The end of the decade was just a few hours away. Ships all around me were getting ready for the big fireworks show. It was one of the few times a year when ships of so many different nationalities were allowed to mingle.
With Olympic in New York, I was left in charge of both fleets. Aquitania was busy helping set up the fireworks and Majestic was supervising. She had good reason to. The fireworks were being run by Baltic and she wanted to make sure that they weren’t booby trapped.
Baltic was chosen for this task because of her expertise with fireworks. She had used them many times before in her pranks, they were especially useful as rockets to propel projectiles a long distance to their target. Since pranking was off limits this time, Baltic had to settle for a big boom.
She seemed happy about that and loved explaining to my sister how the system worked and how she wanted it to work.

Nevada and Missouri were docked next to each other in Sydney Harbor. Nevada was mourning the loss of her brother Oaklahoma. She’d heard that the old battleship had sunk while under tow to the mainland for scrapping. “He-he always wanted to die at sea.” She said.
“I know, but it’s a better fate than the scrappers yard.” Missouri replied. She sniffed. “I know that, it’s just- I can’t believe he’s gone. We’ve been through so much together.” She said. “What do you think he’d want you to do now?” Missouri asked. “He’d tell me,” Nevada switched to her brother’s distinctly Midwest accent. “You wipe that stupid frown off your face Neva and get out there and kick some ass.” She chuckled. “Yep, that’s exactly what he’d say.” She said.
“And will you?” Missouri inquired. “Abso-freaking-lutly!” Nevada ex

The newspaper men were having a field day with this. All around me I heard the cries of “The stock market’s crashed! Read all about it.”
I knew this was coming. Since the end of the Great War, the boom had gotten bigger and bigger. There was a reason why the humans called it the booming or roaring 20s. I was no expert in economics, not by a long shot but even I knew that a bust always followed a boom, once it reached its peak.
And the bigger the boom, the bigger the bust. When this boom got going, I had no doubt that while the 20s were a time for great prosperity, the 30s would be a time of great poverty.
Hearing the desperate cries of people as they crowded the banks, withdrawing everything from their account in panic, I knew we’d be in for some long, difficult years.
I shouted to them that they were not helping anyone with the frantic withdrawals. The banks relied on that money to stay alive, with

I was angry, extremely angry. Due to the decline in passenger traffic after the crash, Cunard had decided to switch me from my normal run to the Mediterranean.
It might sound lovely but trust me, it isn’t. From 1919-1933 the Mediterranean runs were called the Booze Cruises for obvious reasons. My main passengers were American’s tired of their country’s prohibition law. I didn’t blame them, of course a man has to drink. But even so, it was humiliating.
So, reluctantly I left Southampton on the first run. As I entered Gibraltar and passed by the Pillars of Hercules, I saw Mauretania coming from the opposite direction. “Hey, hey little sis, come to join the party?” She asked.
I glared at her and angrily slammed by bow down on the water, the equivalent to stomping your foot. “Ah, not so friendly?” Mauretania laughed. I gritted my teeth together.

Mauretania was acting as midwife next to her. “Nearly there.” She reported as Olympic gave another fierce contration. “Damn it, that hurts.” She moaned. “Shh, I know dear but concentrate. Just a few more minutes now come on.” Mauretania encouraged.
Yet another fierce contraction hit the young liner and she screamed in agony. Mauretania bit her lip in worry. Olympic had done this once before with Britannic but that was just one shipling. Mauretania could tell that there were more than that, at least two, possibly four even.
Olympic gasped for breath as she struggled. “Give me a big push Olympic.” Mauretania ordered. Olympic gritted her teeth and did as Mauretania asked, crying o

Missouri and Nevada were patrolling off Singapore with Prince of Wales and Repulse when a buzzing sound was heard. “Japanese planes, prepare for battle!” Wales cried. General Quarters was sounded on all four ships. Not a minute later, the Japanese zoomed in.
Nevada and Missouri opened up with their antiaircraft guns. As battleships, they had many more guns than any other ship and this became apparent as a black screen of flak appeared between the ships and the planes.
Repulse and Wales fought with their own guns as well but their screen wasn’t as thick as the American’s was and allowed some of the Japanese planes to get through and drop their bombs. “Wales watch out!” Wales heard Missouri’s cry and tried to turn sharply to port to avoid the bomb but he wasn’t fast enough. The bomb hit and exploded on his starboard side, just aft of the bridge.

