People + Portraits Photography: Body Art RecapWithin the People and Portraits Photography Gallery there are various galleries that have their own Community Volunteer and go to person for Daily Deviation suggestions and so on. Body Art has its own niche within the People & Portraits Gallery and this has been the case since 2010. `Exillior explains the changes more fully in this journal.People + Portraits Photography: Body Art Recap in Community Relations More Like This

"Which of my photographs is my favorite?
The one I'm going to take tomorrow." ~ Imogen Cunningham
I'm loving jars this month. I'm not sure why, other than the fact that I saw some set up at a craft fair that I had a table at, and I just fell in love with them. A couple of large jars with some fairy lights nestled in them - the effect was immense. It was so simple too! Sadly the people weren't actually selling the lights, but once I'd made a little profit on my sales, I went over clutching my ten pound note and picked out a few. So I was delighted to see that on Flipboard today, there was an article exploring 19 great photos of jars. If you're stuck for inspiration, grab a jam jar (take the jam out first maybe) and start shooting. Shoot things through them, around them, in them - get creative! Jars are awesome.

I read a very interesting article this week debating Photography Vs Literature and which one of the two tells us more. Of course there is always the element that a picture could be accompanied by words but neither aspect is enough to tell a whole story. But as the article says, Photography has become a universal constant in the world today and is accessible to nearly everybody. Yet many still believe that only pure narration can truly tell a story. What are your thoughts? As Photographers we can choose to limit what we tell or show with a photograph, we can even mislead. Can we convey more with words? Or more with an image? You could describe a person with words but never truly give an accurate picture of who they are visually without a photograph...

“Everyone talks about the weather, but no one does anything about it.”
― Mark Twain
The sky is so often underestimated in terms of Photography that I felt compelled to give it a bit of love and talk about it in this weeks article. I've been following UK Storm Chasers on facebook who have been documenting the arrival of the 'demon child of Nadine' as it has been deemed. Hurricane Nadine is still out there in the Atlantic Ocean spinning around and preparing to send the UK another demon child (which is really just a tropical storm to us) and with it comes a plethora of opportunities to snap some stunning skies and horizons. But do we appreciate the sky enough? I don't think we do. When was the last time you stopped shooting at eye level and looked up? Often, there's nothing there - but often too, there's something worth capturing. The general rule when capturing la

Welcome to the first edition of Meet the Fractal community !

From Resources to Fractal Art #1Hi deviants !From Resources to Fractal Art #1 in Art Features More Like This
Welcome to my new series : "From Resources to Fractal Art".
What is really interesting in the fractal community, is the way deviants interact between each others to share their knowledge with tutorial or Parameters Pong (Sharing Parameters to tweak the main fractals).
Therefore, in this article I'm going to select a resource randomly and show you how to start from a tutorial to achieve a wonderful fractal.
This week, let's take a look at `lindelokse tutorial : Apophysis 3D Blooms Tutorial
This tutorial is an evolution of her first tutorial about 2D blooms.
Since Chiara explained us how to create bloom a lot of deviants tweaked and had fun with this technique!
Here's a lil' sample of what you can find in this category !

Odyssey, Clive and PETAFor those just tuning in, I have the privilege of working very closely with the Odyssey II Project with Clive Barker and I couldn't be more excited. The following is my personal opinion on the project, Clive and PETA, so I encourage you to direct any conversation regarding what you read here, to the comments below, so I can respondOdyssey, Clive and PETA in Community Relations More Like This
First, I'm a huge fan of Clive Barker's work. His artwork and his stories have entranced me for years but beyond that, he's truly a deviant. *CliveBarker has become an active member of the community, submitting his artwork and commenting on others. He's a perfect fit in my opinion, but that's not entirely why I'm writing today.
Clive's initial choice for a cause to donate the proceeds of this project to, is PETA and if you've been watching the #ODYSSEYPROJECT unfold, you've certainly seen several opinions in regards to the organization.
If you know me at all,

