PETA, Mario, and Frank Miller.Got a couple of fun news articles this past week. First up is PETA.PETA, Mario, and Frank Miller. in Personal More Like This
Shortly after Super Mario 3D Land debuted on the 3DS, PETA started posting about how "evil" the game is because Mario wears a Tanookie suit. Apparently despite the fact it's set in a magical kingdom full of fantasy and whimsy, the fan's long awaited revival of the Tanookie suit is encouraging the wearing of real life skinned animal furs.
My first reaction to this was annoyance, followed by laughter. It is rather silly to be going after Mario for something like this... especially when there are far better candidates in the video game world for animal cruelty... like say... Cabelas?
Remember a while back when they went after "Cooking Mama" because you cooked meat in the game? Or when they tried to make a knock off of Super Meat Boy? If you're going to protest animal abuse/murder/testing/etc... wouldn't it be better to go after real life stuff instead of fantasy cartoon video games? I support animal rights too, but going

You cannot transfer your collection of UMD based PSP games to the Vita.
If you want to play the games you already bought for the PSP you must rebuy them.
You have to buy an expensive proprietary memory card if you want to save anything.
Without an expensive proprietary memory card, many Vita games can't be played at all.
The battery life for the Vita is worse than the 3DS's.
Downloaded games are only about 10% cheaper than the same retail version.
AT&T is the service carrier for the Vita.
The cheapest phone plan only nets you 250mb a month.
The device has already been hacked.
The cheapest you can get a Vita (while getting the smallest memory card and cheapest monthly data plan) is roughly $295. If you actually want to get an enjoyable experience out of the device the most expensive that you'd have to pay (including the most expensive memory card and data plans) is $480. Neither of those price

Last week at E3, the excitement, creativity and future of our industry was on display for a global audience.
For us, the future comes in the form of Xbox One, a system designed to be the best place to play games this year and for many years to come. As is our heritage with Xbox, we designed a system that could take full advantage of advances in technology in order to deliver a breakthrough in game play and entertainment. We imagined a new set of benefits such as easier roaming, family sharing, and new ways to try and buy games. We believe in the benefits of a connected, digital future.

Wow. That whole bit about the winter soldier being Bucky Barns? Complete red herring for the major plot twist that upends pretty much the entire Marvel Cinematic Universe at this point! Kudos Marvel for keeping that plot secret for so long!
Also, not only is it a great political thriller in its own right with strong parallels to current events, but it's also a great character building movie. Black Widow in particular goes through a very strong arc in the film.
Oh yeah and the teaser at the end? Fuckin' hell Marvel... !!!!!
Awesome movie. Strongly recommend!

Meh. I honestly have stopped caring about smash bros since Melee. Can't afford a wii-u, don't really desire the game. Glad everyone else is pumped but personally I just can't muster energy to care.
Question though... Who thought giving Zero Suit Samus 90's inspired Rebook sneaker heels was a good design choice? They look atrocious.
TMNT 2014 Michael Bay Trailer RevealedTangentially related but isn’t it kinda silly how so many people in the gaming community bitch and whine about how no one should “judge a game by it’s cover” whenever people have a problem with promotional artwork that’s released to the public *COUGH*metalgearsolidquietdesign*COUGH*, yet then turn around and BEG and PLEAD for everyone to judge a trailer for an upcoming movie like Michael Bay’s TMNT?TMNT 2014 Michael Bay Trailer Revealed in Personal More Like This
So the new trailer for the Michael Bay TMNT movie has been debuted:
It looks pretty stupid IMO. The designs of the turtles are generally awful and unappealing. The very worse of the immature “realism = adult” mentality that Michael Bay is noted for infusing into everything. Their shells look more like over stuffed backpacks, they TOWER above all the other actors in gangly long legs, and their faces fall right into the uncanny valley effect. Not to mention that the actor playing “the Shredder” is clea
The Hobbit: An Unexpected JourneySaw The Hobbit last night. It was very good... if a bit long. Don't get me wrong, I'm all for seeing all the little details interconnecting The Hobbit to Lord of the Rings and all that, but for the average watcher... eh... it kinda dragged. I overheard several people saying they fell asleep during the film, and I noticed more than once a number of people fidgeting and looking at their watches. Still, it's a damn fine movie and It's a shame we have to wait so long for the next two films. The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey in Personal More Like This
Having The Hobbit being written during the beginning of Lord of the Rings is pretty smart. You could effectively watch the 3 Hobbit movies and then immediately move right into the 3 Lord of the Rings movies. Kudos to Jackson for that, it'll be great to marathon run the two trilogies back to back.
This movie was, like the book, much lighter and funnier than The Lord of the Rings and I was surprised at how much from the books they actually kept. They
Convention BasicsComic Cons are our bread and butter. They're how we interact with our fans, how we sell a lot of our merchandise, and how we meet with other artists. Comic Cons are fantastic... but at the same time there is a lot of unknowns and variables to contend with. I'm just going to outline a couple of things which should be common knowledge. If any artists who have attended Comic Cons want to add their own advice in the comments section, please feel free to!Convention Basics in Personal More Like This
Make sure that you travel light. Try and fit everything you can in as small a space as possible to avoid having to pay for excess luggage. Even if you don't fly, getting around an unfamiliar city with piles of luggage will just complicate things. If the con is local, you can probably afford to have more stuff on your table. But if the con is far away, or you need to take a plane or bus, it's probably best to try and pack as light as you can while still having as much inventory as you can manage.
Tired of the Video Game IndustryWith the PS4 on the way, the gaming industry is alive once again reminding us how dull and boring and... wrong... it is. Here's a quick summary of some of the things I'm sick to death of hearing about when it comes to video games.Tired of the Video Game Industry in Personal More Like This
Polygones = Emotion
I'm sure you've all seen the jokes, but this one stems from David Cage, who gushed over the tech demo of an old man's face for the PS4, remarking about how the only way to get "true" emotion is by bridging the uncanny valley with high resolution models, hi-def textures, and realistic shaders. "True emotion" of course can't be found in books, TV, or cartoons because none of those things can depict the exquisite details of a wrinkled face in true HD glory. I'm sorry to say this, David Cage, but if I can get an emotional response out of 16-bit pixel sprites from Chrono Trigger, or a pictureless book... your logic is faulty.
I'm really getting tired of everything wanting to connect to everything else. I know
Miyazaki vs OtakuIn case you haven’t heard this, renowned Japanese animation icon Hayao Miyazaki was quoted as saying that the reason the anime industry is suffering is because it’s overrun with “otaku.”Miyazaki vs Otaku in Personal More Like This
You can read the full article here: http://www.animenewsnetwork.com/interest/2014-01-30/miyazaki/the-problem-with-the-anime-industry-is-it-full-of-otaku
Naturally, such a high profile artist such as Miyazaki coming down hard on Otaku has offended a lot of people and a bit of backlash has sprung up because of it. I’d like to try and reassure some of you that it’s not as bad as it might sound, and here’s why (please keep in mind this is from an American perspective).
“Otaku” in Japan is (or was) an offensive word, usually embodying the worse traits of obsessive basement dwelling collection completing socially inept geeks. It gained widespread negative connotations after the 1989 “Otaku Murders” carried out by Tsutomu Miyazaki (which are to

