip to New Zealand, I did one night of the Kepler Track and found myself at Shallow Bay on the shores of Lake Manapouri. Rising mists and light rained combined to give this rainbow over the lake itself. This seemed to last forever and was one of many great moments of our trip. This was an exposoure blend of three images done manually. I did take one with a big stopper but found the feel completely different without the ripples of water and sheen.

The actual footage of the rainbow can be seen in this video

Roy's Peak
Wanaka Area

The walk up to Mount Roy from Lake Wanaka takes you more than 1km straight up along a 4WD track initially, then a steep and narrow ridgeline. The weather was very kind that evening for the walk down after dusk but well worth the view, the blisters and the takeout dinner afterward ! Lake Wanaka meanders off into the distance framed by the town of Wanaka on the right and Mount Aspiring National Park on the left. One of many memorable moments from our now distaant trip to New Zealand in May.

Glenorchy Lagoon
New Zealand

Our time spent around Lake Wakatipu was characterised by clear conditions which meant freezing mornings. This led to the marsh grasses freezing over and layers of mist over the water surfaces in the early morning. Charlotte was asleep on my back for the whole time we were out here but hopefully she took in some of the freshness of the whole experience from just being there :) Marianne was also out and about taking pictures which I will have to bug her to post here !

An image from a recent trip in the volcanoes, as you can see the sunset was very pleasant. The image was done with two focus points to have the flowers in the foreground as sharp as the mount
ains in the background. There was constant wind and I couldn't get less blur in the flowers, but it created a nice effet in the grasses a bit further too, and it's still my best shot from this good moment.

One of the most intense sunset I have ever seen !
It was shot on a local hill with my bro's 5D mkII... it rained during all the afternoon and it was still raining at sunset time, but there was a thin band of clear sky far away at west, and the rain almost stopped for a short moment... the whole sky was suddenly on fire !

This shot was taken yesterday's morning in a magnificient valley.

We planned this trip just the day before as we knew there could be fog and cirrus clouds at sunrise time... indeed there was a sea of mist, and the cirrus clouds made a wonderful glowing light at dawn which tinted the mist, while the land was still dark. A magic moment spent in a preserved wild landscape.

The best sunset I've seen in years. Taken last night on the shores of the Great Salt Lake, Utah. There was a smoky haze in the air from local wildfires that softened the light so even the brightest highlights weren't blown out. Sunsets this good are hard to predict, but as a photographer it doesn't get much better than this. I hope you like it!