Movember is quickly coming to a close and the shave-off events are eagerly awaited by our Mo'Bros who have suffered through all sorts of mo-mishaps over the last 28 days. For those of you that have participated, I thank you and ask you to make the last two days really count and reach out to your friends and families for those last minute donations.
For the rest of you, I am making this final push on behalf of all of the deviantART Sta.sh teams to request that you reach into your pockets and make a donation, regardless of how big or small, to the Movember effort. I realize how hard this may be considering you're likely broke after Black Friday and Cyber Monday, but should you find a dollar or two - we would greatly appreciate your donation
The amount isn’t important, every little bit helps Movember continue its funding of world-class programs. If you want to know more about what you’ll be helping to fund, you can visit

1. Miscellaneous vs Other
Over the past few months, we've been diligently working on cleaning up the category tree of old and unused categories. While most of this will go unnoticed by the community, what you will notice is the change from "Miscellaneous" galleries to "Other". The reason for this change is simple. The concept of Miscellaneous leads one to believe that it's a junk drawer category for everything under the sun when the intention was to be an "Other" category for deviations that don't fit well in other sub-categories of the tree. We're also working on u
Not So Traditional Tuesdays #4My plan is to keep the features fresh for me(and you) and maybe open a few eyes to all the different kinds of artwork that is available while browsing the deviantArt galleries. The things that make one piece of art great applies, for the most part, to other genres. A painter can learn how light and shadow fall from photography, photo-manipulators can learn about composition from a great Manga drawing, and literature can give you the inspiration to try something new or take your work to the next step. You may never try all art forms you see! You can however take what you learn from them and incorporate that into your own work. It could be the difference between stagnating and that breakthrough every artist wants to find! Not So Traditional Tuesdays #4 in Art Features More Like This

Traditional Tuesdays #41Hi, and welcome to the 41st edition of Traditional Tuesdays. This week, like all of the other weeks, I'll be featuring fifteen works of art from the Traditional Gallery. Any more than that might and you might loss interest or it could cause your monitor to fail in an explosion of awesomeness. I would feel guilty if that were to happen, so I'm keeping it at fifteen! Traditional Tuesdays #52OMG OMFG OMFG! This is week fifty-two of this little article, and I can honestly say that I didn't think it would last this long. The night I started this feature, I was bored and just browsing around the Traditional Gallery. I was finding all kinds great artwork, that for one reason or another I couldn't/wouldn't give a DD. It could be because they had a DD recently, but mainly it was for a link to go back and see what they created next, and if they took it to the next level. Now it's more for artwork that I no longer have time to DD, I can't DD everything! I still find the article fun to do, and I'll keep doing it until it no longer is. So.... here is fifteen works of art that I thought you should see. I can't trust all of you all with anymore awesomeness, you might hurt yourself! Digital Art Feature - Fantasy."Fantasy art is a genre of art that depicts magical or other supernatural themes, ideas, creatures or settings. While there is some overlap with science fiction, horror and other speculative fiction art, there are unique elements not generally found in other forms of speculative fiction art. Depictions of ancient myths and legends, as well as depictions of modern day fantasy in the form of divine interventions and other magical or supernatural forces, are very common elements, and help distinguish fantasy art from other forms. Dragons, wizards, fairies and other fantastical and mythical creatures are common features in fantasy art." - Wikipedia.Digital Art Feature - Fantasy. in Art Features More Like This

deviantART's Birthday Hunt!Update! I know that a few of you are having problems, so I'll give a few clues:deviantART's Birthday Hunt! in Contests More Like ThisEveryone involved in the Hunt here is a Community Volunteer.
One of the letters has something to do with their name.
Every thread should lead to the next thread, except the last and final thread which has no clue!
Though there is one currently going on in the chatrooms here, the +chats go hand in hand with the +forums, which means there is another hunt taking place to celebrate deviantART's 12th birthday!
This particular hunt focuses on just two letters only, in which one letter will lead you to a particular forum, and the other to a particular deviant. As each clue leads you to another forum, a new deviant, we are asking you to...Jot the names of these people down.
Take down the name of the forum they posted in.

