Weep, weep, O Walsingham!
Whose days are nights;
Blessings turn'd to blasphemies
Holy deeds to despites.
Sin is where Our Lady sat;
Heaven is turned to Hell!
Satan sits where Our Lord did sway;
Walsingham! O farewell!

(This is a 16th century poem I found in Carolly Erickson's biography "Bloody Mary". Walsingham is an English pilgrimage site that was destroyed during the Reformation. The poem reflects the feelings of the Catholic people of that time, and perhaps also what Mary thought.)

Miladies and gentlemen, I present you "Bloody Mary"! :D My 7th portrait in my series of Tudor Queens.

Born in 1516 as daughter of King Henry VIII and Catherine of Aragon, Mary Tudor was raised to become Queen of England, just in case. Henry's male heirs indeed were short-lived, and his son Edward, after having ruled as Protestant king, died aged fifteen in 1553. Now it was Mary's turn and she became Queen the same year, at the age of 37. She was a devout Catholic and believed it was her mission to restore England to Catholicism. Which of course was pretty much impossible - one can't stop history once it has started. Until her death in 1558, about 280 Protestant "heretics" were condemned to death. (Source: Wikipedia)

There are several portraits of Mary dating from her time, of which the best known probably are these:
[link] - painted by Master John in 1544
[link] - painted by Antonio Moro in 1555
As you can see I chose to paint her wearing the dress from the earlier painting when she wasn't Queen yet, simply because I like it more
I'm still wondering about her eyebrows or lack thereof. Was there a fashion of plucking them out, or did Mary have some nutritional deficiency?

Like some symbolism with that painting? :) Here goes: The statuette of the Virgin Mary in the background is her name patron, obviously, and the blood red color of the tapestry also was a conscious choice.

Tool: Photoshop 7 & Wacom tablet. Statue referenced from a work by Tilman Riemenschneider. Carpet and wooden panels from cgtextures.com .

Inspired by a popular song from the early 20th century.

Time would come for roll call,
Time for us to part,
Darling I'd caress you
And press you to my heart,
And there 'neath that far-off lantern light,
I'd hold you tight,
We'd kiss good night,
My Lili of the Lamplight,
My own Lili Marleen.

Orders came for sailing,
Somewhere over there
All confined to barracks
was more than I could bear
I knew you were waiting in the street
I heard your feet,
But could not meet,
My Lili of the Lamplight,
my own Lili Marleen.

- T. Connor (1944)

Medium: Photoshop and Wacom tablet
Time taken: estimated between 20 and 40 hours, spread over several days

Time for some truth! When I said this was inspired by "Lili Marleen", I lied. In reality it was inspired by the Tintin fanfiction "Homecoming" which you can find on archiveofourown.org and on the Tintin kink meme on dreamwidth.
So, yes, there's a Tintin version of this painting - to be precise, a Tintin/Haddock slash version, and you can see it on my fangirl blog: Ruined childhood this way

Salome, who danced in front of King Herodes and received the head of St. John the Baptist on a silver plate, was regarded one of the most wicked women in history.

And this is how she died, according to the old legend. One day, she was dancing on a frozen pond when the ice broke and she fell into the water. Eventually, the sharp ice fragments would cut her neck and severe her head from her body. So she died the same way like the man whom she had brought to death; and not even her mother Herodias was able to save her.

Photoshop 7 and Aiptek tablet.

Or "I Think You Forgot to Put My Irises Back In, Doc"

It's the next step up from those bizarre contact lenses the goth kids wear. I can definitely see those silly goth kids doing something like this in the future purely for aesthetics. Gotta admit, it'd be pretty sweet, but what would mom say?

Working as a full-time graphic designer doesn't leave much time for fun, games, and commissions nowadays. But luckily a lull in my workload gave me just enough time to throw something together for this contest.

So this is my entry for the nvidia contest. I worked on this right up to the last minute... literally. =_= Ran out of time, but I managed to get 'er lookin' alright.

This is my first attempt at a "hardcore" pixel drawing. I've done a few simple ones before, but nothing as time-consuming and detailed as this; it just about killed me! Don't know how pro pixel artists do it!