As they got closer, Beelzemon gasped. Oh, my God! Its Valeri! He rushed over and knelt down in front of her.
Valeri was lying unconscious in a pool of her own blood, which was being washed away from the rain that was battering her relentlessly, her clothes were torn, and her body bruised.

The loud booming music rang in Andrew's ears. It was loud even for being outside, but especially for a wolves' ears, which are very sensitive. Even dog whistles drive him nuts.
Andrew attempted to seem optimistic as they approached the doors, which were hidden behind two large bouncers. Andrew glared at one of them and they moved aside, allowing them in; both giving them dirty looks up and down. I could easily tear them apart, Andrew thought, smiling as he passed them. Even though they were twice his size, even in his current form he had more strength than they did. However he was grateful he wouldn't have to deal with them tonight.
Andrew's ears only continued to hurt as they walked through a hallway and into a massive round room. He peered over the dance floor, seeing nothing but a sea of sweaty bodies in movement. The sight reminded him of the dirty grease in his frying pan.
The music was provocative and erotic, only irritating him more the closer they approached the

Andrew pulled up to the office building. It was already very busy with traffic going every which way on the corner street. Large crowds of people lined up at each corner to cross. "Do you want to come in with me?" Andrew asked leaning over to Rabeka, who was just waking up from a light nap.
"No, I'm going to stay here and sleep," she said, in between a few yawns.
"You're OK with being by yourself?" he asked, surprised.
"There's too many people around for them to notice me. The mob isn't that stupid. I have my phone on me though."
"OK, have it ready to dial me if there's something wrong."
"I will," she said, leaning her seat all the way back and throwing her jacking over her face.
Andrew ran his hand down her hair. She'll be OK, he reassured himself.
He cut the engine and hopped out of his Mazda. The air was thick with traffic smoke, rather difficult to pick up on any smells, but he doubted anyone from the mob would be in such a crowded place, however, if they kne

She was rummaging through the closet, and slamming drawers. Andrew kept a close eye outside her window for suspicious activity. Her street was empty, so seeing people approach her apartment would be easy.
This wasn't what either of them expected to do on their date. Andrew had no clue it would lead to this. He expected her to be safe, take her home, and she'd probably leave town on her own, but they were now in this together. Andrew agreed that he would not leave her, and right now his mission was to find a place to hide, either a hotel or his place. Leaving the

Andrew nodded once, and began to clap softly.
She nodded for a few seconds, before letting out a small chuckle.

That's interesting. Rabeka sat back, staring off into space again trying to put the pieces together.
Do you believe me? Andrew asked, eager to know what her real reaction to it was. It was no longer a game.
She breathed in slowly, I think I do.
Andrew was relieved. I can't believe it. She actually believes me. She trusts me, and she knows my secret! His fears were long past him now. She obviously didn't care what he was, as long as she knew, and now she did.

The next several mornings Rabeka and Andrew continued to spend time together before work. By this time they had become very comfortable with one another. Eventually, it was a planned event to meet for breakfast and walk and talk work. It was something he looked forward to each day. Their topics were very broad, and fast paced, since they had very limited time during the day to talk. Only in the mornings and sometimes during breaks could they sit down and share a conversation. Only so many minutes to use up. But each day, they never ran out of things to talk about. Andrew almost lost his voice the first week, he had never talked so much. Rabeka mostly remained shy and reserved, but she did open up a lot more than he expected. Their were unlimited surprises in this human. There were days however that she almost never talked, almost like something was bothering her. He never dared to ask what the issue was.
Today just like any other day, it was break hour during work. And