After doing a series of comics standing up for women's rights, there's a lot of really negative rumors going on around me right now. Most of which point to the hypocrisy that I use to draw fetish artwork and that recently I made pin-ups that were "sexy" in nature. Because, of course, if you're an artist who stands up for women's rights from that moment on you're not allowed to EVER draw women in a way that might be construed as potentially "sexy," lest you be labeled a hypocrite.
As I've mentioned before in previous journals, I really can't stand this mentality the internet has of polarizing extremes. You've always gotta be in one extreme or you're in the other. There's never the possibility that you could be in the middle like, you know, a normal person would be.
I understand why that is: it's easier to point out fallacies and bitch and whine about people when they fit into nice neat black and white spec

How well this idea catches on is a bit questionable, given the powerful “romance” of driving one’s car, but it’s certainly an indicator of things to come in the daily intersection of human and artificial intelligence and mobility. The reason why I went shopping is because the whole subdivision doesn't have electricity (and my family and I live in that subdivision.)

Then I was thinking of a way to make it cleaner...

FNAF requests are on hold for now. Oh and speaking of those, all four slots are taken up, sorry! Maybe I'll open them up again when I want to. :3
Anyways, I'm thinking of getting a new account....My style has draaaastically changed and maybe I'll open up a new profile or something. Since usernames are personal, I'm still thinking of one. Suggestions are open, but try not to think of anything crazy. XD
I just realized how I used to draw within a one-year span. Holy cow... 03< I don't suggest looking at my old pics but view at your own risk!!!! (No seriously, you'll hurt your eyes)

I almost lost that privileged today. My mom was in an accident that totaled her car. She managed to escape the wreck with nothing more than a broken toe. (She was hit from the backside). Had it been any harder then she could have suffered worse. She didn't and everyone at home is thankful for that.

I am not so sucked into pretty video games that I can't post.
I did fight off an alien invasion in my back yard.
You'll hear about that in tomorrow's news that came out yesterday.
I will explain the current situation:
I entered a small bout' of depression over the last couple weeks. It's not something I'm willing to discuss openly but let's just say it was heavy enough that it was preventing me from drawing too much. A friend helped me out though and I'm feeling a tad better. I do hope to resume drawing soon enough.
My computer is complete. I settled on the GTX 570 and plan on using EVGA's step-up program sometime in the future to pick up a GTX 680 or similar around late May/early June. This is assuming availability, of course.
The basic spec list is:
Intel Core i7 2600K, 3.4GHz with no overclocking
16GB DDR3 RAM at 1866MHz (I believe, the number might be off by a couple.)

