4/21/89! A trio of BN SD40-2s head west on M-2 at Cicero Yard passing the only diamond on the Racetrack...long gone...of course! Those were the fun times!
Norfolk Southern's Conrail heritage unit 8098 steps onto the turntable at Spencer, NC for her shining moment of glory. She is surrounded by 19 other friends, in the view is the Lehigh Valley, Monongahela, and original Norfolk Southern Railway heritage units.
The line was thick with railfans as NS spun every engine. I found myself a open spot which happened to be exactly in front of the Conrail heritage unit. I sat down in front of the other railfans and did my shots at a much lower level. This particular shot Im laying on the ground to get this.
When Norfolk Southern unveiled the heritage fleet, specifically the Conrail heritage unit, I imagined this shot in my head. I didnt think I would get this shot so soon. Ive been reluctant to share this as I dont think the NS higher ups know the fuel tank still says Conrail.
A Southbound CP Ethanol train with two GE's on the point passes a Northbound BNSF empty coal train. The coal train is just starting to stretch her legs with an SD70MAC leading and a SD70ACE trailing as they leave CP's Pigs Eye Yard in Saint Paul, MN.
Two EMD GP38-2's howl out of CP's Pigs Eye Yard in Saint Paul, MN pulling a mixed freight train heading north. The lead locomotive once had red and white paint with Soo Line lettering, but now wears a fresh coat of CP red while her sister and class locomotive still wears her original livery....for now.
On March 6, 2010 a southbound Union Pacific mixed freight train takes the Farmington siding just north of Farmington, MN.
This line was once part of the Rock Island railroad. After the RI shut down C&NW purchased it and with the merger with UP is now just another line in the huge UP system.
In the background you can see tracks in the snow from snowmobiles. Just part of the winter fun here in Minnesota.
NS 8101, the CoG heritage unit is waiting to get track warrant to head for Millen, GA from the NS Savannah Dispatcher. Also time for me to move to another spot to get this again near the Airport.
Soo SD60 6053, CP SD60 6225 (ex-Soo 6025) and CEFX AC44CW 1057 are power on an eastbound mixed freight waiting on the west end of Harvey, North Dakota for clearance to proceed on.

The Illinois zephyr posed for a couple photo run by's including one with the team of Santa Fe FP45 92 and Wisconsin Central SD45 7525. Engineer Ray Weart gives a tug of the classic Leslie RS3l for the group of railfans gathered for the photo shoot.
I'll leave it to those more knowledgeable about freight ops to explain the backstory here. All I know is that this was sitting on the siding next to the Boonton Line at Denville.