But today, he was not the animal he was intended to be. Today he was a calm and gentle wolf, making the most out of civil conversation; taking a stroll with its favorite human of all.
Andrew and Rabeka had spent an entire day talking about his past and everything there was to know about werewolves. She knew it all, and there was much more to learn. By now both felt completely comfortable around each other, even with Andrew in his werewolf form. It had not distracted or dissolved their conversations one bit, and Rabeka no doubt had grown accustom to seeing a large eight foot werewolf walking at her side.
Despite what could have been a complete awkward and frightening experience, the day turned out to be one of the highlights of Andrew's life, and possibly Rabeka's too. Andrew had

After brushing his teeth, he went to the stairs and slid the down the rail. It was early, a little after four A.M. He didn't mind getting up early. This was his usual routine: get up, work out, eat breakfast, and go to work.
Andrew needed a good workout every morning to help him get through the day. Werewolves burn a lot of energy, and to keep themselves from getting antsy or jittery, it took a hardy work out each day to control this. A few push-ups and a quick round the park run did the trick.
One would think exercise for a powerful werewolf would be pointless, but in fact, its was essential for their overall health and well-being. A werewolf's metabolism is lightning fast, coupled with a high internal body temperature, he would need to eat a huge amount of carbohydrates every hour to ke

You know what I consider the worst part about Weinergate?
It's not that Anthony Weiner tweeted his junk to a female constituent. Politicians have always been involved with sex scandals here in America since Jefferson. And for the most part, I could care less. Ron Paul could go Hugh Hefner on us and date a Playboy bunny every day of the week, and I'd still support his noninterventionist foreign policy and opposition to the Patriot Act.
And it's not that libtarded moonbats like Rachel Maddow and Cenk Ugyur were quick to defend the man, only to wipe egg off their faces once he confessed.
No. the worst part was undoubtedly the Republicans. As was expected, the "Moral Majority" was quick t
Reality Has A Liberal Bias?In his New York Times bestselling book Bias: A CBS Insider Exposes How the Media Distort the News, Emmy Award-winning journalist Bernard Goldberg wrote about the pervasive liberal bias he experienced firsthand while working at CBS News for 30 years. I don't know what compels me to argue. I guess it's this naive notion that, if you encounter someone with an incorrect belief and you provide them logic, reason, and evidence to the contrary, that they will abandon their belief. If that were the case, the world wouldn't be plagued with birthers, truthers, anti-vaccers, Keynesians, and other idiots with blatantly incorrect beliefs. You can lead an idiot to knowledge but you can't make them think.
So I know that arguing with people rarely changes their minds. So why do I persist with arguing? Do I derive pleasure from it? Hardly! If anything, it gives me grief. There's nothing more frustrating than knowing someone is demonstrably wrong, and even when you prove to them that they are, not only do they not admit it, but

5 Stupid Things About Taxes#1: They’re theft.5 Stupid Things About Taxes in Editorial More Like This
Go figure! The anti-tax, anti-government libertarian claims taxation is theft. Yeah, it’s a cliché thing for me to say, but it’s also a perfectly rational conclusion for me to reach. Theft, by definition, is taking someone else’s property without their consent. Taxation is the government taking away a portion of someone else’s wealth without their consent. Therefore, taxation is theft.
And no, the “social contract” does not magically make taxation not theft. I never consented to the state taking away my money for the sake of it providing me with services simply because I was born in this country. Me being dropped out of my mom onto a piece of land owned by the U.S. government (according to an imaginary boundary drawn on a piece of paper) does not equate consent to taxes any more than a sorority g

THE COLD AIR in Baron Rorke's study did little to calm his nerves. He was expecting visitors this night and they were not the best of company. A shiver of dread ran down his spine and he spent most of the twilight hours staring out of a large window which stood behind his writing desk. It was amazing, he felt, how quickly a man could become attached to a life of luxury; only to be made painfully aware of how easy it was to lose it. War was always a frightening thing, even more so when one had the knowledge and sense to realise that it was no longer an exercise of glory, but a simple festival of bloodshed and cold murder. In war it did not matter if you impaled a stranger on the edge of your sword, such a thing would be punishable in any city or country, but in times of war it became an accepted norm. If the man in front of you wore a different colour, then it was alright to kill him, it was alright to rip him apart fo

It cared not for the sensation of pain...
All that it remembered was a dream, An obsession -
One that drove it ever higher; ignoring all else!
Eventually it emerged from this shadowy hole, this dreary depth,
And in that moment, it learned of the truth.

