Caged InWho would have thought the years being locked in a cage would be the happiest time of my life?Caged In in Short Stories More Like This
I used to dream about gliding- my wings spread wide as I rode the breeze over a horizon that went on forever. I would wake in the dark and scream out in frustration, hoping that someday I could sing my real song.
The nights became longer and the dreams became unwelcome. You see, when I'm too caged in, fantasies are more like nightmares, taunting me, teasing me; a blatant reminder of what I can never have.
It was all I wanted. It was everything.
I escaped the first time the opportunity presented itself. Barreling through the unlocked door, I ran down the table and leaped through the open window with wings unfurled. I sang then, the sweetest noise I have ever made.
Until I fell.
I had never truly experienced the sensation of falling. It wasn't as peaceful as I imagined. It was terrifying.
I thought flying would come easy. I thought I would simply beat-be

It was two in the afternoon but…
the sun was setting

I should have seen the hutch,
shelves lined with bone china
decorated with delicate leaves and vines.
I was so thirsty
and reaching for cups that should have been there.
Instead I found a billboard of butterflies,
the colors raging
more than any rainbow
I'd ever seen.
Their wings fluttered and flashed
yet somehow they moved in slow motion.
I wanted to stand,
wanted to reach out and touch them but…
I couldn't move,
and yet I laughed
ignoring my dry mouth
and the tingling in my feet.
There was a tempest
on the rise
and in my blood.
A sugar rush disguised
as a riot of butterflies
and they were swarming me.

A Brief Introduction
A piece of literature can easily be placed into its respective genres and categories upon being read, but when is a piece of writing considered to be 'experimental' and when is it not? This is the fundamental question that has challenged the validity of writing alleged to be experimental. But is experimental literature a definitive genre or style? It seems to lend itself more as a strategy to approaching both the process of writing and interpreting of literature. In any case, it has invaluable resources for any writer to exploit.
Literary genres are not hardwired into our literature; they are fluid and

Namely, what the hell was that last journal update about?
Well, a metric ton of snow came barreling the hell out of nowhere and buried everyone alive for a few days. Let me tell you, you don't know what cold is until you've had to go without heat and light for a few days. Everything appears to be going back to normal, slowly, but there are still a lot of people without power. I actually packed up and went to my parents place last night because I couldn't deal with another day with no electricity. Couldn't even play with my new toys on Christmas
That said, from the looks of things I'm back to normal, if behind on dA. I will probably get further behind because Pokemon Black/White 2, but I digress. Planning to see The Hobbit sometime next week with the movie gift card I got this year and spent last night watching Brave for the second time. I think it grew on me a little more the second viewing, but I still don't think it's Pixar's best.

The boy in front of me is writing diligently, noting each and every word as though he forgot it was all in the textbook. He has dark hair all tangled up in the back like a bramble of thornbushes and his green hoodie looks like it could use a good washing.
The professor is rattling on about asymptotes, about two lines that go on forever, getting closer and closer but never touching. He tells us about the Greek roots of the word; asymptotos, that it means "not falling together," and he scribbles nonsense equations on the board and hopes that we understand them better than he does because tenure is the only reason he's teaching this class.
As much as I hate math, I have to admit there's something beautiful about the concept. Something romantic and longing, something I can relate to in a sea of cold precision and dispassionate numbers.
I think about falling in math class. I think about fractals and their intricate patterns, turning equations into art. T

And yet, the weeks move quickly. I feel like all I've really done this week is watch anime, play with the cats, and send applications. Which isn't true; I took my nephew out twice since Dad was off so little man could go play with the train set he got for Christmas. I even managed to read two books; an old favorite and something new.
Haven't done much else though. I've found some websites called KissCartoon and KissAnime where I can watch pretty much any animated thing I want - I've been catching up on some nostalgic shows (Hey Arnold, Gargoyles), modern shows (Phineas and Ferb, Avatar), and checking out some anime (Kino no Tabi and Pretear). I'm amassing quite a list of things to watch The selection is unbelievable.
I can almost get the neighborhood cats to come to me now; granted, I still have to bribe them with food. Buttercup will let me pick her up, and the orange one will let me pet it as long as he's got food in front of him The f

I spent the first few hours of my new year with literature and Pokemon X. We'll get to the literature later. Right now, I've been enjoying the latest entry in the Pokemon franchise. I don't know if I've gotten better, or the games have gotten easier, but I'm not having as much trouble catching the stupid things as I used to. Then again, it sure is nice of the developers to put someone near the beginning that gives you False Swipe

Black – true black – is the absence of light. Darkness is defined by what it is not, by the lack of something else. When we say a black hole, we truly mean that; black. Blacker than black. An absence of not only light, but of time, distance, anything.
The night was scary when I was little. I hated the dark, but couldn’t bear to sleep so long as the light was on, any light, burning on the other side of my eyelids. I used to have nightmares about dark things in dark corners, shadowy figures with shadowy fingers trailing along my spine. I always woke up cold and fumbling frantically for the lamp, but the aura of light just made the shadows deeper and I turned it off quickly.
Black holes are dead stars. Graves. Tombs that bury light, bury it so deep, swallow entire suns, planets, galaxies. Dead stars take all the light with them like rich men spending fortunes on alabaster monuments and marble headstones.

