So I visited PIXAR today! It was awesome! 8D
We spent about two hours there with one of their story artists, Adrian Molina. *u* Although the first 30 minutes we just all sat and talked and ate delicious burritos underneath a gorgeous painting from Toy Story 3.
Then he looked at my portfolio, which he liked quite a bit. He said I was twice as good as he was at my age, but I ought to loosen up my figures. Then he looked at my sketchbook, which he was super impressed with. He said I should just make my portfolio look more like my sketchbook, and I'd be a shoe-in at CalARTs. xD So that was super cool! He's super nice and says to email him with his portfolios or any art or questions and he'll give me suggestions. c:
After lunch he showed us a little bit of the studio (although we weren't allowed anywhere with actual work going on, which was too bad). But I got to see TONS of concept work for Brave, which looks pretty cool! I can't really disclose any info about it obviously, but it definitely looks a little better a

Gosh how much I hate this insanely crave of protecting everything someone makes. Sharing is not that bad. Besides lots of things got more popular after it got shared. >:C
I have no problem with people sharing or uploading stuff I make to other places aslong as they dont claim it as their own. Which very very veeeery rarely happens. And when it does, its not like I take an arrow to the knee and die( SORRY I HAD TO I HATE THAT MEME BUT I HAD TO XDDDD! Man I cant stay serious for more than a few mins )
Im just spreading the word now after reading about it myself.
Dat is all :'D

Is TMNT flop already? And what can we do about it?Reviews from critics are already coming in for the upcoming Michael Bay produced TMNT movie and... lo-and-behold... they’re pretty shit. Over on Rotten Tomatoes it’s already got a score of 38%.Is TMNT flop already? And what can we do about it? in Personal More Like This
One of the prevailing themes of the new movie, apparently, is that everything is predestined. April was predestined to meet the turtles, and the turtles were predestined to become mutants. Everyone is connected to everyone else in ways that are flabbergastingly stupid. So much for random chance creating the turtles... Another theme is that this is more or less April O’ Neil’s movie. Not the ninja turtles. April is the main character. April is the focus of the film. The turtles are there, but they’re side characters in the same way the Autobots were side characters in the Transformers films.
The reason I’m bringing this up here now before the film is even out is because... well... I want it to fail. That’s a little selfish, I know, but I honestly don

Hot Topic DA Art Theft...Maybe?Changed User AgreementsHot Topic DA Art Theft...Maybe? in Personal More Like This
You know what I hate about companies? The fact that they can, effectively, take their user agreements and update them without your consent. Thus changing the rules to something you’ve already signed long long ago. I signed up for DA 10 years ago but I’ve never once been asked to agree to the frequently new Terms of Service Agreements they keep updating.
Recently it’s been called to our attention that now DA can license your work, even fanart, off to other companies for a profit. DA gets licensing money, the product makers get money off the merch they sell... but the artist gets nothing. Worse yet, DA doesn’t even need to ask you for permission to do so.
This recently came to our attention in a big way when DA user :iconrismo: discovered that his Adventure Time fanart was being sold on Hot Topic without his knowledge. http://www.hottopic.com/hottopic/Adventure+Time+In+The+Rain+T-Shirt-10171581.jsp
Mature themes in American AnimationWhen I first discovered Anime, my mind was blown. Here were Japanese animations being made which told adult stories with sex, violence, and all sorts of things I'd never seen before done in American films. As a teenager the constant pandering to children and the reluctance to accept more mature themes and ideas in American animated films pissed me off. Why can't american cartoons be taken more seriously and have stuff for adults too outside of South Park and The Simpsons?Mature themes in American Animation in Personal More Like This
In 1998 Stephen Spielberg tried to change that. After having a successful run of kids cartoons (Tiny Toons, Animaniacs, Pink and the Brain, etc), he took it a step further by giving us a PRIME TIME cartoon series aimed at adults. It was called "Invasion America." It was a sci-fi epic, featured a slew of big name actors including Leonard Nimoy, and featured more adult oriented themes such as sex, violence, and swearing!
It sucked and was a resounding failure.
The epic plot they were trying to weave would never be compl
Animation techniques and more Ghibli thoughtsIn my last journal I mentioned the strange effect of seeing super cartoony flat characters moving around in a hyper realistic world. There's actually a name for this, it's call the "masking effect" and it was quite elaborately detailed by Scott McCloud in his book "understanding comics."Animation techniques and more Ghibli thoughts in Personal More Like This
In comics, frequently the main characters are portrayed as cartoony and simple, while backgrounds often get very detailed. The basic concept is pretty simple. The more cartoony a character is drawn, the more appealing and relatable it is to us as we can more easily imagine ourselves in the role. The more realistic something is, the less of a personal connection you have to it. This is why villains tend to be drawn more realistically, and heros more cartoony. But it goes beyond just the characters... the environment also is affected.
If a person in a cartoon picks up a sword and starts swinging it around, the sword becomes an extension of their body and since it's animated, it becomes a drawn thing whic