When I was young I was taught that pain begets pain,
Anger and animosity, malice and cruelty;
So deeply inflicted, so lovingly gifted.
I tasted of its rotten core and dared to call it sweet.
But what do I have to show for it?
White hot scars that burn in my dreams.
Reminders of a fragmented bi-polar self;
Self inflicted propaganda, to reinforce the "truth".
Truth so lovingly fabricated by a weakness within,
So desperately crying out for vindication;
Openly denying all that might shed light upon me,
Seeking only the company of shades in shadows...
Within four walls I sleep in exile;
Quietly pretending that I am still sane,
Never noticing how it has all turned out;
Alone I remain the same...
Never reaching, never living; I am free within the cage

DieDie:Die in Free Verse More Like This
Such a simple word, spewed without thought.
"I wish you'd die, I wish you'd be killed."
But what if we actually gave meaning to those words?
Can you understand the emotion, the magnitude, the weight,
Of actually seeing the life of an individual depart?
Can you look them in the eyes, as they bleed into your hands;
Observing their final moments, as the light fades from their eyes?
Or are you simply a soft-hearted coward,
Sitting fat behind a computer, wishing death upon others?
To say that one is deserving of death,
Suggests that you are ready to kill.
And if indeed you are ready to kill,
Then you too must be prepared to die.

The poor man was sobbing his eyes out while the snail just desperately clung to his head until Deutschland had grabbed his arm and placed the frightened snail onto the ground.
Or the other time, when Nord and Sud Italia had captured Great Britain, but Nord didn't actually want to take care of him. The two brothers argued themselves to sleep while Great Britain escaped, his famous line 'I'm so hot I could kiss myself' lingering in the air. Just when Nord and Sud woke up, Deutschland came in with a paled Great Britain while Sud began to swear abou

The heat washed over you in an irregular pattern as you carried the metal objects to the anvil. Sweat flowed down your cheeks and neck and allowed the ashened shirt you wore to stick to your skin. Gnarled and twisted metal rods stuck out of the wicker basket on the floor. You looked around the room. The large fire burning behind you illuminated the tools that hung from the stone wall, giving them a faintish glow. Your eyes searched for your hammer. Scarred fingers began to wriggle as you grabbed the cracked leather handle. You turned back to the anvil. A sigh blew from your nostrils. Time to get to work.
Bang! Bang! Bang! You had grown deaf to the monotonous song of clanging after a while. Muscles in your body flexed dramatically and showed off sinewy and slick skin. You paused to wipe the sweat from your eyes and examine your work. A grin of pride etched its way on to your face. It was finally done. Well, almost.
You dropped the hammer on the floor and slipped on

The smell of sweat and puberty hit your nose full force. You wanted to upchuck right then and there. Nothing, not even war, could have been as worse as that stench. You swallowed down the bile rising in your throat.
"Guten Abend, recruits!" A voice bellowed. Your eyes sharply stared at the man who yelled. He was a tall(-ish) brute with bulging muscle and a shaggy, brown hair that fell in his eyes. They were pale green, like celery (Divergent reference). He wore imperial armour. The Germanic crest was embedded into the breastplate.
A messy reply emitted from the group. How pathetic. You sucked in an irritated breath through your nose. "Guten Abend, Herr!" You shouted loudly, looking forward.