Where I work, a random clothing chain store place thing, they were filming last night.
What were they filming?
THE LITTLE PEOPLE.
Tiny people! None of them were taller than a foot and a half I swear. I'm a pretty bigger-than-average guy at six foot and four inches (193 cm) so that made them feel all the smaller.
Two of them were older than I was. It was interesting. I never approached them or talked directly to them. In fact I kinda shyed away from the camera crew as much as possible.
The show will be on Discovery sometime in May they said. I likely will watch it just to see what our store looks like being filmed. MAYBE YOU'LL CATCH A GLIMPSE OF ME. Actually you probably won't. I avoided those cameras like an expert ninja. I got my manager a bit flustered when I disappeared as the camera crew approached the main checkout desks. That was funny.

Saturday mornings are super again. Harkening back to the glory days the 1970s and '80s when kids got their weekends going with Super Friends and School House Rock, Cartoon Network is launching DC Nation, a programming block that showcases the heroes of the DC Comics library. Anchoring the hour will be the CGI show Green Lantern: The Animated Series (10am/9c) and the continuation of the first season of Young Justice (10:30am/9:30c). Scattered Throughout the hour are animated shorts and interstitials with news and vignettes from around the DC universe.
Though some of the shorts feature big names like Superman and Batman, many will put the spotlight on "characters we've always wanted to see animated, but that might not be able to support a whole series," says Peter Giardi, senior vice president at Warner Bros. Animation, which is coordinating the block. Among the second-tier characters featured are Black Lightenin

I've been seeing lots of comments asking about why I don't answer messages or post more art. I want to offer my apologies. I just get so, so many notes, and my work is especially demanding these days. To top it all off, the last 6 months have been kind of rough for me personally and the combination of all these elements just means I don't have the time to answer.
Still, I want to thank every one for the constant supply of kind words, inspiring stories and compliments. I do get to read most of your notes (I think--- I hope!!) and the vast majority are so thoughtful. And with the kind of year I've had, it really lifts my spirits.
I'm hoping that by the end of the year, maybe during Thanksgiving or Christmas break, I'll be able to put together an FAQ. Lots of people ask for advice on how to get into animation, and I plan on answering that on

Q: How can I get a job in animation?
The absolute best thing you can do to get into animation as a career is to go to art school. Not only will you learn how to draw and how to SEE, you will meet people, students and teachers alike, who will give you new perspectives and will likely be the sources of your future jobs. (My first job came from one of my teachers.)
There are several schools that have fantastic animation programs that cover all facets of the atr form. Schools like the one I attended, CALIFORNIA INSTITUTE OF THE ARTS, will teach you animation (2D and 3D,) character design, storyboarding, bac

On ConfidenceOn Confidence in Personal More Like This
It is an easy trap to fall into, this concept of popularity and the desire to metric what others think of us and our art. Certainly, places like Deviant Art and Tumblr are very good at giving us raw numbers on which to balance our self-esteem and self-worth.
And so, I must say this to myself as a reminder TO myself as much as anyone else- Do not covet numbers or popularity. Instead take pride in what you’re doing and strive to be the best for your own, personal reasons and motivations. Pursue that which inspires you, and, above all, nomatter what, be joyful in that which you create.

Now, me, I happen to be a total nobody. I draw some stuff and spend most of my time just talking with awesome people and enjoying a sense of community with all you wonderful friends, bronies, and Equestrians. But I have noticed, at least within the past month or so, a slow march away from all the good and noble and kind behavior that has been a hallmark of out fandom since its inception. Specifically, this has been taking the form of pretty nasty and harsh criticisms of the show itself, from episode to episode. I don’t know if this is coming from a sense of familiarity with the source material or perhaps it’s the fact the creators and producers have been so open to interacting with us t

I'm guessing most folks have or will be hearing about the Bravo Network's The People's Couch segment that took aim at the Brony Documentary. Pony fans are at the same time remarkably creative, kind and fun individuals as well as sometimes awkward, tempestuous, and prone awesome and terrible levels of drama- Just like fans of everything else under the sun (and on Tumblr)
I'm not going to link to the video here because, frankly it's gross and I don't want to touch it with a 10 foot network cable. But its out there, you can find it on YouTube easily. The format seems to be a group vapid "Average Joes" sitting in front of a television and offering running commentary on whatever they're watching. In other words, it's what millions of 10 year-olds already do on YouTube, except with less professionalism and humor.

Save Our DerpySave Our Derpy in Personal More Like This
No doubt you’ve all seen or heard the hullabaloo around Ye Olde Intertubes in the days and weeks following our beloved Derpy’s named appearance in the FIM episode The Last Roundup. What began as a campaign by trolls wreak havoc was soon picked up by well-meaning-but-misguided bronies and fans. The controversy stems from the mistaken belief that the word “derpy” is synonymous with mentally challenged. Obviously, it’s not. Rather it means clutzy or accident prone. Further, fans maintained that her slightly-husky voice in the episode was an attempt to mock people with learning disabilities. Again, untrue. Voiced by actor Tabitha St. Germain, Derpy was mistakenly thought to be a boy pony and was based on a young boy who lives next door to Ms. St. Germain.
This tempest in a teapot stirred up around the fandom has now exploded into what seems to be a PR-pushback by Hasbro.