Speaking of which, I apologize to all you pixel artists who see all the millions of mistakes and broken pixels in this. I really wanted to refine it a LOT more, but time just ran out. *sigh* Ah well, hope you kids dig.

What Does nVidia Say to You?

Looking at the nVidia "Claw" logo, one sees, well a logo. The logo itself says quite a bit. With it's curved lines and sharp corners, it carries with it several overtones including modernity, a feeling of aggressiveness, and a sense of technological advancement-- characteristics appropriate for a company that specializes in high-end graphic processing units.

However, the nVidia "claw" is a logo because that is the context in which one chooses to perceive it. One could choose to see the logo as an actual claw (hence its name) such as that of a robot or some mechanical alien hand. Or one could even take it a step further and interpret the "claw" as something entirely different, such as... oh, say a zen shrine, which brings me to my pixel drawing.

Browsing the nVidia galleries, I noticed many people interpreting the nVvidia "claw" logo as literally a logo and that's it. Now don't get me wrong, the logo's pretty sweet and all, but if you only listen to one thing it says, well you'll be missing out on quite a bit.

For this particular drawing, I wanted to incorporate the logo in a way that made the image unique to nVidia. I didn't want to make a random drawing that could be used or applied to anything else and then just slap the logo on there almost as an afterthought.

Also, I wanted to see how many different ways I could interpret the nVidia "claw." In my drawing I managed to make the "claw" logo say the following:

1. "Ooohhhmmm. I'm a zen-like structure built into a mountain!"
2. "I'm a rune-like carving on a plaque! Hexes not included!"
3. "Shhhh! I'm a ninja-like shadow on the side of a mountain!"
4. "Gimme your money! I'm a fountain!"
5. "I rock so hard, I'm a rock carving/formation!"
6. "I'm grass! Don't smoke me!"
7. "Surf's up, Bra! I'm waves on water!"
<strike>8. "Zomg, I'm high! I'm clouds!"</strike>
<strike>9. "I'm a sexy babe! Look at my huge... logo!"</strike>

[Bleh! 8 and 9 are supposed to be striked out! :X ]

Aw man, ran outta time to make 'em all. Oh well, Seven of Nine ain't bad-- actually, she's pretty hot, but that's beside the point.

Anyway, as you can see, the "claw" logo is a pretty cool guy. eh can say a whole lot more than what one initially hears and doesn't afraid of anything.* If you listen hard enough, you can hear it tell countless tales including one of a wondrous mystical world where islands float and water falls reeeally slowly.

Bring color to this dreary world!

After checking out the splatter-fest videos on the Adidas contest page (which looked pretty awesome), I wanted to go for something that incorporated the elements found in those videos. I wanted something fun, dynamic, evoking lots of energy and of course something with lots of paints and colors. Adidas is a brand known for its athletic gear so, after much thought, I settled on the idea of an athletic girl in Adidas garb running down a dreary corridor bringing color, fun, and excitement with her in the celebratory spirit found in the Adidas finger painting clips.

This particular image went through tons of revisions and it was grueling work to get it to look right because the angle is so skewed. It's a little rough around the edges, but I think the look lends itself well to the wild nature I was going for. I'm pretty satisfied with the result. Hope you kids like. :)

And another entry, you can click the links below to see my other pieces for the Ugly Truth competition. All references used are my own and produced in Photoshop on a Wacom as usual.
EDIT: I decided to work on the smoke a little more and to have it passing into the undead as I felt this portrayed the concept a little better.

These are links to my other entries if you are interested.

To all of you who enjoy my work I am re-entering my artworks into the competition and would be greatly appreciative to all of you to look at my work again as all of your favourites and comments have been deleted when my work was removed. I like to get back to each and every one of you who honour me for taking the time to favourite and comment on my work and look through your galleries to reply in kind, thank you. To those who are interested I wanted to experiment with this competition by taking a base photograph and drawing directly over the top, adding the lighting the phantom and the smoke as well as to heavily edit the base photo. I have edited all photos to make the subject unrecognisable. All of the references used as a base belong to me and were taken for this contest.

I wanted to go with a black & white piece after all of my colour recently and the Demon Hunters eyes just inspired me to create this. Enjoy
EDIT: I have refined the detail on the armour and the cloth as I cannot help myself

A melody, which livens up the forest... and awakes a long forgotten fairytale...