I sat in front of the monitors. The stiff suit I wore felt a little uncomfortable. Headphones rested on my head as I listened for any reports of a theft in progress.
Nothing. This surprised me immensely, and nothing surprises me. A no crime night in Gotham, Germany was rarer than bismuth crystals. I chuckled faintly. Maybe I could finally get some sleep.
It's not easy being the city's protector. You have to be able to stop criminals and lunatics with as few citizen casualties as you can. You have to avoid the authorities sometimes because there is always that one fellow who wants to know who the hell you are. You have to deal with sleeping for one hour or less. You have to stay strong. You have to be on your toes. You have to handle a double-sided life.
Schieße. Like I said before, it's not easy being the city's protector.
I turned around. Kiku-San stood about ten meter

"Alright Ghost team," began Commander Palmer, "just got word from the eggheads up top that one of their research facilities has gone dark. They've tried ever channel they could think of and they have been unsuccessful in raising their buddies. They think the Covies broke in, jammed their signal, and think the bastards are in the process of breaking into some pretty sensitive data files. That's where you guys come in. What I want from you is to infiltrate the facility, kill any alien bastard that gets in your way, find a terminal, copy the data, and purge the building."
"What do you mean by 'purge', Commander?" asked a Spartan named Daniels.
Palmer gave him a look. "Apparently the eggheads say that the facility is already too far gone to recover. They don't want the Covenant getting their hands on anything that would benefit them in any way," Palmer explained, "That's why we have to level it. Demolition charges are already packed in the pelican. Commander Rachel Auri will be l

They hurried through the quarter's section of the building before they were contacted again.
"Change of plans, Spartans," the Spartan II announced over the COMMs, "Flood are swarming the current LZ. I'll circle around to find a better place to land. I'll radio once I've landed."
"Copy that, sir. Just a heads up: We only have eight minutes left until this whole place blows skyward," Auri said.
"Understood." With that said, they hung up.
"You guys catch that?" the commander asked her teammates.
"Crystal clear, ma'am," Shenway replied.
"So what do we do now? Wait?" Kent asked.
"Commander!" came Daniels' voice over the COMM channel.
"I've located your IFF tags. I'm in the area and could make a quick sweep and pick you guys up."
"You were to vacate the area, Private," Auri replied.
"I was going to wait until the last possible second to leave in case things went south."
"They already have," Shenway muttered low though Daniels still picked up her voice.
"I meant farther south,"

Auri and her squad quickly made their way towards the engine room. Using the map that the Librarian provided them Auri was able to find shortcuts and small passageways that made getting to their objective, and avoiding the Flood, easier.
"We're almost there," Auri whispered after consulting the map once again. The engine room was down another staircase followed by a long open hallway that left them with limited cover. There were few doors down there but Auri doubted they would be unlocked.
"Anything on radar?" Auri asked Drinj.
"Nothing to report, ma'am."
"And the pelican, Kent?"
"She's still good-" Kent swore as he pulled up a live feed from one of the pelican's front cameras. The parasite had found their bird. The Flood were attempting to bring the vehicle online, quickly bypassing any security measures that Kent set in place.
"Dammit all!" he swore again. The Lieutenant looked at his XO.
"Do it," Auri ordered. Kent took out the detonator that would destroy his bird, their only

With the charges set, Auri's group scampered out there quick. Just as they left the room, there was already a procession of Flood standing by to greet.
"Nice welcome party," Kent muttered, "Where's the refreshments?"
"Probably over there by the big blinking sign that says Exit," Corillo replied pointing across the room. Sure enough, there was an exit sign. They just had to get around the Flood to get to it. Surprisingly, the parasite hadn't even noticed the Spartans; their backs were turned. Auri ordered her squad to stay quiet and keep low.
"Do not engage the enemy," she signed with her hands. Three acknowledgement lights flashed once. The commander waved her hand forward and the group quietly walked past the Flood.
This is waaaaaay too easy, Auri thought suspiciously as they stuck to the shadows. Suddenly she was yanked back. She nearly tumbled to the floor. Pure military skills had kept her mouth clamped shut so that she wouldn't attract any unwanted attention. Regaining her ba