Honestly, she’s one of the only people where I actually shouted out in pure glee (Or “fanboying” as these kids nowadays, call it.) when she added me to her watchlist.
Adjusting The Antennae (Ep. 5)Hello everyone! I’m happy to see you could make it on this wonderful Christmas Eve Special of ‘Adjusting The Antennae.’ Our fifth episode is a doozy for plenty of reasons. First off, it is the eve of Christmas, a time of gift-giving, showing love, and creating memories with friends and family. So, of course you know I have to get someone special for this Christmas Eve special. Before I reveal this amazing deviant though, I am your host, chromeantennae, and it a pleasure to have you with us on the eve of Christmas.Adjusting The Antennae (Ep. 5) in Literature Features More Like This
And my guest for today’s show is none other than the incomparable imaginative-lioness! Madeline here has been one of the more impactful artists in our literature community, showcasing her kindness with amazing features, and her truly phenomenal writing skills through her top-grade poetry. She’s one of my favorite people on deviantART, one of my favorite writers, and one of my dearest friends. I love Madeline so much and
Happenings/question/feature!It's been awhile since I've written a personal journal and it's time I change that. First off, things have been shakin' and moving lately since last month. That was a tough month but my goodness, July has been so darn good to me. Incredible people. Incredible, incredible people are whom I've been associating myself with and that's just good for me. I haven't been this happy in a long time and I have a few select folks to blame. They know who they are.Happenings/question/feature! in Personal More Like This
On the art side, it's been a bit on the dark end of things but I hope my messages are relatable for others. That's all I really want at the end of the day when it comes to those kinda personal pieces. But now, especially with Moira (Excelsior), I feel as though I'm moving into so many better places in my life.
Even academically. About a week or so ago, my first full-time semester of college classes have been finalized and I couldn't be happier about that. My first two semesters of dual-cre
Tips: How to get started with the lit community!Hello everyone! My name is Ricky Alaniz otherwise known as chromeantennae and today, I wanna give you guys a little guide on how I really got started here. How I got my name out there a little bit more and really got the courage to do more around these parts.Tips: How to get started with the lit community! in Literature Features More Like This
First off, understand that 99% of the literature community here on deviantART will give you just as much in return as you give back to it. It's a natural, human thing. But if you don't give back, you won't receive. That's always the number one thing to remember, but also that we're all here to support each other. Even the most popular of deviants started right where you are. Yes, even the Senior Members and lit CVs were newbies here on this site at one point too. And I know some people are intimidated by Senior Members and literature CVs but these folks are the LAST people to be intimidated by! They're in these positions for the exact opposite reasons-- they're not evil-doers or big bad monsters ready to reject whatever you sugge

GREYSHADOW'S #34Music of the week : Ancienne chanson franaise, "Le roi a fait battre tambour"GREYSHADOW'S #34 in Art Features More Like This
New translation, with some suggestions from my "other side of the world friend" naikki
The King lets the drums roll
- The King lets the drums roll,
To see the ladies all
And the first one he saw
Robbed him of his soul.
- Marquis, tell me, do you know
Who this lovely lady is?
And the Marquis replied:
Your Majesty, she's my wife.
- Marquis, you're happier than I
To have a woman so beautiful.
If you give me this honor,
With her I would sleep.
- Your Majesty, you've got all the power
All the power and fortitude
But if you were not the King
I would have my revenge!
- Marquis, do not be angry,
You'll have your reward:
I would have you in my armies
A handsome Marshall of France.
- Farewell, my love, goodbye, my sweetheart,
Farewell my hope!
Since you must serve the King,

Fairytale FeatureHi everyone,Fairytale Feature in Personal More Like This
so Night Feature week is over and here is new one which you selected in my poll. Hope you like it as much as you like last one. This time there is many types of art, I tried to find fairytale paintings, photos, photomanipulations, sculptures or origami. And when I was browsing through them I fell in love with 3D origami. I've already made swan, penguin and peacock but I don't know if it's good idea to submit them here. (:
However I had same problem as last time - I found too much beautiful works so it was impossible to feature all of them so you can see rest of them in my collection called Fairytale http://larosedepetitprince.deviantart.com/favourites/51019791.
I'm happy for every comment so please let me know what you like or what can I improve. Thank you very much for your feedback. Please don't forget to vote in my new poll and select a theme for next journal!
Have a nice weekend!