There is some kind of a story behind this picture. But I want you to imagine yourself what this story could look like :) so tell me in the comments ;) :D

This image took so much time and effort to draw! I think it's my hugest picture so far! I hope you like it!!

Drawn in PS CS4 with Hanvon "Artmaster" - graphic tablet

RIFT theme: This is the colossus of life :)

:icon1dakota-smith1: has written a very beautiful and awesome shortstory for this picture... thanks so much!!:

That...tune....has not been heard on this side of the world in....a very long time. It has been so long...I had almost forgotten just how wonderful it is. I must see. I must see where it is coming from. Who brings it here?

The earth is stiff around the Guardian but despite of this he lifts himself above the surface. Nearby there is a young woman playing a small instrument on the stump of what was once a mighty tree. The Guardian speaks in her mind "you who are you?"
Without faltering the woman answers "my name is Arethusa. My ancestor was once the nymph who resided in this tree."
"Why do you come here Arethusa? Why do you play that song?"
"This song has been passed down my family for hundreds of years. As a child I heard the stories of you, great Guardian, and how you have kept this forest pure."
The Guardian was silent
"I have come here to tell you that there is very little of the outside world left and what is left is burning....did you know this is the last forest?"
"Yes. I have felt my kin dying this past millennium."
"Why have you done nothing to stop it?" Arethusa said. A tear trickled down her cheek and onto her flute.
"I cannot leave this forest. I am the very heart and soul of this place. I am bound to this place forever."
"The song is almost finished."
"Then we must soon part ways and you will go back to the outside world."
"There is nothing for me there."
"You must go. If what you say is true then it is time for a new age. I give you a piece of my power..."
Arethusa felt roots entwining themselves around her feet and crawl up her legs. She felt a glow fill her up. For that one moment she was bound to the forest itself and she could see it. In her mind's eye she saw every tree, flower, and blade of grass. For that one moment she could hear the forest singing along with her little tune.
"You must return to the world and may where ever you step be the home to my children. The age of the forest will rise from the ashes. All will be well.'
As the song ended the roots fell away and the guardian returned to his slumber, preparing to wake at the dawn of a new and brighter earth.

I did it!! :D This is the first time I am participating in a dA-design battle! And I am soo excited about it!! I really hope you all like my design, a little cutie-monster being afraid of a spider under the bed (where monsters are told to live ^^) and now asking to sleep in your bed! :D It took me really long to draw and design the T-Shirt, but it was much much fun, especially since I tried to discover sime kind of a new style! ^^

P.S.: The little rabbit he is holding is inspired by a selfmade plushie of my little sister! ^^

PS CS4, about 20 hours in total

Many of you mentioned that my design has too many colors... But I believe it was only a recommendation, else it would mean they would only accept vectors, because when you are painting something you always have different hues and tones... I also think they would have written it in the official rules or the artistic guidelines, but they didnt, so it is probably just a tip to not use more than 7 colors! (I think anyway, that I used only brown, red, blue, yellow and cyan... so not more than 7 colors)

Working on finishing touches...

This little beastie is part bird and part tiger. It's rare to see them...and live. Videos have caught mere glimpses of their iridescent plummage.  They are fearless parents rarely having more then two eggs in a clutch....more info as it unfolds.

UPDATE: Finally finished!!!! Thanks for putting up with my insanity!!

You can call me Capt. Lightleg... Cable to my friends, but only my mother calls me "Virginia".  I travel the vast oceans, treasure hunting with my faithful, yet at times vexing firstmate Clancy. He's a very dear friend, but I'd rather you not tell him that.  He tends to have a big mouth, so lets keep that little tid-bit between you and I!

I may look like your "average" girlie girl, but I need no man to "fix" me.  I'm "me" and that's all I'll claim to ever be. Pirate by trade, but I dabble in tech. Upgrades are my staple, especially with my sonic cannon lovingly nicknamed "The Chum Drum" for it's massive sound. Let's just say, you'll know when I'm in the area.

If you catch eye of me in the tavern, come over for a drink or two.  I can be as warm as whiskey, or as sharp as cheddar but any man I set my eye on will see fireworks by the end of the day. <3
