I made this guy just for Brony Con... Didn't want draw any OC for myself at all. Now people are asking for it. It's already been 63ed and pornified by Slugbox and drawn in a wedding dress by Solar Slash...
365 days ago, I submitted my first fan art of "My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic".
I would never have guessed it would bring me so far; I had less than 8K pageviews at the time, and now I have over 100K! But that's just numbers. I've met some awesome people and had a lot of fun drawing pony after pony. And I never would have guessed my art would improve so much in that one year.
So here's another drawing, in honour of the one that started it all:
She's been done for a while but here's the final compiled image thingy. I have it set up a bit differently then usual when showing off a custom cuz her pics are taller and she was taken from angles rather than straight sides. Due to her complex 3D shape, I figured that would work better and show more detail in the end.
So how did I do this? Well like you guys already knew, I used Apoxie sculpt my cousin lent me for the first time when making her. What I did was I took the Celestia figure that has molded hair and just pulled the hair off (easier to do than it looks) and cut off her ears and horn, the wings were already gone when I used them for my Gilda custom. I then took a dremel that he also lent me and sanded down her hooves to get rid of the shape of the anklets and then I used it to drill holes in her legs. After that I used some Apoxie sculpt to mold her wings, ears, crown, horn, and carapace and put some around the head to make it bigger and give her a more fitting snout (that turned out a bit too big though in my opinion). Once the Apoxie had cured, I put some Sculpey III clay on her for her hair and then baked her. The rest was simply a matter of painting with acrylics and then sealing her with Mod Podge. I did something different with the paint this time though: I made a blending color on her eyes and carapace and that underbelly thing.
For those who don't know, Apoxie sculpt is some wicked amazing stuff! You gotta mix 2 molds and then let it dry for a half hour but after that it is pretty easy to sculpt with and it takes a few hours to harden but be quick cuz it can start to harden while you're using it. It takes about a day to fully 'cure' and then it can be sanded down with a dremel very easily. The stuff hardens to be rock solid and extremely hard to break but sanding is very doable and it helped me create perfect shapes for things like her horn and wings. The holes everywhere were drilled in which also turned out good. One little problem with the sculpt is that it gets a bit melted when it's baked in the oven. I had no choice cuz I had to harden the clay for her hair. It also doesn't really seem to work too well with super glue or the super glue shouldn't be baked, it made a yellowing stain and dried up. When attaching the right wing with more sculpt (it was made separately), it kept falling off and leaning over so I thought some super glue would do the trick. It did but it was on the outside of the sculpt and when heated int he oven, it dried up and the wing detached from her back but I just put it back in with more superglue. It's ok now, but I would avoid putting superglue on things made with the sculpt unless there will be no baking. No more advice really besides bake her at 275 degrees F for 15 minutes and use some props. I didn't use props and she fell over in the oven but thankfully no damage.
Well boy this turned out great in the end! That Apoxie sculpt is amazing and I have to get some of my own! Maybe soon I'll make her a changeling pawn/trooper also out of a normal pony and I will probably make another one of her for eBay someday, it would sell for a lot I'm sure.
Well I hope you guys enjoy and please critique if you're a premium member!
Actually tomorrow is her b-day but since everyone's been making their presents today I figured I would too, so happy birthday to Sabrina Alberghetti a.k.a. Sibsy --->
This is her OC, Wildfire. Yes, you saw her in Canterlot Wedding part 1, they actually put her in the show! Her OC always seems so grumpy so I drew her that way. She's so cute when she's grumpy. :3 She's supposed to be a filly in this pic though.
On last night's interview with Tara Strong at Everfree Radio ( [link] ) she asked that someone do a Taralicious pic so I hopped on board. I'm quite sure someone out there as already done this, but here it is anyway. So if you see this Tara, hope you like it!