"So, on top of the Covenant and the Prometheans, we are going to be fighting space zombies?" asked Kerin as he checked the corners of a room.
"They're not just 'space zombies'," Shenway replied, "Haven't you read the reports?" Kerin paused for a moment. "Ah..."
"Thought so," Shenway said smirking, "They don't just infect your body, they absorb your memories and use that information to help their buddies escape. They're very hard to kill and from the reports, don't aim for the head. Go for the chest 'cause that's where those damned infection forms are."
"Well, that's comforting," Kerin grumbled.
"Hey! Quiet!" Shenway hissed. The Spartans froze.
"What did you hear?" Corcova asked.
"I... It sounded liquid," Shenway replied, swiveling her gun in the direction she heard the noise. It sounded again; this time closer. Corcova made a gesture and the Spartan team followed the noise cautiously. They entered a very cluttered room. This time red blood mixed with the purple and blue. There wer

"So, they were experimenting on the Flood," Drinj reiterated. The Spartan shook his head. "Does anybody realize how stupid that is? I mean, the Flood is extremely contagious. Why test on it when there's a risk of an outbreak?"
"Everything comes with risks, Lieutenant," Auri replied.
"Still... It was pretty damned stupid if you ask me."
"Commander," Jennings said activating COMMs once again, "I'm sending what information we've gotten from the data pad."
"Much appreciated, Corporal," Auri replied and clicked off. A beep in her HUD confirmed Jennings' upload. Auri passed the information along to her squad mates.
"Let's get moving. I don't want to linger here too long," the Commander ordered. Her squad moved out quickly down the hall. As they continued to walk down the hall, the lights overhead began to flicker. The Spartans snapped to attention and froze half way down the corridor. Auri's eyes wandered around the area. There were no doors or windows for the parasite to come out of, b

The three Spartans booked it down the hall to the other two sentinels that floated there, waiting patiently for them. One of them tapped into a nearby terminal as Auri opened an emergency channel.
"This is Spartan Rachel Auri, serial number 3456-5673-234-RA, commander of the fireteam sent into the research facility Delta-Theta requesting immediate evac. Does anyone read me, over?" Static filled their ears as the sentinel continued to work at the terminal.
"This is Commander Auri. Anybody there?" The static slowly faded away. Auri glanced up to see the other sentinel flexing its fins as if trying to find better reception.
"It's trying to boost the signal!" Shenway exclaimed. Sure enough, the static faded out just so that a male voice struggled through.
"Sp...tan ...ri, this...s HQ. We can barely... he..r... you. Boost...g your sig...l now." There was a small pop and the static lifted enough to where it didn't obscure the signal.
"There we go," announced a cheery voice on the other

The Flood threw Kerin off when it felt the Spartan go slack for a split second. Kerin got back to his feet and drew his combat knife.
His eyes flitted to the limp form laying on the ground next to the parasite.
"You bastard!" Kerin roared and charged at the Flood again. He feigned to the right and rolled under the Flood's attempt to knock him aside. Kerin swung his leg around and smacked his heel into the side of the Flood's head. It staggered under the blow. Releasing its defeat was nigh, the former Spartan issued a blood curdling shriek and darted off into the darkness before the other Spartans could fire at it. The instant the thing left, Kerin hurried over to Jennings. He rolled the corporal onto her back. Her visor was cracked from being slammed to ground. Auri, seeing her wounded teammate, immediately ordered her squad to form a protective ring around Kerin and Jennings. The Spartans were about to comply when Kerin said, "Commander, we can't stay here. Did you see where Dri

The Spartan thought as she ran through the complex.
Have only 5:29 left. Might not make it out of here alive. Least I could do would be to hand over the data and the chip to him now in case those asshole bitches drop in again. SHIT!
Auri glanced up in time to nearly run into a carrier form. She skipped around it and continued to run. The fall from the pelican left her without her weapons since they weren't locked onto her armor properly.
Focus! Can't engage them hand-to-hand. Too risky. Especially now that they have Spartan training.... That thought left a horrible taste in her mouth and her stomach turned into knots.
"Commander Auri, come in. Do you read me?" Auri glanced at the IFF tag: Sierra 117.
"Read you loud and clear, sir."
"Heard you missed your flight."
"Forgot to say goodbye to couple of people. Guess they didn't like that."
"I've landed on the other side of facility and will meet you halfway. Sending you the coordinates now."
"Gotcha. You have mine?"
"Yes. See y