=popoks, tell us a bit about yourself! How did you get into photography and why?
Well I'm Bebe,30+ , Female , I really like The Peanuts cartoon and Clint Eastwood, I like DeviantART too.
How do i get into Photography?
When I was little I remember it was always exciting to be in front of the camera as a model. Kids love that and so did I.
I got my first analog in 1989 and I took a lot of pictures of my family and nature. I got my digital camera in 2001 and I only shot portraits no still life whatsoever. In 2006, I saw a friend's DA page where he posted his tattoo art, and thought what's this? This sites so boring...I left.
But then in 2007 I checked DA again and I started to browse through it and I thought not bad, I created my account and uploaded pictures. While still wondering how do people create bokeh, or how do they create such a beautiful picture with beauti

My style… I am not sure I found it yet. Well, I am always looking for it, tho! I see finding one's style as a constant struggle. In my works you can find lots of bright colors, very often things are kept simple, minimal maybe in content or simple in composition. Mostly I try to keep away from

Names you should know: =sara-hel
The Rising Stars of Photomanipulation series focuses on individuals who are up-and-coming talents in the photomanipulation community. These individuals have been on our site for varying lengths of time and have different styles and tastes in art, but all are developing some pretty awesome skills and deserve your attention.
This week, I am really excited to introduce you to Sara, =sara-hel, a Lebanese deviant who has been with our community for 2 years. She excels at many styles of photomanipulation, but for me what stands out about her art is that it is very emotive. When I look at her work, I get drawn into it, as there is always a story or meaning there that makes me want to know more. Also, it has not gone unnoticed that she generously gives back to the community by providing stock and tutorials.
Please enjoy her interview. And, why not take a moment to check out her gallery as well? You won't be disappointed.

The status quo in the photomanipulation community is GO! GO! GO! We have been extremely busy with creating, supporting one another, and dreaming up contests and other fun challenges. I have been delayed in reporting our news for personal reasons, so this news article is jam-packed with goodness that you, the photomanipulation community, need to know!
Let's get started!
Calling on Community Leaders
We have a wonderful photomanipulation community here, and I'm really honored to serve you all as your Community Volunteer (CV). I have been trying to post weekly news, conduct interviews and do features, post DDs, organize Project Educate and other community challenges, host critique events, and hold contests that I hope are challenging and interesting. Photomanip News and Feature - 12 AugustHi everyone,Photomanip News and Feature - 12 August in Digital Art More Like This
I hope you have enjoyed your week! It's been kind-of quiet around here lately; have you all been at the beach?

Please welcome . . .
Every week we will try to feature a new member of our community. If you know of a new member (who has been here 6 months or less) and want to have a "welcome" feature for them, please note their name to =ChisSweetArt.
This week, we are welcoming =WriteGirl, Tanya, a writer-turned-manipulator! She has been in our community for about a month, and she has already contributed a great deal through her nicely-developing artistry and inspiring sense of creativity. Here are some of her lovely works for you to admire:
Why not drop by her gallery, leave a comment or two, and welcome her to our community? We've all been new at one point or another, and it's nice to make new friends.
Community Voices: What is a Daily Deviation?DDs: The deviantART definitionCommunity Voices: What is a Daily Deviation? in Projects More Like This
So, as the title says, What in the world IS a Daily Deviation (DD), anyway?
You know what deviantART says about it, right? Under :faq61: it says:
A small assortment of submissions are chosen each day by a select group of staff/volunteer members who wish to showcase an image which they found impressive or otherwise interesting enough to deserve being brought to the attention of the community-at-large.
That says nothing about a DD being a perfect specimen of art-- in fact, it doesn't even use the word "art" at all.Basically, as CVs, when we are giving a DD, we are doing so because we think the image is interesting and well-done and deserves your attention. It may be technically exquisite. It may be technically quite good but exceptionally thought-provoking. It may be exceedingly creative. It may be all of these things! Above all else, it should stand out in some way from others in that medium or gallery.