Username changes?I had to kind of do a double-take when I realized DA just introduced this feature.Username changes? in Personal More Like This
You know, there was a time when I wanted to change my name to ANYTHING other than SonicRocksMySocks. I thought it up when I was 15 without realizing I'd be saddled with that alias for potentially a lifetime.
When I started gaining renown on the internet, there was even a time where I considered making a new DeviantArt account JUST to change my username, but by then my reputation was already cemented. It's silly and childish and doesn't fit a 20-something artist who is trying to get serious about her art...
After working on my 8th DeviantArt anniversary flash and going back to my roots, it sort of dawned on me.
No other username fits me better.
Maybe I was embarrassed of it for a time, but now, after 8 years, there's no way in hell I'd ever be anybody else. My art is ABOUT childhood and youthful spirit, and that's what I remember when I think of my nickname. It reminds me of where I ca
Tracing in the ECOK, I promised myself that 2012 would be the year to get back into my art and try and find that motivation/inspiration that I used to have but before I do, there's a couple of things I need to get off my chest and who knows? Perhaps after talking about it, I'll be able to move on and take my art to the next level. I logged on to dA this morning to find several journals regarding tracing and I knew exactly who they were all directed at... I've spoken about this to a couple of people over the past few months and this will come as a shock to most of you, but there's something you need to know: I've traced.Tracing in the EC in Personal More Like This
There you go, I've said it. Now before you stop reading and hit the "unwatch" button, please hear me out. Earlier last year, there were accusations going around that I traced my work. It was very low-key and although I was expecting a shitstorm of dArama to emerge, nothing ever came from it. The accusations were that I traced my work line-for-line and that I simply rotated/flippe

In Poland peoples protest, not only behind PC. Peoples go at streets and protest, loud and clear say that we don't want ACTA, yet goverment don't listen and signed ACTA anyway.
After signing ACTA protests don't stop, they become even bigger. Each day peoples gather and protest at streets.
That was mostly young peoples, but not only them - in crowd was everyone.
There was younger and older, peoples who fight for cross and peoples who was against them in past; there was really lot of different peoples who shared one target - to show that they now are against ACTA, to show that they fight for their rights.

Thought it would've been good for me to take a mental break from it. It was stressing me out beyond belief. You all know I've been struggling with an art block for a good time now. And again I apologize for the lack of activity. But really, the more I tried to force myself to draw, the more difficult it became. I had gotten to the point to where I'd literally have a mental/emotional breakdown just from trying to sketch out something in my sketchbooks. Horrible. Simply awful.
You also know that I have mental illness. So that coupling the stress of trying to be productive was starting to get to me. I haven't enjoyed drawing in a very long time. Well, it's not that I haven't been enjoying it. I seem to have just, lost the meaning and reason as to WHY I do it. I've realized that the reasons I once had upon a time, the passions I had... they
