Few artists have so definitively reflected the lives of average Americans as Norman Rockwell.

Collage is one of those art forms that immediately sets off heated debate about our most fundamental ideas and visceral feelings about the very essence of art itself.
Turn of the century troublemakers Georges Braque and Pablo Picasso began enhancing their paintings with glued on bits of cut out fabric and other materials, thus neatly blurring the line between the art categories of painting and sculpture. They shifted the emphasis or “meaning” of their painted images beyond an attempted interpretation of the painted “text” to thinking about the artists’ “process” – something wholly separate from the paintings themselves.
And with that a whole new Rubic’s Cube of basic questio

Pseutro 1.1.0 Is Gonna Be AwesomeYesterday I was hard at work on the stable version of Pseutro 1.1.0. I've still got the downloads bug to fix, and the dreaded dev tools (but I may skip that for now). var-test-variable: hsl(0, 50%, 25%);
But Mozilla changed it in Firefox 31.0 (currently in Nightly) to this:

So I went through all of my variables and fixed them up, and I went through the entire theme and replaced most regularly used colours with CSS variables. This was essential for when I make the Pseutro Light version because it makes things so much easier, as I change the value of a variable in one place and it changes it everywhere in the theme, so switching colours from dark to light

The current deviantART thumbnails (the smaller versions of deviations) have served the community well for years; however, there's always room for improvement.
Some of the problems with existing thumbnails are: they leave a lot of blank space around them, there isn't a lot of room for text for literature deviations, and the thumbnails don't present very tall/wide images well.

New Username SymbolsAs part of our ongoing process to make the user experience cleaner and more intuitive, we've launched a new set of username symbols designed to help easily identify deviant-types.New Username Symbols in DeviantART Announcements More Like This
At a glance, the new symbols are quickly recognizable. When hovering over a username symbol, a tooltip appears, providing a brief explanation of that user's deviant-type. If clicked, a modal appears, giving a brief explanation for each username symbol, with "Learn more" links that lead to more detailed explanations.
A word from Heidi:
Over the years, a few things have come to seem like deviantART mainstays. Deviant green, intricate art categorization, colorful avatars, symbols next to usernames. In our constant re-evaluation of what's best for longtime deviants and new users alike, we do sometimes need to stop and ask ourselves if a makeover for some aspect isn't overdue. Changing username symbols was one of the harder things we evaluated.

[Featured Skin] Rainsweeper[Featured Skin] Rainsweeper in Personal More Like This
Rainsweeper by Kaelri is another leap in making Rainmeter do things that no one ever thought possible. Through the use of a clever Lua script Rainsweeper is a clone of the classic Minesweeper game. The ingenious design allows for many features including a GUI options editor, saved high scores, and it has no images or other resource files making it light as it can be.
Thanks for the hard work on another amazing skin!

Skin of the What? After some discussion we have decided to bring back Skin of theSkin of the What? in Personal More Like This
QuarterSeason. This is a reincarnation of our old Skin of the Month contests, just a bit more spread out.
The plan so far is to have a one month nomination period after each quarter of the year. We will only be accepting nominations of skins that were submitted to DeviantArt within that quarter of the year. We're hoping this will encourage the creation of new skins. Because of a limitation to the number of items we can place on a single pole, we the moderators reserve the right to whittle down the competition before voting.
After nominations are closed we will have one week of voting. There may even be a prize for the winner.
As of this blog the rules are as follows:
A Skin of the
QuarterSeason must be released during the time period of the poll.
There is a technical limit of 10 suggestions per poll. Suggestions exceeding this limit may be decided upon by the moderators.
You cannot sugge
Rainmeter Workshops open for Submissions!Over the past years we have released Rainmeter Workshops now and then. These journal entries explained several (new) functions of Rainmeter and provided examples for new skinners.Rainmeter Workshops open for Submissions! in Personal More Like This
Now we are going to open up our gallery, with a new folder, specifically for these workshops! This means you can write up your own Workshop or Tutorial to teach others the great functionality of Rainmeter!
We do however have a few submission rules since without rules we would descend into chaos!
There should be an accompanying example skin if applicable.
It should use current coding standards at the time of submission.
It must be an original concept that does not duplicate existing workshops.
Furthermore you can submit them in 3 different ways.
A deviation with a screenshot and downloadable rmskin package. Suitable for simple workshops.
A Sta.sh entry with a thumbnail of the linked deviation with a rmskin download. Suitable for complex workshops.
